GRAVEWITCH Unleashes New Music Video “Mistress of Hate” From Self-Titled Album Out Now

Extreme metal duo Gravewitch have released their brand-new music video “Mistress Hate,” a blistering visual companion to their self-titled album, which dropped this past June via Rock Sun Records. The release marks a defining moment for the band, showcasing their evolution from raw beginnings to a fully realised professional sound.

Watch “Mistress of Hate” https://youtu.be/ppa8bA5rk0A

Formed in 2013 by childhood friends Chris Fleming (guitar/vocals) and Andrew Ingraham (drums), Gravewitchwas born out of a shared passion for heavy music and a desire to carve their own path in the underground scene.

“We’ve been best friends since childhood and decided to create Gravewitch when we were sophomores in high school. This band has always been about pushing ourselves creatively and staying true to our vision,” says Fleming.

Fusing elements of Black Metal, Thrash, Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, and Cascadian Black Metal into a sound that is both punishing and atmospheric, Gravewitch is relentless, melodic, heavy, intriguing, and old-school.

Gravewitch’s self-titled album takes listeners on a dark and diverse journey through ten tracks, each with its own distinct theme and musical identity. From the haunting portrayal of early 1900s insane asylums in Damnable Evil to the personal nightmare of sleep paralysis in Phantasm, the band blends thrash, black, and melodic elements with precision.

Track Listing:
1. Damnable Evil (4:24)
2. Phantasm (4:21)
3. Mistress of Hate (4:13)
4. Ritual Reanimation (4:35)
5. Atmospheric Alterations (4:31)
6. White City Devil (4:00)
7. Woodland Trance (5:09)
8. Systematic Fallout (4:21)
9. Operation Overlord (5:27)
10. The Once Sacred Gift of Life (3:32)
Album Length: 44:38

Mistress of Hate revisits the brutality of witch trials, while Ritual Reanimation summons undead armies through thrash-driven intensity. Nature and atmosphere dominate Atmospheric Alterations, contrasting with the chilling true-crime narrative of White City Devilabout serial killer H.H. Holmes.

Woodland Trance evokes haunted forests with cascadian black metal textures, and Systematic Falloutdelivers pure thrash chaos alongside the band’s first-ever guitar solo. War themes emerge in Operation Overlord, immersing listeners in the chaos of D-Day, while The Once Sacred Gift of Lifecloses the album with grief, mortality, and the origins of Gravewitch’s sound. Together, the record showcases the duo’s ability to fuse extreme metal subgenres into a cohesive yet varied listening experience.

“Written during the chaos of 2020, our self-titled album reflects the uncertainty of the times. We had no idea if these songs were ever going to see the light of day. The chaotic energy of the world matched the diversity of the music, so we embraced different lyrical topics that had nothing to do with each other,” adds Fleming.

The new video “Mistress Hate”captures the raw energy and occult-inspired aesthetic that defines Gravewitch. Filmed in South Wales, United Kingdom by Ritual Video, the clip features the same actress who played “The Witch” in the band’s debut video “Circle of Power” from their first album The Summoning.

Stream ORM’s GULD HERE.

Danish black metal band ORM delivers their fourth album, GULD, out today through their long-running allies at Indisciplinarian.

With GULD, ORM marks another important step in their musical development, building on their characteristic epic and progressive approach to black metal, this time in a more direct and intensified format with five shorter and more concise compositions. Musically, GULD is ORM’s most focused and uncompromising album to date.

The five songs, which range from six to twelve minutes, are built around intense riff structures, relentless rhythmic shifts and complex melodies that weave in and out of each other like a musical kaleidoscope. The album moves between furious aggression, deep sorrow, and ominous calm, placing ORM in a field of tension between traditional black metal and progressive elements drawn from both death metal and classic metal.

