HYPERSTRIKE – Unleashes Anthemic Fury with “Savage Sword”

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on February 2, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Seattle (WA) – Powerhouse Action-Metal band, Hyperstrike, is back with an explosive new single, “Savage Sword,” on all digital platforms!

Serving as the ultimate rallying cry for those who know we live in a simulation, this track challenges listeners to confront the fabric of reality itself. “Savage Sword” tells the story of a world trapped in an artificial construct controlled by an evil deity broadcasting illusions from Saturn. Hyperstrike asks the provocative question: what if everything you see is a lie? The song’s protagonist wields the savage sword, a symbol of truth and rebellion, to sever the deceptive veil and spark a revolt against this cosmic oppressor.

“Savage Sword” follows close behind debut single, “Warning Shot.” Both cuts will appear on the band’s long-awaited debut album, High Risk, a ten-track thrill ride that drops this spring, delivering an unrelenting assault of melody, power, and precision.

Each of the album’s songs plunges listeners into a high-stakes narrative, from the devastating chaos of “Meltdown (Stop the Reactor)” to the primal defiance of “Steel Heart” and the warrior’s anthem “King of the Slain.” The album captures the sound of rebellion with blistering guitar solos, thunderous rhythms, and vocals that alternate between soaring and savage. Recorded in the heart of Seattle’s legendary metal scene, High Risk cements Hyperstrike’s reputation as a band that dares to push boundaries while delivering unforgettable hooks. Brace yourselves for the countdown to the most electrifying release of 2025 is on!

New Video/Single Now Playing + Preorders Available

After thirteen years of silence, an unsettling sound that is strangely familiar yet somehow even more haunted re-emerges from the Arkansas depths. There is no mistake as to what this is. RWAKE has released a new transmission. The Return Of Magik, set for release on March 14th via Relapse Records, has arrived.

Years have now fed into an album that reaches into a swirling, cosmic unknown – RWAKE has grown, and the perspective of the material has shifted accordingly. Overwhelming at its peak and haunting during moments of respite, The Return Of Magik is undeniably RWAKE.

Every movement feels like an emotionally engrossing journey. Arrangements carefully and thoughtfully built in layers over a period of years lend mystique and a feeling of building toward a cathartic release. There is no box into which the material might fit other than one with the band’s name on it.

Today, the band shares the official video for the album’s title track.

Watch RWAKE’s “The Return Of Magik” video, directed by Nouvel Photo & Film, on YouTube HERE. Stream the track HERE.

The Return Of Magik will be released on CD, LP, and digital formats. Find preorders at Relapse.com HERE.

The Return Of Magik Track Listing:

  1. You Swore We’d Always Be Together
  2. The Return Of Magik
  3. With Stardust Flowers
  4. Distant Constellations And The Psychedelic Incarceration
  5. In After Reverse
  6. Φ

Additionally, RWAKE has announced their first shows of 2025 around the release of The Return Of Magik – including a hometown release show on March 15th.

RWAKE Live:

3/14/2025 Eastside Bowl – Nashville, TN [tickets]

3/15/2025 Rev Room – Little Rock, AR [tickets] * Record Release Show

4/11/2025 Bear’s – Shreveport, LA [tickets]

4/12/2025 Siberia – New Orleans, LA [tickets]

RWAKE:
C.T. – vocals, words, theme
Reid – bass guitars, distortion
John – guitars, lap + pedal steel, 12-string bass
Austin – guitars
Brittany – energy peddler, keys and a microphone
Jeff – drums, acoustic guitar, 12-string bass

* “…Psychedelic Incarceration” written and spoken by Jim “Dandy” Mangrum, February 17th, 2024 in Black Oak, Arkansas.

Recorded in early 2024 at East End Sounds in Hensley, Arkansas, The Return Of Magik introduces RWAKE’s new lead guitarist Austin Sublett with a barrage of shredded solos suited to the angular, progressive metal riffing of the album’s most jaw-clenching moments, while presenting a through-line of molten, immersive ambience.

The opener “You Swore We’d Always Be Together” – already a fixture of live sets – and the expansive sprawl of “Distant Constellations And The Psychedelic Incarceration” move with cruelty and grace alike. Foreboding, syncopated riffs sway against Moog-driven space and guttural bellows. The Return Of Magik’s songs stand alone as individualized post-metallic blends of genres.

