We were really stoked on a comic about violent, motorcycle-riding monkeys. They throw their poo, just like us!” – Cremator, GHOUL

GHOUL has released a new song for the ongoing soundtrack to Image Comics’ The Humans graphic novel series. The song is available online from The Humans Soundcloud page RIGHT HERE.

The Humans comic, by Keenan Marshall Keller and Tom Neely, is set in the ’70s and follows a motorcycle gang’s exploits, but with a twist; in this world, the gangs are all apes and actual humans are primitive beasts kept around for sport. Each issue of The Humans is accompanied by two original songs released online from bands such as Goblin Cock and Witches Of God. GHOUL‘s song, “Humans Till Deth,” is an octane-fueled surf-thrash tune attached to the release of issue #8, out now.

To celebrate the release, GHOUL has also released a promotional video for the song, available for viewing on their Facebook page.

Says Ghoul bassist Cremator: “We were really stoked on a comic about violent, motorcycle-riding monkeys. They throw their poo, just like us!” Ghoul front-man Digestor added, “GHOUL has been busy writing new material, so the timing was just right. We recorded for the first time at Antisleep Studios and their wax cylinders are of the highest quality. The next album will actually and literally murder you.”

GHOUL will be recording a follow-up to their 2011 LP, Transmission Zero, for Tankcrimes Records in December of this year.

ALICE COOPER – Marvel Premiere, 50th Issue From 1979 Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Posted in classic rock, comic books, Hard Rock, Metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on November 27, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Alice Cooper - Marvel Comics - #1 - vintage comic - 1970s - #7771AC

ALICE COOPER – It’s fun what you can find from turning over stones, while doing research for a post. I was thrilled to find out that the legendary Alice Cooper had his first comic book appearance, dating back decades with Marvel Comics Group. Here I am, looking at the cover photo for this vintage comic book and realizing I never knew it existed until now! Not to sound redundant, yet, I lived for 48 years and never knew this comic book was in existence! Check out the cover price of (US) 40 cents! 40 Cents! Those were the good old days! Metal be thy name! This has all led to me declaring that this Alice Cooper comic book is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day! Whoa.

This Alice Cooper comic book is the 50th issue of Marvel Premiere, dating back to October of 1979. I want one! I did peruse ebay and Amazon, discovering several copies of this comic book for sale, ranging in prices, depending on condition. I saw this comic book selling in the $22 to $50 range in US funds. I will definitely buy this Alice Cooper comic book, this coming year. As with anything else, I don’t want to just throw cash around and disrupt my budget for necessities. All in good time is what I live by.

Alice Cooper - Marvel Comics - #1 - vintage comic - 1970s - #7771AC

The subtitle to Alice Cooper is Tales From The Inside and by the looks of the brilliant cover art, a terrifying story awaits! Obviously Alice Cooper is the protagonist, while The Doctor and Nurse Rozetta appear to be the antagonists. Other characters appearing in this story are Jackknife Johnny, Alex Cooper (mental patient/politician) and Veronica (Alice Cooper’s snake). Cool. You just cannot beat those comic books from yesteryear, especially when it comes to the covers; they always seemed to have that it factor that the modern era comics never really surpassed. That’s my opinion, of course.

I used to be more than an avid comic book collector, going back to those late 70’s and up until the early 90’s. That’s what makes finding this Alice Cooper comic book on the internet even more of a surprise; how could I never have known about it? To top it off, I read that there were 20 comic books that Alice Cooper appeared in for Marvel Comics. Unreal. There have always been hundreds, no make that thousands of different comic book titles that I’ve overlooked over my years collecting; I chalk it up to it’s not easy to know about everything!

From my ongoing research about this Alice Cooper comic book, I’ve also found out the names behind creating this piece of Americana: plot by Alice Cooper, Jim Salicrup, and Roger Stern, script by Ed Hannigan, pencils by Tom Sutton, inks by Terry Austin, editor is Roger Stern, cover colors by Marie Severin and cover by Sutton/Austin.

As reported by IDW Publishing:

The tiny terrors hit stands in an all-ages new series!

San Diego, CA  – Ah, the simple pleasures of just being a kid. Lemonade stands, little league games, advanced fort building, rocking the faces off of millions of screaming fans all over the world while thwarting the plans of your evil school Principal.

If a couple of those cherished childhood memories sound unfamiliar, that’s because they can only be found in KISS Kids, the new series starring the pint-sized rock gods! Join Starchild, Li’l Demon, Spacey, and Catkid as they get into trouble and kick out the jams in strips featuring familiar characters and settings from KISS lore. Helmed by KISS series writers Chris Ryall and Tom Waltz with fun, expressive art by Jose Holder (Mars Attacks The Real Ghostbusters), KISS Kids promises to be a treat for fans of all-ages!

“KISS is used to rocking and rolling all night and partying every day, but back when they were little’uns, those things only happened around nap time,” said Chris Ryall, also IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “This series will appeal to kids and Kiss fans of all ages, as we see the school-age band engage robots, evil teachers, other students, and much more, all filtered through the KISS lens. Beth, the school’s Doctor Love, the snooty Torpedo Girls, the bratty “Wicked” Lester, nefarious Principal Elder… they’re all here for this accessible, funny, and appealing new series.”

