GRAMMA VEDETTA – Announce New Album Release Date

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , on November 10, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

GRAMMA VEDETTA’s new album The Hum of The Machine will be released on May 27, 2022. The London-based dynamic duo draw inspiration from vintage sci-fi of the late 70s and early 80s. Heavily distorted guitars, soaring melodies and driving rhythms create a huge progressive sound that transcends this dimension.

“We’re stoked by what we achieved with The Hum Of The Machine. This album is a complete audio and visual experience – we can’t stop listening to it. Each song has been crafted with great attention to detail and top-notch production. Talented illustrators helped us to translate our sounds to images and we can’t stop exploring it. With this album we have definitely reached a higher level, with our own sound, different from everything you ever heard before.”

Forming in 2017, GRAMMA VEDETTA released their debut EP Proof of Concept in 2018 with a grunge focus, followed by the 2020 EP A.C.I.D Compliant that leaned into stoner rock. The new album delves further into the progressive world. The Hum of The Machine is a collection of nine scenes that tell the story of a man who seeks to remain unique in a world where compliance ensures you a place in the upper echelons of society. “A Chance To Win The Orb” delivers an explosive opening to the album producing a wall of sound. Throughout the album the duo unleashes their creativity through different styles. The fuzz-driven banger “Robots For Wars” precedes a darker, haunting atmosphere unveiled in “A Broken Time Machine”, while “The Future Of The Past” brings immense impact through the guitars and an incredibly catchy vocal hook.

Characterised by immense sounding riffs, down-tuned instruments and their passion for science fiction. Aptly portraying themes explored in Sci-Fi literature and films with their own distinctive vision, GRAMMA VEDETTA have designed a thrilling album. The Hum of The Machine is an exploration into the unknown that is not to be missed.

FEAR IS DEAD – Releases New Track

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , on November 6, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

NYC’s FEAR IS DEAD have released their new single “Disciples of Death”. The song is the follow up to their last single “Assimilation” which was released earlier this year. The band’s cross of metal and hardcore will appeal to fans of BIOHAZARD, SICK OF IT ALL and more!

The band was born from and transcends the everyday struggle, exploring the darker, deeper, and sometimes grittier side of the human experience. Five EPs have been released to date-Fear Is Dead, Mourning ritual, Eleutherophobia, What Remains and Omnicidal. In 2019, following their last release, the band put together a short but well-received west coast tour. Launching from Vegas to California, then up the western seaboard to Seattle and back, making new fans and friends along the way

FEAR IS DEAD has shared the stage with notable local artists like REBELMATIC, SOLEMN VISION, and touring bands like Hed P.E. The group has also been featured in publications such as Metal Injection, Metal Underground.com, Aquarian Weekly, Tattoo.Com, and New Noise Magazine.

The guys are currently working on their first full-length LP to be released in 2022. The present lineup consists of the front-man and founder, Skila, and David English (guitarist for the last three EPs, and second senior member). SPACE COKE – To Release New Album ‘Lunacy’

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , on November 3, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

On January 14 2022 psychedelic rockers SPACECOKE will release their new album Lunacy.

The band comments: “We have an origin theme that a trip to space is a breakaway from a society gone mad. A planet that has built up civilizations based on power and oppression. Also mix that with the SPACE COKE scene from Cheech and Chong’s movie. Reno grew up in a diverse multicultural household and likes his music and musical companions to reflect that. SPACE COKE is aural magic to ground us in how small our planet and its affectations are in an immeasurable existence.”

Lunacy is a Twilight Zone-like journey and will be both darker and more occult themed than previous albums. Each musician’s influences add to the complexity of the album and lend to something far beyond the traditional hallmarks of fuzz and bass. Reno Gooch pulls from his childhood of listening to Indian classical, as well as contemporary artists such as SUN RA, SONIC YOUTH and ANTHONY BRAXTON, plus some of rocks most well known godfathers: BLACK SABBATH, MOTHERS OF INVENTION and JIMI HENDRIX.

