In celebration of the one-year anniversary of The Last Will and Testament, OPETH is proud to unveil a brand-new animated video crafted to bring the album’s intricate story to life. Created by Absynthe Moon Media, the film offers a visual interpretation of the narrative that has intrigued fans since the record’s release in November 2024.

Watch the new ‘§3’ animated video here: https://youtu.be/Xx3sVo9jPX4

The animated music video for §3“returns to the central family story at the heart of the album. Set during the reading of a 1920s patriarch’s will, the video captures the shifting relationships and subtle tensions that shape the storyline, while allowing viewers to interpret the finer details for themselves.

Guided by Mikael Åkerfeldt’s story and concept, the visual narrative enhances the album’s core themes: identity fractured by lies, legacies built on instability, and the slow unraveling of those who once believed they understood their place within the family. The result is a stirring and immersive complement to one of OPETH’s most ambitious works.

ORDEN OGAN Unleash New Single “Conquest” (Live In Oberhausen), While Touring With WINDROSE and ANGUS MCSIX

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on October 1, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

German dark power metal force ORDEN OGAN have dropped a thunderous new live version of their fan-favorite track “Conquest”, taken from their latest full-length The Order Of Fear, released in July 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music.

Recorded during the band’s Tour of Fear in the sold-out Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, Germany, this version captures the raw intensity and electric communion between the band and their audience. “Conquest” has quickly risen to become a staple in the ORDEN OGAN setlist, and this live cut shows exactly why: riffs sharp as steel, massive choruses, and a crowd roaring as one. ORDEN OGAN once again prove that true power metal lives on stage: loud, larger than life, and unforgettable!

Frontman Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann states:

“’Conquest’ has become one of the absolute fan favorites within the last 12 months since the release of The Order of Fear. This recording was captured in the sold-out Turbinenhalle (Oberhausen, Germany) on ORDEN OGAN’s Tour of Fear. I think we managed to capture the energy between band and audience. Enjoy!”

OPETH – Present Official “§1” Band Performance Video

Swedish 2025 Grammy winners OPETH are pleased to unveil a full-on band performance video for “§1.” The track is taken from their current success album The Last Will And Testament (released on November 22, 2024 through Moderbolaget / Reigning Phoenix Music), which was highly praised by press and fans alike and saw frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt return to growling vocal territory for the first time in 16 years. Their new material has additionally been warmly welcomed during their ongoing world tour, which is why the video arrives right in time as their touring cycle commences at the legendary Sweden Rock Festival.

Mikael Åkerfeldt (vocals, guitars) Joakim Svalberg (keys, backing vocals),
Fredrik Åkesson (guitars, backing vocals)

Åkerfeldt states“So here’s a video (of sorts) for your enjoyment. We had requests left, right & centre to do one of them measly ‘lyric videos’ or ‘visualizers’ for content. Now, right there are three words I despise! I’ve made it clear in our circle of trust that we shouldn’t use the word ‘content’ even if that’s exactly what we’re working on. We’re not some goddamn influencers, now are we? So can we please settle on the old-fashioned word ‘video’ without meddling with modern online lingo? And a video is what it really is. A performance video, no less. We figured it’s a bit more happening to look at (should you decide to do so) than a lyric video. ‘§1’ is the opener on “The Last Will And Testament.” A good song. I like it! The video looks good. As good as it can look when involving 5 middle-aged, slightly hungover geezers miming along to something. We shot it in some industrial area in Birmingham (UK) on the latest Euro tour. Everyone (well, the band and crew) were quite eager to get out of there as we had dinner planned at a fancy curry house locally. Much thanks to Ash Pears and ASH TV, who were really professional (ie: quick!) and made the whole experience rather easy on us. Hope you dig it, people!”