The new KISS Kids series, coming this fall, is being previewed in the form of a one-page strip on the back cover of all four issues of this spring’s Kiss Solo series. Fans will get their first real look at the Kiss Kids on April 10, when Kiss Solo #1: The Demon by Ryall and artist Angel Medina is released.

“Rock and Roll All Nite….and Potty Every Day,” added the L’il Demon himself, Kiss founding member, Gene Simmons.

This fall, there’s only one place for proof positive that whether you’re a Starchild or a Demon, there’s nothing better than rocking and rolling all night and reading comics every day!

Original Rock ‘n’ Roll Comics artists will be in attendance signing old issues of RnR Comics, trade paperbacks, DVDs, etc. Original copies of the actual comics will be randomly given away to attendees. Artists confirmed include Jay Allen Sanford, Spike Steffenhagen, and Robert V. Conte. Also in attendance will be director Ilko Davidov, doing a Q&A session and signing DVDs.

The Story Of Rock ‘N’ Roll Comics charts the short and controversial life of publisher Todd Loren, whose scandalous series of unauthorized comic book biographies of rock stars enraged and sometimes charmed his subjects, provoked numerous lawsuit threats from the likes of Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses and Skid Row, and eventually led to a landmark First Amendment case, all before he was savagely murdered in 1992.

This documentary mixes animation and eerie home video of Todd Loren along with interviews and commentary that reflect the range of opinions regarding his cultural legacy – Including firsthand accounts from many of the artists and writers who were inspired and exploited by Loren, all peppered with insights from both the Rock & Roll and comic book communities from such luminaries as Alice Cooper, Gary Groth, Ian Shirley, Mojo Nixon and more.

Archie Meets KISS – Comic Book Is Out Now!

Posted in classic rock, comic books, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal news, Music, pop culture, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on December 9, 2011 by Metal Odyssey

This is the Archie Meets KISS comic book that was released on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011. This is issue #627 and it sells for $2.99 (U.S.). The complete title of this comic is Archie Meets Kiss Part 1: Riverdale Rock City. The story for this comic was written by Alex Segura. Other credits: penciler – Dan Parent and Inker – Rich Koslowski.

I haven’t purchased this comic yet. Being the KISS Kollector that I am, it is inevitable that I will hunt this comic down this weekend. It’s not a pricey KISS Kollectible either and that makes it all the more attractive in adding it to my KISS Kollection.

My late sister used to collect Archie comic books (when she was a kid) like there was no tomorrow. Man, I can vividly remember her listening to KISS Double Platinum with me, back when the 70’s were coming to a close. She would have gotten quite a kick out of seeing this Archie Meets KISS comic. I’m certain she is still seeing it though, from where she is. Metal be thy name.

KISS – just about any and every item you can think of, has had the KISS logo or images of the band put on them. From lunch boxes to boxer shorts. Over the years, (since the late 1970’s), I have collected KISS collectibles. Still, I would not consider my KISS kollection to be very huge at all. In fact, my KISS kollection is quite modest, I have for some reason or another, showed much restraint in buying “anything” that has the KISS logo on it. One KISS kollectible that I did purchase back in the mid 1980’s was a comic book, from a comic book store that was quite messy and cold. I still have this cool comic book, (see the two pics below this post).

This KISS comic book was put out by Marvel Comics back in 1978. This comic book has 56 pages, a four page/pull out KISS poster and two pages dedicated to the making of the KISS movie – KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. A KISS interview is also included in these same pages, in regards to their making this movie. I remember when network television carried KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, it was on NBC, sometime around 1978. If my Metal memory serves me correctly, this movie was rather corn dog… still, it was KISS! I have not seen this KISS movie in probably 30 years now… quite a few years. I will most likely seek out this KISS movie on video or if it’s even on DVD? It would be a Metal hoot to just watch it again… for old times sake!

Going back to my KISS comic book… it is in excellent condition, not mint, yet that is still fine with me. I keep it in a protective plastic comic bag too, just to preserve it all the more.

Here is what the front cover of my KISS comic book from 1978 looks like:

Here is what the back cover of this same KISS comic book looks like:

This back cover advertises the four KISS solo albums from 1978!! The heading on this back cover ad could never be more true – A Milestone! Man, does this bring back some vintage KISS memories! Plus, 1978 was the year that my beloved New York Yankees beat down the hapless Boston Red Sox in a one-game playoff for the American League Eastern Division Title!! Another Milestone! That same legendary Yankees team went on to win the 1978 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers too!! Ahhh… the memories, the milestones, they are truly priceless.

1978… KISS… a KISS comic book… and Bucky Dent hitting a home run over the infamous Green Monster at the ever historic Fenway Park. It’s funny how one memory leads to another from a particular, remembered year.

LONG LIVE KISS!

LONG LIVE BUCKY DENT AND THE 1978 NEW YORK YANKEES TOO!