RWAKE remains dually fronted; Chris Terry’s powerful vocals lay against Brittany Fugate’s visceral screams. Jeff Morgan returns to the drum kit, in addition to acoustic guitar and 12-string bass. Bassist/noisemaker Reid Raley, Sublett, and fellow guitarist John Judkins set an instrumental backdrop that is vast and engrossing in itself – quiet, contemplative passages often explode into gut-wrenching, doomed out distortions. The Return Of Magik, which features artwork by Loni Gillum of Minerva’s Menagerie and RWAKE, burns brighter and beyond the ferocity of the band’s already storied catalog.

Although the Magik may be bleak, the manner in which RWAKE revels in it can only be called a celebration.

Today, alongside the worldwide launch of pre-orders, GOTTHARD are also excited to reveal the cover artwork for Stereo Crush, set to hit the shelves on March 21, 2025 via RPM. The artwork, designed by Thomas Ewerhard, who has previously collaborated with the band, perfectly encapsulates the album’s themes of honesty, rawness, and a broad spectrum of emotions.

Freddy [Scherer; guitars] came to my house with the musical idea for this song. We started there and came up with the structure and the vocal melodies together and recorded the demo there. I then spent quite some time figuring out lyrics. The sound of the chorus riff somehow sounded electric to me, and I was thinking of words like ‘lightning’ and thunder’ etc…and then I thought of the concept of how lightning never strikes twice but in this case it does, using this as a metaphor for love. Also in French, which I’m fluent in, you can say that ‘love at first sight’ is like getting hit by a bolt of lightning,” singer Nic Maeder sheds light on the track’s creation.

HELLFEST OPEN AIR FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE CONFIRMED

January 14, 2025 – A fierce new voice emerging from the intersection of punk and metal, French musician Lucie Sue and her eponymous band make their U.S. debut with the single “Battlestation.” The track arrives alongside a bold, high-energy video that captures Lucie’s rebellious spirit and unbridled charisma.

Joined by bandmates Mitch, Laura and Enzo, “Battlestation” is a perfect showcase for Lucie’s signature sound – dark, heavy riffs overlaid with Lucie’s vocals – part spoken word, part infection chorus. A powerful fusion of ’90s grunge and modern metal, “Battlestation” hits hard both sonically and lyrically, serving as a manifesto of female empowerment.

Rolling Stone France said of the track: “Direct and powerful, it mixes modern and vintage influences without forgetting the musician’s signature style…”

“Battlestation” digital single cover

A child of the MTV generation, Lucie escaped to the sounds of L7, Metallica and PJ Harvey after her cello lessons at the Lyon National Conservatory. An accomplished visual artist, she pivoted to music during the COVID lockdowns; her stylish, DIY releases quickly gaining a devout following via social media.

Already booked for Hellfest 2025, a full-length album and tour dates will come later this year (more details to be announced soon). With her distinctive style and boundless energy, Lucie Sue is poised to become one of the most exciting musical breakthroughs of 2025.

SABER – “Without Warning” (Re-Release) Out On February 7th via ROAR

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on January 6, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

SABER is an LA-based metal band known for their uniquely sleazy take on the NWOBHM sound. The band emerged organically in 2018 after lead guitarist Joel Dominguez – who was already working on some similar material with rhythm guitarist Jesus Delgado and bassist David Sanchez, received a message from singer Steven Villa about starting a new 80s inspired project.

A series of thundering tracks followed soon after, which were refined into their 2021 debut album Without Warning. Produced and released with the help of Trevor William Church, who also filled in as the drummer, the album was overwhelmingly positively received, being named as one of Bandcamp’s best albums of the year and outranking Exodus and Iron Maiden on BraveWords’ annual Top 30 list.

https://saber.rpm.link/woutwarning

Sonically and aesthetically, Saber’s artistic identity is firmly rooted in the 80s. With Jesus now as their drummer and the addition of guitarist Antonio ‘Yogi’ Pettinato, the fearsome fivesome pass influences from Judas Priest and Queensryche to Riot and Iron Maiden through a unique lens, creating a distinctly energetic audiovisual experience that resonates with their diverse and growing fanbase.

Steven Villa – Lead Vocals
Joel Dominguez – Lead/Rhythm Guitar
Jesus Delgado – Drums
David Sanchez – Bass Guitar
Antonion Pettinato – Rhythm/Lead Guitar

Happy New Year! Some Metal And Non Metal Thoughts On 2024

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 31, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Another year is about to come to a close and I have some random thoughts to share; both Metal and not so Metal. I could easily write volumes of thoughts down, yet I’ll stick to this being an easy read.

