Philadelphia – ASG, North Carolina’s favorite Psych-Rock quartet, have set a May 28 release date for Blood Drive, their Relapse Records debut.
Blood Drive was produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Fu Manchu) in the Fall of 2012. “Days Work,” a new song from the album, was released as a split 7″ with Red Fang on Tuesday (http://www.relapse.com/split-7in-ep-blue.html). The new album will be available on CD/2xLP/Digital.
The band also kicked off a new round of tour dates, including a stop at SXSW, with a Wrightsville Beach performance last evening at Red Dog’s.
Ohio-based trio THE UNCLEAN has this month self-released their sophomore full-length album, in the process unleashing some of the most classic but contemporary, polluted but pristine Rock n’ Roll the underground has to offer.
Known for trolling Akron’s dive-bars and tattoo shops, the members of THE UNCLEAN collective pulled their resources together in 2007. Hailing from predominantly sludge/doom-scene acts including Rue, Fistula, Sofa King Killer, with this act the members crank out solid, no-frills, riff-heavy, Blues-based Rock anthems. With influences and comparisons tracing to classic acts like ZZ Top, Humble Pie, Thin Lizzy and Motörhead, the band self-released their debut album No Excuse Necessary in the Fall of 2008 and have since honed their soulful tunes even further on-stage regionally, alongside other hard-working local and touring acts.
At the end of 2012 the trio shacked-up in the studio to lay down the thunder that would culminate into their second full-length. The drums were recorded at Studio Time in Akron, Ohio (former Black Keys studio) by Jason Tarulli (current mastermind behind Black Keys live sound), and the rest of the album written, recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by the band in their own Unclean Studio. Now completed and available to the public once again in totally D.I.Y. fashion, THE UNCLEAN proudly offer their most honest and lively material yet with The Eagle.
Boasting nearly forty minutes of ballsy, Bluesy, beer-swilling anthems about good times and bad, guitarist/vocalist Bremmy (ex-Sofa King Killer, Honkeytonk Damnation), bassist Burns (ex-Rue, Nailblack, Fistula, Sofa King Killer), and drummer Frank The Tank (ex- Search Block) play it straight from hip, loud and in your face.
After releasing The Eagle this month digitally via all the usual online suspects (iTunes, Spotify, EMusic, Google Play and more), THE UNCLEAN will drop a CD version in the coming months alongside regional shows and sporadic touring in support of the record. Stay tuned for further info in the coming weeks.
Okay, so there are worse things in life to worry about. I know that. I am thankful my family and I are all alive and healthy after our big relocation to Ohio; via Pennsylvania. Still, I am floored by how messed up my CD collection has become, since the unpacking commenced! I, like so many of my fellow Metal brethren, have always strived for some sort of “system” to the way I group my CD collection. I’m far from being a perfectionist, however, I’ve come close to it, when it comes to my CD organization skills.
Part of my CD collection used to be in alphabetical order. Other parts of my CD collection used to be divided up into bands and genres. Now my CD’s are just divided up into a where is it? collection! You see, I was told not to pack my CD’s by the moving company; they were hired to do all the packing of all our possessions for us. I should have packed my own CD’s. Glory be to the Metal Gods, I should have!
Eventually, I’ll have my “systems” all back into place and my CD collection will be back to normal. For now, I’ll just get by with having my Hatebreed and Electric Light Orchestra CD’s next to each other. I’ll ignore that my Venom CD’s are on top of my Santana CD’s too. I’m certain that these CD’s will all get along with each other; unless the Venom CD’s have something to say about it! Metal be thy name.
Legendary Metal Queen DORO PESCH is currently finishing up the Raise Your Fist North American Tour which commenced with a fiery appearance on the 70000 Tons Of Metal Cruise late last month! Comments the perpetually upbeat DORO: “So far the tour has been so amazing! It’s the best North American tour we’ve ever done. The venues have been packed and so many have sold out. Some shows have been very long — everyone wants to hear so many songs; so many encores! We are so looking forward to playing the rest of these shows, especially Hollywood! The old Warlock members, our label and so many friends are coming out. I truly thank all the fans who’ve made these shows so amazing and possible.”

