ARMORED SAINT released their Symbol Of Salvation Live CD/DVD this past Fall via Metal Blade Records. The release came in celebration of the seminal album’s 30th anniversary. An album vocalist John Bush refers to as the band’s “cornerstone record,” Symbol Of Salvation Live is a combination live album and video of the band playing the album in its entirety at New York City’s famed Gramercy Theatre during their 2018 tour. It captures the power, diversity, and peerless songwriting contained within. “I felt like showing Symbol… in another light was a great homage to the record itself,” states bassist Joey Vera. “Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say, ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place.”

ARMORED SAINT – Announces North American Tour; Band To Perform ‘Symbol Of Salvation’ In Its Entirety

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , on March 1, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

Armored Saint - Summer 2018 - tour flyer - #333MO222ILMFG103

This summer, ARMORED SAINT will embark on a North American tour commemorating their classic Symbol Of Salvation full-length. On this special thirteen-date run, the band will perform the record in its entirety, with select shows to be recorded for a live DVD. Support will be provided by label mates Act Of Defiance. See all confirmed dates below.

Frontman John Bush comments:Symbol Of Salvation! Arguably ARMORED SAINT‘s most important record. These songs came out of us being dropped from Chrysalis Records and finding out about guitarist Dave Prichard developing Leukemia. The songs took on a much more emotional meaning than any other previous record. We wrote songs of desperation like ‘Another Day’ and ‘Last Train Home,’ experimental tunes like ‘Tainted Past’ and ‘The Truth Always Hurts,’ and classic SAINT rockers like ‘Reign Of Fire,’ ‘Dropping Like Flies,’ and the title track. After Dave passed, the band regrouped with Phil and Jeff returning as the guitar tandem. It was a family again. Dave Jerden produced the record and this marked the beginning of Joey becoming the producer of the band. It’s going to be a memorable tour. Songs like ‘Burning Question’ and ‘Spineless’ we’ve never played live before. Come share it with us. Let’s make Dave proud.”

ARMORED SAINT w/ Act Of Defiance:

7/10/2018 The Chance – Poughkeepsie, NY

7/11/2018 Sellersville Theater – Sellersville, PA

7/13/2018 The Gramercy Theatre – New York, NY

7/14/2018 Brighton Music Hall – Boston, MA

7/15/2018 Petite Campus – Montreal, QC

7/17/2018 Mod Club – Toronto, ON

7/18/2018 The Cambridge @ House Of Blues – Cleveland, OH

7/20/2018 Shelter – Detroit, MI

7/21/2018 Reggie’s – Chicago, IL

7/22/2018 Shank Hall – Milwaukee, WI

8/16/2018 Count’s Vamp’d – Las Vegas, NV

8/17/2018 Parish @ House Of Blues – Anaheim, CA

8/18/2018 The Regent – Los Angeles, CA

To further celebrate the legacy of this album, Metal Blade Records will reissue Symbol Of Salvation on CD and LP on May 18th. The LP will feature a vinyl remastering from Patrick W. Engel as part of the “Metal Blade Originals” series. Special treatment and 400-gram heavy cardboard spine sleeves (inside out print), 60x60cm two-sided artwork posters and 250-gram inserts guaranteed! The CD will include four bonus tracks. Preorder your copies now via Indie Merch, EMP, or eBay!

After being dropped by Chrysalis Records in 1988, ARMORED SAINT began writing for a new record and searched for a new label. During 1989, founding guitarist/songwriter Dave Prichard was diagnosed with Leukemia. In January 1990, Prichard was hospitalized for a bone marrow transplant but succumbed to the treatment, passing away on February 28th, 1990. By this time, the band was writing as a four-piece, with Dave being the sole guitarist; they had written twenty-five songs and demoed all of them.

Metal Blade Records CEO/founder Brian Slagel approached ARMORED SAINT and offered a recording deal in late spring of 1990. They regrouped with original guitarist Phil Sandoval and Jeff Duncan, who was hired as a touring guitarist during a 1989 tour with King Diamond. The recording of this new album – which would become Symbol Of Salvation – began in the winter of 1990 with producer Dave Jerdan (Alice In Chains, Janes Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers), and it was engineered by Brain Carlstrom (Alice In Chains, The Offspring, Rob Zombie). During recording, the band used a guitar solo from a demo track played by Dave, and included it on the song “Tainted Past.”

