Boris Records Announce Vinyl Reissue Of HELLGOAT Debut

Posted in Black Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 9, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Boris Records is set to release the long overdue vinyl edition of the debut full-length album from U.S. Black Metal nihilists Hellgoat. Seventeen years after its initial release, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues has been remastered and pressed for an August 8th release.

The vinyl re-issue comes ahead of the four-date “Satanists in Flames” tour with Nyogthaeblisz. Cities and dates are as follows:

August 17 – Providence, Rhode Island

August 18 – Gaithersburg, Maryland

August 19 – Brooklyn, New York

August 20 – Wilmington, Delaware

___________________________

Formed in 2004 with a relentless commitment to never compromise, Hellgoat unleashed three demos before recording their debut album, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues, released in 2005 on CD alone and in a limited run.

At a time when Black Metal bands were experimenting with symphonic or progressive elements, Hellgoat drew inspiration from the ancient masters and released eight tracks of hateful Black Metal.

Building on this base, Hellgoat subsequently released two albums and numerous EP’s. They have taken their gospel of hate on the road, having toured extensively in every region of the country, as well as internationally.

For the very first time, Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues is being released on vinyl, newly remastered from the original mix and specifically for vinyl by Mammoth Sound Mastering. This is a haunting, savage, visceral assault on the senses. Prepare yourself for Blasphemy from Serpent Tongues.

The band’s seventh full-length offering and second recorded reel-to-reel, Vengeful Ascension was captured at Earth Analog in Tolono, Illinois with longtime soundman and comrade Jarrett Pritchard (1349, Gruesome). A sonic manifestation of war, chaos, desolation, and emotional conflict, seamlessly bridging twenty years of the band’s signature brand of audio venom, Vengeful Ascension finds its members at their most accomplished both individually and as a cohesive unit.

Guitarist Sammy Duet’s dense, sub nuclear riff work and possessed solo blitzes are at their most devastating spiraling flawlessly and instinctually around drummer Zack Simmons‘ and bassist James Harvey’s hammering rhythms with frontman Ben Falgoust’s distinctly commanding roar, his acidic prose more enunciated than ever before, complimenting the apocalyptic proceedings.

The Mighty ARGUS Return With ‘From Fields of Fire’ Sept 8th On Cruz Del Sur Music

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , on July 5, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

ARGUS - From Fields Of Fire - promo cover pic - 2017 - #33MO73ILMFSO3

Four years after the release Beyond the Martyrs, mighty U.S. Heavy Metal torchbearers ARGUS will release From Fields of Fire September 8th on Cruz Del Sur Music! From Fields of Fire is the defining moment from a band that has delivered the goods album after album. It is the highlight of their career to date and it is an album that will be seen as a highlight in heavy metal circles, not just this year, but for years to come.

ARGUS no longer needs an introduction. Three studio albums, three EPs, several European tours and US showcases and festival appearances have established the name of ARGUS as an established force in the Heavy Metal Universe. Yet, ARGUS is a band not content to rest on its achievements. This is a band that is still hungry – a growing and strengthening animal that shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Judging from the outside almost nothing seems to have changed this time around on From Fields of Fire. Another exceptional and visionary cover provided by Brad Moore, and an Intro / Outro on the track list, another of ARGUS‘ trademarks through all their records. But it’s when you get on the inside, when you bite this album below the flesh to the bones that you realize ARGUS has not only been able to maintain their uniqueness, but the band has raised the quality of their creativity and therefore raised the stakes for their future.

ARGUS:

Brian ‘Butch’ Balich – Vocals

Dave Watson – Guitars

Jason Mucio – Guitars

Justin Campbell – Bass

Kevin Latchaw – Drums

________________________________________________

There’s a definite step ahead in terms of production and songwriting, which has reached the highest quality with the addition of producer and guitarist Dave Watson and bassist Justin Campbell in the line-up. The tense opener “Devils of Your Time” and the emotional closing “No Right to Grieve” are the songs that most clearly express their courage and confidence of exploring unusual sonic paths.

