On This Day In METAL History – December 11th – And METAL Birthday Salutes To Nikki Sixx And Zacky Vengeance. Whoa!

On December 11th, 1982 – Billy Idol made his American Bandstand debut, where he performed his hits Hot in the City and White Wedding. Whoa, man! Above photo credit: American Bandstand.

On this day in 1987 – Comedy/Dark Comedy film Throw Momma From The Train was released to wide-screen theaters, via Orion Pictures. This film stars two of the funniest men of our time, with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal. Kim Greist and (the late) Anne Ramsey (as Momma) also star.

On December 11th, 1991 – The fantasy film Hook was released to wide-screen theaters, via TriStar. The legendary Steven Spielberg directed this holiday season box office smash, as it starred the great and late Robin Williams as Peter Banning and Peter Pan. Dustin Hoffman portrayed Captain Hook and Julia Roberts portrayed Tinker Bell. The screenplay for Hook was written by James Hart and Malia Marmo.

On this day in 1993 – Guns N’ Roses entered the Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #4 with their covers album “The Spaghetti Incident?”. This would mark their last album to feature original members Slash on guitar and Duff McKagan on bass.

On December 11th, 2007 – Avenged Sevenfold performed a concert at the Rainbow Ballroom in Fresno, California. A7X were touring is support of their self-titled and 4th studio album.

NIKKI SIXX

Born on December 11th, 1958 was Nikki Sixx. Happy birthday, Nikki! Whoa! Nikki Sixx, a native Californian, is world-famous as the bass guitarist, songwriter and co-founding member of the super legendary Mötley Crüe. With 9 studio albums, several live albums and countless touring since 1981, Mötley Crüe have influenced and amazed fans of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Mötley Crüe’s very successful farewell tour has taken place for the better part of 2014.

Nikki Sixx has also seen his Hard Rock band Sixx:A.M. skyrocket, with fellow members band members James Michael and DJ Ashba. Sixx:A.M. have released three studio albums since 2007, with all three albums charting world-wide. The newly released Sixx:A.M. studio album is: Modern Vintage. This new album has peaked at #20 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, during 2014.

Nikki Sixx also boasts his highly successful nationally syndicated radio show: Sixx Sense.

Other notable bands that Nikki Sixx is a former member of: Brides Of Destruction, London, Sister and 58. Metal be thy name!

ZACKY VENGEANCE

Zacky Vengeance was born on December 11th, 1981, in Olympia, Washington. Happy birthday, Zacky! Yeah! Zacky Vengeance is globally famous as the co-founding member and rhythm guitarist for the powerful Avenged Sevenfold. As a self-taught and left-handed guitarist, Zacky Vengeance is also a co-songwriter and backing vocalist for A7X.

A7X have recorded six studio albums and one live album since 2001 and I personally credit this band for keeping the flame of Heavy Metal burning strong, during the Millennium Decade. One of the first band’s that Zacky was a member of was Society Down; a Crust/Punk band. Another pre-A7X band Zacky was a member of was Mad Porno Action aka MPA.

SAXON – Postpones UK Tour Due To Sudden Illness Of Drummer Nigel Glocker

As reported on the Saxon (Official) Facebook:

Saxon regret to inform UK fans that the remaining tour dates have been postponed due to Nigel Glocker’s health issues. The drummer was rushed to the hospital on Monday night; more details will follow as soon as available.

Biff Byford says: “Devastating news that our friend and drummer Nigel has been taken ill. We have to postpone all shows until we find out more. He has been taken to hospital in Newcastle. All our thoughts are with Nigel and his family.”

Biff Byford later wrote: “Nigel our friend and brother is in the hospital in the UK having tests to find a bleed on his brain. He is up and talking but he says he has a ball crushing headache. I will pass all your messages on to Gina, Nigel’s wife and we all pray that Nige can pull through this! At the moment all shows have been re scheduled to 3/4/5/6/7 of February 2015” – Biff

The UK dates were due to be the culmination of 38-date European tour “Warriors of the Road” celebrating their 35th Anniversary. The set list featured tracks from what is known to the fans as ‘The Holy Trinity’ – Saxon’s seminal albums Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather.