SACRIFICE – Canadian Thrash Metal Kingpins Announce Rare 2025 Live Performances In Support Of Acclaimed Volume Six LP – Out Now On Cursed Blessings Records

With the dust still settling following the release of their acclaimed Volume Six LP on Cursed Blessings Records in February, Ontario thrash metal veterans SACRIFICE have sanctioned several rare live performances this year in support of the album.

Already announced earlier this year is the rapidly approaching Modified Ghost Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia May 17th, where SACRIFICE will headline with support from Anciients, Bewitcher, and more, which will serve as the official release show for Volume Six

SACRIFICE now expands the year’s live schedule with two more performances, including the band’s first hometown show in nine years – which also serves as their Toronto album release show, headlining The Concert Hall in Toronto on October 11th. SACRIFICE has also been added to the Chile Terrorfest in Santiago, Chile on December 6th with Triptikon, E-Force, and more.

SACRIFICE Live:
5/17/2025 Modified Ghost VII Festival @ Rickshaw Theatre – Vancouver BC w/ Anciients, Bewitcher, more
10/11/2025 The Concert Hall – Toronto ON [tickets]
12/06-07/2025 Chile Terrorfest @ Teatro Caupolicán – Santiago, CL w/ Triptikon, E-Force, more

SACRIFICE’s sixth album, and first in over sixteen years, Volume Six features ten new originals and a cover paying homage to the Toronto scene from which they originally emerged. The songs on Volume Six run the gamut from speedy, breakneck thrash (“Comatose,” “Explode,” “We Will Not Survive”) to more nuanced, layered, metallic compositions (“Underneath Millenia,” “Your Hunger For War”).

Two instrumental tracks on the album show yet another side of the band’s songwriting while still clearly being SACRIFICE songs: “Lunar Eclipse” is a showcase for Rico and Urbinati’s excellent twin guitar leads, while “Black Hashish” is SACRIFICE at their most psychedelic. The album’s final track, “Trapped In A World,” is a cover of ‘80s Toronto hardcore band Direct Action, a group that had a massive influence on the members of SACRIFICE during their formative years. The song features guest vocals by Youth Youth Youth vocalist and Toronto music legend Brian Taylor, who operated the Diabolic Force label in the eighties and produced the band’s first three albums, bringing everything full-circle three decades later with his appearance here.

Working once again with engineer Darius Szczepaniak – who was also at the helm for SACRIFICE’s 2009 effort The Ones I CondemnVolume Six was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Phase One Studios.

Stream SACRIFICE’s Volume Six everywhere including Bandcamp HERE, and watch the lyric videos for “Missile” HERE and “Antidote Of Poison” HERE.

Tracked over a period of sessions between September 2023 and May 2024, the record was produced by vocalist/guitarist Rob Urbinati and features the band’s original lineup, with lead guitarist Joe Rico, bassist Scott Watts and drummer Gus Pynn. They are one of, if not the only, 1980s thrash band that still has its original lineup intact and playing together, and on Volume Six, the band hits it out of the park. The stunning front cover artwork for Volume Six was painted by Propagandhi bassist and lifelong SACRIFICE fan Todd Kowalski.

Volume Six is out now on all digital platforms including Bandcamp HERE and on CD, MC, and LP in Blue, White, and Black variants through the Cursed Blessings Records webshop HERE. The record is available in Europe, Asia, and Australia through High Roller Records.

Helsinki-based doom metal band Denigrate released their fourth full length album titled To the Goddess Unknown on November 29th 2024. In the beginning of March 2025 their founding member, guitarist and main composer of Denigrate Seppo Nummela passed away suddenly. Their new music video was filmed earlier and now it’s finished and released to honor the memory of Seppo.

Watch the music video here: https://youtu.be/h0MxKRh13WE

Denigrate’s Singer Galzi tells about the Song and the music video:

“In The Light was one of the first compositions for the album “To The Goddess Unknown” -the last individual of the album release as a music video. Also the song was the only one from the album that kept its’ work name from the beginning until completion. We wanted to make this a proper art-and-headbanging-video to underline the sheer joy of doing what we do. Huge thanks goes to Markus Saarela for capturing the moments.