Critical Praise For Raise Your Fist:
“…probably the classiest lady in metal.” – Outburn
“Raise Your Fist is a solid outing for DORO PESCH and at this stage in the game, would expect nothing less from her. She still manages to savor that hard rock image and make it work for her and I hope she never stops doing this. I say raise your fist in the air babe, and never let it go.” – Blistering
“On her 12th solo album, German metal maiden DORO PESCH sounds more assured than ever, particularly as a songwriter on these 13 taut, Teutonic tunes.” – Revolver

SATAN – Legendary British Heavy Metal band SATAN will release Life Sentence, their first studio full-length under the SATAN banner since 1987’s Suspended Sentence, on April 29th in Europe and in May in the U.S. on Listenable Records.
The cover art for the album (pictured above) was drawn by famed artist Eliran Kantor (SODOM, TESTAMENT, HATEBREED – http://www.elirankantor.com) and depicts a similar graphic concept as their 1983 debut, Court In The Act. Mixed by Dario Mollo at Damage Inc. Studio in Italy and tracked late last year at First Avenue in Newcastle, Life Sentence is a very strong uptempo Heavy Metal album that will undoubtedly become a Metal classic.
Fittingly, Life Sentence will mark the 30th anniversary of their greatly acclaimed debut Court In The Act. The new album will also feature the same line-up that appeared on that now-classic piece of Metal history.
Live footage of the band performing “Heads Will Roll/Hunt You Down” at a 2011 gig at The Purple Turtle in London can be seen at http://www.vimeo.com/29945653.

SATAN are a Heavy Metal band originating from Newcastle, England in 1980, known as part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement. Though generally obscure throughout their career, the band is considered influential for playing a form of proto-Thrash Metal that was fairly advanced by the standards of the early 1980s. SATAN remained inactive until re-assembling for a one-off gig at Germany’s Wacken Open Air in 2004, and finally reunited in their original Court In The Act line-up for 2011’s Keep It True festival. The band performed at several european festivals in 2011 and 2012 and have announced more festival shows and new album for 2013, to mark the 30th anniversary of their debut release.

VOIVOD – Target Earth, is the 13th studio album from Progressive/Thrash Metal legends VOIVOD. Guitarist Daniel Chewy Mongrain meritoriously steps in for the late, legendary (and irreplaceable) Denis “Piggy” D’Amour and fits in perfectly with the entire world of unique Metal sound that only VOIVOD delivers. Co-founder and bass guitarist Jean-YvesThériault appears once again on this (thoroughly memorable) VOIVOD album; with Jean’s last VOIVOD studio album contribution being 1991’s Angel Rat.
When a band of such influential status like VOIVOD sticks to their (musical) roots while avoiding any unnecessary reinvention of their own Metal wheel, grand things can happen. Target Earth is such a “grand thing” and I am overjoyed by both this album and VOIVOD’s admirable perseverance. With 2013 being the 30thAnniversary of VOIVOD, old school fans should be drooling over Target Earth. New fans of this Canadian national Metal treasure are surely being recruited into the VOIVOD realm, thanks in part to this band’s tour stops and Progressive/Thrash relevancy.
________________________________
I’ve always embraced the originality of VOIVOD, their blend of sound coupled with experimentation really has survived a bevy of “flavor of the month” genres over the decades; while their underground aura will never vanish, regardless of how popular they are in our Metal circles. As strange as this sounds, my 80’s VOIVOD collection of Metal has survived on none other than… cassettes. I’ll never part with them either, just as I’ll never part with Target Earth.
There’s always been that comfort food type of vibe I get from VOIVOD’s Metal and I’ll never be able to explain it away. Target Earth is not just a must album for 2013; it has earned my required status among Metal albums for 2013. Get into The VOD and thank me forever. Target Earth surely will be in my Top Twenty Metal Albums Of 2013 list; this new offering from VOIVOD is that beneficial to my Metal soul. Metal be thy name.
* Album artwork created by Away.
* VOIVOD Target Earth was released on January 22nd, 2013, via Century Media.

