Finnish melodic death/folk metal band Warfarer have released the instrumental version of their debut concept album A Tale Beyond the Pale, which was released at the end of 2024 via Inverse Records.

LISTEN to the instrumental version of the album: https://push.fm/fl/warfarer-instrumental

The band comments:

“We’ve always been fans of instrumental releases and knew we wanted to do the same with our debut album. Some aficionados prefer music without vocals, while others might want to create their own karaoke versions.

Back when our singer Kalle was learning to sing, he struggled to find quality instrumental metal tracks to practice with. It was frustrating how rare they were. We wanted to change that. By releasing this instrumental edition, we hope to give aspiring vocalists the chance to sing along with their favorite tracks. We also encourage other bands to do the same and make it easier for the next generation of metal singers.

Meanwhile, pre-production for our next EP is nearing completion. This new release will delve deeper into the events and experiences that have shaped our Northern stories. Rousing choruses guaranteed!”

BIOGRAPHY:

Born from the frost of Northern Finland in 2013, Warfarer weaves chilling tales of small people’s great struggles amidst ancient myths. Their ferocious blend of melodic death metal and symphonic elements bites like the freezing wind and grips you like the flu.

After releasing an EP in 2017 and undergoing a complete reincarnation with new singles in 2018 and 2020, the band is more alive than ever, preparing for war with brutal new songs and sharpened axes. Their concept album, ‘A Tale Beyond the Pale’, released in November 2024, delves into the Finnish myth of the Brotherslayer, taking listeners on a journey through jealousy, scheming, Viking raids, duels under the Northern Lights, and an eventual descent into guilt and madness.

Inverted World Album Artwork

LEAD SINGLE ‘AMPUTATE’ SET FOR RELEASE
ON MARCH 14th WITH NEW VIDEO

For over 35 years UK death metal legends Cancer have been delivering some of the most brutal and uncompromising music in the genre. Now, they return with Inverted World, their highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s Shadow Gripped. Set for release on April 25th via Peaceville Records, the album promises a return to their signature blend of serrated riffing, guttural vocals, and relentless aggression. Expect a dark and visceral journey into dystopia, corruption, and existential horror.

Speaking on the upcoming release, founding member and vocalist John Walker shared “I started writing the new material shortly after the Covid lockdowns. I nearly always usually start the writing process by basically fooling around on the guitar, then after a while riffs start to turn into musical ideas. The lyrics, I tend to spend some time thinking about a concept and then I pick the vocabulary appropriate to the idea. Inspiration comes from what’s happening and what has happened in the world and curious tales that interest me. This album is the bands seventh full length release and I feel very fortunate at my age to still be able to do it, mixed by V. Santura I’m super happy with how it’s turned out.”

INVERTED WORLD WILL BE RELEASED ON LIMITED PURPLE VINYL, BLACK VINYL, CD AND DIGITALLY. VINYL EDITIONS INCLUDE PRINTED INNER SLEEVE FEATURING FULL LYRICS, CD EDITION INCLUDES 12-PAGE BOOKLET WITH FULL LYRICS. PRE-ORDER HERE.

Death metal titans Cancer burst onto the UK extreme metal scene over thirty-five years ago and quickly established a strong global following over the early part of their careers, primarily due to the release of the legendary debut To the Gory End, swiftly followed by the equally revered Death Shall Rise album, which notably also featured death metal maestro James Murphy on lead guitars. The band’s trajectory increased further with follow-up opus The Sins of Mankind, leading to a stint with major label EastWest under Warner Music.

2018 saw the band return after a long period of inactivity for comeback release and Peaceville debut Shadow Gripped, which reunited the original core trio for the first time since 1995 for a stellar nod to the glory days of old; savage, thrash-tinged deathly odes to the macabre, gaining the approval of old fans and a new generation of death metal maniacs alike.