Though the song tells about taking and giving nothing in return, there dwells a glimpse of hope for a change at the end. This we will dedicate to the memory of our key-member, the founder of Denigrate, Seppo Nummela. We’ll keep carrying the torch, don’t you worry brother!”

Track-list:

COFFIN STORM – Unveil New Video For 10 Minute Epic “Open The Gallows”

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal bands, Metal, metal albums, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on March 7, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

TAKEN FROM THE 2024 DEBUT OFFERING ARCANA RISING

WATCH THE NEW VIDEO FOR ‘OPEN THE GALLOWS’

Norwegian heavy metal trio Coffin Storm have unveiled a brand-new video today for their blistering track ‘Open The Gallows’. The 10 minute epic, taken from their 2024 debut album Arcana Rising, comes alongside a brilliant new video by Matthew Vickerstaff steeped in medieval and supernatural brutality.

Featuring Kolbotn veterans Apollyon (Aura Noir, Lamented Souls) and Bestial Tormentor (Infernö, Lamented Souls), the lineup is completed by Fenriz of Darkthrone on vocals.

Speaking on the new video and his inspiration behind the track, Apollyon said, “Open The Gallows is the longest track I have ever made. Initially we were thinking instrumental old Metallica style with loads of guitar melodies and shit. Apart from the opening/ending though, there’s not much Metallica in there. The main riff is Kreator-inspired if anything. Fortunately, we ended up having Fenriz sing on it after all because the vocal lines are amazing.

This being an all Kolbotn project we invited Arild from Obliteration/Abhorration/Necromantheon/Black Viper to do a legendary long-ass guitar lead as well.

Either way I thought the song deserved a video and Mr Matthew Vickerstaff came up with this idea to use clips from old B-movies. He did a fantastic job with collecting and editing, making it an exciting 10 minutes plus watch. Enjoy!”

On the prospect of new material in the future, Apollyon says:

“Arcana Rising seemed to go down really well with people, and we have plenty of material left in the vaults for an album number two, and always new ideas coming also, so work is progressing slowly but surely amid all the other things we have going on currently. Keep your eyes peeled!”

Metal Hammer – “When riffs are this good, why not draw them out a bit? A career-best performance”

Powerplay – 10/10 “nothing less than greatness”

Metal Talk – “Coffin Storm’s debut is an album that every fan of Doom-tinged Metal should hear”

Metal Sucks – 4.5/5 – “Coffin Storm have created a whopper of an album …. This one comes highly recommended”

ARCANA RISING IS OUT NOW ON ORANGE VINYL, BLACK VINYL, CD & DIGITALLY

The Loss of Beauty is Shores Of Null’s fourth album and follows the acclaimed “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)”, unanimously considered by fans and critics as one of the Doom Metal gems of recent years. The lyrics celebrate beauty in imperfection and transience and are meant to be an invitation to seek beauty in little things, especially those unexpected and ephemeral.

Stylistically, The Loss of Beauty continues along the sulcus set forth by “Quiescence” and “Black Drapes For Tomorrow”, its melancholic dark metal with a wide range of influences, from gothic metal to doom metal and melodic black/death metal, with frequent use of vocal harmonies and deep growls.

The album consists of 13 songs, while the LP version only contains 11, the two extra tracks are bonus tracks that can be found on the CD version as well as on the streaming platforms. Dark and heavy, tinged with feelings of despair and melancholy, The Loss Of Beauty was released on March 24th, 2023, and is recommended for fans of Swallow The Sun, Borknagar, and Paradise Lost.

A SCAR FOR THE WICKED – Unveil New Guitar Playthrough Video for “Drowned In Gluttony”

Posted in Death Metal, deathcore, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on February 28, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Canadian deathcore band, A Scar For The Wicked (ASFTW), have released a new guitar playthrough video for their latest track “Drowned In Gluttony,” off their 2024 album, Acolythus. This release follows the album’s success which hit the shelves last November 7th, and it continues to deliver the intense and raw energy that the band is known for.

