From Metal Blade Records:

We are very excited to welcome Hamferð from the Faroe Islands to the Metal Blade roster! The band will be releasing a new album in 2018.

Hamferð comments: “We’re thrilled and proud to announce that we have signed a recording agreement with Metal Blade Records! Since we started out back in 2008 we have worked closely with our local label TUTL. The cooperation has been rewarding and our ties will not be severed completely. However, for the upcoming album and in the future we felt it was time to work with an internationally renowned metal label to hopefully help take Hamferð to the next level as a band. We feel positive and confident about Metal Blade’s setup and their commitment towards quality as the label houses many of our favorite artists and has released a ton of groundbreaking releases. Their legacy and dedication to metal music is vital. Our new record has been a long time coming. Needless to say, we are extremely excited to finally set it up for release!”

About Hamferð:

Hamferð refers to an apparition: the image of a person facing death, appearing before his or her loved ones as an omen.

“Faroese doom metal” is a powerful sound. Exclusive to this self-styled tag is Hamferð. For a near decade, the funeral dressed sextet has been casting a unique expression rooted in conceptual tragedy and intense, narrative doom metal.

“Hamferð is heavily inspired by our natural surroundings and our cultural heritage. Those aspects combine into unique feelings and atmospheres which we attempt to describe through our music”, comments guitarist Theodor Kapnas.

Faroese history and folklore are mixed together with grand atmospheres, a trademark that has earned worldwide attention. Stages at festivals such as Inferno, Midgardsblot, Tuska, Summer Breeze, Wacken and many more have been turned into funerary ceremonies. Touring with bands like Amorphis and Moonsorrow has further garnered the band a respected reputation due to strong yet solemn live performances.

The lyrical and conceptual approach is ambitious in scope. People are drawn to it, even though the band sings in their native tongue, Faroese. With a highly engaging idea concerning lyrics and songwriting, the hour has arrived to close a conceptual trilogy which commenced with the 2010 EP Vilst er siðsta fet, continued with the internationally acclaimed 2013 full-length album Evst, and is now concluded with the new album, soon to be announced.

Hamferð line-up:
Jon Aldara – Vocals
John Egholm – Guitar
Theodor Kapnas – Guitar
Isak Petersen – Bass
Esmar Joensen – Keyboards
Remi Johannesen – Drums

Dark Descent To Release DESOLATE SHRINE’s ‘Deliverance From The Godless Void’ In November

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on September 22, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

DESOLATE SHRINE - Deliverance From The Godless Void - cover promo - #3MO88ILMFSO33

Finnish Death Metal trio DESOLATE SHRINE will release new album Deliverance from the Godless Void November 10 on Dark Descent Records. The album’s opening track, “The Primordial One,” is streaming below and at https://youtu.be/4q2Ua5RV-pI

It may be DESOLATE SHRINE’s fourth album (third on Dark Descent Records) in six years, but the band shows no sign of fatigue on their newest opus. The band continues to erase the already thin line existing between Black, Death and Doom and once again come out of the abyss with their own instantly recognizable style.

Recorded during 2016 with the same core trio since 2011’s debut Tenebrous Towers, this new beast, while no less epic than its predecessors (three of the seven songs featured here are at over eight minutes long) is even more textured and tortured while at the same time highly atmospheric.  And while a track like “Unmask the Face of False” may be the heaviest and slowest they’ve ever done, that doesn’t prevent “Demonic Evocation Prayer” from being transfigured by hellish blast beats either. Still, as with each of their albums, DESOLATE SHRINE‘s latest full-length is to be considered like one big entity, almost like a ceremony if you will, one that demands to be experienced from beginning to end without interruption.

The album artwork was created by L.L. Dan Lowndes – mastered Deliverance from the Godless Void at Resonance Sound Studio.

TRACK LIST:

  1. The Primordial One
  2. Lord of the Three Realms
  3. Unmask the Face of False
  4. The Waters of Man
  5. The Graeae
  6. Demonic Evocation Prayer
  7. The Silent Star
  8. …of Hell

Rest In Peace, David Zablidowsky, aka David Z.

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 19, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Above photo, from L to R: Jordan Cannata, Russell Allen, Mike Orlando and David Z.

Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family of David Z. and to the members of Adrenaline Mob, their crew, families and friends. May David Z. rest in peace.