The following shows are re-scheduled as follows: Tickets are valid for the new dates.

IRON MAIDEN – Infinite Dreams (Live) 12″ Vinyl From November 1989 – A Look Back On A Classic

This single (Infinite Dreams Live) reached #6 in the UK singles chart and was the band’s fourth Top 10 single from the Seventh Son album, the other positions being 3, 5 and 6. The video for this single was filmed at Birmingham NEC in November 1988 on the final leg of the Seventh Son Tour.

The full concert was also released the same month on longform vhs entitled Maiden England, and reissued for the first time on DVD in 2013. The b-side (Killers ’88) was the first official release of Killers being sung by Bruce.

Stone Says: I never owned this 12″ single of Infinite Dreams (Live), however, I did once own the (1989) die-cut picture disc of it! My late sister, Christine, had bought me the picture disc as a Christmas gift. God rest her soul. Sadly, I sold it about a dozen years ago or so, during a time when I was very broke and needed cash for necessities. This cool picture disc was an import from the UK. See photo below, as it is a very rare die-cut picture disc at that! As the late and great Frank Sinatra would sing… That’s Life.

On This Day In METAL History – December 10th…

On December 10th, 1983 – The incredible IRON MAIDEN performed a concert at Walter-Köbel-Halle in Rüsselsheim, Germany. IRON MAIDEN were on their World Piece Tour supporting their fourth studio album: Piece Of Mind.

On this day in 1983 – Ozzy Osbourne hits #24 in the United Kingdom with his third solo studio album: Bark at the Moon. This was the first Ozzy Osbourne album to feature guitarist Jake E. Lee. Sadly, this is Ozzy Osbourne’s first album without the great Randy Rhoads, due to his tragic death in 1982.

On December 10, 1988 – The Sammy Hagar fronted Van Halen hits #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with Finish What Ya Started. This hit is featured on Van Halen’s eighth studio album from 1988: OU812. This studio album was the second to feature Sammy Hager, following 5150 from 1986. Pictured above is the CD single cover sleeve for Finish What Ya Started.

On this day in 1993 – The comedy film Wayne’s World 2, the sequel to 1992’s box office smash Wayne’s World, was released to the wide-screen theaters. Mike Myers portrays Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey portrays Garth Algar. Both the Wayne and Garth characters were originated and portrayed on Saturday Night Live.

Both hilarious actors are surrounded by a cast which includes: Christopher Walken, Tia Carrere, Kim Basinger, Chris Farley and Kevin Pollack, among others.

Cameos abound in this film, with the likes of: Aerosmith, Heather Locklear, Jay Leno and Rip Taylor, among other famous notables. Wayne’s World 2, as its predecessor is… Metal.

On December 10th, 2007 – The iconic Led Zeppelin performed their first concert in 19 years at London’s O2 Arena.  Jason Bonham was the drummer, filling for his father, the late John Bonham. One million (plus) fans applied for a chance at the 9,000 pairs of tickets.

On December 9th, 1967 – Disraeli Gears, the second studio album from the legendary Cream enters the U.S. charts. This album would eventually hit #1 in the United States. Rest in peace, Jack Bruce.

On this day in 1983 – The Horror film Christine was released to wide-screen theaters. The screenplay for Christine was written by Bill Phillips and directed by the great John Carpenter. The cast included: Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul and Harry Dean Stanton. Bad to the Bone from George Thorogood and The Destroyers was one of many songs used during the film. Christine is… Metal.

On December 9th, 1988 – The comedy film Twins was released to wide-screen theaters, via Universal. The all-star cast included: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Kelly Preston and Chloe Webb. Twins was directed by Ivan Reitman. Twins is… Metal.

On this day in 2011 – Motörhead performs a concert at Lisebergshallen in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was one of many stops on Motörhead’s The Wörld is Yours Tour. Long live the grand Motörhead.