The playthrough video, featuring the song’s third track, captures the thematic essence of gluttony and madness depicted in the song’s lyrics. It tells the haunting tale of a literary writer consumed by his past terrors, using Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling line, “I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity,” to portray his dark descent into insanity. The video showcases the band’s guitarists blindfolded, a testament to their exceptional skill and the song’s intense emotion. Their blindfolded performance not only highlights their technical mastery but also adds a visual depth to the themes of blindness and madness that pervade the track.

Musically, “Drowned In Gluttony” kicks off with a potent, heavy riff setting a somber and powerful tone. It progresses into intricate guitar work and concludes with a compelling solo, emphasizing melodic complexity and the band’s signature sound. The track’s breakdown provides a gripping moment of contrast, enhancing the overall intensity of the composition.

Fans of A Scar For The Wicked can watch the new playthrough video HERE and experience the gripping combination of complex guitar riffs and deep thematic content that the band consistently brings to their music.

Cruz Del Sur Music Releases THE WATCHER’s Out of the Dark

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on December 1, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Boston (MA) – U.S. Doom-Tinged Heavy Metal outfit, The Watcher, has released Out of the Dark on Cruz Del Sur Music. The band’s first full-length album is available now on CD, vinyl, and digital formats! Fans of Iron Maiden, Trouble, and Satan should take note!

Purchase/Stream:

CD: tinyurl.com/thewatchercd

LP Black: tinyurl.com/thewatcherlp

BC: thewatcherheavymetal.bandcamp.com/album/out-of-the-dark

YT: youtu.be/WkvBQkcVAcc

The 2021 release of The Watcher’s debut Your Turn to Die EP was the culmination of delays, false starts and good, old-fashioned patience. The 2016 creation of guitarist/bassist Max Furst, The Watcher was not intended to have such a prolonged gestation for its first release into the metal world, but the wait proved to be worth it.

Physical copies of Your Turn to Die sold out upon its release, signaling to Furst, vocalist Paden Reed and drummer Chris Spraker that there would be demand for their distinctive brand of NWOTHM with elements of doom. Alas, that moment has arrived in the form of the eight-song “Out of the Dark.”

Out of the Dark was recorded in the autumn months of late 2023 with engineer Sasha Stroud at Artifact Audio in Maspeth, Queens, New York. The Watcher went to great lengths to ensure that the songs worked within the context of the album format with an organic flow of ideas and intentional peaks and valleys to ensure listener engagement. As a result, Out of the Dark expands on what The Watcher started on Your Turn to Die. From urgent, heads-down ‘bangers to festival-ready chorus all the way to the climactic closing track, “Thy Blade, Thy Blood,” the band’s growth is readily apparent.

The Watcher will be gigging around the East Coast and parts of Canada in support of Out of the Dark (ex-Malleus guitarist Nelson Ribas and Demon Chrome guitarist Dylan Kulpa have since completed The Watcher’s live lineup.) More importantly, the band hopes to arrive on European shores sometime in the near future. For the present, though, Out of the Dark emerges as a compelling LP that unifies classic metal and the darkness of doom, fortified through the spirit of three metallic diehards who never say die.

Track Listing:

  1. Out of the Dark
  2. Strike Back
  3. Burning World
  4. Exiled
  5. The Revelator
  6. Kill Or Be Killed
  7. The Final Hour
  8. Thy Blade, Thy Blood

GUTLESS gave us one of 2018’s filthiest demos. Two years later, we saw a split release with Mortal Wound. Now, six years after that demo, we are finally getting the debut album. Strap in; this one is going to be nauseating…

Instantly they cave in your skull with maniacal riffing and unrelenting drum assaults. If you can’t withstand the might of Death Metal, turn back fast. The equally violent vocal attack will seal the deal as the insanity creeps further into the cemetery, searching for prey.