We live in a crazy and dynamic world right now; then again, when has there been a time it hasn’t been? We sadly said goodbye to many musicians that have passed away in 2024. Paul Di’Anno, Jack Russell, Dickey Betts, James Kottak, C.J. Snare and Toby Keith are a grouping that hit home for me. Legends all and God bless them. Yes, there were so many others that left us from all music genres.

Above: photo I took of the 2024 Solar Eclipse

The Solar eclipse happened on April 8th and my family and I had front row seats to this event; right in our own backyard in Western Ohio. We all wore those weird cardboard sunglasses that were given out or sold everywhere to look at it straight on. It didn’t get black as night; yet that solar eclipse did come close to doing so. A fun experience it was.

Above: (1987) Topps Rickey Henderson 1986 All-Star insert/subset card

Rickey Henderson was a Major League Baseball player I grew up watching and rooting for. He’s one of my favorites ever. Rickey passed away on December 20th of 2024, leaving behind an incredible Hall of Fame career; best remembered as a member of the Oakland A’s. Rickey did play for over 4 seasons with the New York Yankees and remains the all-time stolen base leader in MLB. God bless him.

Thank you to all for visiting and supporting Metal Odyssey this past year and have a safe, healthy and prosperous new year!

A very special thank you to Tanis Enos for her amazing and popular contributions to Metal Odysseys’ content; with her concert reviews, interviews, album reviews and photography.

Thank you to Scott Coverdale, ALL the PR agencies, bands, record labels and every visitor for making this Metal Odyssey machine a success for over 16 years! Metal be thy name. – Stone

AAWKS – Unleashes New Single “Death Trip (Naglfar)” From Their Forthcoming Album “On Through The Sky Maze”

Posted in doom metal, fuzz rock, Hard Rock, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 23, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Canadian heavy psychedelic rock ensemble AAWKS has announced the release of their latest single, “Death Trip (Naglfar)“, a preview of their eagerly anticipated album On Through The Sky Maze scheduled for release on March 21, 2025. This new track is available now for fans who appreciate a blend of intense rock dynamics and mystical lyrical themes.

“Death Trip (Naglfar)” sets a bold tone for the upcoming album with its powerful lyrics and immersive soundscapes. The single reflects AAWKS‘ continued evolution, incorporating heavier riffs, grooves, and a compelling narrative of otherworldly voyages and cosmic battles. The band encourages listeners to delve into the track, whether they think they’re cool or not, with a tongue-in-cheek nod to their laid-back ethos.

Lyrics from the single paint a vivid picture: “Beware of these towering sails, This death ship is heavy with nails. Now is the time of the storm, These angry spirits begin to transform.”

AAWKS continues to captivate with their unique blend of stoner, doom, fuzz rock, and sludge, all while exploring fantastical themes. The upcoming album On Through The Sky Maze promises to take listeners on a darker journey through themes of the occult, life and death, and demonology. With the addition of new bassist and vocalist Ryan “Grimepup” Mailman, the album showcases a heavier and more intense version of AAWKS, perfect for those late-night hours spent in the shadows of forests and swamps.

AAWKS:
Kris Dzierzbicki (guitar/vocals)
Roberto Paraíso (guitar)
Randylin Babic (drums)
Ryan “Grime Pup” Mailman – bass/vocals

About AAWKS:
Hailing from the mysterious foothills of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie Ontario Canada, AAWKS make heavy-psych, stoner-doom music. They mix melodic songwriting with pummeling riffs and grooves and their music is as influenced by newer bands such as MEPHISTOFELES, MONOLORD, WINDHAND and the MELVINS as it is by classic rock bands like BLACK SABBATH, PINK FLOYD and DEEP PURPLE.

They explore fantastical themes of the occult and spin tales of mind expansion and spaced out exploration of the multiverse. AAWKS released their debut full length album (((((HEAVY ON THE COSMIC))))) in June of 2022 on Black Throne Productions which landed at #2 on the Doom Charts that month.

Progressive Rock/Metal Outfit EDEN CIRCUS Releases First New Music After 10 Years

Posted in Hard Rock, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , on December 18, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Another hot contender for taking the longest time to release new music, Hamburg’s own progressive rock/metal outfit EDEN CIRCUS are back with their new single ‘Cynics of Life‘.

STREAM ‘CYNICS OF LIFE’ HERE

10 years have now passed since the last album “Marula” by the five-piece northern German post-prog rockers EDEN CIRCUS. Since then, events have accelerated. First the band has to say goodbye to both guitarists, because Andi is leaving the band and guitarist Nils is moving to the Krupps. Not only are two important driving forces lost, but also the previous songwriting process.