On December 9th, 1991 – Guns N’ Roses made their debut at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in the first of a three night sold-out stand. Guns N’ Roses drew over 54,000 fans and grossed over $1.3 million (U.S. dollars). That’s a lot of pizza and root beer money.

On this day in 2011 – The great ICED EARTH perform a concert at Eventhalle in Geiselwind, Germany. This performance from ICED EARTH was part of the Christmas Metal Festival 2011 and on the band’s World Dystopia Tour 2011-2012.

On December 9th, 2014 – The mighty Machine Head perform a concert at Guildhall in Portsmouth, England. Machine Head are touring in support of their new studio album: Bloodstone & Diamonds. Metal be thy name.

DORO “All We Are: The Fight” EP Is – Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

DORO All We Are: The Fight EP was released back on May 25th, 2007, via AFM Records. This tidy EP of five songs are Heavy Metal bliss to my ears and Doro Pesch is (as always) alluring on vocals. I was in the Metal mood today for DORO and this EP I listened to multiple times to satisfy my Metal spirit. I purchased this DORO EP on iTunes a few years ago and would love to eventually get my hands on the physical CD as well. You just cannot take the old school out of me, praise the Metal Gods for that.

I’m not certain if this EP was ever released on vinyl; if so, I would want the vinyl version! Whoa. The re-recording of DORO’s Heavy Metal anthem All We Are is the opener and never ceases to give me those always welcomed Metal chills. Oh, sweet molasses, yeah. All We Are was originally released on the 1987 Warlock studio album: Triumph And Agony. That said album was the fourth and final release from the great Warlock.

Thunderspell is an outright jewel of a song; it is a Heavy Metal accomplishment in my Metal opinion and Doro Pesch is untouchable singing it. Her band is nothing short of excellent (of course) on this EP, musically lifting the powerful vocals of Doro Pesch into the Heavy Metal stratosphere! The one ballad on this EP is Everything’s Lost and it’s moving and emotionally driven, courtesy of Doro’s vocals, inspirational guitar solo and intermittent piano notes.

On My Own is a duet featuring Doro Pesch and the great Marc Storace of KROKUS fame. Call it a power ballad that Rocks my face off. ‘Nuff said. The one cover song is Babe I’m Gonna Leave You, originally recorded as a Folk song by Anne Bredon in the late 1950’s.The legendary Joan Baez later covered this song in 1963 and the iconic Led Zeppelin turned it into a classic on their 1969 debut and self-titled album. Doro Pesch makes this song her own, please excuse the cliché. Seriously, I love the way Doro Pesch approached this Rock classic, nothing is watered down and the emotion of the song remains exactly intact. Yes, it Rocks.

This EP has (the near hidden) subtitle: A Tribute to Regina Halmich. The version of the re-recorded title track All We Are was originally performed March 30th, 2006 on television in Germany, as the pump-you-up entrance song for Doro’s close friend, German boxing champion Regina Halmich. Great stuff and Metal be thy name. – Stone

On This Day In METAL History – December 7th…

On December 7th, 1969 – The iconic Led Zeppelin have a hit on the Top Forty of Billboards Hot 100 Singles Chart, with Whole Lotta Love and it eventually reaches #4. This would be Led Zeppelin’s first hit single in the United States. Whole Lotta Love is featured on Led Zeppelin’s second studio album: Led Zeppelin II.

On this day in 1976 – Boston performs at the Hara Arena, in Dayton, Ohio. Whoa!

On December 7th, 1984 – Agent Provocateur, the fifth studio album from Foreigner, was released. This album went on to reach #4 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, selling three million copies (plus) in the United States.

On this day in 1985 – Heart hits #4 with Never. This song is featured on Heart’s eighth studio album: Heart. Whoa, again!

On December 7th, 1985 – RUSH performed live at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. Long live RUSH.