GUTLESS has that perfect blend of old-school savagery while retaining their personality and sound that doesn’t feel like a diluted version of a superior band. Snap-neck rhythms and visceral grinding warfare will certainly have even the seasoned maniac tearing at their flesh in morbid ecstasy as this short but sweet opus erupts pus into their ear canal.

If you need more convincing, take a look at that cover art; reminiscent of the 90s while striking in its own right. You had better believe the album is just as damaging as that brick. Contorting and convulsing into tormenting visions of the macabre, GUTLESS contradicts their name by dragging out your entrails repeatedly across eight indomitable cuts of sadism and brutality. The underground still has plenty of bite down under and these fiends proudly showcase one of the nastiest examples you will hear this year!”

Track Listing:

  1. Bashed And Hemorrhaging
  2. Beyond The Catacombs
  3. Scalpel Obsession
  4. Avalanche Of Viscera
  5. Galvanized
  6. Carved Into Existence
  7. Gore God
  8. Viral Infection

GRAVE DIGGER – Unleash New Video Single “Killing is my Pleasure” From Upcoming New Studio Album: Bone Collector

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on November 15, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

2025 will see German metal institution, Grave Digger, celebrate its 45th anniversary. Founded in 1980 in Gladbeck, they set out to conquer the world; who would have thought that 45 years later Grave Digger would be one of the most important, consistent and influential metal bands from Germany. With the release of their ground-breaking debut Heavy Metal Breakdown in 1984, an unprecedented career began that will find its logical continuation with their forthcoming, 23rd studio album Bone Collector, slated for a release on January 17, 2025 via ROAR!

Following the previously-released, first album appetizer “Kingdom Of Skulls”, the heavy metal titans are today premiering a video clip for their brand new single “Killing is my Pleasure”

Stream the song on all digital services at: https://gravedigger.rpm.link/killing

Watch the visualizer video clip premiering HERE

Band leader Chris Boltendahl reveals“There it is – the new Grave Digger single, “Killing is My Pleasure”… It’s based on a riff created by bassist Jens Becker in collaboration with guitarist Tobi Kersting. The song’s lyrics are inspired by the infamous mafia contract killer Richard Kuklinski, who was believed to have committed over 200 murders before his death in 2006. Known as the “Iceman” due to his cold-blooded nature, Kuklinski had a family with three children and would leave his home every day like any ordinary “nine-to-five” worker.

Musically, the new single is a piece of pure heavy metal – no frills, just direct and uncompromising. The chorus drills into your head and it’s hard to get the song out of your mind!”

Produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Boltendahl, optically set in scene by Brazilian artist Wanderley Perna, Bone Collector marks a work of art that heralds a new era.

“Here it is at last, our new studio album, true to the motto: #gravediggeroldschool. With Tobi Kersting in the band, we have focused on the essentials of our sound again after many years with numerous concept albums: Concise straightforward metal songs that burn themselves into your brain stems after the first listen. “Bone Collector” doesn’t sound like off-the-shelf stuff, but highly energetic, fresh and you’ll notice that we had a lot of fun with the songs. We’re looking forward to your reaction, the release of the album in January and 45 years of Grave Digger live with you,” Boltendahl recently said.

Bone Collector will be released as a CD digipak, picture vinyl, colored marbled vinyl, RPM exclusive splatter vinyl and digitally. At the RPM & ROAR Mailorder Shop, the limited splatter vinyl and the digipak are also available as a bundle with the exclusive “Old School” shirt.

