ILIUM Release Lyric Video – EP OUT NOW!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on January 17, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Australian metal band ILIUM are streaming their new EP Quantum Evolution Event now! To celebrate the release, the band has released a lyric video for their track “Undergods”.

Stream the full album: https: //iliumaustralia.bandcamp.com/album/quantum-evolution-event-ep

Melding dark supernatural and sci-fi themes with an exploration of the human condition and the natural world, ILIUM create a huge melodic sound combining influences from power, traditional, progressive, thrash and symphonic metal. Quantum Evolution Event follows the release of ILIUM’s 2020 album Carcinogeist and its accompanying EP Enviro-Metal.

Hailing from Newcastle, Australia, ILIUM released their debut, self-titled EP in 2002. Working with a wealth of guest musicians and producers over the years including Mike DiMeo (RIOT, MASTERPLAN), Tommy Hansen (HELLOWEEN, PAGAN’S MIND, PRETTY MAIDS) and Lance King (BALANCE OF POWER, AVIAN), Quantum Evolution Event is no different. The new EP features long-time collaborators Tim Yatras (DUNGEON, LORD, GERM) on drums and Lord Tim (LORD, BLACKENED ANGEL, FROMBEYOND) on vocals and production.

Striving to further develop their sound with each release, the dynamic outfit deliver epic lead melodies and solos and soaring vocals, and compose arrangements designed with dramatic impact in mind. Quantum Evolution Event opens with a flourish of melodic theatrics in the title track. Harsh distortion from the guitars and powerful percussion is balanced with ethereal synths and harmony filled vocals. ILIUM pack a real punch with strong guitar driven rhythms creating heavier sounds in “Undergods” and “Hostile Sky”. Contrasting these elements with highly intricate riffs and charismatic voices.

Explosive energy fuels the new release with each track bringing an epic intensity. The instrumentation throughout Quantum Evolution Event explores a vast array of metal subgenres and yet ILIUM fuse them into their own distinctive style.

DESOLATE SHRINE – To Return With “Fires Of The Dying World”

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on January 17, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Finnish death metal trio DESOLATE SHRINE will reemerge from the crypts with their newest offering, Fires of the Dying World. Dark Descent Records will release the album on CD, cassette, and digital formats on March 25. Vinyl treatment coming later this year.

At long last the successor to 2017’s Deliverance from the Godless Void has been unconfined from the clandestine vaults of Dark Descent Records. Aptly titled Fires of the Dying World, Finland’s DESOLATE SHRINE delivers 46 minutes of their unique death metal possession. The masterful craftsmanship on DESOLATE SHRINE’s fifth album is unmistakable; a true portrait of a band at their absolute peak.

Yet be forewarned before indulging from the poison chalice of Fires of the Dying World for it ensnares its victims in an inescapable maelstrom of death and futility. Absolute surrender is the recommended response, as you descend into a claustrophobic trance that erases the world around and reaches into your very soul. When you awaken… nothing will be quite the same again… Let the fires burn.

Tracklist:

  1. Intro
  2. Echoes in the Halls of Vanity
  3. The Dying World
  4. The Silent God
  5. Cast to Walk the Star of Sorrow
  6. My Undivided Blood
  7. The Furnace of Hope

MT – Vocals
LL – All Instruments

Texas Thrashers XIL To Release New Album

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on January 16, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Texas thrashers XIL will release their upcoming album Rip & Tear via Confused Records on Feb 25th 2022.

Blasting out of the savage underground of south-central Texas, the trio unshackle a dynamic sound born out of speed and thrash, with a riotous rock ‘n’ roll edge. Attacking with a powerful brutality, XIL’s new album speeds through the light barrier with intense energy that refuses to let up. “Speedemons” races at redneck speed following the dark entities in their mission to pillage and plunder the human species. “Breakneck” begins with a slower tempo building up to a dramatic transition into hard-hitting percussion and kick-ass guitar riffs.

Creating a wall of sound with the instrumentation, XIL’s vocals soar above the utter heavy chaos, bringing their own raw, aggressive impact into the mix. Concluding Rip & Tear with “Equinox” combines the pillars of their sound to an ultimate climax. It’s energetic and filled up on guitar riffs producing a blazing effect.

The future of the Earth may be looking rather bleak as the demonic warrior forces take control, but death by thrash and speed seems like a pretty good way to go. Dive head-first into this epic metal fantasy.

TWISTED TOWER DIRE – Nameless Grave Records To Release “Crest Of The Martyrs Demos” From Virginia Heavy Metal Act – “Some Other Time, Some Other Place” Streaming + Preorders Posted

Nameless Grave Records presents Crest Of The Martyrs Demos, an alternate/demo version of TWISTED TOWER DIRE’s adored third album, making the recordings available for the first time.