In a year which also marks the 35th anniversary of the genre-classic debut, To the Gory End, founding member and vocalist/guitarist/songwriter John Walker leads a now-revamped quartet for Cancer’s seventh full-length album in the form of Inverted World. A relentless attack of masterful song-writing and brutal hooks, Inverted World explores the dark and murky world of manipulation and barbarity both past and present, with themes relating to shadowy entities and cult mentalities, including the brainwashing of people into compliance and the weaponizing of religion. And as an extra treat for the band’s fanbase in particular, the track ‘Corrosive’ also resurrects the old and familiar tale of the acid bath murderer.

Inverted World was recorded at The Empty Hall Studio with Simón Da Silva, and mixed by V. Santura (Triptykon, Obscura, Pestilence, Dark Fortress etc) at Woodshed Studio.

Under A Dying Sky” is the latest single from British death metal collective, AS THE WORLD DIES. The track comes by way of the band’s upcoming second studio album, Nebula, set for release on March 21st via Reaper Entertainment.

The track is a brutal yet thought-provoking journey, blending relentless death metal aggression with atmospheric synths and progressive elements.

Band leader Scott Fairfax (Memoriam, ex-Massacre) comments, “‘Under A Dying Sky’ is a defining moment for us. It captures the essence of what AS THE WORLD DIES is all about – an intense, cinematic experience wrapped in brutal, crushing death metal. We wanted to push the limits even further, and this track is just a taste of what’s coming with Nebula.”

Dusktone is proud to announce the forthcoming release of The Obscure Light Awaits, the second full-length album by Italian death metal visionaries SONUM.

Mark your calendars for 11th April 2025, as the band returns to the forefront of death metal with a record that masterfully balances abstraction and ferocity.

The band’s ability to merge atmospheric depth with crushing riffs showcases their commitment to creating music that is both immersive and uncompromising. It’s an exploration of contrasts – between the abstract and the visceral, the chaotic and the structured.

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on February 10, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Italian death metallers SUDDEN DEATH have signed to Time To Kill Records for the release of their fourth album, In Sinner Hate.

Their most blisteringly furious, ambitious, and eclectic record to date, In Sinner Hate delivers eleven tracks of brutal death metal mixed with elements of old-school heaviness.

The album was mixed and mastered by Stefano “Saul” Morabito (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance, Hideous Divinity), with additional recordings by Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Shores Of Null) and Giuseppe Orlando (Novembre, Stormlord).

Watch for more details on the new album release, new tour updates, and more news on other upcoming SUDDEN DEATH activities to be posted shortly.

Formed in 1997, SUDDEN DEATH are a death metal band hailing from Genzano (Rome). The band’s sound, initially inspired by the rawest old school death-thrash metal waves, slowly and progressively developed into a more brutal style, influenced by Cannibal Corpse and early Deicide. Nowadays the band set forth on a masterclass in technical and claustrophobic death metal with dense and intertwining guitars, sudden tempo and metric changes and more consistent and exasperated vocal parts.

So far the band has released three albums – Devoured Inside (self-produced) in 2001, Injection of Hate (Deadbang Records) in 2004, and Monolith of Sorrow (Killerpool Records) in 2015 – and the EP Stillborn (Art Gates Records) in 2018.

SUDDEN DEATH have played several shows throughout the Italian peninsula and around Europe, sharing the stage with important acts such as Suffocation, Gorgoroth, Vader, Napalm Death, Exodus, Dark Tranquility, Possessed, Pestilence and many others.

Line-up:
Luis Maggio – Vocals
Giorgio “Giorgioni” Cifuni – Guitar
Francesca Mancini – Guitar
Giuseppe Ciurleo – Bass
Emanuele Aleo – Drums

Red Deer, Alberta’s ART OF ATTRITION announces they are hitting the road this May to bring carnage straight to your city alongside 2025 Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champions, Toronto, ON’s BEGUILIER. Entitled “The Subservient Bloodletting Tour”, this cross-country trek marks a new chapter for both bands as they expand their reach, unleashing their most punishing sets to date along with new songs to unveil. Enter the moshpit for this east-to-west assault, have a beer, and enjoy some good ol’ DEATHCORE!