If you’re ready to embark on a journey from which you may not return, SPACE COKE will be your guide. As they say: If the amp don’t smoke, it ain’t SPACE COKE.

More information will be available soon.

LEATHÜRBITCH – Signed To Shadow Kingdom Records

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , , on November 3, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

SHADOW KINGDOM RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of LEATHÜRBITCH. The first fruit of this union will be the band’s highly anticipated second album, to be released in 2022.

Formed in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, LEATHÜRBITCH have quickly ascended the underground ranks with the release of their self-titled debut EP in 2018 and successive debut album, Into the Night, a year later via High Roller Records. With the sound of early ‘80s Sunset Strip AND first Metal Massacre comps as their foundation, LEATHÜRBITCH have created an addicting blend of vicious sleaze and propulsive speed, all done with power, poignancy, and above all, a larger-than-life charisma.

Think early Ratt, W.A.S.P., and even Mötley Crüe meets equally early Jag Panzer, Bitch, and Armored Saint – and SHADOW KINGDOM will be bringing that to stereos soon with the band’s second album!

JESTR – To Release New Album

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , on November 2, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Alternative hard rock quartet JESTR, will release their debut album The Dead & The Riches on Feb 11th 2021. The band draws inspiration from mythology, the paranormal along with any curious manifestations or bizarre tales. Based out of Lafayette, Louisiana, JESTR was initially devised as a solo project by Brett Bradley at the end of 2019, the name JESTR comes from a strong spiritual experience Brett had. Recording for the debut album began in late 2020, with the band’s current line-up materialising in spring of 2021.

“We are absolutely overjoyed to share with you all our debut LP The Dead & Riches. This album has been one heck of an experience and we cannot wait for y’all to take the driver’s seat with this record. We hope you have as good a time listening to it as we did making it!”

Ranging from intimate vocals with acoustic guitar accompaniment, through to heavy distortion and powerful rhythms, The Dead and Riches is a dynamic album that isn’t afraid to have some fun. “Ghost of You” alludes to alt rock of the early noughties while “Birth of a Charlatan” delivers a darkly humorous impact. Throughout the record, instrumental and vocal melodies are artfully crafted into experimental harmonies and high energy levels elevate JESTR’s sound.

JESTR aren’t afraid to explore the unfavourable aspects of life, but make sure to come out the other side laughing. The energetic outfit have aptly portrayed some hauntingly dark themes with a humorous, light-hearted twist. The Dead and Riches is an unexpected and highly enjoyable album to experience.

Band Members:
Brett Bradley: vocals, lead guitar.

STRIKER Is Not Dead! They Just Have A “Deathwish” And It’s A New Single!

Posted in Heavy Metal with tags , , , , , on October 20, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

Canadian heavy metal powerhouse STRIKER is back from the grave!

With rumours running rampant of the band calling it quits after they posted an image that was titled “RIP Striker 2007-2021” on their social media earlier this week, the award-winning shredders are excited to reveal that it was all just an ambiguous post that got fans speculating on the band’s future and was made to prepare them for the new music.

“We are finally ready to share our new single Deathwish. Inspired by 1980s AOR with a modern twist, Deathwish is a heavy metal banger we can’t wait to play live someday soon!” adds vocalist Dan Cleary.

The single is the first taste of new recordings since releasing their Juno award-winning album 2018’s “Play To Win” along with it being Striker‘s introductory track with new drummer Jonathan Webster and bassist Pete Klassen who join the band in 2019.

“Deathwish” can be heard at the following links:

Euro Tour w/ Unleash The Archers Canceled

In additional news, Striker was scheduled to support Unleash The Archers on their upcoming European tour this November, which was just recently announced as canceled. The band does vow there will be live shows in the cards for them in 2022 with concert updates to be shared when confirmed.

Champions in blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Striker have been making shredtacular anthems since 2007. The band has toured multiple times across Europe and North America along with festival appearances at 70,000 Tons of Metal, Bang Your Head Festival (Germany), and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade-plus career.