But it’s the entire album that confirms that ARGUS is probably the best band nowadays to pay homage to traditional heavy metal without merely aping their heroes. This is true Metal with doom elements, two worlds that often touch, but have never been as well synthesized into a single, organic sound as they are here. From Fields of Fire features some real Heavy Metal gems: the infectious melodies and guitar-drive of “You Are the Curse” and “216,” the moody “Hour of Longing,” the galloping sound of “As a Thousand Thieves” and the borderline epic, ever-shifting majesty of “Infinite Lives, Infinite Doors.”

From Fields of Fire is an album that whose parts are as strong as the whole, where each track is a highlight; yet, it is also an album that demands to be absorbed as a whole where the music, lyrics and atmosphere reach deep inside of you and take root as your appreciation of this band and this music grows to be a part of you.

Track Listing:

  1. Into The Fields Of Fire
  2. Devils Of Your Time
  3. As A Thousand Thieves
  4. 216
  5. You Are The Curse
  6. Infinite Lives Infinite Doors
  7. Hour Of Longing
  8. No Right To Grieve
  9. From The Fields Of Fire

For their seventh studio album, DRAGONFORCE has opened up their sound like never before, capturing the fierce, forlorn and fun with both menace and melody. I think we have proven that playing fast was something we were good at, so this time I wanted to bring even more diversity into our music,” comments bassist Frederic Leclercq. “It’s great to challenge ourselves instead of staying in a comfort zone, and I really wanted to experiment with [lead vocalist] Marc [Hudson]’s vocals. I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality!” The first album to feature Gee Anzalone, the Italian drummer has laid down an impressive performance to provide the perfect backbone to the DRAGONFORCE sound, which of course still boasts the band’s trademark insanely fast solos, courtesy of guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman.

Recording the bulk of the album at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with producer Jens Bogren, the band also laid down tracks while touring their Killer Elite best of-album, utilizing Lamerluser Studios, (London, UK), Dark Lane Studios (Witney, UK), as well as the band’s own Evil1 Studios in Charleville-Mezieres, France and Shredforce One Studios (California, US). BENEATH – Icelandic Death Metal Titans To Unleash “Ephemeris” Via Unique Leader This Summer; New Track Streaming

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 3, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Beneath - Ephemeris - promo cover pic - 2017 - #33MO33

Ephemeris is the third full length release from Icelandic Death Metal titans, BENEATH. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Fredrik Nordström (Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, In Flames, At The Gates, etc.), at the acclaimed Studio Fredman in the fall of 2016. After the departure of founding member and drummer Ragnar Sverrison, BENEATH teamed up with Mike Heller (Malignancy, Control/Resist, Fear Factory) to handle the drums for the album. The result is nine tracks of relentless brutality; an odyssey through the forthcoming millenniums of exponential colonization of planets and galaxies by human induced technology; a world where technology has gone way beyond the frontier of the imagination.

Commented vocalist Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason, “We are immensely proud to announce the release of our third full-length album Ephemeris. We teamed up with Mike Heller to provide session drums for the nine-track album which adds a whole new dimension to the soundscape of BENEATH. Make sure to not miss the release date on August 18th!”

Guitarist Jóhann Ingi Sigurðsson adds, “Ephemeris has been a demanding album for us personally and in many ways, it represents a turning point for the band. We’ve always pushed ourselves in ways that keep us invested and engaged in our music, and on this album, that meant making big changes to our overall sound. There are songs that are a marriage of pure heaviness and brutality, while on the other spectrum there are some very challenging technical arrangements pushing the limits of our playing abilities. In the end, we ended up with an album that feels musically multidimensional and that we are extremely proud of.”