______________________________

Yes, 2017 has continued where 2016 left off, in regards to losing way too many of our Rock and Metal musicians. David Zablidowsky, aka David Z., passed away on July 14th in Florida, while on tour with his bandmates of Adrenaline Mob. He was only 38 years old. David Z. was killed due to a tractor-trailer hitting the bands’ RV from behind, while said RV was getting a flat tire changed on the side of a highway. If you want the horrible details to this accident, please read about it somewhere else; here at Metal Odyssey I want to celebrate David Z. and Adrenaline Mob, without giving the same carbon-copied details of such a horrifying accident, like too many other music sites are doing right now.

David Z. played bass for Adrenaline Mob, had his own band ZO2 and also performed for the fabulous Trans Siberian Orchestra aka TSO. David Z. played bass for Adrenaline Mobs’ newest studio album: We The People. This is the only Adrenaline Mob album that David Z. plays bass on and he has forever left a wonderful legacy of music. As a fan of both TSO and Adrenaline Mob, I will state without question that both of these music acts thrive on employing the very best musicians of their respective craft; David Z. was no exception.

As a fan, I try my hardest to purchase CDs and merch whenever I have the extra money. I urge you to please buy the new Adrenaline Mob album, play it loud and listen to David Z. play his bass; this is a grand way to celebrate both David Z. and the band. Adrenaline Mob also need every ounce of our support at this time, commenting encouragement and kindness to them on their social media sites I highly recommend. We as fans need to stand by Adrenaline Mob, now more than ever. – Stone

SLOUGH FEG – Rejoins CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , on July 18, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

San Francisco true Metal troubadours SLOUGH FEG have rejoined Italy’s Cruz Del Sur Music, the label behind the band’s heralded “Atavism” (2005), “Hardworlder” (2007) and “Ape Uprising!” (2009) albums.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Mike Scalzi: “We are happy to announce that we are back with Cruz Del Sur Music and will begin recording a new album in July! We believe that a smaller ’boutique’ label such as Cruz Del Sur is appropriate for our sound, fanbase and work ethic, and look forward to working with Enrico [Leccese] and company again.”

“I am extremely excited to have SLOUGH FEG back on Cruz Del Sur!” says Leccese. “It is always nice when bands you like track you down. It’s even more special when it’s someone you’ve worked with for about ten years and established a friendly relationship. It’s a recognition that we were doing something right in the past. I can’t wait to hear the new album and share it with the Metal world.”

Continues Scalzi: “The new album will be called ‘The New Organon’, and the songs are somewhat of a return to the heavier side of our sound: more rustic, heavy, churning, medieval/Celtic and proggy sounding riffs, as opposed to the more ’70s rock sounds of more recent albums. But don’t worry: there will be a couple of rockers as well! We will also have some newer, experimental songwriting styles, mixing heavy rock and Metal with the melodic sounds of ’50s and ’60s pop. Imagine DEL SHANNON singing for BLUE CHEER! After all, it wouldn’t be a SLOUGH FEG album without some bizarre surprises!

So, journey we more into the vaults of the Voi-vaudevillian…the Epic-cure for all Epicurean Angst and Ennui. The Celtic cacophony continues!”

One of the most inventive and unique bands to emerge from the American Metal scene, SLOUGH FEG was originally formed in 1990 in Central Pennsylvania under the name THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG. Later that year, the band relocated to San Francisco, which has remained their home base ever since. After releasing a series of demos and their debut self-titled album in 1996, the band signed to Dragonheart Records for the release of 1999’s Celtic music-infused “Twilight of the Idols”. The sprawling “Down Among the Deadmen” would follow in 2000, setting the stage for their monumental sci-fi epic “Traveller”, which was released in 2003.

In 2005, the band shortened their name to simply SLOUGH FEG and signed to Cruz Del Sur Music. That year’s “Atavism” brought SLOUGH FEG into international prominence, with the metal scene hailing Scalzi’s innate brand of storytelling and the band’s penchant for NWOBHM-like dynamics, as found on songs such as “I Will Kill You / You Will Die”, “Hiberno-Latin Invasion” and “Man Out of Time”.