Thematically, GULD explores modern humanity’s self-destructive cultivation of negative emotions; a vain and manipulated pursuit of perfection and recognition that leads to fear, isolation and downfall. The album uses frameworks inspired by folklore and fables to portray human vanity, envy and self-deception as universal forces that have haunted mankind’s stories throughout history. Gold becomes a symbol of both wealth and decay, an alluring but poisoned promise that can never be fulfilled without a heavy price.

Listen to ORM’s crushing GULD today on Bandcamp HERE and all other streaming services HERE.

GULD is out now in three vinyl formats – 500 on Black, 150 on Red Gold, and 150 on Bio White – a CD digipak of 200 copies, a cassette run of 100 copies, and digitally at the Indisciplinarian webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

GULD was produced by guitarist/vocalist Simon Sonne Andersen and ORM, mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Internal Bleeding, Vastum), and completed with artwork by Asger W. Krogh and photography by Lasse Høgh.

ORM was formed in 2015 and released its eponymous debut album in 2017, introducing the band’s melodic and ambitious approach to black metal.

ORM unites human synergy and analog craftsmanship – both in their music and in their visual expression, where collage artist Asger Krogh’s tactile artwork stands in contrast to today’s AI-driven aesthetics and emphasizes the album’s physical and organic undertone.

With GULDORM once again demonstrates their ability to combine extreme music with deep thematic layers and artistic ambition, cementing their position as one of Europe’s most visionary black metal bands.

NEMOROUS Announce New Album – What Remains When Hope Has Failed

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on October 15, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Full-length out November 21 on Bindrune Recordings

The wait for the full-length follow-up to the promising debut EP from England’s NEMOROUS is nearly over! Four years after the debut EP, the band has finally returned with a six-track atmospheric black metal experience titled What Remains When Hope Has Failed

Listen to the album teaser here.

Follow NEMOROUS on Spotify.

Bindrune Records will release What Remains When Hope Has Failed on CD, vinyl and digital formats on November 21.

Track-list:
1) The Wyrm at World’s End
2) This Rotten Bough
3) Sky Avalanche
4) Quiescence
5) Bereft Part 2
6) What Remains When Hope Has Failed

Formed from the ashes of Wodensthrone, NEMOROUS carry the torch of atmospheric English black influenced metal proudly, but it’s not the main driving force behind them. The vision is far more expansive and eclectic. With their debut self-titled EP, they have proven that the twisting melodies and fog-like aura they create with their sound indeed harkens back to their past musical conquests, yet progression is a core tenet as it walks hand in hand with rich melodies and a fierce sense of aggressive tradition.

NEMOROUS:
Phil Heckles – Bass
Ian Finley – Drums
Michael Blenkarn – Guitars
Alexandra Durning – Keyboards
Rob Hindmarsh – Guitars
Nick Craggs – Vocals

What Remains When Hope Has Failed is four years in the making and finds the band emerging victorious from a line-up change, where Chris Walsh (Vocals/Guitars) was replaced by Nick Craggs (Vocals – Vacivus/Neolithic) and Rob Hindmarsh on second guitar. Now as sextet, the band dove into the music for their first full-length reinvigorated, and it shows in the album’s composition.

What Remains When Hope Has Failed is a dynamic and emotional journey where quiet musical passages draw the listener in with vulnerability and beautiful, clean guitar arrangements that feel like Fields of the Nephilim at their most post-apocalyptic, only to build with reflective, melancholic mids, before exploding with blasting ferocity.

From subtle, yet expansive synth textures, complex drum work that never loses grasp on a powerful feel/swing, it all strengthens the overall impact of this album with colorful dynamics and a songwriting characteristic which can certainly be traced back to the early days of Wodensthrone.

THE NOCTAMBULANT  Unveil “Bring The Sorrow”, A Sinister Hymn From The Southern Void

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news, nu metal with tags , , , , , on October 11, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Drawing from the raw bloodlines of blues, rockabilly, goth rock, and American country, Florida’s dark torchbearers THE NOCTAMBULANT open the gates to the abyss with their new single “Bring The Sorrow.”