After Waik and Dennis joined the band, they finally played a few gigs again and worked on the new album. Even before Covid paralyzes the entire music landscape, numerous other events turn the band’s everyday life upside down: people move, build houses and 2 1/2 recording studios, start families and new bands. Sometimes the five of them don’t see each other for weeks. But there was never any talk about quitting.

Because the rare rehearsals always clearly show that the band can still deliver. In addition, the new record is finished and, despite all the new commitments, no one has lost the joy of presenting their songs to an audience that celebrates their music on sweaty, beer-soaked club evenings. So here’s to something new!

About ONI:
Formed in 2014 by vocalist Jake Oni, ONI quickly became one of Canada’s most promising metal artists with his distinct amalgam of experimental progressive songwriting, brute metalcore savagery and cathartic melody. ONI roared to life with the release of his 2016 debut album, Ironshore, which was produced by Josh Wilbur (Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Dillinger Escape Plan) and featured guest vocals by Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe on the song “The Only Cure.”

ONI followed up with a monstrous Alone EP in 2019, and returned with his critically lauded second full-length, Loathing Light in 2022, that boasted guests Iggy Pop and Blythe on the song “Secrets” and “Heart To Stone,” which was featured on Spotify’s Best of Kickass Metal 2022 playlist.

Along his meteoric rise in the metal scene, ONI has shared the stage with acts like Megadeth, Gojira, Bullet for My Valentine, Starset, Children of Bodom, Rob Zombie, Death Angel and The Devin Townsend Project.

ONI released his third full-length album, “The Silver Line,” in 2023. The metal artist’s most dynamic yet cohesive album yet was produced, mixed, and mastered by the duo of Spiritbox bassist Josh Gilbert and Joe McQueen (As I Lay Dying, Light The Torch, Bad Wolves). “The Silver Line” is as ambitious as it is catchy and incisive. A quick perusal of the guests featured on ONI’s third album reveals the wide range of his appeal.

Silence In a Room of Lies” pairs ONI with YouTuber and musician Jared Dines. “Underneath My Skin” features Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn. “Aura” boasts Gilbert and ex-Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones. Pop-punk-resurgence star Sueco lends his voice to “Spark.” “The Silver Line” ups the ante once more, adding another full-length chapter to ONI’s ever-expanding songbook.

ANIMA INSIDE New Single / Music Video “Alien” Captures The Essence of Their Evolution In Expanding Their Musical Fusion

Posted in Hard Rock, Music, music news, music videos with tags , , , , , on December 7, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Rockshots Records

Anima Inside, one of South America’s (Ecuadar) most dynamic and boundary-pushing rock bands, returns with their latest single, “Alien”. This track offers a mesmerizing preview of the band’s forthcoming album set to release in 2025. True to their spirit of innovation, the band describes “Alien” as one of their most unique creations. It captures the essence of their evolution, an ever-expanding fusion of styles that remains unmistakably their own.

With its hypnotic blend of influences, “Alien” delivers a fresh and timeless sound. The song features an intricate guitar solo, vibrant rhythmic layers, and an emotive message that resonates deeply with today’s listeners. As the band puts it, “It’s probably the strangest song we’ve ever created, but it has something that makes you want to hear it over and over. The fusion, the solo, the message; it’s very Anima Inside and incredibly current.”

Since their beginnings in 2006, Anima Inside has been known for its ability to blend progressive rock roots with modern, mainstream accessibility. “Alien” encapsulates this evolution perfectly, balancing technical prowess with a raw emotional edge. The song’s themes of alienation and introspection echo the band’s ongoing exploration of the human condition, a recurring motif in their music.

This single marks the next step in a career that has seen Anima Inside perform alongside legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple, and KISS, and share stages at major festivals such as Hell and Heaven Fest Mexico and Domination MX. Their sound has always defied easy categorization, weaving elements of progressive rock, Andean rhythms, and Afro-Latin influences into a style that is distinctly their own.

“Alien” is a testament to the band’s commitment to pushing creative boundaries while staying true to their roots. It serves as both a standalone piece of art and a tantalizing introduction to the sonic journey their upcoming album promises to deliver. With its unforgettable hooks, striking instrumentation, and profound lyrics, the track is a perfect reflection of the versatility and artistry that define Anima Inside.

As the band prepares for the release of their next full-length record, “Alien” stands as a bold statement of intent, showcasing their ability to innovate while maintaining the essence of what has made them one of the most recognized names in South American rock. Keep an eye on Anima Inside as they gear up for what promises to be an extraordinary 2025, and don’t miss “Alien” now available on all major streaming platforms.

