‪CLAUSTROFOBIA – Announce Headline European Tour!

Posted in Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on March 13, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Claustrofobia - promo band pic - 2015 - #0313CMO

“Get ready for brutal metal with real feeling from the fucking third world! We are gonna put the mosh pit on fire so pay attention and join us!”

Heady advice from vocalist and guitarist Marcus D’Angelo on what Europe can expect when Brazilian Thrash heavyweights Claustrofobia come crashing into town on their headline Visceral European Tour.

The band announce a 29 date tour taking in eleven different countries over nearly two months on the road, and include appearances alongside the likes of Primordial and Fleshgod Apocalypse at Portugal’s SWR Festival [01/05/15]. More dates will be added in the coming weeks.

For now to give you a taste of what to expect on the tour, watch the band’s video for track ‘Bastardos do Brasil’ from most recent album release, Peste [2011/2014]:

Claustrofobia has been causing brutal Thrash mayhem in Brazil and beyond for the past twenty years and the band is looking forward to celebrating their anniversary with their European fans! Comments Marcus, “To play live is the real ambition of bands like us. We don’t like ‘internet bands’; we prefer to play face to face. We will play gigs almost everyday so we will spread our music around.”

The band has also released an exclusive DVD entitled Visceral 20 Years showcasing Claustrofobia’s journey to the well-oiled Thrash machine that it is today.

And it’s not just about the celebration of the past twenty years, it’s about looking to the future too as the band is only recently out of the recording studio with none other than producer Russ Russell [Napalm Death, The Exploited, Evile] at the helm.

“We are very excited with the results!”, states Marcus. “It is gonna be a great album with a futurist vibe and it will hopefully open up our own sound in a new way.’ The untitled album, which as of yet does not have any label attachment, can be expected nearer the end of 2015.

KINGS DESTROY – Brooklyn Stoner Rock/Doom Unit To Release New Full-Length Via War Crime Recordings; Preorders Available

Posted in metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on March 10, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Kings Destroy - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #KDMO770310

Brooklyn stoner rock/doom unit KINGS DESTROY will unleash a brand new studio offering on May 5th. The self-titled monster and follow-up to last year’s critically-lauded A Time Of Hunting full-length was produced and mixed by Sanford Parker (Twilight, Voivod, Eyehategod, Yob etc.) at Studio G in Brooklyn, mastered by Collin Jordan (Eyehategod, Indian, Wovenhand, Voivod etc.) at The Boiler Room in Chicago and delivers seven, lead-footed doom rock hymns.

With their third album in four years, KINGS DESTROY leave their hardcore-born stamp on noise rock and doom. After sharing stages with Pentagram, Winter, Saint Vitus, Church of Misery, Yob, Pallbearer, Vista Chino, Orange Goblin, Trouble, Acid King, Corrosion Of Conformity and so many others, the five-piece stand tall with their defining statement.

Championed Yob guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt: “It’s a great album. Heavy, yes. Doom? Yes, with a dose of the best of the ’90s. I’m a fan of the ’90s,” he further elaborates, “so that is meant as a compliment. But what is best about KINGS DESTROY is that they write good songs. Helmet meets early Queens Of The Stone Age meets Kyuss/Unida, roughly. [Steve] Murphy’s vocals are strong and really steps up what is already killer. Great production, tones, performances.”

Adds Pentagram’s Bobby Liebling:KINGS DESTROY is some heavy shit. I can feel the emotion. I can tell Murphy has got some serious pain; he’s singing from his balls.”

Kings Destroy – Track Listing:

  1. Smokey Robinson
  2. Mr. O
  3. W2
  4. Mythomania
  5. Embers
  6. Green Diamonds
  7. Time for War

KINGS DESTROY is the name of an infamous graffiti gang from the Bronx circa late ’70s/early ’80s. The band members met in this vicinity and were heavily involved in the New York Hardcore scene of the late ’80s that merged hardcore music, metal, graffiti and hip hop. The band unites musicians from many of the genres’ most prolific bands.