2007’s “Hardworlder” would follow-up “Atavism” in grand fashion, with the band effortlessly blending compact, twin guitar-driven motifs on “The Return of Dr. Universe” and the title track, while showcasing Scalzi’s gruff, one-of-a-kind vocal delivery on the folk-oriented “The Sea Wolf”. The heavier and more straightforward “Ape Uprising!” would see the light of day in 2009, with the band embracing its pure metal and progressive rock music roots on the doomy “The Hunchback of Notre Doom” and vibrant “Simian Manifesto”.

SLOUGH FEG’s 2010’s “The Animal Spirits” saw a joint release by Canada’s Profound Lore Music in North America and Cruz Del Sur in Europe, before moving on to Metal Blade Records for the box-set reissue of the “Twilight of the Idols”, “Down Among the Deadmen” and “Traveller” albums in early 2013. Metal Blade then released SLOUGH FEG’s ninth studio album, “Digital Resistance” in February 2014.

SATYRICON – Unveil First Details About Brand New Album!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on July 13, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

As reported by Napalm Records:

Nearly three years in the making, SATYRICON have announced that ‘Deep calleth upon Deep’, their highly anticipated ninth studio album, is set for release on 22nd September via Napalm Records.

Recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser (who previously worked on SATYRICON’s 2006 album, ‘Now, Diabolical’), ‘Deep calleth upon Deep’ is not just a new collection of songs from one of extreme music’s most enduring and reliable bands: this is a wholesale reinvention and a brand new era in SATYRICON history.

Frontman and visionary, Satyr informs us “Approaching this release, what I always kept in mind is that either this is the beginning of something new or it’s gonna be my last record. If this is going to be the last, then it needs to be something special. If there are more records, then I’d better make sure that this is so different from the last one that it feels like a new beginning. I think it’s really, really dark, very spiritual and filled with confidence and energy.”

‘Deep calleth upon Deep’ is a profound statement about the essence of SATYRICON’s music and the eternal value of art itself. Satyr continues, “The way that I see it is that for any art, be it SATYRICON or any other form of art with substance, in order for you to be able to inhale and completely understand it, it will take a little bit of you as well. If you get it all after a couple of listens, you know that it probably won’t stay with you. So the title is saying, ‘From the depth of the people making this record to the depth of the listener…’ If you want to take part in this journey, you should be prepared to dig deep down in the darkest corner of your soul with us.”

SATYRICON is also proud to share the album’s front cover – an obscure drawing from 1898 by perhaps the greatest Norwegian artist of all time, Edvard Munch.

‘Deep calleth upon Deep’ will be released in digital format, a CD digipak and gatefold vinyl options. Pre-orders will go live in August.

Boris Records Announce Vinyl Reissue Of HELLGOAT Debut

Posted in Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 9, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Boris Records is set to release the long overdue vinyl edition of the debut full-length album from U.S. Black Metal nihilists Hellgoat. Seventeen years after its initial release, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues has been remastered and pressed for an August 8th release.

The vinyl re-issue comes ahead of the four-date “Satanists in Flames” tour with Nyogthaeblisz. Cities and dates are as follows:

August 17 – Providence, Rhode Island

August 18 – Gaithersburg, Maryland

August 19 – Brooklyn, New York

August 20 – Wilmington, Delaware

___________________________

Formed in 2004 with a relentless commitment to never compromise, Hellgoat unleashed three demos before recording their debut album, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues, released in 2005 on CD alone and in a limited run.

At a time when Black Metal bands were experimenting with symphonic or progressive elements, Hellgoat drew inspiration from the ancient masters and released eight tracks of hateful Black Metal.

Building on this base, Hellgoat subsequently released two albums and numerous EP’s. They have taken their gospel of hate on the road, having toured extensively in every region of the country, as well as internationally.

For the very first time, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues is being released on vinyl, newly remastered from the original mix and specifically for vinyl by Mammoth Sound Mastering. This is a haunting, savage, visceral assault on the senses. Prepare yourself for Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues.

The band’s seventh full-length offering and second recorded reel-to-reel, Vengeful Ascension was captured at Earth Analog in Tolono, Illinois with longtime soundman and comrade Jarrett Pritchard (1349, Gruesome). A sonic manifestation of war, chaos, desolation, and emotional conflict, seamlessly bridging twenty years of the band’s signature brand of audio venom, Vengeful Ascension finds its members at their most accomplished both individually and as a cohesive unit.