ARMORED SAINT toured with the likes of The Scorpions, Suicidal Tendencies, Wrathchild America, Sepultura, and more, in support of Symbol Of Salvation. Now, in 2018, the band brings back these classic tracks to the live setting, for fans to enjoy once again, in honor of Dave’s memory.

BEHOLD! THE MONOLITH released its third full-length album, Architects of the Void on September 30, 2015. Stream the album in its entirety here. Purchase Architects of the Void on CD and vinyl at http://beholdthemonolith.storenvy.com/.

Architects of the Void follows critically acclaimed  2012 release Defender, Redeemist and marks the debut of vocalist Jordan Nalley who took the reigns following the tragic 2013 death of Kevin McDade in a car accident. The album is the first for new bassist Jason “Cas” Casanova (SASQUATCH). The album artwork was created by Dusty Peterson (Bloodbath, Six Feet Under, Oceano).

Praise for Architects of the Void:

“Healthy doses of doomy riffage, pummeling heaviness, and expansive/exploratory parts that just might take you on a journey to another planet.” – MetalSucks

“With elements of all good things that are heavy, the new release by Behold! The Monolith is a musical battle hammer shattering the skulls of the weak and feeble. ” – The Ripple Effect

“The Monolith deals in stoner/sludge stuff somewhat akin to High on Fire and/or Lord Dying, with song titles and artwork that would give The Sword’s J.D. Cronise a hard-on.” – Hellbound.ca

ARMORED SAINT “La Raza” – An Album That I Appreciate More With Every Listen

ARMORED SAINT – Back on March 16th, 2010, La Raza, the sixth studio album from Armored Saint was released, via Metal Blade Records. Sometimes I just don’t realize how enormous an album truly is, until I’ve listened to it over the course of a few years. It happens. When La Raza was first released, I really, really liked it. Now, I flat-out love this album to pieces! For me, this is an album that just sounds better after each listen.

I did write about my favorite song from La Raza which is: Chilled. This post goes back to April 19th, 2010. Basically, as the title to that post states: Chilled Chills And Thrills My Metal Soul. Metal be thy name it sure does. Click on the link below and you can read this post if you like!

Wanna See My “Hell On Wheels Tour 1987” Cassette? Features: Helloween, Armored Saint and Grim Reaper!

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, Power Metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on November 1, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

HELL ON WHEELS TOUR 1987 – That’s it at the top! That’s my Hell On Wheels Tour 1987 cassette! This (now historical) tour featured: Grim Reaper, Armored Saint and Helloween. Whoa! As you can see, this cassette was a free sampler!. I obtained this old school Metal cassette sometime last Winter, at a thrift store. I paid a ridiculous price of 50 cents (U.S.) for this very cool cassette too. Yes, it plays just fine!

This tour was sponsored by MTV Headbangers Ball; yet there is no print or logo stating this on the cassette. The inside of the cassette jacket is blank. Notice the crack on the cassette tape box? That’s old school man!

Back in 1987, the Hell On Wheels Tour did not pass through the state I was living in; that being the very expensive state of Connecticut. Can’t see ’em all, I guess. Still, it super sucks I never saw this tour.

Here is what the spine of this cassette looks like:

Hell On Wheels Tour 1987 – Track Listing:

Side One:

Side Two:

Here is what the backside of the cassette tape jacket looks like:

The 3 record label logos printed on this cassette tape jacket are: RCA, Concrete and Chrysalis.

Here are the studio albums that the bands were respectively supporting on this tour:

Stone’s Note: All 3 albums are a MUST for all generations of Metalheads! Metal be thy name!

Speaking of Power Metal pioneers HELLOWEEN… their 14th studio album, Straight Out Of Hell, will be released on January 18th, 2013! Whoa! Metal be thy name! Yes, I’m psyched-out about this! Are you?

ARMORED SAINT – Returns To The East Coast For Three Shows This Fall Of 2011!