With this release, the band channels the haunted spirits of the South, where gospel hymns curdle into laments and salvation tastes of rust and whiskey. “Bring The Sorrow” is the first true blast of sound from a forthcoming chapter in THE NOCTAMBULANT’s evolution, a forceful wake-up call from the shadows of the American heartland.

The track begins with the metaphorical crack of a Bible slamming shut on a pulpit, signaling the end of blind faith and the beginning of reckoning. Its lyrics twist the familiar words of Psalm 91, a passage once meant to promise protection and peace, into something deeply corrupted.

Stream “Bring The Sorrow” Here: https://youtu.be/0kcD5C7wYro

In the world of “Bring The Sorrow,” faith offers no refuge, only torment. The song reimagines the sacred as profane, echoing through the backwoods of Appalachia and the swamps below, where every prayer is answered with silence.

“Bring The Sorrow” captures THE NOCTAMBULANT’s signature fusion of dark Americana and gothic metal, where howling guitars and funeral dirges collide. It is both a sermon and a curse, a lament for a world where redemption has lost its meaning.

About THE NOCTAMBULANT:
In 2013, THE NOCTAMBULANT formed in Jacksonville, Florida, with a mission to spread the culture of Southern Appalachia through their unique interpretation of black metal. Merging the genre’s primal aggression with the crushing weight of blackened death metal and the haunting atmospherics of Southern Gothic, they sought to honor the myths, spirits, and eerie folklore of the region.

Founded by E. Helvete (Guitars, Vocals) and D. Franseth (Drums) following the breakup of their psychobilly band, THE NOCTAMBULANT emerged as they delved into the darker realms of black metal. With the addition of Lars Goerschafft (Bass) and later Rev Beaumont (Guitar), the band fully embraced a sound that merges relentless intensity with ghostly Appalachian storytelling, crafting an auditory spell of sorrow, brutality, and mysticism.

Their music weaves a sonic tapestry of feral blackened riffs, ominous melodies, and immersive soundscapes steeped in spectral Appalachian lore. Drawing inspiration from metal legends such as VENOM, CELTIC FROST, BATHORY, and DARK FUNERAL, THE NOCTAMBULANT channels both ferocity and haunting atmosphere, merging the unrelenting force of extreme metal with the ghostly echoes of ancient myths and the desolation of the Southern Gothic landscape. Their next album is set to emerge in 2026.

About ELLENDE:
Ellende, founded multi-instrumentalist L.G. in Graz, Austria, began its journey with the debut EP Rückzug in die Innerlichkeit thirteen years ago. Originally conceived as an introverted, misanthropic, and anonymous project, Ellende has since grown into an internationally recognized live act with session musicians, firmly rooted in the atmospheric black metal genre.

While grounded in black metal, Ellendeʼs sound incorporates classical instrumentation such as strings and grand piano, often pushing beyond the boundaries of what is considered traditional within the style.

Over the years, Ellende has released six full-length albums and three EPs. They achieved four official chart positions (Austria: #14, #21; Germany: #31, #37) with recent full-lengths, while the band has performed more than 120 international shows and reached over two million Spotify streams in the past year.

The lyrical themes have evolved alongside the music. From early reflections on misanthropy, nature, and isolation to later explorations of human nature, social criticism, war, loss, despair, and dementia. The upcoming full-length album Zerfall portrays the state of being shattered into fragments and the slow, painful process of rebuilding oneself: a confrontation with the void and ultimately a triumph over it. Shaped also by a tragic event in the life of its mastermind, Ellendeʼs work continues to fuse raw intensity with profound emotional depth.

VESSELES Announces New Album: Home | Unveils Single “Scriptures Etched Into the Mind’s Pillars”

Listen to “Scriptures Etched Into the Mind’s PIlars” HERE: https://youtu.be/qcRnH6fi3yE

Symphonic black metal project VESSELES announces the release of its sophomore full-length album Home, arriving January 16th, alongside the unveiling of the record’s seventh track, “Scriptures Etched Into the Mind’s Pillars.”

