The legendary LITA FORD stumbled upon her lost recordings from a collection of 24-track analog tapes and the end result (after some tape baking) is an eleven song studio album titled: Time Capsule. This new album will be released on April 15th, 2016.

LITA FORD had asked several Hard Rock superstars to record with her that were within her studio reach, at the time, so many years ago. During these self-produced recording sessions, LITA FORD is featured with: Billy Sheehan (bass), Dave Navarro (mandolin), Jeff Scott Soto (sings duet with Lita), Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander (backing vocals), Gene Simmons (bass), Chris Holmes (intro) and Rodger Carter on drums. All of these songs were recorded in the moment of creative spontaneity. Metal be thy name! – Stone

Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

LITA FORD – It has been quite a Metal treat to realize that the legendary Lita Ford has made quite a Metal comeback, these past several years. With no songs present from her Wicked Wonderland album from 2009, this new live Lita Ford album is 100% classic, Rockin’ and Rollin’, leather boot stompin’ and good-times fun! Every fan of Lita Ford, 80’s Heavy Metal and Classic Rock in the universe must own this album! Yes my Metal brethren, Lita Ford is back!

From her cover of the iconic Elton John’s The Bitch Is Back, to her huge 80’s smash Kiss Me Deadly, Lita Ford and her kick-ass band perform an energetic, contagious and memorable live set of 12 songs, without any silent break in-between to mess things up. Lita Ford’s vocals sound sensational, along with her ultra cool guitar licks! This is seriously a live album that stands out among live Heavy Rock albums, in my Metal opinion; with an enthusiastic throng of Los Angeles fans cheering for every Lita Ford song!

Lita Ford - The Bitch Is Back - Live - promo cd - liner notes pic

Recorded at The Canyon Club in Agoura, California, the overall sound and production is top-tier on this live album. As a bonus, the liner notes kick Metal ass too! A 9 panel fold-out poster is the liner notes, which includes a huge and super cool photo of Lita Ford caught live onstage. The backside of this poster is incredibly loaded with dozens of full-color, live photos of Lita Ford; photos which fans took and contributed for this release! Lita Ford even lists each fan that contributed a live photo of her… and that’s a class act, from a tried and true Heavy Rockin’ class act. Lita Ford has never left the Rockin’ building after all. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, heavy metal news, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on April 29, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

The legendary Lita Ford is returning once again with another “new” studio album. Living Like A Runaway will be released in North America on June 19th, 2012, via SPV/Steamhammer. Let’s all hope it’s not anywhere near like her last (2009) studio album: Wicked Wonderland. Ouch.

I haven’t gone looking for or heard any samples of Lita’s new album. The album cover alone definitely gives me a positive Rockin’ impression. There’s something mysteriously cool about railroad tracks on an album cover. The “highway theme” on album covers has been done far too often over the years. Railroad tracks, well, they… Rock.

From what I’ve gathered, the 2 – CD Live & Inspired from Godsmack will be released on May 15th, 2012, via Universal Republic. I dig Godsmack. Their last album, The Oracle, kicked my ass.

There was this moment I vividly recall; I was traveling by mule through the far reaches of the Northern Connecticut woods, when I was confronted by an elder and very wise Metalhead troll. My journey was abruptly stopped so he could tell me: “Stone, you just cannot deny the heavy music of them Godsmack dudes.”

Well, that’s it. Those are my Metal and Rock ‘N Roll thoughts for Sunday, April 29th, 2012. Not many, still, a couple of ’em for you to ponder and comment about. Metal be thy name.

LITA FORD “Out For Blood” – Revisiting Lita’s 1983 Debut Album

Posted in classic rock, glam metal, Hair Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, metal music, metal odyssey, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on February 11, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

LITA FORD – First, let me point out that this debut album from Lita Ford is out of print. Yes, Out For Blood is not going to be purchased on the cheap. Brand new CD’s of Out For Blood are selling on Amazon.com, with currently four to choose from. The price range for a “new/unopened” copy of Out For Blood is $99.82 to $193.96. (U.S. funds). Plus, you have to add $2.98 in shipping cost! Whoa, who would have thought this debut album from Lita Ford would be this rare on CD? I’m certain finding Out For Blood in mint condition on vinyl is no easy Metal task either. Vinyl is listed at Amazon.com with a price range of $4.78 to $19.98, (U.S. funds), depending on condition.

There is a light at the end of the Metal tunnel though… used copies of Out For Blood are available at Amazon.com and there is a price range once again! Are you ready? Here it is: $17.98 to $91.48. Again, add $2.98 for shipping. I’ll say this much, I’m very much at peace with owning the cassette version of Out For Blood… for now. My Out For Blood cassette plays just fine and it’s in Metal mint shape too. Before you run over to Itunes… let me warn you… Out For Blood is not for sale there. “Out of print” often times covers the digital download retail world too.

