The Metal Grasshopper series continues and Episode 5 offers a “Vulgar Display of Feelings” as Philip H. Anselmo agrees to undergo group counseling with delusional man-child, Dave Hill, in an effort to rescue the goat that also happens to be Anselmo’s grandmother. There’s not a dry seat in the house as Dr. Joe Randazzo aids Anselmo and Hill in an exploration of their feelings.
Scroll on over to Metal Injection to watch Metal Grasshopper Episode 5: “Vulgar Display of Feelings,” with the whole damn family at THIS LOCATION. While you’re there, catch your lazy ass up on the last four chapters”
Episode 1: “Origins” – Anselmo reluctantly agrees to share his Heavy Metal wisdom with Hill.
Episode 2: “The Awakening” – Anselmo schools young Hill on headbanging, Heavy Metal vocals, and the most extreme of all breakfast cereals. Oh, and Dave takes a phone message for Phil from King Diamond, which is awesome.
Episode 3: “Metal Or Not Metal?” – Anselmo puts Hill to the test with a round of Heavy Metal flash cards. Later Anselmo makes Hill sit in a closet for a seriously long time while he makes an awesome salad. Also, Hill rents a goat.
Episode 4: “Unscared” – Anselmo lets Hill loose on an unsuspecting public, where he meets an actual woman. Anselmo also schools Hill on stage banter, corpse paint, and other important topics. Later Anselmo and Hill get in a huge argument from which they may never recover!
Metal Grasshopper pairs the unlikely duo of Metal master Philip H. Anselmo with comedian, dandy, and NPR darling, Dave Hill. Hill begs Anselmo to mold him into “the baddest metal motherfucker of all time.” Anselmo begrudgingly relents and the abuse and absurdity reaches epic levels. Metal Grasshopper was directed by Chris Lee with Joe Randazzo, written by Chris Lee, Dave Hill, and Phil Anselmo, edited by Phil Costello and produced by Chris Lee.
LAMENTATIONS OF THE ASHEN, the blackened Doom Metal project of Bon Vincent Fry, will release their long-awaited album Libertine Cyst on January 20 2015.
Consisting of four epic tracks, Libertine Cyst is the follow-up to 2011’s EKIMMV. In regards to the album, Bon has released the following statement:
“Finally, after 3 years, I am pleased to present my 3rd full-length album, ‘Libertine Cyst’ to the world. This album was the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do musically. I was dealt an endless amount of obstacles (some self-created) which constantly resulted in delaying my progress. I feel that this record stands as a testament that the path of maximum resistance produces a more thoroughly honed work of art. I think the material contained here marks a new height in my song writing and atmosphere for this project. It’s hard to express how pleased and relieved I am to finally have this behind me and shift my gaze even further into the blackness beyond the stars. This is where it ends for me, and starts for everyone else.”
Praise for past Lamentations of the Ashen albums:
“After many repeated listens, I’m fucking way beyond just impressed! Every song on this album is a dark majestic voyage to a universe where the evil thoughts of others are murdered by our protective black dragons.”- Cvlt Nation
“Stirring the aether with bleak and depressive anthems of blackened doom, Lamentations of the Ashen achieves wonder in an audio sea of woe.”- Worm Gear zine
The band’s most varied and devastating release to date, The Art of Vengeance blends elements of traditional death, bone crushing doom, punk and thrash for results that are both destructive and addicting. The first pressing of the album also includes a bonus DVD featuring a documentation of the band’s latest tour.
Critical Praise:
“Old school death metal and thrash from Brazil, where you’ll still get your ass kicked sideways for being a poseur.” – Decibel

“A well-rounded expression of brutality which is at once instant to the ears and yet always bruising.” – Metal Forces Magazine

Characterized by a progression towards the chaotic, opaque darkness that now permeates their sound, the history of the Canadian Black/Death Metallers has led to the establishment of an undeniable identity, most evident on this debut album. Utilizing abyssal, morose imagery combined with a strong sense of Thelemic ritualism, DIRE OMEN has developed a unique take on the Black/Death genre.

COUNTESS – ‘Sermons Of The Infidel’ contains a selection of 15 songs from Countess’ past. These tracks were selected by the band and all – save two live songs – were recorded again specifically for this album, throughout 2013 and 2014.
Eight of these tracks were released in 2013 as a digital-only EP. Due to popular demand, the band decided to release a physical version as well. The original eight tracks have been remixed and remastered and seven tracks have been added: five more new versions of Countess classics – including a Manilla Road cover – and two live songs, recorded at the ‘Metal Magic’ festival in Denmark this year.
Though not an anthology in the strictest sense, this record does include many highlights from the band’s extensive discography. It is therefore a perfect record for those who aren’t familiar with Countess yet to get a first taste of the band’s unique take on metal.
‘Sermons Of The Infidel’ is released exclusively as a digipak with an 8-page booklet. The album is out now.
To get a taste of the album, listen to and watch Countess’ official video of ‘Bloed In De Sneeuw’, below. This perhaps Countess’ most well-known song as well as the first-ever Black Metal song with lyrics in Dutch. The original version was released on the band’s sophomore album twenty years ago.
Countess is a Dutch band that has been unleashing metal music upon the world since 1992. Countess’ unique and harsh style of metal, characterized by an uncompromising loyalty to the old Heavy Metal and Black Metal traditions but by no means unoriginal, has certainly gone through changes over the years, but its essence has always remained the same.
The most important influences of Countess are the old Black Metal legends like Venom, Bathory and Hellhammer and traditional Heavy Metal bands like Manowar and Manilla Road.
Since 1993, Countess has released fourteen full-length albums. The most recent record, ‘Ancient Lies And Battle Cries’, was released this year.
In 2014 Countess also took to the stage again for the first time in more than sixteen years, including succesful shows at the ‘Veneration Of The Dead’ festival in Rotterdam, ‘Under The Black Sun’ in Berlin and ‘Metal Magic’ in Denmark.
Currently, the band is rehearsing for more upcoming shows as well as working on new material. After 22 years, Countess is still going strong.
A 2xCD collection of King Diamond songs, newly enhanced into ultimate editions by King Diamond and Andy LaRocque themselves, will be released by Metal Blade Records on November 11th.