“Scriptures Etched Into the Mind’s Pillars” is an ode to the grand tradition of classic symphonic black metal. It is a vehement composition that grapples with the inner fortresses we build to protect ourselves, only to find them transformed into prisons. As relentless as it is majestic, the song marks a lyrical turning point: moving away from searching for solace in one’s origins toward confronting the distress of internal struggle and the elusive quest for peace.

Founded as a personal vessel for Valira, a demon entity navigating existence within the human world, VESSELES fuses cinematic scale with blackened ferocity. Home expands upon the project’s identity-driven narrative, weaving a mythos of belonging, alienation, and ultimate reclamation of power. The album is as much about survival as it is about transcendence, an unflinching exploration of self through sound.

“Home is the sound of returning to a place you’ve never truly known,” says Valira.

With its blend of sweeping orchestration, blistering aggression, and emotional weight, Home establishes VESSELES as one of the most uncompromising voices in contemporary symphonic black metal.

  9. This Is Not Home

About VESSELES:
Founded in 2023, VESSELES is the sonic vessel through which Valira speaks the language of her origins. As composer, orchestrator, and architect, she crafts bleak, incantatory soundscapes that fuse serrated guitars with haunted symphonic textures. Her voice, at once seething and spectral, now rises with increasing clarity, layered across both backing and lead roles in studio and on stage.

This is not performance. It is possession. Through sound, she casts off the human shell and steps fully into her true form: demon, exile, survivor. VESSELES unveiled the debut EP I Am A Demon in 2024, a liturgy of identity dysphoria, rage, and revelation. “Eternally Within Us” follows the recently released 2025 single, “Flesh Throne”.

Valira Pietrangelo – guitar and backing vocals
J Burial (Joel Ferry) – vocals

Black Metal Trio WILD BEYOND Announce New EP: Black Sites In Lower Chambers

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on October 3, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Black Sites In Lower Chambers showcases WILD BEYOND‘s signature speed and frenzied riffs that evoke the frosty atmosphere of first and second waves of black metal. There is more to the band’s sound as WILD BEYOND‘s edges are sharpened with a chaotic, yet melodic, thrash attack. Vocalist/guitarist Edward Gonet spews venom-coated lyrics that explore the intersection of the occult with the military industrial complex, and other esoteric ephemera.

WILD BEYOND’s Black Sites In Lower Chambers is a predominantly self-recorded EP. The tracks were recorded in abyssal basements and smoky rehearsal rooms in order to capture the intensity of the band’s live performance on the EP.

The EP also concludes with a cover of DIMMU BORGIR’s “Spellbound (By The Devil),” with its pummeling drums and meticulous keyboards faithfully recreated by drummer Evan Madden and bassist Jimmy Viola.

Black Sites In Lower Chambers is set to be unveiled on October 17, 2025, via Fiadh Productions.

Black Sites In Lower Chambers – Track Listing:

  1. Dream State Abductions (instrumental)
  2. Slaughtering The Lion
  3. Thy Entrance, Night
  4. Visions Before The Seizure
  5. Spellbound (By The Devil)

About WILD BEYOND:
Philadelphia’s black metal trio WILD BEYOND explore vast atmospheres through black metal with the enhanced ferocity of thrash influences. WILD BEYOND‘s story begins with an impulse purchase of a Randy Rhoads Flying V guitar by Gonet (DEAVA, ex-INFERNAL STRONGHOLD), that kicked off a creative compulsion of songwriting in this dark, yet intense style.

Introduced a year later to Jimmy Viola and Evan Madden (ex-WOE and WOODS OF YPRES), the trio soon embarked on bringing Gonet’s demos to life. The result, was the 2023 debut album Wild Beyond, released via Cruz Del Sur/Gates Of Hell records. Black Sites In Lower Chambers follows the full-length in a blaze of ominous eccentricity.