In the days of olde, after classic heavy metal was supplanted by extreme music and before the current reignition of interest that the genre has enjoyed, Northern Virginia’s TWISTED TOWER DIRE tirelessly defended true heavy metal in all forms as they sought to breathe new light into a then largely dead genre. By the time their now-legendary third album Crest Of The Martyrs was written they were on top of the world, having played Wacken for the first time a couple years earlier and having released two full-lengths on The Miskatonic Foundation, run by Rich Walker of Solstice fame, as well as a wide array of EPs, splits, compilation tracks, and more.

Crest Of The Martyrs was the next step: a bigger power metal label, sleeker production, and TWISTED TOWER DIRE’s biggest hooks and choruses yet. Underneath the gleaming power metal edge provided by the production provided by the label and studio still lurked the same triumphing true metal band, however, and for the first time, Nameless Grave Records is proud to present Crest Of The Martyrs the way the band originally intended it: as a devastating, lean set of heavy metal bangers untouched by modern power metal production, and alternate studio decisions.

Old fans of the band can rejoice to have this different set of recordings available for the first time, and new fans can marvel at the powerhouse of one of America’s finest bands playing at their best. Highly recommended for fans of Visigoth, Pharaoh, and Omen.

Recorded in 2002 at Killabrew Studios, produced by Matt Crooks and TWISTED TOWER DIRE, and mastered by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studios, Crest Of The Martyrs Demos is completed with artwork personally done for this release by guitarist Scott Waldrop. The CD version features bonus tracks not included on the vinyl, including a second demo as well as a live track from Wacken 2003, and both the CD and vinyl editions bear liner notes from the band. The LP will be pressed in a total run of 500 copies, including 300 on Black and 100 on Silver. No Remorse Records (Greece) will have an exclusive 100 copies on Light Blue vinyl.

Stream the previously unreleased version of TWISTED TOWER DIRE’s “Some Other Time, Some Other Place” RIGHT HERE.

Crest Of The Martyrs Demos will be released through Nameless Grave Records on March 3rd. Find preorders at Bandcamp HERE and the label webshop HERE.

MESHUGGAH – Announces New Album “Immutable” For April 1st Via Atomic Fire – Album Preorders Start January 28th

Posted in Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , , on January 15, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Mavericks. Pioneers. Unique. Immutable.

Destined to be one of 2022’s most hailed and talked-about releases, Immutable once again showcases MESHUGGAH’s collective brilliance, including some of the most jaw-dropping ensemble performances they have ever executed.

Six years on from the band’s most recent full-length, The Violent Sleep Of Reason, 2022 brings a fresh and fearsome revelation from MESHUGGAH. Shattering even the highest of expectations, the band’s ninth album is simply their wildest and most esoteric sonic adventure yet and will be released on April 1st via Atomic Fire. Recorded at Sweetspot Studios in Halmstad (Sweden), mixed by Rickard Bengtsson and Staffan Karlsson and mastered by multiple Grammy award winner Vlado Meller(Metallica, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System Of A Down), Immutable will be available in various CD, vinyl, and tape formats. Presales will begin on January 28th, and the first single will be revealed very soon. The stunning cover artwork was once again created by visionary artist Luminokaya.

For guitarist Mårten Hagström, the task of embarking on another unprecedented tech-metal odyssey was impossible to resist.

“The title fits perfectly for where we are as a band,” Hagström concludes. “We’re older now. Most of us are in our fifties now and we’ve settled into who we are. Even though we’ve been experimenting all along, I also think we’ve been the same since day one. The way we approach things and why we still make new albums, and why we still sound the way we do, it’s immutable. Humanity is immutable, too. We commit the same mistakes over and over. And we are immutable. We do what we do, and we don’t change.”

Legendary. Unique. Immutable.

MESHUGGAH is still operating on a higher level of metallic consciousness than just about everybody else. This band blow minds for a living, and Immutable is their most explosive work of monstrous art yet.

MESHUGGAH stand alone. The most inventive and creative metal band of the last thirty years and one of the most widely revered, MESHUGGAH has been standard bearers for forward-thinking creativity in heavy music throughout their illustrious careers. Over the course of more than three decades and eight studio albums, Sweden’s widely worshipped progressive mavens have consistently redefined what it means to be heavy, while exhibiting a ferocious intelligence that belies the crushing weight of their riffs. From the ground-breaking savagery of 1995’s Destroy Erase Improve, to the psychedelic tech-splorations of CatchyThirtyThree, and on to the streamlined grotesquery of ObZen and Koloss, MESHUGGAH has always been way ahead of the game and plainly without peer.