The band has been honoured with multiple Best Album awards in their home country of Canada from the JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Edmonton Music Awards. Since their inception, Striker has released six studio albums: Eyes in the Night (2010, Iron Kodex), Armed to The Teeth (2012, Napalm), City of Gold (2014, Napalm), Stand in the Fire (2016, Record Breaking), Striker (2017, Record Breaking), and Play to Win (2018, Record Breaking).

SCORPIONS – ‘Big City Nights’ – A Look At A Terrific Greatest Hits CD From 1998

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, world news with tags , , , , , , , , , on May 27, 2020 by Metal Odyssey

Many years ago, I bought this cool Scorpions CD: Big City Nights (Rebound Records). I remember buying it new and it was pretty cheap; the price was around $5 or so. I believe it was Walmart that had this CD too; sometimes my memory amazes me, despite not remembering what I ate for dinner yesterday. Truth. Here is a one-sentence rant before I continue: Scorpions should be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!!

Okay, I shall continue onward. I love this band. Every era of Scorpions I love. I was fortunate to see them headline the M3 Rock Festival back in 2010, with my great/best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale. What a fun time. Just about every song on this Big City Nights compilation was performed by the Scorpions at that M3 Rock Festival; at least to the best of my (once again) amazing memory. Chuckle, chuckle. I’ve presented the tracklist for this CD below, no worries.

I have grown extremely tired of Still Loving You and I’m certain I’m not alone. That song never really hit me. No big deal for it’s the only Scorpions song out of their iconic catalog that I just skip over. Rock You Like A Hurricane is teetering on the edge of being tiresome for me. What saves this song for me at this point is the guitar solo. Enough negativity! I do get psyched out of my cranium by Can’t Live Without You, No One Like You, Big City Nights and Rhythm Of Love. All these songs I’ve mentioned in this post are on this CD.

I’m happy I bought this Scorpions CD when I did. I have no plans to get rid of it either. That’s a good thing, due to my selling off of many CDs in recent years. As you look over the tracklist on the back of this CD, you’ll see there are 4 songs that are live versions. The live songs are from the stupendous World Wide Live from 1985, with the exception of Wind Of Change which is from Live Bites (1995).

Granted, this CD compilation is missing many classic Scorpions songs; heck, it’s only one CD and I’m certain it was never meant to be a definitive Scorpions greatest hits package. Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey, I truly appreciate it. Please stay safe out there, help out one another and… Metal Be Thy Name. – Stone

DRIFT INTO BLACK – Atmospheric/Experimental Gloom Metal Project Featuring Former Member Of Grey Skies Fallen Releases “Shadow People” EP; Full Stream Available

Drift Into Black - Shadow People EP - promo cover pic - 2017

For close to twenty years, Craig Rossi has handled keyboard duties for the Doom Metal band Grey Skies Fallen, recording four albums, two EPs, and two singles with the group. He’s performed numerous shows across the US sharing the same stage with the likes of Opeth, Anathema, Arch Enemy, Amorphis, and Katatonia. He’s since embarked on a new musical journey with atmospheric/experimental gloom metal project DRIFT INTO BLACK and his recently-issued Shadow People EP.

Boasting five depressive tracks, the eclectic sounds comprising Shadow People draw inspiration from a vast array of genres including dark rock, atmospheric, and Doom Metal. Rossi has taken on the task of vocals, guitars, keyboards, mixing, and mastering, along with the help of a hired session drummer. Notes Rossi, “I wanted the production on this EP to sound pale with less crisp than most records; a gloomy sound stage due to the fact that the lyrical content deals with dark human elements. If Anathema, Tiamat, Black Sabbath, and Katatonia all had a love child, DRIFT INTO BLACK would be it.”

ROSETTA Joins The Pelagic Records Roster For The Release Of “Utopioid” Later This Month; Limited Edition Vinyl Available

Posted in Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on December 28, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Rosetta - Utopoid - promo cover pic - 2017 - #MO01

Utopioid is the sixth full-length from Philadelphia’s ROSETTA. Written as a four-part song cycle that treads multipolar extremes of texture and dynamics, it reaches the highest heights and the deepest lows of the band’s career and serves as their most concept-driven work to date. An unflinching study of human aspiration, frailty, and betrayal, the album is equal parts mysticism and the band’s own biography, encapsulating and transcending their fourteen years of sonic experimentation.