LA’s Armored Saint has been listening to east coast fans clamber for a Saint show for years, and finally they are prepared to answer the call! The band will be returning to New York for the first time in twenty years along with two other shows in Amityville, NY and Allentown, PA. Armored Saint will be playing songs from their latest album, La Raza, as well as a set full of songs from throughout their deep and storied catalog. Support on these dates comes from fellow Metal veterans Seven Witches.

Joey Vera discusses the shows further: “In July, we held a poll asking fans to choose their favorite Saint songs and we compiled a list of the top 10. At recent gigs in Los Angeles and in Germany, we would allow fans to come up and choose one of the top 10 songs for us to play, right there on the spot. We did this 3 times during our set. It was such a good time that we’re going to do this again for our tri-state shows. John Bush will stop the show at 3 different times and choose someone from the crowd to come up and pick what song we play next. So come down and be a part of choosing our set list for the night!”

Armored Saint – “Revelation” brings forth Heavy Metal intensity

Armored Saint "Revelation" small picArmored Saint is an Old School Heavy Metal band, a band that proved to me years ago, they were all about Metal. One listen to any album from the Armored Saint catalog and one will understand what I mean about all Metal. One album in particular, that really drives the message home as to the serious Heavy Metal Music that Armored Saint delivers is “Revelation”, (released on March 7, 2000, on Metal Blade Records). I bought this album as exactly such… on vinyl. This album is a twelve song, two record set, with three songs per side of each album. There still is a cool Metal rush I experience when holding onto an actual record, placing it on a turntable, then letting the Heavy Metal roar. Armored Saint does exactly that, they storm out of the Heavy Metal gates on “Revelation”, this album sets me on the Metal path I belong on. It is going on ten years since this album was released, yet the Heavy Metal that blasts from “Revelation”, is just as exhilarating as any new Metal music releases I have heard lately.

“Revelation” is one of those rare albums where I flat out tell my fellow Metal peers… buy it and be glad you did. You are getting more than you expect with Armored Saint, no songs are watered down, the musicianship is Metal superior and lead vocalist John Bush is one of the greats at fronting a Heavy Metal band. Armored Saint may not be Thrash Metal, nor are they Death Metal… they are bona fide Heavy Metal with an extra dosage of heavy. “Tension”, “Creepy Feelings” and “Damaged”  really showcase the vocals of John Bush, he never over reaches on any notes, he only defines how Heavy Metal is supposed to be sung. “Tension” is a song that is extremely relevant, lyrically, to what is currently taking place in corporate America. On “After Me, The Flood”, sure, John Bush lets out a scream or two, he mixes it up vocally with potent Metal fervor. “Revelation” seems to rupture at the seams with non-stop, great songs. If only every Metal album could be like this… skipping over tracks is totally unnecessary here.

“Den Of Thieves” is a heavy song that demonstrates the guitar brilliance of Phil Sandoval on lead guitar and Jeff Duncan on rhythm & lead guitar. This guitar duo erupts with melodic leads and contagious riffs that make my Metal day complete. “Control Issues” is arguably the heaviest song on this album, lyrically making quite the impact that the music itself intends. “No Me Digas” is the bonus track included on this album… it is sung in Spanish, the lyrics inside the album gatefold are in Spanish as well. I am not too fluent with my Spanish, however, I will say that this song rocks along well just the same. This song is proof to me, that Heavy Metal Music is without question, a universal language and expression – for us all to pump our fists in the air to. In the end, I have been Metal schooled again, this time by “No Me Digas” and Armored Saint.

As for the rhythm section of Joey Vera on bass and Gonzo Sandoval on drums, they play as tight and effective as any in Heavy Metal. The focal point of this band for me, is the all encompassing power of the music, without sacrificing a melodic moment here or there. I usually try not to spill over, too excessively, with Metal glee, in regards to a Heavy Metal album or band. “Revelation” is one Heavy Metal album that I want to put out to the world, to spread the Metal message that these songs need to be heard. Armored Saint deserves my admiration, every time I listen to this band and/or “Revelation”, it makes me Metal proud. Long live this Heavy Metal band they call – Armored Saint.