An album vocalist John Bush refers to as the band’s “cornerstone record,” Symbol Of Salvation Live is a combination live album and video of the band playing the album in its entirety at New York City’s famed Gramercy Theatre during their 2018 tour. It captures the power, diversity, and peerless songwriting contained within. “I felt like showing Symbol… in another light was a great homage to the record itself,” states bassist Joey Vera. “Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say, ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place.”

MÆNTRA – Release Drum/Guitar Playthrough Video For “Svadhisthana”

Posted in Death Metal, Extreme Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on January 13, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

San Francisco (CA) – Brutal Death/Industrial Metal healers MÆNTRA have released a Drum/Guitar Playthrough Video for “Svadhisthana,” the first single from forthcoming debut album Kundalini Rising. Featuring Adam Houmam (drums) and Rudy Pina (guitar), the video is available at the following link: youtu.be/kW1rjY88pPg and below:

MÆNTRA will release Kundalini Rising on February 18.

A lyric video for “Svadhisthana” is also available at youtu.be/4bOyD6SQZYc. The single is streaming on Bandcamp as well.

13.8 billion years ago, the universe was born from a big bang and consciousness was created through the sound of OM. From the journey of billions of years of evolution, survival, death, rebirth, wars, peace, and music emerges MÆNTRA, a quartet committed to helping their listeners find their own personal light by playing in the darkness and embracing aggression. MÆNTRA lays their meditative lyrics on top of a unique blend of brutal death metal, industrial sounds, atmospheric tones, and intentional healing energy.

It is said that by simply playing the debut album, Kundalini Rising, the listener is brought to a state of euphoria and dissolution of the ego. Time no longer has meaning and the past and present don’t exist. Layering a sonically aggressive sound with intentional healing and empowering lyrics, this journey of releasing demons and rejuvenating the soul is grounded in a tour of the seven chakras, guiding listeners through the healing process to release tension, erase limited beliefs, and improve overall physical and mental clarity. Fans can expect in person healing through MÆNTRA’s unique live experience shortly thereafter.

MÆNTRA was formed in 2017 through the current third dimensional incarnations of guitarist and vocalist Rudy Pina and drummer Adam Houmam (Cartilage, Ghoul, Terrorizer L.A.). The universe then brought Paul Ryan (Origin) on bass/vocals and keyboardist Martin Boynton (Short Fuse) to complete the team.

SHIELD OF WINGS – Release Captivating Video For First Single “Wetland”

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on January 9, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Midwest American Symphonic Metal band SHIELD OF WINGS emerge from their hiatus, and make their thrilling entry into the new year with their debut single, “Wetland”. The song is coupled with a captivating music video. “Wetland” is the first offering from their forthcoming debut full-length album, Unfinished, set to release February 11th. Sure to appeal to fans of symphonic metal giants NIGHTWISH and EPICA, as well as film score composers like HANS ZIMMER, JAMES HORNER, and HOWARD SHORE, their new album, Unfinished, will bring into view 10 bombastic compositions of poetic exploration.

Vocalist Lara Mordian comments on the “Wetland” filming process:

’Shooting Wetland, and wading through that cold, wet, filth, was a challenging albeit invigorating time for me. Prior to filming in late autumn, I was warned of the certain discomfort to come, but I was reassured by James that “pain is temporary, film is forever”, and I embraced it.”.

Each song from Unfinished explores themes of growth through self-examination, regret, sacrificial death and rebirth. From the “Crushing Hail” of the suffering which is inherent in life, the listener is carried through this journey, until the final track expounds upon the realization that we are all, in ways, “The Scarred Clay Reshaping.” With bold, vast orchestral compositions soaring over chugging guitars, SHIELD OF WINGS makes it abundantly clear that they are Unfinished, in more ways than one.

SEVEN NINES AND TENS’ “Over Opiated In A Forest Of Whispering Speakers” Out Now/Streaming

Posted in Hard Rock, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on January 8, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Vancouver (BC) – Willowtip Records has released “Over Opiated in a Forest of Whispering Speakers”, the new album from Seven Nines and Tens. Stream the album in its entirety at:

sevenninesandtens.bandcamp.com/album/over-opiated-in-a-forest-of-whispering-speakers

Over Opiated in a Forest of Whispering Speakers still features the sounds on which the band made their name (Post Hardcore, Shoegaze, Progressive Rock, and Math Metal), but features some new stylistic touchstones, such as 70’s hard rock, classic rock, and more traditional metal styles. All in all, Over Opiated in a Forest of Whispering Speakers aims to be one of the finest metal albums to be released in 2022 and a career highlight for the band.