“We hope this year will be a year of firsts for the band and we are off and running in that regard already!” comments the band vocalist ArdChieftain O’Hagan. “We are more than pleased to return to Paris for Cernunnos Paganfest. For an indoor event, it captures the Pagan atmosphere more than any other Festival in terms of decor, entertainment and general vibe. If our reception is as rapturous as last time we will be equally as delighted.”
“It’s been a decade since we last visited the west of Ireland and we jumped at the chance of playing in Galway as part of the Seactain na Gaeilge [Irish language week] celebrations.”
Commenting on the bands turn to new lands ArdChieftain adds, “There is no better feeling than playing new places, making new friends and sampling new cultures, so finally visiting Poland, Austria and Hungary is something we are very excited about, and are equally as pleased to be returning to Berlin, where we get the chance this time to play a full length set.
We would have been pleased with just one Polish gig but to have two is a huge bonus. We get to, not only visit Warsaw, but also Zielona Góra and we are really looking forward to experiencing the notoriously crazy Polish Metal audiences.
After having several aborted attempts to play in Austria over the years, we finally get the chance with a show in Klein-Pöchlarn. We hope our Austrian fans enjoy our performance.
None of us has visited Hungary before, so to be able to play in such a beautiful and historic city as Budapest has got our collective pulse racing. We have heard nothing but praise for the Pagan/Folk Metal scene in Hungary so it will be amazing to experience it for ourselves.”
‘Kindred Spirits’ was released on July 16th and August 14th in North America 2012 via Listenable Records and has gained worldwide acclaim. Dubbed “A proper fucking metal album!” by Metal Hammer and “A beautiful, inspirational and often stunning album” by Sonic Abuse.
Manilla Road is back with their landmark 16th full length album, Mysterium; due out February 19th on Shadow Kingdom Records.
After a career that has spanned more than three decades, the band shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. In fact they’re more active now than ever with all of the live shows booked for 2013; including an appearance at this year’s Maryland Death Fest. The time has come for Manilla Road to break out of the underground bubble and get to the level where they can get some wider acclaim to all of the hard work that’s been put forth all of these years. Mysterium is another quality Manilla Road release that sounds a lot more classic/traditional than their previous, more experimental album Playground of the Damned.
The production on Mysterium is a step above anything Manilla Road has released in the past, bringing the band into the modern era without sacrificing an ounce of their legendary style. With all of their albums, there’s nothing that’s ever the same with the albums they create or the production they have, but that’s what makes Manilla Road, Manilla Road.
2013 promises to be a huge year for MANILLA ROAD. The release of Mysterium sees this legendary band firing on all cylinders. With a successful appearance at the Metal Assault III Festival in Germany under their belts, MANILLA ROAD is set to dominate more stages throughout the year. Performances at Maryland Deathfest, Chaos In Tejas, Sweden Rock Festival and Hellfest Open Air are only a handful of shows announced for 2013 thus far. For a complete listing of MANILLA ROAD live dates, visit http://www.manillaroad.net.
Feb. 12, 2013, San Francisco – Mike Patton, in a rare and comprehensive interview, is on the March cover of Decibel Magazine.
“I first saw Faith No More in 1992, when the band came to my podunk hometown on the Angel Dusttour, with Helmet opening in support of Meantime.” says Decibel Editor-in-Chief Albert Mudrian. “It seems sort of fitting that we’d catch up with Mike Patton as he releases a new Tomahawk record that features former Helmet drummer John Stanier as well.”
The seven-page article, written by J. Bennett, spans the San Francisco-based musician’s history from his Eureka, Calif. roots with Mr. Bungle, on to his work with Faith No More and his move toward independence with his own Ipecac Recordings and his eclectic incarnations via Fantômas, Mondo Cane and Tomahawk amongst others. Copies are on newsstands now and can also be purchased via Decibel’s website: http://store.decibelmagazine.com/collections/back-issues/products/march-2013-101.