Ephemeris will be released on August 18th via Unique Leader Records. Check out opening track “Constellational Transformation” at the Unique Leader Bandcamp page HERE or below:

Ephemeris – Track Listing:

  1. Constellational Transformation
  2. Eyecatcher
  3. Ephemeris
  4. Alignments
  5. Guillotine
  6. Cities Of The Outer Reaches
  7. Medium Obscurum
  8. Amorphous Globe
  9. Multiangular

BENEATH was formed in 2007. The band released their first EP, Hollow Empty Void, in 2010 which landed them a record deal with Unique Leader Records. In 2012, BENEATH released their first full-length, Enslaved By Fear. The album was mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (Behemoth, In Flames, Meshuggah) at Dug Out studios in Uppsala, Sweden. In 2013, the band headed to Bialystok, Poland to record their second full length, The Barren Throne, with legendary Death Metal producers, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawski, known for their work with bands like Decapitated, Vader, and Behemoth.

The record was released in April 2014 to stellar reviews with No Clean Singing crowning it, “one of the best albums of the year,” hailing their special brand of, “dynamic, intricate Death Metal with a touch of somberness and depressive melody.” Angry Metal Guy concurred, “The Barren Throne is the culmination of … [all the] anti-religion, hate, death, blood, and gore of Enslaved By Fear only this time it’s dragged out across a lengthy eleven grueling abominations,” while The Sludgelord championed the record’s meticulous fusion of, “black, death, and a little bit of prog, all mixed within a cauldron of dark imagery and a tale of a dark being awakening and creating a world of despair and destruction.” 2017 welcomes Ephemeris.

GATEWAY TO HELL – Baltimore Doom Metal Unit To Release Debut EP Via Unholy Anarchy Records; New Track Streaming

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 3, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

“…a groovy, ghoulish mix of doom metal and the laughter of ugly children, with a touch of inebriation and shame…”

______________________________

Baltimore Doom Metal unit GATEWAY TO HELL – fittingly self-described as a, “groovy, ghoulish mix of doom metal and the laughter of ugly children, with a touch of inebriation and shame – will release their debut EP next month via Unholy Anarchy Records.

Slated to drop on July 21st, the five bottom-heavy ragers comprising Clovers were captured at Developing Nations with Kevin Bernsten on their home turf and douses its listeners with heavy riffs, an exceptional vocal attack, and sheer, unrepentant catchiness. The Maryland four-piece conjure loud music about things that matter. Whether it’s a slow burning, existential lament or a fast-paced scorcher about regrettable, late-night, drunken food orgies, GATEWAY TO HELL draws influences from all over the musical spectrum including Deep Purple, Danzig and of course, Black Sabbath.

Clovers will come available digitally and on limited edition vinyl in three color variations (orange/pink merge, clear with blue splatter, and standard black). Preorders are currently available RIGHT HERE.

Check out the title track at the GATEWAY TO HELL Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION or below:

Clovers – Track Listing:

  1. Clovers
  2. Tin Roof
  3. The Drizzard
  4. Rain For Days
  5. Scorched Earth

GATEWAY TO HELL was forged in 2013 when drummer Dan Petruccelli and bassist Rudy Gomez started jamming in the basement of an otherwise reputable Baltimore cake shop. Taking cues from John Carpenter soundtracks, Type O Negative, and Ministry, they realized they were onto something fun and brought in Jerrod Bronson on vocals and Jo K. on guitar to complete the initial lineup. The band released a self-recorded demo in October of 2014 and shows with the likes of The Skull and Crypt Sermon ensued.

By 2015, Gomez moved to Austin, Texas but remains an integral part of the band as the painter responsible for much of the band’s artwork. Eric Smythe was brought in on bass and later Alex Briscoe joined as a second guitarist. Together, they played shows regionally opening for Valient Thorr, The Bronx, Mac Sabbath, and Mondo Generator. In the spring of 2016, they recorded the soon-to-be-unleashed Clovers EP featuring five songs of atmospheric and crushing Metal that fuses their many Metal and punk influences. Later that year, Jo K. fled the band to pursue new projects. The band remains a four-piece. GATEWAY TO HELL‘s catalog includes a self-titled demo, one single titled “Scorched Earth” and their upcoming 2017 debut EP Clovers. The band is currently writing new material for their next album.