WILD BEYOND:
Edward Gonet III: Vocals, guitars, lyrics

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on September 22, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Independent black metal visionaries PROFANE ELEGY have released their latest single, “As My Heart Turns to Ash,” today, accompanied by a haunting visualizer. The track is the latest cut from their highly anticipated sophomore album, Herezjarcha, due out January 30, 2026.

“As My Heart Turns to Ash” is a doom-laden lament that explores themes of emotional detachment, hardening one’s heart, and walking away from what cannot be saved. With its deliberate pacing, mournful melodies, and the introduction of ghostly clean vocal passages, the song marks one of the band’s most introspective and vulnerable moments to date.

Watch/listen: Profane Elegy – “As My Heart Turns to Ash” (Visualizer) here: https://youtu.be/LbqY7R2Ewpw

The single is the latest glimpse into Herezjarcha, an album that expands every dimension of PROFANE ELEGY’s sound. Following their acclaimed 2023 debut When All Is Nothing, which drew praise for its fusion of atmospheric black metal and doom-laden despair, the upcoming record promises to be heavier, more dynamic, and thematically deeper.

Herezjarcha Track Listing:

  1. “Exeunt Omnes” – 4:57
  2. “Haunted” – 3:31
  3. “The Accuser” – 5:23
  4. “As My Heart Turns to Ash” – 5:24
  5. “I AM” – 3:49
  6. “Immutable” – 4:13
  7. “And Then We Are Gone” – 4:02
  8. “Herezjarcha” – 5:57

Produced by J Gulick and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (Backroom Studios), Herezjarcha embodies the band’s commitment to vision over genre purity, weaving together black, doom, death, and progressive elements with orchestral textures and philosophical lyricism.

PROFANE ELEGY:

  • J Gulick – Guitars, Orchestration
  • David G – Bass, Orchestration

The gates of the dark kingdom have swung open, and the haunting has commenced once again. CEMETERY MOON has returned with a new album, a culmination of intensive composing, rehearsing, and performing its singular style of black metal art. Apparition’s vocals have coalesced into a ghostly voice of terror, while Langeloth joins the fray on “Smoke Trails at Vespers” to display his own call from the grave.

Likewise, the two guitarists attack the sonic landscape like two dragons, one baring its teeth in a ferocious growl, the other scorching the listener in waves of fire. Meanwhile, Astoroth’s bass lines quake the earth below, reinforced by the thunderstorm of Usurper’s merciless drumming.

The album displays the band’s ability to capture a variety of moods and motifs: from the soaring and heroic melodies on “Triumphant Spirit,” to the death metal-infused brutality of “Cultus Mortem.” Fans of pure, straightforward black metal will find much to praise on “Lunar Grave,” “House of Usher,” and “Boundless Heresy,” while fans of more progressive and unorthodox approaches have room to explore on “Temporal Bloodletting” and “The Wretched City.” Finally, there is the song that brings it all together, the band’s ultimate statement of purpose: “The Black Keep.”

Listen to “Boundless Heresy” on Bandcamp HERE: https://cemeterymoon.bandcamp.com/album/dominion-of-ashes

Track Listing:
1. The Wretched City
2. Boundless Heresy

About CEMETERY MOON
CEMETERY MOON began as a Connecticut based one-man project, dedicated to raw, blistering black metal. Over the ensuing years of stylistic development, CEMETERY MOON would expand into a fully formed band with a self-titled debut album in 2023.

The band’s live performances are known to overwhelm audiences with the sheer ferocity and musicianship on display, from Apparition’s scorching vocal delivery and his dual guitar riff barrage with Langeloth, to Astoroth and Usurper’s expert-level displays of rhythmic punishment. Now with a second full-length on the way, the band stands to continue its conquests and expand its dark kingdom’s borders ever further!

Finnr’s Cane Unveils Fourth Album: Self-Titled Debut With Nordvis Produktion

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on September 1, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

The mystic Canadians Finnr’s Cane return with their self-titled fourth album, a haunting and introspective journey through the frozen landscapes of the mind. Available now, the album marks their debut with renowned Swedish label Nordvis Produktion, and is a powerful continuation of their unique blend of atmospheric black metal, doom, and ambient music.