On this day in 1990 – The Fantasy/Drama/Dark Comedy film Edward Scissorhands was released to theaters on the wide-screen. Starring the legendary Johnny Depp and directed by the great Tim Burton, the star-studded cast included: Winona Ryder, Vincent Price, Kathy Baker, Alan Arkin, Dianne Wiest and Anthony Michael Hall. This movie is, without a doubt Metal. Rest in peace, Vincent Price.

On December 7th, 1993 – Guns N’ Roses announced that their cover of Charles Manson’s Look at Your Game, Girl will remain on their covers album The Spaghetti Incident?, despite protests. It was also announced that royalties will go to the son of a Manson family victim. In my honest Metal opinion, this song (if you can call it that) super sucks so incredibly bad that it stinks of putrid donkey poop. Did I mention this song is lousy?

On this day in 2012 – The mighty Motörhead perform live at Bernexpo Halle 4, in Berne, Switzerland for the Metal Christmas Festival. This was a date on Motörhead’s The Wörld is Yours Tour. Long live Motörhead.

On This Day In METAL History – December 5th… From Slade To Helloween

On December 5th, 1970 – Badfinger peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit No Matter What. This was Badfinger’s second top ten single in the United States; their first top ten single in the U.S. was Come And Get It. Def Leppard went on to cover No Matter What, back in 2005 for their release: Rock Of Ages: The Definitive Collection. Whoa!

On this day in 1973 – Slade reaches #1 in the UK with Merry Christmas Everybody. It will remain at #1 for five weeks, becoming Slade’s biggest single, while returning to the charts in later years. This song also became Slade’s sixth #1 single in the UK, as well.

On December 5th, 1984 – Beverly Hills Cop, the hilarious Action/Comedy film, starring the great Eddie Murphy was released on wide-screens. Beverly Hills Cop also starred: Damon Wayans, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton.

On this day in 1986 – Heartbreak Ridge, a War movie starring the great Clint Eastwood was released on wide-screens. Clint Eastwood plays the role of the rugged and battlefield trained Sergeant Tom Highway, as he embarks on his final tour of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. I won’t give away any more about this movie, trust me when I tell you it’s a classic and a must see!

On December 5th, 1987 – The legendary RUSH performed a concert at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. RUSH were finally inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. Metal Amen to that!

On this day in 1990 – Poison and Warrant performed live at the Riverfront Coliseum, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Metal be thy name! Rest in peace, Jani Lane.

On December 5th, 2013 – The great Helloween performed live at La Trastienda Club, Montevideo, Uruguay. This stop was part of Helloween’s Hellish Rock – Part II Tour. Helloween were touring in support of their fourteenth studio album: Straight Out Of Hell; which was released in January of 2013. Whoa and yeah!! I want out!!

On This Day In METAL History – December 4th…

On December 4th, 1970 – T. Rex releases T. Rex which hits #13 in the UK. T. Rex would eventually metamorphosis into a Glam Rock pioneering band. Rest in peace, Marc Bolan.

On this day in 1975 – KISS achieved their first Gold Record as Alive! was certified Gold by the RIAA. Whoa.

On December 4th, 1976 – Former Deep Purple, Zephyr and James Gang lead guitarist Tommy Bolin dies in Miami, Florida, of a drug overdose. The legendary Tommy Bolin was also in the height of a successful solo career, upon his death. Pictured above is the cover for Tommy Bolin’s second studio album, released in 1976: Tommy Bolin – Private Eyes. Rest in peace, Tommy Bolin.

On this day in 1976 – KISS peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit ballad: Beth. Co-written and sung by drummer Peter Criss, Beth was the first top ten single in the United States for KISS. Backed by only a string orchestra and piano, Peter Criss did not have to use his drums.

On December 4th, 1977 – The iconic QUEEN performed a concert at the University Of Dayton Arena. Man, I wish I there… Metal be thy name! Rest in peace, Freddie Mercury.

On this day in 1980 – In the aftermath of drummer John Bonham passing away, Led Zeppelin releases a statement announcing that they are disbanding. Rest in peace, John Bonham.