DEAD EARTH POLITICS – Part Ways With Drummer

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on July 1, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Dead Earth Politics - band logo - B&W - 2013

Austin, Texas-based Metal group DEAD EARTH POLITICS has parted ways with drummer Mason Evans.

Evans co-founded DEAD EARTH POLITICS in 2005 with vocalist Ven Scott and contributed heavily to the band’s meteoric rise through the Austin Metal scene.

The band issued the following statement on Evan’s departure:

“One of the toughest decisions to make in a band is whether or not to part ways with a brother who has been there from the beginning. Mason is a founding member whose input and talents drove DEAD EARTH POLITICS’ from the onset. With that in mind we are announcing that due to various differences, we have decided to part ways. We wish Mason the absolute very best in his future endeavors and we are stoked as hell to share some big developments with everyone in the very near future.”

The announcement comes on the heels of DEAD EARTH POLITICS‘ 20-city “We Are Runescarred” tour in support of their latest EP The Mobius Hammersmith. Released in March through Pavement Music, The Mobius Hammersmith is the final chapter in a trilogy that began with 2014’s The Queen of Steel.

The band will spend the coming months working on material for a planned full-length release while searching for a new drummer.

Forged from the soul of the Austin metal scene, DEAD EARTH POLITICS is a blade that cuts like no other. Having been compared to the likes of Lamb of God, Iron Maiden, Pantera and other legends, this band strikes at many cores.

DEAD EARTH POLITICS is a five-time recipient of the Austin Chronicle’s “Best Performing Metal Band,” winning the award every year from 2012-2016.

They were also honored in 2014 with the “Ultimate Local Music Worldwide Track of the Year” for “Redneck Dragonslayer,” the opening track on The Queen of Steel EP.

Edmonton shredders STRIKER have won their third Edmonton Music Award for “Metal Recording of The Year” for their single “Phoenix Lights” off their 2016 album “Stand In The Fire”, a record packed with incredible riffs and colossal anthems, all laced together with epic harmonies. The album was both self-released via their indie label Record Breaking Records and self-recorded by the band (Dan Clearly (vocals), Tim Brown (lead/rhythm guitars), William Wallace (bass), Adam Brown (drums) plus help from Randy Black (Primal Fear, Bif Naked, Annihilator) who filled in on drums while Adam was away during recording) along with mixing done by genius Frederik Nordstrom (Bring Me The Horizon, In Flames, Opeth).

The band comments:

“Winning an Edmonton music award is the icing on the cake for an already great year for us. Stand In The Fire opened a lot of doors for us and we are proud to be recognized by our hometown 3 years in a row.”

EDEN’S CURSE – “Eden’s Curse” (Revisited) – CD/DVD Releases On August 25th

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on June 28, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Edens Curse - debut album pic - #MO333ILMF3

From AFM Records:

Release: Aug. 25, 2017

On the 24th August 2007, AFM Records released the debut album by a brand new band called EDEN’S CURSE. Coming on like a cross between classic American bands Queensrÿche and Dokken, married with the European stylings of Pink Cream 69 or latter day Edguy, EDEN’S CURSE were warmly received by the global Rock & Metal press and public alike.

Fast forward to January 2016 and EDEN’S CURSE celebrate a decade together and in October of that year they released their fifth studio album ‘Cardinal’ on AFM Records. To celebrate the tenth anniversary, AFM Records and EDEN’S CURSE hatched a plan to re-record the classic debut album in its entirety. “The first album really was the foundation for all that was to follow. Ever since Nikola joined the band we have been inundated with requests to re-record some of the older material and whilst it would be great fun, it would also be the same amount of work as recording a brand new album.” says bassist Paul Logue.

Coupled with the re-recorded debut album is the ‘Live In Glasgow – Official Bootleg DVD’ which is the ‘Live With The Curse’ live album recording show in its entirety. Filmed at The Classic Grand in Glasgow on 28th November 2014, the release marks the band’s first official live DVD release, albeit in a bootleg form. “The footage is absolutely excellent” states bassist Logue. “We did not intend to film a DVD, but the audio recording company brought two cameras along to capture the show and when we saw the results we were really surprised!“ he adds.