Hailing from the icy expanse of Sudbury, Ontario, Finnr’s Cane has always operated on the fringes, letting their music speak for itself. The band has forged a distinctive sound by forgoing a traditional bass in favor of the melancholic, resonant tones of a cello. This unconventional instrumentation, combined with an improvisational songwriting approach, creates an organic, almost ritualistic quality to their music.

Their new album, arriving just in time for the end of summer and rise of the autumn, delves deep into themes of nature, introspection, and the spiritual connection to the land. It is an album that unfolds slowly, building from somber acoustic passages to powerful, distorted crescendos. The cello remains a central pillar, providing a deep, mournful resonance that sets their sound apart.

For fans of Agalloch, Wolves in the Throne Room, and Fen. This record is a compelling exploration of liminal spaces and the sacred elements of the wilderness.

Finnr’s Cane is available worldwide on all major streaming platforms and Bandcamp now.

Physical Release Information:

  • Rest of the World: The physical release for non-European countries will follow on September 19th with the launch of a new official Nordvis store based in the United States. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Blackened Death Metal Icons MYSTIC CIRCLE Unleash Fierce Cover Version Of BATHORY’s “One Rode To Asa Bay” Taken Off Upcoming Kriegsgötter MMXXV Album | Due Out On June 6th via ROAR!

Posted in Black Metal, black metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on May 7, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

June 6, 2025 will see the German iconic black/death metal duo MYSTIC CIRCLE release an extended new edition of Kriegsgötter MMXXV via ROAR, featuring 8 tracks and furious cover versions of classics such as from BATHORY, CELTIC FROST, POSSESSED, ACHERON, or the previously-released, completely re-recorded cover version of IRON MAIDEN’s “Afraid To Shoot Strangers”.

On selected tracks, the band welcomes back British soprano Sarah Jezebel Deva on guest vocals, who has already made guest appearances with CRADLE OF FILTH, THE KOVENANT and THERION, among others. The track “Cry Little Sister” also features Karo Hafke, singer of the dark wave gothic band Umbra Et Imago.

Today, MYSTIC CIRCLE have unleashed a new single taken off Kriegsgötter MMXXV, their blistering cover version of the BATHORY classic “One Rode To Asa Bay“

Listen now on all digital streaming services at:

https://mysticcircle.rpm.link/ortabPR

“One Rode To Asa Bay” is a track from the fifth BATHORY album “Hammerheart”, which is a favourite of us two,” A. Blackwar reveals. “The band was a huge influence for us back then, but also today. You hear that in our early works and in general for our love of atmospheric parts. When Sarah heard the song in the studio, she went to the cabin and started to sing – which wasn’t planned at all. We looked at each other with a devilish smile in our face and said: that was the missing part! This song is pure epic!”

Let’s go back a quarter of a century to the year 2000: MYSTIC CIRCLE were at their peak at the time after the release of their third studio epic Infernal Satanic Verses and were rightly regarded as Germany’s leading black metal band.

In the summer after the turn of the millennium, the Ludwigshafen-based band followed up with the 5-track EP Kriegsgötter II, a compilation of cover versions and new recordings.

The founding line-up broke up during this phase and A. Blackwar left the band. Only his return in 2020 and the reunion with vocalist Beelzebub conjured up the spirit of that time again, resulting in the two great new records Mystic Circle (2022) and Erzdämon (2023), closing the infamous circle (or pentagram?) again.

“It was inevitable for me to end my time with MYSTIC CIRCLE with Kriegsgötter II. The long break was necessary, we lost the connection to each other back then, which is stronger than ever today,” summarizes A. Blackwar and looks back with a teary eye, but also with a smile, because as so often in life, everything happens for a reason.