Guitarist Sammy Duet’s dense, sub nuclear riff work and possessed solo blitzes are at their most devastating spiraling flawlessly and instinctually around drummer Zack Simmons‘ and bassist James Harvey’s hammering rhythms with frontman Ben Falgoust’s distinctly commanding roar, his acidic prose more enunciated than ever before, complimenting the apocalyptic proceedings.

The Mighty ARGUS Return With ‘From Fields of Fire’ Sept 8th On Cruz Del Sur Music

ARGUS - From Fields Of Fire - promo cover pic - 2017 - #33MO73ILMFSO3

Four years after the release Beyond the Martyrs, mighty U.S. Heavy Metal torchbearers ARGUS will release From Fields of Fire September 8th on Cruz Del Sur Music! From Fields of Fire is the defining moment from a band that has delivered the goods album after album. It is the highlight of their career to date and it is an album that will be seen as a highlight in heavy metal circles, not just this year, but for years to come.

ARGUS no longer needs an introduction. Three studio albums, three EPs, several European tours and US showcases and festival appearances have established the name of ARGUS as an established force in the Heavy Metal Universe. Yet, ARGUS is a band not content to rest on its achievements. This is a band that is still hungry – a growing and strengthening animal that shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Judging from the outside almost nothing seems to have changed this time around on From Fields of Fire. Another exceptional and visionary cover provided by Brad Moore, and an Intro / Outro on the track list, another of ARGUS‘ trademarks through all their records. But it’s when you get on the inside, when you bite this album below the flesh to the bones that you realize ARGUS has not only been able to maintain their uniqueness, but the band has raised the quality of their creativity and therefore raised the stakes for their future.

ARGUS:

Brian ‘Butch’ Balich – Vocals

Dave Watson – Guitars

Jason Mucio – Guitars

Justin Campbell – Bass

There’s a definite step ahead in terms of production and songwriting, which has reached the highest quality with the addition of producer and guitarist Dave Watson and bassist Justin Campbell in the line-up. The tense opener “Devils of Your Time” and the emotional closing “No Right to Grieve” are the songs that most clearly express their courage and confidence of exploring unusual sonic paths.

But it’s the entire album that confirms that ARGUS is probably the best band nowadays to pay homage to traditional heavy metal without merely aping their heroes. This is true Metal with doom elements, two worlds that often touch, but have never been as well synthesized into a single, organic sound as they are here. From Fields of Fire features some real Heavy Metal gems: the infectious melodies and guitar-drive of “You Are the Curse” and “216,” the moody “Hour of Longing,” the galloping sound of “As a Thousand Thieves” and the borderline epic, ever-shifting majesty of “Infinite Lives, Infinite Doors.”

From Fields of Fire is an album that whose parts are as strong as the whole, where each track is a highlight; yet, it is also an album that demands to be absorbed as a whole where the music, lyrics and atmosphere reach deep inside of you and take root as your appreciation of this band and this music grows to be a part of you.

Track Listing:

  1. Into The Fields Of Fire
  2. Devils Of Your Time
  3. As A Thousand Thieves
  4. 216
  5. You Are The Curse
  6. Infinite Lives Infinite Doors
  7. Hour Of Longing
  8. No Right To Grieve
  9. From The Fields Of Fire

For their seventh studio album, DRAGONFORCE has opened up their sound like never before, capturing the fierce, forlorn and fun with both menace and melody. I think we have proven that playing fast was something we were good at, so this time I wanted to bring even more diversity into our music,” comments bassist Frederic Leclercq. “It’s great to challenge ourselves instead of staying in a comfort zone, and I really wanted to experiment with [lead vocalist] Marc [Hudson]’s vocals. I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality!” The first album to feature Gee Anzalone, the Italian drummer has laid down an impressive performance to provide the perfect backbone to the DRAGONFORCE sound, which of course still boasts the band’s trademark insanely fast solos, courtesy of guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman.