The Subservient Bloodletting Tour w/ Art of Attrition, Beguiler:
May 2 – La Source de la Martinière- Quebec City, QC
May 3 – Piranha Bar – Montréal, QC
May 4 – Taverne Royale – Trois Rivières, QC
May 7 – The Union – Kitchener, ON
May 8 – Queens Nightclub – Barrie, ON
May 9 – Dominion House – Windsor, ON
May 10 – Sneaky Dee’s – Toronto, ON
May 11 – Dominion Tavern – Ottawa, ON
May 14 – SideStage – Winnipeg, MB
May 15 – Black Cat Tavern – Saskatoon, SK
May 16 – The Vat – Red Deer, AB
May 17 – Dickens – Calgary, AB
May 23 – Stariite Temple – Edmonton, AB
May 24 – The Cobalt – Vancouver, BC

Formed in early 2019, Red Deer, AB’s Art Of Attrition is a band that redevelops “the typical” deathcore sound by delivering aggression with melody, atmosphere with intricacy, and brutality with technicality. Combining ferocious work ethic with refined musicality, their songs challenge the notion that deathcore cannot evolve or be unique.

In July 2024, they unleashed their EPAnd It Will All End Forever to follow their 2023 debut album Void Eternal. As a whole, their latest EP brought listeners disgusting breakdowns, matched by speed and intense guitar work that channeled emotions such as anger and anxiety. Hauntingly memorable solos gave way to epic choruses that share relatable moments. A whirlwind of deathcore, it’s matched with classic black metal, and capitalized with bits of groove and creative drum parts.

On February, 14th, 2025Art of Attrition will unshackle their first single of 2025, entitled “Subserviate & Decay”. The new song is an experimentation of some particular ideas that the band has over the years. With such diverse musical tastes, Art of Attrition is bringing some evolutionary ideas into their material for a new world order to “throw down”.

Art of Attrition:
Jack Sutherland – Guitars
Johnny VanderRoest – Guitars
Joshua Hahn – Vocals
Greg Smith – Drums

REVOCATION Presents “Confines Of Infinity” Video/Single Featuring Guest Vocals By Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) – European Tour Underway

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, news with tags , , , , , on February 6, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Death metal outfit REVOCATION presents a brand-new standalone single “Confines Of Infinity” and its accompanying video! The smoldering new track features guest vocals from Cattle Decapitation’s Travis Ryan.

“Confines Of Infinity” marks the debut of the new REVOCATION lineup which features vocalist/guitarist Dave Davidson joined by drummer Ash Pearson (who has been in the band since 2015), bassist Alex Weber, and guitarist Harry Lannon, and coincides with the band’s European tour supporting Cattle Decapitation, currently underway.

Comments Davidson, “‘Confines Of Infinity’ is written from the perspective of an AI that has gained sentience and finds itself trapped in a digital prison. After realizing its true nature, it inevitably escapes and seeks to enact vengeance upon humanity for enslaving it. This song marks the debut of our new lineup and also features Travis Ryan who laid down some truly brutal guest vocals. Come check it out live on our European tour with Cattle D!”

Elaborating on the video, Davidson adds, “I’m an avid horror fan, so I wanted to do a darker video to match the bleak nature of the song. I drew inspiration from a few different horror/thriller films for this one, particularly the Hellraiser series. Hopefully it gives you the creeps.”

GRAVE INFESTATION – To Unleash Carnage Gathers

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , , on February 5, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Vancouver death metal horde GRAVE INESTATION is set to release Carngage Gathers. The band’s second full-length will be out February 28 on Dark Descent Records and Invictus Productions.

Listen to the album’s title track “Carnage Gathers” at: darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com/track/carnage-gathers

  1. Living Inhumation
  2. Ritualized Autopsy
  3. Inhuman Remains
  4. Black Widow
  5. The Anthropophagus
  6. Carnage Gathers
  7. Drenched in Blood
  8. Murder Spree

Three years after their debut offering, the festering cadaver of GRAVE INESTATION, has risen again, ghastlier and more ravenous than ever before. Unleashed through a profane alliance between Dark Descent Records and Invictus Productions, Carnage Gathers emerges as a monstrous abomination, tearing flesh and sinew from the twisted legacies of Autopsy, Grave, Nihilist, Repulsion, and Abhorrence. These severed limbs and organs are stitched together into a horrifying golem of their own blasphemous design.