On December 4th, 1991 – The fantasy/drama film KAFKA was playing on the wide-screen in theaters. KAFKA stars: Jeremy Irons, Theresa Russell, Joel Grey, Ian Holm and Sir Alec Guinness.

On this day in 1991 – Van Halen performed a free concert at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas to make up for a 1988 concert in Dallas. The 1988 concert saw Sammy Hagar lose his voice halfway through their set.

CREAM -1966 – 1972 (6 LP box set) Releases On December 15th, Via UMe

Universal Music Enterprises is proud to present Cream: 1966 1972, which brings together this epic band’s six, career-spanning studio and live albums together in a vinyl box set for the very first time. Each LP retains authenticity with original artwork and will be pressed on 180 gram, heavyweight audiophile vinyl. All are housed in a structured slipcase box.

This British rock supergroup was formed in 1966 and their sound was characterized by a hybrid of blues rock, hard rock and burgeoning psychedelic rock as performed by Eric Clapton’s innovative blues guitar, Jack Bruce’s operatic voice and fluid bass playing, and Ginger Baker’s jazz-influenced drumming. Cream soon evolved further, creating a trademark approach built around each musician’s virtuoso playing. The band’s imaginative lyrics were often written by poet Pete Brown.

On This Day In METAL History – December 3rd…

On December 3rd, 1978 – Aerosmith performed a concert at the Springfield Civic Center, in Springfield, Massachusetts. 1978 was a year where Aerosmith were touring between two studio albums: 1977’s Draw The Line and 1979’s Night In The Ruts.

On this day in 1979 – Eleven fans of The Who were trampled to death during a stampede, to claim general admission seats for the band’s concert at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati. The Who were touring in support of their 1978 studio album: Who Are You. May these eleven fans of The Who rest in peace.

On December 3rd, 1980 – KISS performed their last concert with co-founding member/original guitarist Ace Frehley at Western Springs Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. “Space Ace” reunited with KISS once again for their 1996 reunion tour.

On this day in 2002 – Guns ‘N Roses performed a concert at the Hartford Civic Center, in Hartford, Connecticut. Whoa!

On December 3rd, 2010 – The Warrior’s Way is released on wide-screen. This Action/Fantasy/Western film stars: Kate Bosworth, Geoffrey Rush, Danny Huston, Tony Cox and Jang Dong-gun. The Warriors Way was written and directed by Sngmoo Lee.

OZZY OSBOURNE

On December 3rd, 1948, Ozzy Osbourne was born. Happy Metal Birthday, Ozzy! Hell, whoa! Ozzy Osbourne (in case you didn’t know) is a co-founding member, vocalist and songwriter for the iconic Black Sabbath. Ozzy’s solo career is stuff of legend as well, with eleven studio albums to his credit; that’s more studio albums than Black Sabbath has recorded with Ozzy as vocalist (which is eight).

The original Black Sabbath lineup of Ozzy, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006.

Before Ozzy Osbourne went solo with his name alone, his band was originally named: Blizzard Of Ozz. The legendary lineup included: Ozzy, Randy Rhoads on guitar, Bob Daisley on bass and Lee Kerslake on drums and Don Airey on keyboards. Rest in peace, Randy Rhoads.

A ton can be said about the longevity, milestones and success of Ozzy Osbourne. Two things that can never be disputed are Ozzy’s dedication to Heavy Metal and being a tried and true ambassador for the genre, spanning five decades. Metal be thy name and long live Ozzy Osbourne!

On December 2nd, 1976 – KISS performed a concert at the Mid-South Coliseum, in Memphis, Tennessee. KISS had released two studio albums, via Casablanca Records, back in 1976, with Destroyer and Rock And Roll Over, respectively. Whoa!

On this day in 1979 – The legendary Judas Priest performed a concert at Hemmerleinhalle in Neunkirchen am Brand, Germany. This was one of many, many dates on Judas Priests’ Killing Machine/Hell Bent For Leather Tour.