‘Eden’s Curse – Revisited’ is the ultimate package for EDEN’S CURSE fans old and new and a fantastic introduction to the band’s music. It’s a true celebration of the record that started it all, from the guys who carry the legacy forward. Over 60 mins of music and 100 mins of film make ‘Eden’s Curse – Revisited’ a must have for all Eden’s Curse & Melodic Metal fans!

DEMON HEAD – STREAM “WE ARE BURNING”

DEMON HEAD - promo band pic - 2017 - #33MO090ILMFS

Psych/Doom metal band DEMON HEAD have teamed up with PureGrainAudio.com to stream “We Are Burning”. The track is taken from their album Thunder On The Fields which will be released in North America on July 7th 2017.

Stream the track here: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/demon-head-drop-some-doomy-heavy-rock-with-new-single-we-are-burning-exclusive-premiere

About DEMON HEAD:

After a demo tape that quickly sold out, the Winterland 7” came shortly after the bands’ first tour of Scandinavia  In the early days of spring 2014, Demon Head travelled to a small house in the country side near the infamous Heather Hills and recorded eight songs for their debut album Ride the Wilderness. The record was released a year later and the first press sold out in a matter of months. The acclaim of the underground was significant and the album was praised for its skilled songwriting, warm production and a certain sinister catchiness.

As 2017 begins, the new album Thunder on the Fields will be released on The Sign Records. While staying true to their signature sound, the songwriting is more refined, the songs more gritty and burning with urgency.

With new travels being planned in Europe and overseas, there is indeed lightning on the horizon and thunder on the fields.

Texas Doom Duo CANYON OF THE SKULL Releasing ‘The Desert Winter’ August 19th

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on June 24, 2017 by Metal Odyssey

Austin (TX) –  CANYON OF THE SKULL has returned! The instrumental Doom duo of guitarist Erik Ogershok and Adrian Voorhies (Humut Tabal) will release sophomore album The Desert Winter on August 19. The CD version will be available in a gorgeous 6-panel format.

Consisting of the undeniably epic 37-minute title track of blackened doom, The Desert Winter is a journey deep into the psyche. Listeners are strongly advised to clear out all head space (and any earwax) and settle in for this existential Ride of the Doomed!

Recorded at WoodenHorse studios October 2016.

Mixed and Produced by Zawicizuz and Canyon of the Skull.

Mastered by Proscriptor McGovern (Russ R. Givens) at Nox Luna Inlustris Music.

Artwork Layout and design by Erik Bredthauer.

Adrian Voorhies – Drums, Percussion

Erik Ogershok – Guitars, Bass, Percussion

BAND BIO:

The brainchild of Erik Ogershok, COTS was initially manifested in the winter of 2006. Several local appearances and lineup fluctuations later, life happened, and the project lay dormant. 2014 saw the return of Ogershok as he recruited new musical personnel in the form of drummer Adrian Voorhies of the Austin-based Black Metal outfit HUMUT TABAL and once more brought the doom ensemble to life to melt the faces of all who sought shade in the Canyon walls.

After numerous regional gigs both opening for touring colleagues and spearheading an array of craft beer events and festival slots (including two SXSW appearances), the band closed the year with a blistering performance at the End of the World Fest in Houston alongside Austin brethren The Sword and Eagle Claw. 2015 saw the creation of the band’s first recording, a self-titled EP solidifying the now scaled down duo of Ogershok and Voorhies as a force to be reckoned with in the Texas doom scene.

With the EP capturing some attention, they embarked on a two-week tour of the Midwest, bringing their signature brand of instrumental doom from the Twin Cities to Louisville. Once home, the band commenced production on their most ambitious musical effort yet with rare selected live performances across the lone star state. In October, they headed back into Wooden Horse studios with an A-list production team of Zawicizuz (The Black Moriah) and Proscriptor McGovern (Absu) and their sophomore offering was forged. Now, as the band prepares to release The Desert Winter, only one message can truly be counted on: Abandon All Hope.