ENFORCED – Unleashes Ferocious New EP: A Leap Into the Dark

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on October 27, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

ENFORCED, the unstoppable force of crossover thrash, is back with their blistering new EP, A Leap Into the Dark. Featuring six powerhouse tracks, this EP delivers everything fans have come to expect from the Virginia-based quintet: searing riffs, unrelenting aggression, and lyrics that pull no punches. Stream the full EP HERE

Accompanying the release is the brand-new video for the lead single, “Betting on the End.” This incendiary track juxtaposes the idea that “politicians are ‘gambling with our lives’” against the concept that everyday people are doing it for them. “It’s a spiral about the devaluation of human life in the modern age. It feels like we’re all just chips to be wagered, but at its core, we’d be wagering our own lives regardless. So can you blame an entity for essentially mocking your own behavior? It works both ways and on every level; be it an individual or an overpowered government. The house wins in the end.”

Recorded with Lance Koehler, A Leap Into the Dark is a direct follow-up to the band’s acclaimed 2023 album War Remains. With three new songs and remastered versions of fan favorites, the EP captures the raw, relentless energy that has become synonymous with ENFORCED’s sound.

A Leap Into The Dark Tracklist:

  1. “Betting on the End”
  2. “A Leap Into The Dark”
  3. “Deafening Heartbeats”
  4. “Casket” (2024 Remaster)
  5. “Deadly Intentions” (OBITUARY Cover)
  6. “The Chase is On” (ENGLISH DOGS Cover)

A Leap Into The Dark is the sound of ENFORCED journeying into new levels of intensity and aggression. Fans can expect nothing less than a full-throttle aural assault as the band continues to carve their place in the pantheon of modern thrash.

ENFORCED:

Knox Colby (Vocals)
Will Wagstaff (Guitars)
Zach Monahan (Guitars)
Ethan Gensurowsky (Bass)
Alex Bishop (Drums)

The release of A Leap Into the Dark comes just ahead of the band’s highly anticipated European tour. Horror Pain Gore Death Productions welcome Immortal Force with their debut album Mystic Seance Unrealities! Hailing from Western Canada, this four-piece Death Metal band worships the old analog metal sound, the filthiest horror flicks of the ’80s, and anything bizarre, absurd, and menacing! On Mystic Seance Unrealities, these Canadian freaks forego false trends and instead create something timeless, as seen through an otherworldly lens, with themes such as heinous crimes committed without method; dissecting the prophesied departure from life; propagation of extraterrestrial lifeforms; life manifested and subsequently uncreated.

Mystic Seance Unrealities takes listeners through ten devilish tracks of obscure Thrashing Death Metal steeped in abstract ideas & peculiar affairs and features artwork by Paolo Girardi (Power Trip, Revocation, The Black Dahlia Murder). SARCOPHAGUM – Australian Death Metal Act To Unveil Cinematic Debut LP Via Nuclear Winter Records

Posted in Death Metal, death metal bands, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , on October 20, 2024 by Metal Odyssey

Australia’s SARCOPHAGUM will release their debut full-length, The Grand Arc of Madness, on December 6th, 2024 through Nuclear Winter Records.

The album track “Feudal Futures” is now streaming at THIS LOCATION.

SARCOPHAGUM spawned to life in the early half of 2021, during the time of the plague as a new project featuring Golgothan Remains members past and present. The purpose being to provide a channel to explore new ideas and sounds in a studio-only setting.

The dark death metal realm remains the primary influence and a debut EP, Conduits to the Underworld, was released in 2022 through Nuclear Winter Records, followed swiftly by a stand alone single, “This Wrought Creation”. Now their full length debut is here, The Grand Arc of Madness. Poised to unleash a soundscape of disharmony and terror over the listener, the angular horror awaits…

Both a culmination of their already characteristic aesthetic and a whole new twist upon it, The Grand Arc of Madness sees SARCOPHAGUM fusing clanging angularity with haunting atmospherics, chaos with eerie melodicism, epic narrative with primal crush.

Mixed and mastered by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios.

Cover art by Khaos Diktator.

  1. Ritual Pillars Burn
  2. Feudal Futures
  3. Vermiform