On December 2nd, 1979 – The Styx power ballad, Babe, was a big hit on FM radio. This song is featured on the ninth studio album from Styx, released in 1979: Cornerstone. Tommy Shaw plays lead guitar and Dennis DeYoung is the lead vocalist on Babe.

On this day in 1982 – Def Leppard filmed the music video for their smash hit, Photograph, in Battersea, London. This video was the video debut of guitarist Phil Collen. The song Photograph is featured on the third studio album from Def Leppard: Pyromania.

On December 2nd, 1982 – Van Halen performed a concert at the Mid-South Coliseum, in Memphis, Tennessee. Van Halen were touring in support of their fifth studio album: Diver Down.

On this day in 1989 – Great White hits #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit: The Angel Song. This song is featured on the fourth studio album from Great White, released in 1989: …Twice Shy.

On December 2nd, 1991 – Van Halen performed a concert at the Pyramid Arena, in Memphis, Tennessee. Van Halen were on tour supporting their ninth studio album: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. This album (aka) F.U.C.K. was released in June of 1991.

On this day in 2003 – Alice Cooper was awarded a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Metal be thy name!

On December 2nd, 1960, Rick Savage was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Rick! Whoa, yeah! Rick Savage is famously known as the bassist and co-founding member for the legendary Def Leppard. Rick Savage is also a multi-instrumentalist, backing vocalist and songwriter for Def Leppard. Long live Rick Savage and Def Leppard! Whoa.

JEFF BECK Announces 2015 Solo Tour Dates; New Studio Album in the Works

Rescheduled ZZ Top Dates Also Confirmed

(Los Angeles) It was announced today, Jeff Beck will headline a string of solo dates, beginning April 16^th with a pair of intimate engagements in Huntington, New York before wrapping up on April 26^th in Greensburg, PA. Beginning April 30^th in Cedar Park, TX, Beck and ZZ Top will make-up the rescheduled dates from this past September when the hugely successful double-bill tour was cut short due to an unfortunate injury to ZZ Top bassist, Dusty Hill.

“We’re so glad that Dusty made a full recovery and now, we are looking forward to getting back out there and finish what we started,” stated Beck.

Beck’s career took off in the mid-1960s, after replacing Eric Clapton as lead guitarist for The Yardbirds on the recommendation of his friend Jimmy Page. He played on several of the rock group’s hits, such as “Heart Full of Soul,” “Shapes of Things” and “Over Under Sideways Down.” Over the years, Beck has collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Roger Waters, Les Paul, Jon Bon Jovi, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock and Joss Stone among many others.

Beck has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once with The Yardbirds in 1992 and once as a solo artist in 2009. He has won numerous Grammy Awards, including two at the 2011 Grammy Award Celebration when he won Best Rock Instrumental Performance for “Hammerhead” and Best Pop Instrumental performance for “Nessun Dorma”, both from his last studio album, Emotion & Commotion.

Recently, in London, Beck participated in The Poppy Appeal song “No Man’s Land”, a tribute to the men and women that served in World War I, resulting in 4 performances, culminating in the NFL pre-game entertainment that was broadcast from Wembley Stadium. The song featured singer Joss Stone on vocals and a gospel choir with vocals arranged by Antonia Wilson. In the meantime, a DVD of Beck’s Tokyo concert from April of this year was released on November 25th. For Beck, 2015 looks to be a banner year. In addition to both solo and co-headlining dates with ZZ Top, Beck will complete work on his new studio album, expected next year.

Joining Beck on both the solo and double-bill tour are his band – Jimmy Hall on Vocals, Rhonda Smith on bass, Jonathan Joseph on drums and Nicolas Meier on guitar.

This comedy/family classic has since become a mainstay in the lineup of holiday movie cable television reruns, purchases and rentals, proving its timeless ability to tickle the Metal funny bone. On December 1st, 1944, John Densmore was born in California. Happy Rockin’ birthday, John! Man, whoa! John Densmore is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who is most famously known as a co-founding member and drummer for The Doors. Legends anyone? The Doors were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, back in 1993. ‘Nuff said.