Initially released earlier this year independently by the band, Pelagic will be releasing the captivating release on limited edition vinyl and CD. Secure your copy HERE.

Stream the record at THIS LOCATION or below:

Formed in Philadelphia in 2003 as a four-piece, ROSETTA‘s first two albums — 2005’s The Galilean Satellites and 2007’s Wake/Lift — pulled together elements from ’90s hardcore, drone, doom, and atmospheric sludge metal. Informed as much by the minimal soundscapes of Stars Of The Lid as by the pulverizing weight of Godflesh, the band’s compositions had a spaced-out, exploratory feel, appropriately dubbed “metal for astronauts.” 2010’s A Determinism Of Morality moved on from celestial themes, focusing on increased melodic sophistication while honing a confrontational urgency.

After concluding a decade-long partnership with Translation Loss Records in 2013, ROSETTA embraced their newfound independence with the self-funded, pay-as-you-wish album The Anaesthete. The darkest, most unsettling album of the band’s career also marked their greatest success so far, recouping costs in twenty-four hours and remaining the top-selling release on Bandcamp for nearly a month. 2015’s Quintessential Ephemera, ROSETTA‘s first effort as a five-piece, received widespread critical and audience acclaim for its energized guitar interplay and evolution of the band’s core sound.

With Utopioid, ROSETTA has again upended their stylistic palette. But as always, with ever deeper gratitude for the investment of fans around the world, they continue to search for the intersection of heaviness and beauty.

“Apparently when somebody is close to death by asphyxiation, they will experience a euphoric high as they begin to lose consciousness. A similar sensation may be felt by listening to Utopioid, a soundtrack for floating in the cosmos, without the risk of actually having to suffocate oneself-or, for those who happen to be an astronaut, without having to remove one’s helmet in the middle of deep space.” — Bandcamp Daily

JOE SATRIANI AND ROBIN DIMAGGIO TEAM UP ON ORIGINAL SONG FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE UNITED NATIONS GALA

Posted in guitarists, Music, music news, news, world news with tags , , , , on June 9, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Song to Debut at the Annual Presidential General Assembly of the UN 69TH Session Gala on June 30th

______________________

(Los Angeles, CA) World renowned guitarist, JOE SATRIANI and UN Musical Director ROBIN DIMAGGIO, have teamed up to compose and produce a new song entitled, “Music Without Words” to be unveiled at the June 30th Annual Presidential General Assembly of the UN 69th Session Gala in New York City. The Assembly and Gala feature world dignitaries as well as the Heads of States from nations across the globe. Accompanying the song will be a video, compiled by the UN, featuring footage of people the world over.

The song was co-written by the two exclusively for this event and produced by DiMaggio as the UN Musical Director. On his collaboration with SATRIANI, DiMaggio stated “Working with Joe has brought a new meaning to music, this masterpiece was a collaboration of elegance and prestige. This unforgettable melody is for all the human beings in sync with enlightenment and peace.”

A meeting between these two iconic musicians first took place when Robin, as musical director for the Arsenio Hall Show, asked SATRIANI to sit in with his band last fall. A friendship sparked between the two and discussions of collaborating for the UN, began. Fast forward to June 30th when the piece will debut at the UN Assembly. “Robin came to me with a beautiful challenge,” SATRIANI says, “to create a melody that would touch the hearts of six billion people, a call to humanity, a message of love. He sent me an awesome groove to get the ball rolling, I sent him back a melody, and we kept the collaboration going until we were both blown away. I’m thrilled with the final mix and can’t wait for people to hear it.”