Long Island-based Heavy Metal powerhouse MAELSTROM has issued an update regarding the enormous reception received by the Halloween 2012 digital reissue of their critically acclaimed EP, It Was Predestined. Widely-praised by critics across the globe in 2009, when the EP was originally self-released, and again last year when Itchy Metal Entertainment(IME) offered the release to Metal fans worldwide, It Was Predestined exploded onto the CMJ Loud Rock charts this month. MAELSTROM vocalist Gary Vosganian had this to say about the accomplishment:
“It is with great pride that I can say – MaelstroM has hit the US radio charts with our EP It Was Predestined – debuting at #20 on the Nationwide CMJ Loud Rock charts and as the 4th most added album in the country. Thank you to all that have helped and have been fans since the start and congrats to my partner in this effort the true guitar virtuoso Mr. Joey Lodes. Our label partners Itchy Metal Entertainment our PR group ClawHammer PR and of course our radio promoter Munsey Ricci and Skateboard Marketing Ltd. without whom this would have never happened, and of course all the fantastic Djs that are supporting us with their spins – it is sincerely appreciated. There is much work to be done as guitar tracking for the balance of the album has begun this week. But I will take a little time to really absorb the news about CMJ and celebrate this victory! Thanks again to all the fans who have stuck by MaelstroM, your unwavering support has been amazing. Keep it Heavy!”
As Vosganian stated, the band is currently at work on new material for the follow-up to It Was Predestined. Details on the next release will be announced as they come. Stay tuned!
It Was Predestined is available at http://www.itchymetal.com. Famed music journalist Martin Popoff called the release “A symphony of progressiveness the likes of which has pretty much never been articulated, invented, or heard, before now,” and world-renowned publications such as Terrorizer, Metal Hammer and MetalSucks.net all sang MAELSTROM’s praises upon the EP’s release.

Danbury, CT – Wishbone Ash, one of the most influential guitar bands in the history of Rock, kicks off the North American leg of their 2013 tour on February 28. The group returns to these shores following a successful spring tour last year to celebrate the release of their highly acclaimed studio album, Elegant Stealth, and on the heels of the RoadWorks 3 release, a collection of live performances.
During the Elegant Stealth Tour of 2012, Wishbone Ash played to full houses in the Northeast and Midwest. The upcoming North American Tour features many familiar venues plus several new stops, including dates on the West Coast and in Canada.
Released in November 2011 by ZYX Music, Elegant Stealth represents a benchmark in the evolution of Wishbone Ash. Signature twin-lead melodies and a powerhouse rhythm section frame 11 new tracks that reflect a diverse realm of styles and moods.
Formed in 1969, Wishbone Ash has more than 20 original studio recordings and several live albums to their credit. On Elegant Stealth, the group coalesces around strong songwriting and serious chops. Founding member AndyPowell handles lead vocals and trades licks with Finland’s guitar wizard Muddy Manninen. Bassist Bob Skeat, a 15-year veteran of the band and in-demand studio musician, sets the pace with Joe Crabtree, one of the best of Britain’s new breed of drummers, having played with Pendragon and David Cross of King Crimson. The band demonstrates its versatility on Elegant Stealth, from the Pop/Rocker “Reason to Believe” to the gentler vibe of “Give it Up” to tunes like “Warm Tears” and “Big Issues,” where the band gets to stretch out and flex its musical muscles.
Below, listen to and watch the music video forReason To Believe:
Classic Rock Revisited’s Jeb Wright called Elegant Stealth “one of the best albums in Wishbone Ash’s 42 year career.”
Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck of MuzikReviews.com said, “This band is like a fine wine that just keeps getting better with age and this is one of their strongest studio releases in years.”
“The songs are catchy, very technical, but there is a soul in what Wishbone Ash is doing!” said Mark Kadzielawa of 69 Faces of Rock.
Citing Wishbone Ash as an influence on their style, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Southern Rock outfits like Lynyrd Skynyrd and, more recently, heavyweights like Opeth and some of the guitar- based Indie/Alternative bands, have all taken a little something from the legendary twin-guitar approach of Wishbone Ash. Truly, there is no other Rock band on the planet that has done more with the twin guitar concept than the Ash.