Hailing from the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, KINGS DESTROY features guitarists Carl Porcaro and Chris Skowronski from legendary, 100K album selling Killing Time, vocalist Steve Murphy from Uppercut, drummer Rob Sefcik formerly of The Begotten, Uppercut, Fur and Electric Frankenstein and bassist Aaron Bumpus. Applauded for channeling “…Sabbath’s grooves, Sleep’s foggy haze, and Yob’s oppressive thunder,” by The Village Voice, KING DESTROY‘s distinct sonic brew is at once crushing and cathartic.

Kings Destroy will be released on LP, CD and digitally on May 5th, 2015 via War Crime Recordings. CD preorders are currently available HERE. For vinyl preorders go HERE.

BAND LAUNCHES NEW LABEL AND PRODUCTION STUDIO: MYSTERY BOX

LOS ANGELES, March 9, 2015 – Nekrogoblikon, the Los Angeles-based band who describe their music as “goblin metal” and became internet sensations with their day-in the-life-of-a-goblin video for “No One Survives,” return with new album, Heavy Meta on June 2.  A new song from the album, Full Body Xplosion, can be heard below:

“A thousand years ago, we began writing an album,” explained Nekrogoblikon singer, Scorpion.  “Then we spent 998.5 years dicking around in the cave networks of rural Kentucky. After we were all spelunked out we decided we might as well finish the album. The album is Heavy Meta.”

The 10-song album arrives via the multimedia outfit’s new label, Mystery Box, which is distributed by Razor & Tie. Mystery Box will serve not only as the band’s label but also as a freestanding production company headquartered in downtown Los Angeles.

“”We’re excited to finally announce the launch of Mystery Box, which will not only serve as a label for Nekrogoblikon and other musical acts, but also as a creative hub for artists and projects outside of the music realm. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said guitar player Alex “Goldberg” Alereza.

SIX FEET UNDER – Releasing New Studio Album “Crypt of the Devil” On May 5th, via Metal Blade Records

Six Feet Under - Crypt Of The Devil - promo album cover pic - 2015 #663409MO

As reported by Metal Blade Records:

~ Six feet under ~ will release “Crypt of the Devil” – their eleventh studio album, on May 5th! Listen now at: http://www.metalblade.com/sixfeetunder

With Crypt Of The Devil, Barnes has worked to continue the overall story from the previous works, wherein he is penning lyrics from the perspective of a serial killer. Or as Barnes describes, it’s a “winding journey through his mind. The songs paint a picture that’s not necessarily linear, rather a meandering back and forth through a dark soul.” Soon-to-be-classic cuts such as “Open Coffin Orgy” serve as exemplary examples of the fruits of Barnes’ macabre muse.

GRUESOME – First Taste Of Debut From Death-Worshipping Supergroup Now Playing – “Savage Land” To See Release Next Month

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on March 3, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Gruesome - promo band pic - 2015 - credit Niuvis Martin - #0093300MO

Savage Land is the forthcoming debut full-length from death metal perpetrators, GRUESOME. Featuring within their bestial ranks members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa, GRUESOME is a supergroup of sorts paying homage to the game-changing sounds of Death’s early recordings.

GRUESOME was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios’ (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours – Harvey serving as frontman for the original nine-member mini-tour and Rios performing “Baptized In Blood” and working with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following US tour where Exhumed filled in as support on a several dates.

After discarding the idea of putting together another incarnation of DTA to focus exclusively on Death’s first two albums, Harvey half-jokingly suggested writing their own songs in that vein. It wasn’t long before the idea gained traction, and the “band” had five songs written. Rios later recruited Possessed guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and Derketa bassist Robin Mazen to record the material in Florida.

Gruesome - Savage Land - promo album cover pic - #2015MOG0223

The result is the eight scathing tracks contained on Savage Land. Recorded by Rios and Gonzalez at Riversound Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, mixed by Jarrett Pritchard at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and including a guest guitar solo on “Closed Casket” by James Murphy as well as cover art by legendary illustrator Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Massacre, Athiest et el), Savage Land is a truly gruesome slab of late-’80s/early-’90s Florida-styled Death Metal.