LIVE BURIAL – The self-titled EP from Live Burial has made me proclaim it as: over 22 minutes of savage and doom ridden Death Metal, that can easily rip and tear your Metal soul apart. This is some of the most enjoyable Metal I’ve listened to in 2014; Live Burial is Death Metal with hefty doom influence that’s 100% underground and the real deal. Originating from Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, this is a Death Metal band I’m more than elated to welcome across the Atlantic.
Jamie Brown offers up some disgustingly violent vocals and growls and the entire band plays some solid Death Metal, across 4 scathing songs, to my ears. Excellent! Live Burial prove they can play at eye-popping breakneck speed or slow it down to an evil Doom death march for the gathering of innocent mortal’s souls. The guitars without a doubt have some Tony Iommi influence snuck in there, with the rhythm section playing at a constant resounding capacity. Live Burial is an EP I won’t be forgetting about for quite some time, both nefarious and old school. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Taken from their new album Devil Down, “Daisy Cutter” showcases why the band has been generating a considerable buzz since their recent appearance at Southwest Terror Fest. Devil Down is due to be released on December 2, 2014.
MAUSOLEUM GATE – Finland’s Mausoleum Gate sure did their Metal research when it comes to Classic/Traditional Metal; their self-titled, debut album makes for powerful sonic proof of my stating such. Many old school Metal fans will surely get jubilant over the overall sound, energy and rhythms that Mausoleum Gate have tapped into. This clever band has even tipped their hats to the NWOBHM vibrations as well. Guitar fueled songs such as Demon Droid and Lost Beyond The Sun showcases Mausoleum Gate as a Metal band that digs the classic six-string jam and long solos.
If I didn’t know better, I would honestly think Mausoleum Gate came from the late 70’s or early 80’s, they have absorbed that era of Metal stylings so well! Still, there is that ever presence of sonic relevancy due to the rejuvenated Traditional Metal scene that really never evaporated entirely in the first place. The splendid idea of Mausoleum Gate incorporating an organ to their Metal is nothing short of genius; it only captures those hazy shades of early 70’s Metal all the more glowingly.
The bass and drumming on this album gives me the chills at times, with an almost haunting sense that this rhythm section plays. Great stuff. Vocalist V.-P Varpula is a marvelous listen, falling somewhere between Don Dokken and a restrained Bruce Dickinson. Um, I hope that makes sense. The title track is an epic 11:37 long and has become one of those captivating songs that I love escaping from reality with. Great stuff.
This album is not Screaming For Vengeance and it’s not Iron Maiden either. Instead this album is a six song reminder that the seeds of Classic Metal were planted properly many years ago and propagated a very promising, very exciting Metal band known as Mausoleum Gate. Metal be thy name – Stone.
Mausoleum Gate was released on October 7th, 2014, via Cruz del Sur Music.
Turn the volume to HIGH and enjoy some MAUSOLEUM GATE! Support this tremendous METAL band! Whoa!
HORRIFIED – The world of Death Metal is a much more potent and kick-ass place to roam, especially when bands like the UK’s Horrified release such a blistering excellent album such as Descent Into Putridity. Old School Death Metal is celebrated on this album of seven blood soaked songs; seven songs of pummeling and relentless sonic assaults to my cranium!
There’s something about Death Metal that makes me feel like all is okay, just like a security blanket is to a tot. Trust me, my Metal brethren, when I say all is okay with this Horrified album! These songs suck me in, like a Death Metal vacuum to the outer-banks of Hell itself and I refuse to resist! Whoa! I have no problem letting the deathly grooves and insane speed of Horrified’s Death Metal engulf me, man it feels so right! Dan Alderson’s guttural vocal sounds are what gives this album that much more of a rabid and infectious bite!
Descent Into Putridity was released on October 21st, via cult Spanish label Memento Mori Records. It is amazing for me to realize that this is the debut album from Horrified; for this band plays as if they’ve been brutally assaulting eardrums togetherfor a decade or more! For me to pick a favorite song on this album is ridiculous; it’s the entire seven song merciless sonic surge, that has made my Metal week so grand! Metal be thy name – Stone.
Below, blast the volume high for HORRIFIED and support this amazing band! Whoa!
