Darsombra - Climas Community - promo cover pic!

Climax Community was released in October, the outfit’s first for new label home, Germany’s eclectic Exile On Mainstream. The album shows DARSOMBRA’s ever- expanding avant-garde orchestrated audio layering/looping and paralleling visual displays with possibly the most adventurous material they’ve created to date.

Decibel Magazine is hosting a stream of the entire Climax Community LP AT THIS LOCATION. Rad live footage of DARSOMBRA’s new show filmed at various locations on their recent European tour with Stinking Lizaveta can be viewed HERE.

 Critical Praise:

“The larger movements of the songs rub against each other with tectonic weight, while subtler elements attack, defeat and consume. Strange and lovely, Climax Community speaks in the language of animal instinct.” – Exclaim!

“Much like a work of fine art, little to no commentary is given leaving the observer to interpret the work as they wish. By the same token, the listener may also choose to switch off the cerebral and absorb the music at the most basic level.” – Ghost Cult

“It’s a clever, dense and hypnotic release that demonstrates that there’s still plenty of exploration to be done in experimental and psychedelic music.” – OneMetal

“…Darsombra really show off their ability to make awe-inspiring and atmosphere-rich material that will instantly hook even the most anti of Drone fanatics. However, they also counter a lot of the unique material with overly simple droning riffs or effects that really pull you out of the environment they spent so much, or even so little time to establish.” – Apoch’s Metal Review

EARTH: Spin Magazine Premieres New Track From Contemporary Legends

Posted in drone metal, drone rock, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on January 12, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Following the release of EARTH‘s praised Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I, released by Southern Lord in February 2011, the public’s first chance to hear a number from the 2nd installment of the series has arrived.

While conceived in the same sessions as the first installment, recorded by Stuart Hallerman at Avast and mastered by Mell Detmer, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II invokes even more improvisational and unrestrained energy than its predecessor. Traces of this progression are evident in the track “His Teeth Did Brightly Shine”, the second song from the upcoming album as premiered worldwide on January 11th, 2012 by Spin Magazine, click: at this location.

Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II will be released by Southern Lord in North America on February 14th via CD, 2xLP and digital download.

EARTH:

Adrienne Davies – trap kit and percussives

Dylan Carlson – electric guitar and devices

Lori Goldston – cello and devices

Karl Blau – electric bass guitar

EARTH – Announce New Album Details

Posted in drone metal, drone rock, rock albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 6, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

The second half of Seattle drone icons EARTH‘s Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light is being prepared for release on Southern Lord in North America this February 14th on CD, LP and digital download formats.

Recorded in the same two-week session as 2011’s lauded Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I by Stuart Hallerman at Avast and mastered by Mell Detmer, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II carries on in the freely and folkloric vein of the last release and invokes even more improvisational and unrestrained energy than its predecessor.

Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II is striking in many ways, not least in the wildly improvised nature of this particular recording. The songs “Sigil Of Brass” and “The Corascene Dog” perfectly emphasize how the interplay between the foursome has evolved even further since the first installment. Meanwhile, the track “His Teeth Did Brightly Shine” veers further into an entirely other direction, recalling sounds of the great British Acid Folk generation. This new material brings forth some highly original and deeply mesmerizing tones throughout, at times more hopeful and less dark and death oriented than previous work. Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light II is ultimately a completely unanticipated direction for EARTH, and a very welcome one at that.

The line-up again consists of Dylan Carlson on guitar, Adrienne Davies on drums and percussion (on this release there is more percussion of all sorts), Lori Goldston (Nirvana, David Byrne, Black Cat Orchestra, Laura Veirs) returns on cello, and Karl Blau (K Records, Laura Veirs, Microphones) plays bass. This also marks the first time the band on the record has toured outside of the US West Coast in preparation for the album. As with the first part, it again has truly amazing artwork by Stacey Rozich. View the cover art and more at this location.