Over Opiated in a Forest of Whispering Speakers marks the first time that band founder/songwriter David Cotton wrote lyrics/sang vocals on a Seven Nines and Tens record. The band was never intended to be instrumental and the addition of vocals coupled with the tightest set of songs of their career seems to have elevated the band’s sound to another level. In writing the record the band performed live with a ton of acts including Minus the Bear, Alcest, Pinkish Black, Nothing, Elder, Astronoid, Royal Thunder, and many others. The new album marks the arrival of the Seven Nines and Tens sound.

Seven Nines and Tens’ third album, Over Opiated in a Forest of Whispering Speakers, is the follow-up to their 2012 debut album Habitat 67, sophomore albumSet the Controls for the Heart of the Slums, and 2019 career-spanning cassette boxset Satisfy the Faction.

TOM MCKAY – Announces New Album

Posted in Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on January 5, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

TOM MCKAY will unleash his new album Call To The Dæmon Sultan in February 2022. Delivering thundering metal instrumentation with ethereal orchestral soundscapes, the new album is a dynamic listening experience.

TOM comments:

“I’ve been meaning to put together a collection of songs for some time, but up until now have never had enough material I was proud of to do so. Now, after a year of writing, recording and writing again, my debut EP has brought forth the heaviest songs I’ve ever written, both musically and emotionally. Allow me to take you on a deep dive into how I view the world and myself through 3 songs of teeth cutting vocals, playful riffs and melodies, and soaring orchestral work.

He awaits at the edge of time, for the Dæmon Sultan is benign, but ever present.”

Heavier than his previous releases, the new album delves into themes of idolism, isolation, mental illness, existentialism; with special guests NATHAN GROSS contributing orchestration on the title track, and LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT performing vocals on “The Benighted One”.

Vancouver Trad-Metallers MAULE Premiere New Song: “Sword Woman”

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on January 5, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

Vancouver (BC) – New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal newcomers Maule have released a new song from their forthcoming debut album. “Sword Woman” is available to stream at: youtu.be/i9E0IYetTF4

Maule will release their self-titled, full-length debut album January 14, 2022 on Gates of Hell Records (a Cruz Del Sur Music sub-label). Pre-orders are available at the following links:

CD: https://tinyurl.com/2p8fhtx8
LP: https://tinyurl.com/4wdt5rws

A lyric video for opening track “Evil Eye” is available at: youtu.be/eB5noCcqIRM

Pure, aggressive traditional metal that captures the spirit of NWOBHM for the 21st century! On their self-titled album, Vancouver’s Maule reinvigorates the sounds of the early 1980s with a fresh, energetic twist, making it one of the year’s most exciting debuts!

More than four decades after its arrival, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) continues to inspire new musicians. Its first wave, of course, helped create thrash and laid the groundwork for the European and North American metal scenes that would take shape throughout the ensuing decade. And while Iron Maiden and Saxon emerged as the unabashed mainstays of the style, bands like Angel Witch, Blitzkrieg, Diamond Head and Tygers of Pan Tang established the core sonic tenants that now live on through bands a generation removed, including Vancouver, British Columbia’s Maule.

Formed in 2017 by rhythm guitarist/vocalist Jakob Weel and bassist Johnny Maule, Maule broke onto the scene in 2019 with their From Hell demo. The five-song offering made waves throughout the metal underground, showcasing a young band with a deft grasp on traditional metal. As it turns out, Johnny Maule and original lead guitarist Daniel Gottardo came from a classical and jazz music background, informing their unique sense of riffs, rhythms and songwriting arrangements. The momentum from the From Hell demo carried the band into 2020 when they began work on what became their eponymous debut, their first release for Gates of Hell Records.

Recorded in February 2020 at Little Red Sounds Studio with producer and engineer Michael Kraushaar, who previously manned the From Hell sessions, Maule’s self-titled debut is an nine-song realization of the band’s sound, stocked with thrash-inspired riffing, anthemic choruses, blazing leads and Weel’s sharp, biting vocal approach that capably handles aggressive and mid-tempo material. (Gottardo played all leads on the album, but has since been replaced by Justin Walker.)

Lyrically, Maule embraces the storytelling philosophy embraced throughout classic metal with tales of life and death, with additional nods to Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft. The album’s cover art was created by Dave Levi Holland and was based on a sketch from Johnny Maule.

Track Listing:

  1. Evil Eye
  2. Ritual

  7. Father Time
  8. March of the Dead