Set for release next month, today team GRUESOME offers up fourth track “Hideous” for communal absorption. The track is based on 1932 horror film, Freaks, in which the characters were played by people who worked as carnival sideshow performers and had real deformities. The original version was considered too shocking to be released, and no longer exists.

Gruesome - classic band logo - #2015GMODM

Rios further elaborates, “‘Hideous’ was one of the last songs to be written for the album. By that point Matt had really hit a stride with the writing and this song turned out to be one of our favorites! It seamlessly blends influences from the first three Death albums with even a tiny tip of the hat to Human. Listen closely after the solo section…you’ll swear it’s 1988 for real! We sincerely hope that everyone enjoys this as much as we did creating it! Hail Chuck [Schuldiner]!”

Sample “Hideous” via SoundCloud HERE or YouTube HERE.

Tragically, there will never be any truly new Death material, but GRUESOME is humbly determined to keeping the band’s classic sound alive as faithfully as possible. Savage Land will be released in North America via Relapse Records on April 21st, 2015, April 17th in Germany, Benelux and Finland and April 20th in the UK, rest of the world on CD and digitally. For preorders scroll on over to THIS LOCATION. Digital preorders are available via iTunes HERE and the GRUESOME BandCamp page HERE.

U.D.O. “Decadent” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on March 2, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

UDO - Decadent - promo album cover pic - #201501

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

4.5 metal-fists-4-5-album-reviews-metal-odyssey

On February 3rd, Decadent, the fifteenth studio album from Germany’s legendary U.D.O. was released, via AFM Records. I’ll readily admit that this is one of the finest U.D.O. albums ever, with what I consider a whole lot more melodic interplay going on between the guitars and rhythm section. My favorite song on Decadent is Mystery and it’s a melodic Heavy Metal classic already, in my Metal world. This entire Decadent album sounds classic to me and makes for a formidable follow-up to 2013’s Steelhammer studio album.

Drummer Franceso Jovino is an awesome presence on Decadent and has since parted ways with the band. Udo Dirkschneider’s son and band drum tech, Sven Dirkschneider, has since been hired on as the new drummer.

As with AC/DC and Motörhead, fans of U.D.O. are gonna know what they’ll get from this band. With that said, there is a more open spaced vibe about Decadent than previous U.D.O. albums; where the songs sound as if they’ve been crafted for a more widespread consumption of Heavy Metal fans. No worries, this new U.D.O. album is no commercial ticket to Hollywood’s good old boys club. The big guitar sounds on this album are equivalent to an endless bottle of psyche-you-out elixir!

Below. check out the fabulous song Pain:

There’s more rhythm than crunch on Decadent and the great Udo Dirkschneider sings with an enthusiasm that I noticed quickly from the start; this is not a Heavy Metal legend that is forcing his vocals for the sake of making the record. Udo sings as if he is prepared for a world-wide arena tour and his band shall take a back seat to no one. Honestly, this Decadent album plays out that fantastic. It only takes a couple of thorough listens to Decadent for me to realize that Udo Dirkschneider is not interested in resting on any Metal laurels. I respect that to the fullest!

Throw in the fact that all twelve songs are worthy of their own music video and I do declare this being an album of SONGS. Decadent is a grand example of how a Heavy Metal band should leave all the artificial flavors and fillers behind and focus on composition and lyrics. The title track, PainSecrets In ParadiseUnder Your Skin and Untouchable are five other standout songs that really soar for my Metal soul. Very well done, once again, U.D.O.! Metal be thy name – Stone.

Crowquill Records Sign Codas

Crowquill Records - banner logo - 2015 - #33CRMO337728

Crowquill Records is pleased to announce that they will be releasing the debut EP of CODAS, the post-metal project from Mario Quintero of Sleep Lady and Spotlights. The EP, which is titled Currents, is projected to be released in the spring of 2015.