The song also features vocals from Ms Monet, a Grammy-award winning vocalist, songwriter and performer who has sung with everyone from Boz Scaggs to Faith Hill, Toto and Queen Latifah. It was DiMaggio’s decision, to blend the beauty of Ms Monet’s vocals with SATRIANI’s guitar to create such an incredibly moving piece.

SATRIANI is currently readying his 15th solo album, “Shockwave Supernova” for release on July 24th. SATRIANI is the world’s most commercially successful solo guitar performer, with six gold and platinum discs to his credit (including one more gold award for the debut album by his band Chickenfoot), and sales in excess of 10 million copies. The critically acclaimed guitarist also has 15 Grammy nominations for songs such as “Always With Me, Always With You,” “The Crush Of Love,” and “Summer Song,” as well as full albums like Surfing With The Alien, The Extremist and Super Colossal.

Robin DiMaggio is a musical force to be reckoned with. Known as one of the world’s premiere drummers and classical/world percussionists, Robin is also a highly skilled songwriter, composer, conductor, arranger, producer, engineer, and instrumentalist. He has toured and recorded with veterans such as Paul Simon, David Bowie, Jackson Browne, Diana Ross, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Luther Vandross, Lil Jon, Martina McBride, Daft Punk, Johnny Cash, and Chris Isaak, as well as with acclaimed world musicians, sitarist/composer Ravi Shankar and violin maestro L. Shankar. He has also appeared on David Letterman and has performed at the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, and the MTV Music Awards, and was Musical Director and drummer for late-night TV’s Arsenio Hall Show on CBS Syndication, and TBS’ Lopez Tonight, hosted by George Lopez.

Having traveled extensively from an early age, Robin’s music incorporates rhythms and sounds from diverse cultures throughout the world. The vast array of influences in Robin’s life have made him a charismatic ambassador of the arts. For the fifth straight year, Robin has been assigned the returning position of Music Director for the United Nations, where one of his many responsibilities includes coordinating musical guests for the official General Assembly Summit in New York City each September at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria. Robin produced former Eagles guitarist Don Felder’s 2012 album, Road to Forever, and Stephen Bishop’s 2014 release, Be Here Then. Robin has some incredible projects in the works, as he is in the preliminary stages of his new vision — the first U.N. School of Art, Culture and Music in Southern California.

Without Warning, This Song Starts Playing In My Head: Melanie – “Brand New Key”

Posted in classic rock, folk music, folk rock, metal odyssey, Music, rock and roll, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on July 27, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

Do you ever have those days, where a song starts playing in your head and you absolutely, positively, don’t know why? It happens to me all the time, therefore I’m quite used to it. 99% of the time, the song that invades my brain is Metal or at least one from the many Rock genres. Today was different though. Real different. This was a Folk Pop song going all the way back to 1971. The artist? Melanie. The song? Brand New Key. Whoa. Um, whoa again.

I do remember this song quite well however, while growing up as a very young lad back in those early 1970’s. When Brand New Key was released, I was only five years old. Metal be thy name. While this reminder of my childhood days played out in my head today, I could vividly remember the smile it brought to my mothers face all those years ago. My mother used to sing along to Brand New Key while driving the car, God rest her soul. Hearing and seeing her so joyful from this song, made me feel like everything around me was happy, safe and sound. My sister used to sing along to this song as well, as it played on AM radio. I believe I sang along too… or tried to.

What prompted Brand New Key to play out in my head today? I just don’t know. I can’t explain it. The one thing I do like about having this vintage song popping into my head, is the reminder of easier and innocent days of being just a child and singing along with my mother and sister. Reflecting on a simple moment in time. Happy memories, especially when they are triggered by a song… are truly priceless. I’ll never underestimate the magic powers of music.

Quick Facts About Brand New Key:

Melanie – Brand New Key was released on Neighborhood Records.

Melanie – Brand New Key: Climbed to #1 status on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, back in December of 1971.

Brand New Key – On Movie Soundtracks:

Brand New Key is on the Boogie Nights (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), which was released back in 1997 on Capitol Records.

Brand New Key is on the jackass 3D Soundtrack (various artists), having been released in 2010 on Epitaph.