With a heavy heart and a lot of tears we say goodbye to our friend, our brother and co-founder of Brand New Machine, Jon Ster. He was the wittiest, tender hearted and one of the most talented guys I have ever met. His laugh was infectious and he would light up a room just by walking in. The world was a much better place with Jon in it and he left us a legacy of great music, a beautiful daughter and tons of amazing memories. I’m going to miss you and your famous one liners my friend. Thank you for being a part of my life. Rest well, I love you brother.

On November 29th, 1975 – KISS hits #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the United States with their hit Rock And Roll Nite. This iconic song is featured on the third studio album from KISS, released in 1975: Dressed To Kill.

On this day in 1975 – Bohemian Rhapsody by the legendary Queen began a nine week run at #1 on the UK Singles Chart. This fabulous song is featured on the fourth studio album from Queen, released in 1975: A Night At The Opera.

On November 29th, 1982 – Metallica performed their first headlining concert in San Francisco. The opening act was Exodus, which featured future Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett. The following April of 1983, Kirk Hammett joined Metallica after the dismissal of Dave Mustaine, who later went on to form the ferocious Megadeth. Thrash Metal legends, all.

On this day in 1986 – Iron Maiden performed live at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France. This was one of many gigs that Iron Maiden played on their Somewhere On Tour, in support of their sixth studio album: Somewhere In Time. On November 29th, 2012 – In celebration of their 30th Anniversary, TNT performed live in North Wales, UK, at the Hard Rock Hell Festival. Originating from Norway, TNT currently boasts the dynamite lineup of: Tony Harnell on vocals, Ronni Le Tekro on guitar, Victor Borge on bass and Diesel Dahl on drums.

On this day in 2012 – The fearsome VADER performed live at Klub Ucho in Gdynia, Poland. Death Metal legends = VADER.

On November 29th, 1951, Barry Goudreau was born. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Barry! Famously known as a former guitarist and founding member for Hard Rock legends Boston, Barry Goudreau was also a founding member and played guitar for Orion The Hunter (1984) and RTZ, with the late Brad Delp.

Barry Goudreau also recorded a self-titled studio album with (the late) Brad Delp: Delp And Goudreau. The two also recorded and released a hit single together, in 2007: Rockin’ Away. On This Day In METAL History – November 28th – From The Kinks To GWAR

On November 28th, 1964 – The Kinks peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit You Really Got Me. This song was the first top ten single, from The Kinks in the United States.

On this day in 1970 – The Who hits #12 in the United States with their hit See Me, Feel Me from their 1969 studio double album: Tommy. See Me, Feel Me was not a track in itself on the original Tommy album; rather this song is included as the latter half of the album’s closer: We’re not Gonna Take It.

On November 28th, 1979 – Iron Maiden signed with EMI Records. Earlier in the month, Iron Maiden had recorded two songs for the compilation album Metal For Muthas, which was also released by EMI Records.

On this day in 1981 – Foreigner hits #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with Waiting For A Girl Like You. This power ballad is featured on the fourth studio album from Foreigner, aptly titled: 4.

On November 28th, 2005 – During a Pearl Jam concert at the Gigantinho Gymnasium in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Ramones drummer Marky Ramone joined them onstage for a rendition of The Ramones’ I Believe in Miracles.

On this day in 2014 – The mighty Cannibal Corpse perform a concert at Z7 Konzertfabrik, Pratteln, Switzerland. Cannibal Corpse are touring in support of their 13th studio album: A Skeletal Domain. This album was released in 2014 via Metal Blade Records.

On November 28th, 2014 – In This Moment perform a concert at Myth in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The band is on tour supporting their 5th studio album: Black Widow. This new album was released this month, via Atlantic Records. Black Widow debuted impressively, at #8 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, for the week ending December 6th.