Currents will consist of 4 tracks and is recommended for fans of bands such as Jesu, Nadja and Old Man Gloom.

Label CEO BJ Dierkes had the following to say about the signing:

Codas is one of those projects that comes along out of nowhere and just kicks you right in the gut.  Their debut EP “Currents” hits a sweet spot across an entire spectrum of influences and genres that have been masterfully melded together.  This stuff is on a whole other level, and we’re stoked to be working with them.

The label has released a teaser trailer for the album which can be viewed below or at this location:

About Codas:

Codas is the solo project from New York-based Mario Quintero of Sleep Lady and Spotlights. A year after relocating from San Diego, CA, Codas began as an experiment in not over thinking things, as well as not being concerned with any specific sound or genre. Their debut EP “Currents” (Crowquill 2015) displays elements of post-rock, noise, and even the math-ier side of 90s post-hardcore, laced with influences of industrial, doom, and black metal.

GRUESOME is a debilitating Death Metal faction featuring members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa. A respectful celebration of the sound of the early Death records, the collective was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios’ (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours, with Harvey serving as frontman for the original nine-member mini-tour and Rios performing “Baptized In Blood” and working with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following US tour where Exhumed filled in as support on a several dates. Elaborates Harvey, “We had such a blast writing and recording this album, I just hope people enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed doing it. It was a great experience working with my friends in Florida and getting to write and record my take on the Death sound. I’m beyond happy with the way everything came out and I hope people take it as the loving, respectful piece of work that it is. I know that sounds counterintuitive for a death metal album, but the whole band is really a super nerdy fan letter to Chuck [Schuldiner], James [Murphy], Rick [Rozz], Terry [Butler], Chris [Reifert], Paul [Masvidal], Sean [Reinert], and Stevie D [DiGiorgio] for making records that have given me literally decades of enjoyment. Having had a chance to meet and hang out with all of those dudes from the early Death days, with the exception of Bill Andrews, has been nothing but humbling, rewarding, enlightening and has only deepened my love for the band and made it that much more personal. So I decided to write an album about ’80s horror movies and deadly diseases, which is what anyone would do under the circumstances, right? Anyway, if you like late ’80s Death, I sincerely hope you enjoy our take on it, which is really what this album is, with all the drippy blood and inverted crosses in the logo that it implies.”

SWEET COBRA – Chicago Outfit Signs With Magic Bullet Records For Anxiously Awaited “Earth” LP This Spring

Posted in Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on February 19, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sweet Cobra - promo band pic - #2015SCMO933

Album Features Production & Inclusion From Matt Talbot of Hum And Kurt Ballou of Converge

Magic Bullet Records is ecstatic to announce the signing of Chicago-based SWEET COBRA for the release of their anxiously awaited new studio album, Earth, late this Spring. The band’s triumphant new LP was recorded and produced by Matt Talbot of Hum and Kurt Ballou of Converge, and also features guest musical contributions from each artist. Earth is their first full-length recording since their lauded 2010-released Mercy.

Recording was completed in late 2013 with Matt Talbot (Hum) and Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Talbot’s Earth Analog Studios near Champaign, Illinois, mixed by Ballou at his Godcity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and with final mastering by Carl Saff. Earth shows the band hungrier than ever, with the trusted and infectious ferocity fans will expect as well as a slick, more accessible approach.

Issued Magic Bullet Records owner Brent Eyestone on getting hooked by the material on Earth, even before its final mastering, “Holy hell… it’s completely badass! Kind of a new sound for the band; catchier, and I can see the appeal of the sound being much broader than their previous output. I get similar feelings from the best Queens of the Stone Age, Quicksand, and Young Widows records… super catchy slabs of heaviness.”

_______________________

The members of SWEET COBRA collectively offered a humble statement on the signing with Magic Bullet and the upcoming release of Earth: “We are honored to be working with Magic Bullet and have always felt a kinship to the label and artists they release. Earth is a deeply personal album for us, and it was a liberating experience to explore new sounds and dynamics in these songs with Matt and Kurt at the helm capturing it.”

