Southern Lord label mates GOATSNAKE and PELICAN will embark on their four-city Midwest US mini-tour next week, marking GOATSNAKE‘s first time ever performing in the region and PELICAN‘s return to towns which they’ve not played in quite some time.

Uniting Southern California’s soulful doom quartet, GOATSNAKE, and Chicago’s atmospheric post-rock artisans, PELICAN, this special run of tour dates will begin in Indianapolis on December 12th. The first show also features Bongripper and more, and will be followed by a post-show after party at Kuma’s Corner, where the bands’ prior special burgers will be made available as a trio of miniatures, the event also featuring DJ Sets by Greg Anderson of GOATSNAKE and Dustin Boltjes of Skeletonwitch. The rest of the tour sees both bands playing to fans in Columbus on December 13th, Ferndale on the 14th and the final show hitting Chicago on the 15th with Cloakroom and Canadian Rifle. Since prior announcements, the Chicago show has been moved from Thalia Hall to the more intimate caves of the Empty Bottle.

GOATSNAKE continues to support their lauded Black Age Blues LP, released in June. Featuring guest contributions from David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M) and soul vocal trio Dem Preacher’s Daughters and more, the LP was recorded and mixed at Rock Falcon Franklin, Tennessee by Nick Raskulinecz (Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Rush) and mastered by Brian Big Bass Gardner (N.W.A., Stevie Wonder, Parliament). Ending a fifteen-year gap in full-length releases, the unstoppable entertaining album not only shows the band musically exploring new turf, it’s becoming the most triumphant album of GOATSNAKE‘s career.

PELICAN‘s most recent release, The Cliff EP was released in February, featuring a new track as well as four remixes of “The Cliff” from the band’s What We All Come To Need Southern Lord LP, including remakes by Justin Broadrick (of Godflesh, Jesu), Aaron Harris and Bryant Clifford Meyer of ISIS/Palms and for only the second time in their fourteen year career, vocals. Allen Epley (Shiner, The Life and Times) once again returns to the band’s fold to transform, in a complementary manner, the concept and overall outcome of what we have come to know as PELICAN.

With GOATSNAKE‘s newest LP in a decade-and-a-half, Black Age Blues, nearing its unveiling in early June, this weekend the band has several special Southern California pre-release actions planned. First up, this Saturday, May 2nd the band will venture out to secluded Pioneertown for a one-off show at Pappy and Harriet’s. The next day, Sunday, May 3rd, sees the band hosting a public record listening party in Los Angeles where members of GOATSNAKE will be in attendance and fans can hear the entire album a full month before its release.

Interviews with GOATSNAKE at the listening party are welcomed, as are phone interviews with the band in advance of the upcoming release of Black Age Blues.

Following this weekend’s actions, the band also has a record release show in Los Angeles on May 20th, followed by their first performance at Maryland Deathfest just days later. That same week they head to Europe for a week-long tour kicking off with a set at Temples Festival.

Preorders for Black Age Blues will go live at the new GOATSNAKE store this coming Monday, May 4th alongside the release of the LP’s next single and more. In addition to the physical preorders, iTunes will have the album available for preorder offering the tracks “Black Age Blues” and “Elevated Man” for instant download, and also available to purchase individually the following day.

The maiden single from Black Age Blues, “Elevated Man,” was recently premiered at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; the vocals of Pete Stahl (Scream) vocals have never sounded so powerful, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers (The Obsessed) on drums and Scott Renner on bass is the driving force on each track, and the riffs of guitarist Greg Anderson (SunnO))), Southern Lord Recordings) are heavier than ever before. Recorded and mixed at Rock Falcon Franklin, Tennessee by Nick Raskulinecz (Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Rush) and mastered by Brian Big Bass Gardner (N.W.A., Stevie Wonder, Parliament), the production values of Black Age Blues back the top-notch musicianship, creating a seriously unstoppably entertaining album.

Black Age Blues will be released through Southern Lord Recordings in North America on June 2nd, 2015.

GOATSNAKE – Reveals Details Of Their Upcoming Full-Length, Black Age Blues, Due For Release On Southern Lord In June

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , on March 6, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Goatsnake - Black Age Blues - 2015 - promo album cover pic - GMO03

GOATSNAKE is ready to unveil the details of their first full-length in fifteen years, entitled Black Age Blues, the album to be released via Southern Lord on June 2nd, 2015.

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the four members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; Pete Stahl’s vocals have never sounded so good, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers on drums and Scott Renner on bass are the driving force on each track and Greg Anderson’s riffs are heavier than ever before.

Appearing on the album intro to “Another River To Cross” is acoustic guitar courtesy of David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M), the track also containing previously released recordings from GOATSNAKE’s The River. Piano is played by Mathias Schneeberger and Petra Haden contributes violin and vocals. Another welcome addition to the album, across multiple tracks, are brilliant backing vocals by Dem Preacher’s Daughters: Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes and Andrea Merrit.

Black Age Blues is familiar, but nothing here is a repetition of what we’ve heard before, as GOATSNAKE continues to refine the timeless, ultra-heavy rock that they are infamous for, surpassing even the highest of expectations.

The track listing and front cover, with photography and design from Samantha Muljat have been released. Audio samples and much more will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Below is a full rundown of GOATSNAKE’s current list of upcoming live shows in the US and Europe, including appearances at prestigious events such as Maryland Deathfest in the US and Temples Festival in the UK.

Los Angeles, California’s GOATSNAKE has announced further live dates in Europe, kicking off at the end of May with their set at Temples Festival, and taking the band through territories new to them. This news comes alongside the completion of the recording of the band’s new album, which will see release on Southern Lord this Summer.

The new GOATSNAKE album will feature the familiar faces of Greg Rogers (The Obsessed, Sonic Medusa), providing drums, Greg Anderson (Sunn O)))) taking care of the riffs, Pete Stahl (Scream, Wool, Earthlings?) on vocals, along with new bassist and Cape Fear North Carolina legend Scott Renner (Brickbat, Sourvein, Sonic Medusa).

On production duties is Nick Raskulinecz, who, since being introduced to Dave Grohl during the recording sessions of Flower of Disease, has gone on to work with seminal artists such as Rush, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Ghost and has won Grammys with The Foo Fighters. United again, he and the band are sure to serve a menacing cut of the time-honored, ultra-heavy rock they are infamous for.

While further details on the record are to come, Greg Anderson offered some advance insight: “We are beyond stoked about the new ‘Snake album. We all rose to the occasion and with the help of Nick and the state of Tennessee delivered the fucking goods. More soul, more power, more balls.”

Watch GOATSNAKE‘s entire energetic headlining performance at 2014’s Southwest Terror Fest at Metal Injection HERE.