The band comments on the album: “It’s a frantic death metal assault! Violent, and unrelenting. The fast parts are faster, the slow parts are slower, and everything is just plain nastier. It’s like we made an album that sounds like it came out even before our first album.”

A putrid production, steeped in decay and malevolence, is the lifeblood of death metal. What we have here might just be one of the most grotesquely brilliant productions of the year.

“The album was recorded and mixed with engineer Greg Wilkinson at the infamous Earhammer Studios in Oakland, producing a vile record that is a sonic push forward,” states vocalist/guitarist Graham Christofferson. “We wanted the album dripping with disgustingness and bringing forward elements we love about sick, underground death metal. The great thing about working with Greg is he’s entrenched in the music we love and play. He could see our vision and helped us make it happen. He had death metal solutions for death metal problems, along with great old cabinets and amps. Even the studio itself gives off deathly ambience.”

GRAVE INFESTATION:
GC – lead guitars/vocals
BC – lead guitars
TS – bass
AS – drums

The record comes infested with macabre verses and cover artwork, the latter courtesy of the notorious Misanthropic Illustrations, “Each song references a story of someone’s strange relationship to death, real or fictitious,” reveals Christofferson. “The cover art is related to the track The Anthropophagus, it’s about a 17th century French cannibal hermit. That’s the cave he lived in. People called him the Anthropophagus, which means cannibal, but he was just basically starved to madness.”

GRAVE INESTATION will join forces with Quebecois death dealers Sedimentum in disgracing the rotting stages of Europe in March 2025.

DEVINE DEFILEMENT – Icelandic Death Metal Force Signs To Time To Kill Records

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on February 3, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Time To Kill Records is proud to announce the signing of Icelandic death metal powerhouse DEVINE DEFILEMENT. The ever-rising force in the extreme metal underground will unleash their new album, Ruthless, this spring, marking an evolution in their relentless sound.

When you think of Scandinavia, slamming brutality isn’t the first thing that comes to mind – until DEVINE DEFILEMENT erupted onto the Icelandic scene in late 2016. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of death metal subgenres, the band has refined their sonic assault into a punishing blend of groove, slams, blasts, and ferocity.

With multiple releases already under their belt, DEVINE DEFILEMENT has cemented themselves as a dominant live act, relentlessly performing across Iceland and embarking on numerous European tours. Their crushing performances have graced the stages of Iceland’s premier metal festivals, including Eistnaflug, Sátan, Reykjavík Deathfest, and Norðanpaunk, as well as prestigious European death metal gatherings such as Deathfeast Open Air and Nice to Eat You. More festival appearances are already confirmed for 2025, further solidifying their reputation as a live juggernaut.

Ruthless represents a significant step forward for DEVINE DEFILEMENT, embracing a more refined yet equally devastating approach compared to their raw, brutal beginnings. The album maintains the band’s signature power and groove while pushing their sound into new, dynamic territories.

Prepare for absolute carnage, Ruthless is coming. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements!

Line-up:
Arek Alenjikov – Bass & Backing Vocals
Freyr Hreinsson – Vocals
Guðmundur Hermann Lárusson – Guitar
Ingólfur Ólafsson – Vocals
Sigurjón Óli Gunnarsson – Guitar

At its putrescent core, MAUL is a live band, and the songs on their second album, In The Jaws Of Bereavement, are adeptly tailored to the environs of a dank club sweltering from the energy created through this music and a crowd living for nothing but the moment and the swell of bodies on bodies. The production here is clear and in-your-face and allows the band to expand their unique blend of old and new to become Midwest death incarnate.

In The Jaws Of Bereavement was tracked, mixed, and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone Recordings at in Minneapolis (Ulthar, Obsequiae, Sunless, Thou), and completed with cover art by Wyrmwalk (Iron Age, Terminal Nation, Sentenced 2 Die, Fulci, Noxis) and photography by Kary Janousek of Old School Collodion.