Earth will see release late this Spring on multiple formats; stand by in the coming weeks for an official street date, additional insight and audio samples from the LP. Also watch for SWEET COBRA tour dates throughout the year, including an already sold-out show with Hum in Grand Rapids on April 25th.

SWEET COBRA – Tour Dates:

3/27/2015 Drunken Donut – Joliet, IL

3/28/2015 Melody Inn – Indianapolis, IN w/ Kvlthammer

4/04/2015 The Burlington – Chicago, IL w/ Auxes

4/25/2015 Pyramid Scheme – Grand Rapids, MI w/ Hum, Cloakroom (SOLD OUT)

The dedication of its members and the band’s storied lineage has helped make SWEET COBRA a household name to fans of bold rock and post-hardcore internationally, and a staple within the bustling music scene of their hometown of Chicago. Founded in 2003 by former members of a wide array of notable underground acts and boasting the fury and angular qualities of their hardcore/noise-rock/metal roots with a more straightforward rock rhythm and delivery, the band came into existence and toured alongside the likes of Pelican, Russian Circles, Coliseum, Black Cobra, Doomriders, The Life And Times, Young Widows and many more.

_______________________

SWEET COBRA toured regularly throughout the first decade of the 2000s, and released a crushing load of recorded material, including three LPs — 2004’s Praise through Seventh Rule Recordings, 2007’s Forever through Hawthorne Street Records, and 2010’s Mercy on Blackmarket Activities — as well as split releases with Doomriders, Get Rad, and Young Widows among other releases.

In fall 2009, with Mercy just completed, second guitarist Mat Arluck lost his ongoing fight with cancer. Arluck’s death left a deep scar on the entire Chicago music scene (and beyond). SWEET COBRA committed to soldier on as a three-piece, as they began, resulting in a transformation of the band in the following years. The members have pushed forward — playing shows, constructing new material, and exploring new sounds. These efforts have culminated in the upcoming release of Earth.

SWEET COBRA:

Jason Gagovski – drums and cymbals

Robert Arthur Lanham Jr. – guitar

Botchy Vasquez (aka Tim Remis) – vocals and bass

RABID ASSASSIN – Horror Metal Act Joins HighVolMusic

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on February 18, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Rabid Assassin - promo band pic - #2015RAMO02

Horror heavy metal band RABID ASSASSIN has signed a worldwide deal with HighVolMusic for the release of their debut CD ‘Eliminate the System’. Formed in 2013, RABID ASSASSIN is comprised of Thane Farace (Ghost of War) vocals/guitar, Chad Bedsaul – guitar, Dan Delaney – bass, and Corey Brooks – drums.

Plotting their course of mayhem, RABID ASSASSIN gave fans an early taste of what was to come during their live shows. The band has already shared the stage with metal acts such as Raven, Generation Kill, Metal Mike Chlasciak, Michael Angelo Batio, Reverence and Resistence. After cutting their teeth in the mid-atlantic and fine tuning their sound, the band entered the studio with renowned producer Drew Mazurek to record ‘Eliminate the System’.

RABID ASSASSIN has already gained the attention of strong industry players such as Epiphone, Wornstar Clothing, Jagermeister, Pig Hog Cables, Red Beard Leather, Steve Clayton, Ernie Ball, and Deville Ink Tattoo who are all endorsers and/or sponsors of the band.

Strong believers in the U.S. Constitution, ‘Eliminate the System’ takes on the challenging issues that plague the world today. “The songs are straight forward and hit on topics that everybody can relate to but which most are scared to talk about. It runs the gamut of everything that is messed up in the world today. The CD is a testimony of all the hard work that the band has done.” says frontman Thane Farace.

“This project is something very different for HighVolMusic and I was excited that Thane contacted me about working with him. RABID ASSASSIN in its simplest form is just great heavy metal and diversifies the label.”Bill Chavis CEO HighVolMusic

‘Eliminate the System’ is set for a late May release but the band is holding a special private CD release party April 11th at The Ballroom in Waynesboro, PA.