Album Track-list:
01 – One Rode To Asa Bay (feat. Sarah Jezebel Deva)
02 – Die Götter der Urväter
03 – Azazel’s Soulfly
04 – Cry Little Sister (Theme from The Lost Boys, feat. Karo Hafke of Umbra Et Imago)
05 – Afraid To Shoot Strangers (feat. Sarah Jezebel Deva)
06 – Death Metal
07 – Acheron (Medley)
08 – Circle Of The Tyrants

MYSTIC CIRCLE is:
Beelzebub – Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
A. Blackwar – Drums, Guitars, Keyboards

USBM Horde, LENAX, Release “Throne of the Forsaken” From Upcoming Album: Infection

Nashville (TN) – U.S. Melodic Black Metal horde, Lenax, have unleashed “Throne of the Forsaken“, the third and final single from forthcoming full-length debut album, Infection. Click to stream below!

lenaxmetal.bandcamp.com/track/throne-of-the-forsaken

distrokid.com/hyperfollow/lenax/throne-of-the-forsaken

For fans of Watain, Immortal, and Enslaved, Lenax presents a style of melodic black metal infused with just the right amount of black n roll to land themselves in a rather unique position within the genre. “Throne of the Forsaken” tells a fantasy story of an ancient god-king who awakens back to flesh in order to return to the material world. No messiah, he returns with a heart thirsty for vengeance to bring the earth under his submission.

With lyrical themes based around esotericism, individuality, and cosmic horror, Infectionpaints either a picture of destruction and horror, or one of death and rebirth, depending on the stance of the listener. In all, this is a solid 40 minutes of modern black metal with enough DNA to show the band’s roots in the early second wave, while managing to craft something unique in their delivery.

From the Greek black metal bastion of Athens emerges ELEVENTH RAY, with lamentations that have lain in wait for the best part of a decade. The occult offerings within the unhallowed sleeve of Reviving Tehom invoke the spirit of Celtic Frost, Sodom, the ‘90s exploits of the great Magus Wampyr Daoloth (Necromantia, Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord), and of course, Therion’s 1993 Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas album.

The seeds for ELEVENTH RAY were sown by materials once artificed for the black metal force of Serpent Noir, whose changing tonality saw guitarist Y.K. bury said materials for a later purpose. A decision that first bore rotten fruit via a devastating rehearsal demo in 2022, which piqued the interest of Dark Descent Records.

ELEVENTH RAY is a totally new autonomous entity for which we plan to work with full force and NOT a one-off project of Serpent Noir leftovers,” exclaims Y.K. “As it happens with all my projects, ELEVENTH RAY is deeply rooted in Dark Magic and the Typhonian Alchemy.”

The practices of Magic and Alchemy are of critical importance to Y.K., and these elements at even keel with the music itself.

“Writing music for the sake of music is not enough. It is the expression of what lies hidden beyond the frames of what we call reality. The great Unknown emanated from the foremost symbol of power, the Red Dragon,” explains Y.K.

“What we were aiming to achieve was the creation of a purely black Magical death/thrash/black metal album without the lyrical satanic naivety of the past. Listening carefully to the album, you will realise that into this blend there is a striking ritualistic element with an ominous vibe and a heavy occult twist. Basically, Reviving Tehom is an album I would personally love to listen to, but I could not find anywhere.”

The common thread extends to the stunning artwork by L.G.N Nekropropaganda, depicting the aforesaid Great Red Dragon “as the orgasm of existence, the utmost symbol of hidden wisdom and forbidden knowledge which is also a tangible form of ecstatic energy. Lyrics deal with personal experiences related to the awakening/channelling of this tremendous force.”

ELEVENTH RAY:
D. Gharrassielh: Rhythm and lead guitars, chants
D. AanoNin: Vocals, chants
Peyote: Bass, additional lead guitars
Nuctemeron: Drums, percussion

Recorded by Haris V. at the Eleventh Tower Studio, a familiar collaborator of Y.K., the production perfectly complements this first wave hell-noise with a crushing old school sound. With full force!