Recording the bulk of the album at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with producer Jens Bogren, the band also laid down tracks while touring their Killer Elite best of-album, utilizing Lamerluser Studios, (London, UK), Dark Lane Studios (Witney, UK), as well as the band’s own Evil1 Studios in Charleville-Mezieres, France and Shredforce One Studios (California, US). ATRIARCH – Announces Forthcoming Album “Dead As Truth” – New Song Streaming

Posted in Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , on July 4, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Ritualistic, apocalyptic noisemakers, ATRIARCH, are back with their fourth offering of mind-altering, doom-soaked, deathrock entitled Dead As Truth. Recorded and mixed by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios (Om, Graves At Sea, Vhol) and featuring artwork by Stevie Floyd (Yob, Dark Castle), Dead As Truth sees ATRIARCH venture deeper into the blackened abyss with haunting incantations, exotic drones, and crushing aural experimentations that boldly embrace death’s cold heart.

Fragments of post-punk, Gothic Doom, Black Metal, Sludge, and noise complement the band’s desolate universe and further supplement their most immediate and formidable release to date. ATRIARCH prescribe the order that there is but one truth and that is death.

Listen to opening track “Inferno,” from Dead As Truth via YouTube and Soundcloud HERE or Bandcamp HERE (or below) plus all streaming services.

Dead As Truth is set for release on August 11th on CD, LP, and digital formats via Relapse Records. Physical packages and digital orders are available via Relapse.com HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Dead As Truth – Track Listing:

  1. Inferno
  2. Dead
  3. Devolver
  4. Void
  5. Repent
  6. Hopeless
  7. Void (Demo) (Digital Bonus Track)
  8. Dead (Demo) (Digital Bonus Track)
  9. Repent (Demo) (Digital Bonus Track)

ATRIARCH will open for labelmates Inter Arma on a short run of West Coast dates this August with additional dates to be announced shortly.

ATRIARCH w/ Inter Arma:

8/11/2017 The Cobalt – Vancouver, B

8/12/2017 Barboza – Seattle, WA

8/13/2017 Doug Fir Lounge – Portland, OR

8/17/2017 Thee Parkside – San Francisco, CA

Formed in 2009 in Portland, Oregon, ATRIARCH delivers a unique brand of sonic darkness, pulling influence from classic deathrock and infusing it with their own style of heaviness. Catharsis is their strength, both on record and during their intensely memorable live performances. The band released their first album Forever The End in 2011 on Seventh Rule Recordings which was followed by a split EP with Alaric on 20 Buck Spin and their sophomore full-length Ritual Of Passing on Profound Lore in 2012.

In 2014, they signed with Relapse Records and released An Unending Pathway to immense critical acclaim. Their fourth album, Dead As Truth, promises to be even more bleak, hypnotic, and explosive than anything the band has recorded to date.

ATRIARCH:

Lenny Smith – vocals

Joshua Dark – guitar

Andrew Stromstad – bass

Maxamillion Avila – drums

DEAD EARTH POLITICS – Part Ways With Drummer

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 1, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Dead Earth Politics - band logo - B&W - 2013

Austin, Texas-based Metal group DEAD EARTH POLITICS has parted ways with drummer Mason Evans.

Evans co-founded DEAD EARTH POLITICS in 2005 with vocalist Ven Scott and contributed heavily to the band’s meteoric rise through the Austin Metal scene.

The band issued the following statement on Evan’s departure:

“One of the toughest decisions to make in a band is whether or not to part ways with a brother who has been there from the beginning. Mason is a founding member whose input and talents drove DEAD EARTH POLITICS’ from the onset. With that in mind we are announcing that due to various differences, we have decided to part ways. We wish Mason the absolute very best in his future endeavors and we are stoked as hell to share some big developments with everyone in the very near future.”

The announcement comes on the heels of DEAD EARTH POLITICS‘ 20-city “We Are Runescarred” tour in support of their latest EP The Mobius Hammersmith. Released in March through Pavement Music, The Mobius Hammersmith is the final chapter in a trilogy that began with 2014’s The Queen of Steel.

The band will spend the coming months working on material for a planned full-length release while searching for a new drummer.

Forged from the soul of the Austin metal scene, DEAD EARTH POLITICS is a blade that cuts like no other. Having been compared to the likes of Lamb of God, Iron Maiden, Pantera and other legends, this band strikes at many cores.

DEAD EARTH POLITICS is a five-time recipient of the Austin Chronicle’s “Best Performing Metal Band,” winning the award every year from 2012-2016.

They were also honored in 2014 with the “Ultimate Local Music Worldwide Track of the Year” for “Redneck Dragonslayer,” the opening track on The Queen of Steel EP.