On this day in 2014 – The powerful GWAR perform a concert at Tremont Music Hall, in Charlotte, North Carolina, on their Eternal Tour 2014. Corrosion Of Conformity and American Sharks are the supporting bands. Metal be thy name!

PAUL SHAFFER

On November 28th, 1949, Paul Shaffer was born in Canada. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Paul! Yeah! Paul Shaffer has been David Letterman’s musical director, bandleader and sidekick for over 30 years, earning his spot in Late Show history with “The World’s Most Dangerous Band”. Paul Shaffer was also a member of Saturday Night Live’s house band, during the pioneering era for this show, from 1975 until 1980. This dynamic performer played the memorable synthesizer solo on Scandal’s 1982 hit single: Goodbye To You.

Paul Shaffer played piano and keyboards on 1984’s The Honeydrippers: Volume One, a hit chart album which featured Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Nile Rodgers. On Joe Walsh’s ninth studio album from 1991, Ordinary Average Guy, Paul Shaffer plays both piano and keyboards. In 1995, Paul Shaffer appeared/played keyboards in Blues Traveler’s music video for the song Hook.

During 1998, Paul Shaffer was featured on the hit game show: Hollywood Squares. In 2010, Shaffer appeared with Bachman & Turner at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. His appearance was included on the live Bachman & Turner album which was recorded on that date. On October 6th, 2009, Paul Shaffer’s autobiography We’ll Be Here For the Rest of Our Lives: A Swingin’ Show-biz Saga was released. (See top photo). An incredibly impressive resume has Paul Shaffer achieved; there’s simply not enough space here to list it all! Metal be thy name!

MATT CAMERON

On November 28th, 1962, Matt Cameron was born in California. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Matt! Whoa! Matt Cameron is famously known as being a drummer for both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. Back in 1990, Matt was joined up with the supergroup: Temple Of The Dog and was also a drummer and songwriter for the mid 80’s Grunge band: Skin Yard.

On This Day In METAL History – November 27th – From Jimi Hendrix To Ozzy Osbourne

On November 27th, 1970 – Black Sabbath performed live at The Sunshine In in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Opening for Black Sabbath was the band Steel Mill, which featured New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen. Future E Street Band members, Vini Lopez, Danny Federici and Steve Van Zandt were also members of Steel Mill. Cactus was also another opening act on this same bill. Shown above is an original ticket stub for this (now) Rock historical concert.

On November 27th, 1982 – Ozzy Osbourne hits #21 in the UK with his double live album: Talk of the Devil. This memorable Ozzy Osbourne album was titled Talk of the Devil due to it being the more commonly expressed idiom there. In the USA and elsewhere, this release was titled: Speak Of The Devil. The band lineup for this album was: Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, Brad Gillis on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums.

JIMI HENDRIX

On November 27th, 1942, Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington, USA. Positively one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived, Jimi Hendrix rose to enormous fame quickly, with his band: The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Three highly influential studio albums were released by The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Are You Experienced (1967), Axis: Bold As Love (1967) and Electric Ladyland (1968). Dozens of Jimi Hendrix albums have been released since, ranging from live albums to remastered original works, demos and outtakes.

On August 18th, 1969, Jimi Hendrix played The Star Spangled Banner at the legendary Woodstock Music And Art Fair in White Lake, New York. This live performance from Jimi Hendrix eventually became an iconic moment, in the history of Rock Music. I personally consider Jimi Hendrix to be a pioneer of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.

Jimi Hendrix enlisted in the United States Army on May 31st, 1961 and received an honorable discharge on June 29th, 1962. Jimi Hendrix passed away on September 18th, 1970, at the very young age of 27. The music Jimi Hendrix left behind, in such a short time, I find it nothing short of miraculous. Generations of Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal fans are forever enjoying the music of Jimi Hendrix. Generations of guitarists have been positively influenced by Jimi Hendrix. An icon and true original was and forever will be Jimi Hendrix. May Jimi Hendrix rest in peace. – Stone