Out For Blood was released on Mercury Records, back in 1983. Lita Ford’s new solo career following her five year years with The Runaways had just begun! The Runaways had formed in 1975 and broke up in 1979. Heavy Metal and Hard Rock was obviously on Lita Ford’s mind and in her heart. From 1983 to 2009, Lita Ford released seven studio albums and her catalog of music does back up her obvious loyalty to the heavier side of Rock. Certainly, one can point at the album cover (both versions) for Out For Blood and state this exemplifies Hair Metal of the early 80’s. Lita Ford can very well be considered a pioneer of the Hair Metal genre… no argument from Stone here.

Besides looking like a sexy Heavy Metal goddess on this Out For Blood album cover, I always felt the real deal about Lita Ford was the music heard within these songs. Back in 1983, there wasn’t an abundance of female Heavy Metal vocalists out there… especially one’s that played some lean and mean guitar like Lita. I took to Lita Ford from the onset and no, it wasn’t all due to her looking so hot. (Well, it did help). Hey, a hot blooded seventeen year old Metalhead in 1983 is gonna have his fantasy crushes and Lita Ford caused quite abuzz amongst my buddies too back then. Heck, with the likes of Ozzy, Angus, Lemmy and Cronos staring at me from the pages of mags and posters back then, seeing Lita Ford grace an album cover was much more easier on my eyes! Metal be thy name.

After all these years, um, decades, there has never been any question with me that Lita Ford can sing and play some slick guitar licks. This Out For Blood album is where Lita Ford catapulted herself into the Heavy Metal realm. Out For Blood is still a (gasp) fun and Rockin’ listen for me today. For all the Hair Metal and 80’s Heavy Metal/Arena Rock maniacs out there: not owning this Lita Ford album is a tragic misfortune. Listening to Out For Blood in 2011 brings me back to those days, when I was being mesmerized by the hour from a never ceasing influx of Heavy Metal bands. I’ll say it again in different words, Lita Ford really lets loose some melodic leads and cool riffs while not being shy of laying down some psyche-you-out solos.

Any Metalhead from this early 80’s era who says they never played some air guitar to a Lita Ford album is, well, their nose is growing by the second. It’s time to come clean, my fellow Metalhead air guitar brothers. Regardless of anyone’s personal opinion to the contrary, Lita Ford and Out For Blood represents an important and historic chapter in Heavy Metal and Hard Rock history, in my Metal opinion. Lita Ford, along with her former Runaways band mate Joan Jett, (and I can never forget) Pat Benatar, all made me realize those many years ago, that yes, girls can really… ROCK.

* My mentioning Amazon.com in this and other posts is not my endorsing them. The same goes for Itunes. Metal Odyssey receives nothing in return from Amazon.com or Itunes, whenever they are mentioned in any post. I just feel that Amazon.com makes for a fair and realistic measuring “device” to see what these classic albums/CD’s are selling for in the current marketplace.

Above: The original 1983 album cover of Out For Blood. The album cover shown at the top of this post is the re-released version. My cassette of Out For Blood is the re-release version.

* Out For Blood was produced by Neil Merryweather. The executive producer was Artie Ripp.

TWISTED SISTER – “A TWISTED CHRISTMAS” IS A HEAVY METAL HOLIDAY MUST LISTEN!

This is by far, my favorite Christmas album ever. Twisted Sister A Twisted Christmas is not just a standard, run of the mill Heavy Metal Christmas album. These are 10 Christmas songs that are truly played with spirited enthusiasm and high energy by Twisted Sister. Dee Snider really sings his heart out, honestly giving a tremendous effort especially on O Come All Ye Faithful and I’ll Be Home For Christmas. Dee Snider sings every verse, of each song, in eloquent fashion, accentuating the lyrics when the song dictates. (Hey, I’m not saying that Dee Snider is Frank Sinatra here, just that he really sings great on this album). The music is what you would come to expect, in Twisted Sister/Heavy Metal fashion. Lita Ford appears on vocals alongside Dee Snider on I’ll Be Home For Christmas, this song is played and sung so well that it is an instant natural high for me. My twin daughters, (they are ten years old), told me the other day, that this Twisted Sister album really gets them in the Christmas spirit too… and that is without my prodding or asking them their opinion on it. To have a Christmas tradition with my daughters, that involves Twisted Sister, well, quite frankly it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Twisted Sister puts their original sound and Heavy Metal flavor to these songs, yet they do this with the upmost class. These classic Christmas songs are treated here with respect by Twisted Sister and in my Metal opinion, have made a Heavy Metal Christmas classic. I can honestly say that this album puts me in the Christmas spirit, it has now become an annual listen starting at the beginning of November! You absolutely, positively, cannot serve yourself wrong by purchasing or giving a listen to A Twisted Christmas. You most certainly will be missing out on a good time, Heavy Metal, Twisted Christmas celebration – if you don’t check this album out.

A quick Metal Odyssey note: Dee Snider is a true American Heavy Metal Hero.

A second quick Metal Odyssey note: A Twisted Christmas was released on October 17, 2006.

Oops, one more quick Metal Odyssey note: Merry Heavy Metal Christmas to the PMRC!

I SOLD MY LITA FORD “WICKED WONDERLAND” CD!