ELVENKING – Italian Pagan/Folk Metal Outfit Releases “Throes Of Atonement” Video/Single

Italian pagan/folk metal outfit and recent Reaper Entertainment signees ELVENKING have unveiled their latest single, “Throes Of Atonement.” The release is accompanied by a striking lyric video crafted by acclaimed artist René Berthiaume and perfectly captures the dark and emotional essence of the track.

The band comments, “‘Throes Of Atonement’ reflects a big part of the atmospheres and the mood of this third and final chapter of the Reader Of The Runes concept trilogy. It pays tribute to the epic power metal of the ‘90s, a significant influence for our early days to the extent that it could almost come out of our first album Heathenreel.

This album delves into the past of the characters in this story, revealing the reasons behind the Reader Of The Runes‘ wrath in the previous chapter. ‘Throes Of Atonement’ focuses on two characters, exploring adolescent jealousy and narrow-mindedness that ultimately leads to hatred and betrayal. For all the harm inflicted, whether intentional or unintentional, the ultimate punishments were penance and death.”

With “Throes Of Atonement,” ELVENKING once again showcases their mastery in storytelling, blending epic melodies with profound themes.

VENAMORIS (PAULA AND DAVE LOMBARDO) RELEASE DARKLY ETHEREAL HOLIDAY SINGLE: “WINTER’S WHISPERS”

Posted in holiday music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on December 3, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

IPECAC RECORDINGS’ DEBUT COMING IN 2025

Dec. 3, 2024, LOS ANGELES – With the holiday season in full swing, Venamoris – the husband-and-wife duo of Dave and Paula Lombardo – release “Winter’s Whispers,” a standalone, seasonal single out now via Ipecac Recordings.

“‘Winter’s Whispers’ is a nod to our wavering, romantic love of the many vibes of the season,” the pair shared.

“Venamoris is such an intimate project for the two of us,” Dave Lombardo said as the pair released “In The Shadows” last month. “To have our sophomore album in Ipecac’s exceptionally skilled hands is a dream realized. We are ecstatic to be a part of this audacious label.”

Venamoris captures the essence of a sound that is darkly alluring and deeply emotional, blending sultry vocals with mesmerizing instrumentation to create an enveloping experience. Like a whispered secret, there’s something seductive yet provocative about the noir-tinged songs they create. Brooklyn Vegan, describing an earlier single, adeptly said Venamoris has “Portishead meets David Lynch vibes.”

The duo are currently working on their sophomore album for a 2025 release. Additional details will be shared soon.

Finnish Hard Rock Band Rimbacher Releases Their Debut Album: High Hopes On The Rocks

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on November 3, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Photographer: Heikki Sulander

Finnish hard rock band Rimbacher released their debut album High Hopes On The Rocks on November 1st via Inverse Records. The album presents classic AOR vibes, 80’s stadium rock sized attitude and also some hard straighforward rock and roll. The skillful band seasons their music with spices like powerful vocal harmonies, catchy melodies and classical art of guitar heroism.

Listen to the album on music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal etc.): https://push.fm/fl/rimbacher-hhotr

Bass player Reisca Morani tells about the album:

“High Hopes On The Rocks is a very traditional classic rock album including tight brawl and love songs. The atmosphere revolves around big riffs and guitar heroism combined with very melodic and harmonic vocals. The lyrical themes are either timeless stories about the struggles of a sensitive narrator as well as having fun. The soundscape itself has very high energy and spirit throughout the whole album and the songs are delightfully diverse compared to each other. However the the core essence stays solid and the band’s enthusiasm is well heard.”

Guitar player Osku “Sticky” Kilpi continues:

”This album is what we think rock ’n’ roll is all about: plain, simple and straightforward hard rock with all the ups and downs of a typical rock album. No politics, no exceptions, no bulls**t.”

High Hopes On The Rockstrack list:

  1. Worldkiller
  2. Luxury
  3. Dry Body Passion
  4. Loving You (Is Loving a Broken)
  5. Cocaine Eyes & Nicotine Stains
  6. Pluto
  7. Rock To Ruin
  8. Chasing Ghosts
  9. Out For More
  10. The Last Breath Of Rock ‘n’ Roll

Line-up:
Niko Rimbacher – Vocals
Osku ”Sticky” Kilpi – Guitar
Jim ”Jimbo” Heikkinen – Guitar