Lita Ford "Wicked Wonderland" small pic #2Yes! I got rid of it! I actually sold it! The “it” I am referring to is the absolutely annoying new album from Lita FordWicked Wonderland.  I foolishly bought the CD at Walmart for an even $10.00, (factor in the 6% sales tax and it set me back $10.60). The good Metal news is, I sold it today, finally! I brought it to f.y.e. and man, I never expected to get this much loot for it… f.y.e. took Wicked Wonderland off my hands for $6.25!! I’m NOT complaining. An extremely generous price that f.y.e. is, (for some reason), willing to pay for this CD. I was issued store credit towards other Metal purchases at f.y.e., a fine deal to me. Sure, I am out $4.35 at the end of the day, however, getting rid of this CD for any amount of money is a joyous Metal memory for me. I did state in my review, on this album, that I was definitely going to sell it… I actually held onto it for way too long.

I won’t get into the specifics as to why Wicked Wonderland is unentertaining here, (I could not put myself through writing about it a second time). You can read my fully detailed review about Wicked Wonderland on Metal Odyssey still… look for or type in – LITA FORD – “Wicked Wonderland” Is Naughty And Bad Combined. (That is the complete title of the review I posted on Metal Odyssey). At the end of the Metal day, all I can say to myself is phew, I rid my collection of some bad music. Bad. Hopefully something like this will never happen again.

LITA FORD – “Wicked Wonderland” Is Naughty And Bad Combined

Lita Ford "Wicked Wonderland" small album picAh, Lita Ford. Reflecting on the 1980’s would not be quite the same without her being in the Heavy Metal world. Lita Ford proved back in those glorious ’80’s that she was more than just eye candy, she really did shred on the guitar for her albums. Plus, Lita Ford’s vocals always had the harmonic, Heavy Metal diva flare happening. Lita Ford even did a very sappy duet with Ozzy Osbourne, Close My Eyes Forever, that I honestly could never stomach back in 1989 and my opinion has not wavered since. Well, it is 2009 and Lita Ford is back, uh, yeah. Wicked Wonderland is her new album, the title really sums it all up quite well. The lyrics throughout this entire album are wicked indeed… with nuances, imagery and flat out references to sex and lust galore. I want to taste your goddess flesh and I penetrate you are two lines taken from the song Indulge… pretty hot stuff if you are a young dude that can’t buy a date for Saturday night. Lita Ford should have known that the majority of her audience buying Wicked Wonderland are the Old School Heavy Metal crowd and we are no longer eighteen and pissed off at our parents anymore.

In the very recent issue of Revolver Magazine, (December 2009), Lita Ford states that “There’s no law that says just because you grow up, you have to stop being naughty”. Oh, it gets better… “The album is pretty much based on our home life”. Lita, Lita, oh, Lita Ford. I will interject here by saying – and this is my quote here – there is a Metal law that says just because you grow up, YOU HAVE TO STOP making annoying music. Plus, it is NOT a turn on for me, to know what goes on in your bedroom. Ew. Now, this is coming from a middle aged Metalhead who is extremely open minded to all Metal Music that has ever existed, plus I kinda like to keep the intimacy that occurs in my home, with my wife, a secret. That is the REAL turn on for me. Sure, there will be a crowd out there that wants to know what Lita Ford does in her, um, spare time, I am not one of them.

To actually listen to all fifteen songs on Wicked Wonderland was like listening to a once glorified Heavy Metal star just pushing out tunes because she’s famous and she can. It appears that Lita Ford’s husband Jim Gillette lends his background vocals throughout Wicked Wonderland. Man, this guy sounds not just creepy, he is a major league part of the ANNOYING FACTOR that this album illuminates. Ugh. I guess Jim Gillette used to be the lead vocalist for some band called… Nitro. Nitro? Does not ring a Metal bell for me. Let me put this in perspective here… Bed is the worst song I have ever listened to in my life. Wicked Wonderland is without question, the worst “Heavy Metal” album that I have bought since, well, since ever. “Tie me to the bed”… these lyrics alongside some of the most bothersome guitar you will ever listen to, throw in the constant ANNOYING keyboards and you have the epitome of BAD.

Is there at least one song on Wicked Wonderland that is at least… tolerable? Uh, let’s see… maybe Scream 4 Me is a bit groovy. Metal truth be told, if Lita Ford created more songs like Scream 4 Me on this album, it would have been a more credible project in the end. It is extremely rare for me to put any album or band through the Metal wringer on Metal Odyssey. Really, it has to be a monumental bad listening experience in Heavy Metal for me to bark this fierce. After listening to Wicked Wonderland twice, I felt an obligation to the Metal world to give my fair warning regarding this Lita Ford album, uh, disaster. In the end, Wicked Wonderland makes for a decent comedy album, the ending song is Push. Uh, yeah, there is sexual innuendo stacked up to the ceiling on Push. Weeeeeeeeeee! I’m selling my Wicked Sensation CD first thing Thursday morning to the used CD dealer, (I hope he buys it). Sometimes immaturity is best expressed through song, yet to combine it with lack of integrity as Lita Ford did with Wicked Wonderland is simply astonishing.

To my best Metal buddy Scott… I should have heeded your warning about this album, Metal lesson learned.
