We are truly humbled and grateful to receive our fourth GRAMMY nomination. After 40 years together, it still means so much to be recognized by the music community. When we began writing ‘Night Terror,’ it felt special to us on a personal level — so to see it resonate in this way is something we don’t take for granted. Thank you to the Recording Academy for this honor, and congratulations to all of the nominees this year.
Traversing a forlorn sense of powerlessness juxtaposed with a ferocious intensity, “A Red Dawn” offers a commentary on human behavior throughout history as well as a search one’s sense of self. The Australian progressive metal quartet BLACK SEA OF TREES are beginning their journey to unleash the second albumCult of the Sun.
The band comments on “A Red Dawn”:
“The lyrics illustrate the protagonist’s stagnant situation before being confronted by the sun god’s providence. The protagonist makes a covenant with the sun god, offering themselves in return for power to destroy their enemies and the creation of a new kingdom. The song ends with the protagonist destroying the temples of the old gods and the slaughter of those that upheld that religion.”
BLACK SEA OF TREES: Samuel Exton – Vocals/Guitar Jan Schotting – Drums Francesco Adami – Bass Chris Schwinghamer – Lead Guitar
About BLACK SEA OF TREES: Based out of Melbourne and Victoria in Australia, the progressive metal ensemble composes their music around the narrative of their releases. BLACK SEA OF TREES formed in 2018. The debut album, The Spiritual Beast, materialized in the spring of 2023. The band’s forthcoming sophomore full-length is an exploration of spirituality, folklore and philosophy, with death metal, folk and ambient elements incorporated into the soundscapes.
“A Red Dawn” marks the beginning of this next chapter for BLACK SEA OF TREES, introducing this next album’s concept: the protagonist is chosen by god to overthrow an old kingdom in a spiritual revolution. It’s a narrative that is heavily influenced by the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, Akhenaten and his life’s journey.
BLACK SEA OF TREES brings to life their themes and concepts through dark atmospheric tones, strong full voiced melodies, falsetto and deep growls. With songs ranging from intense 8 minute long walls of sound to 3 minute atmospheric/acoustic passages, BLACK SEA OF TREES draw inspiration from the likes of OPETH, KATATONIA, CULT OF LUNA, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, and KARNIVOOL. A wide array of styles is entwined into the outfit’s distinctive and compelling sound.
Seeking The Absolute Full-Length Nears October 24th Release On Metal Blade Records
“Until Now” is the latest single from Chinese Mongolian progressive metal collective NINE TREASURES. The track appears on the band’s stunning Seeking TheAbsolute full-length, set for release on October 24th via Metal Blade Records.
Offers vocalist/guitarist Askhan on the track, “The first riff of ‘Until Now’ came to life in early 2021 and it eventually became the opening chapter of this album. After releasing our last record, Wisdom Eyes, we kept writing new material, but nothing felt right. We didn’t want to repeat ourselves. We were searching for something more honest, more satisfying. So we scrapped over twenty songs and started from scratch. It was a heavy moment. We had no idea what direction to take, whether we’d even be able to finish the album, or if any of it would succeed. We were deep in a fog of uncertainty.”
“Then one morning, while playing the tovshuur [Mongolian plucked musical instrument], I stumbled upon a sliding riff that just clicked. We kept refining it again and again until it became the final version; recorded, once again, in Los Angeles. Midway through, the track breaks into a stream-of-consciousness improvisation, wild and free. Every time we perform it, it feels like riding a wave that just keeps rising and rolling. We get completely lost in it and we love it.”
Formed by vocalist/guitarist Askhan in 2010 in the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia in China, NINE TREASURES delivers a unique combination of heavy metal and traditional Mongolian instrumentation, utilizing both conventional vocals and Mongolian throat singing. Guitars, bass, and drums collide with indigenous string instruments including the balalaika and the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), resulting in a sonic kaleidoscope that follows no set template.
NINE TREASURES moves easily from a straight-up headbanging style to the more atmospheric progressive style. Guitar-wise, Askhan infuses a lot of Mongolian playing techniques and songwriting logic into his playing and is excited for the “fresh blood” it adds to the band’s sound. The quintet’s varied approaches and universal messaging will allow them to tour with any musically progressive band, be it Amon Amarth or Tool.
Playing 100-plus festival shows and headlining gigs per year in Asia, to audiences of up to 50,000, and with four albums to their name, NINE TREASURES are at the top of their proverbial game and ready to conquer the Western world. Seeking The Absolute is their first record for Metal Blade, and first LP to have a worldwide release.

By October, the band entered the studio to self-record their debut album Emergence, which features reimagined versions of the original demo songs alongside new tracks written collaboratively. With Emergence complete, URSAWRATH returned to the stage, continuing to build momentum as one of the most exciting new voices in progressive thrash.
The Brazilian extreme progressive metal group ABSTRACTED – whose sound blends blistering technicality with melodic and atmospheric moments – usher in their comeback with a slamming new single for “Languish,” the first taste of the band’s next album.
“We are very excited to present new music with our single ‘Languish.’ This song is a chaotic trip that catches up with everything Abstracted has been doing so far, with a modern twist. Sharp riffs, and plenty of odd time signatures for all the Prog lovers out there, and last, but not least, the guest vocals of one of the most powerful voices in Modern Metal – Chaney Crabb from Entheos. Our new phase is about to begin, and we will drop tons of crazy stuff for you in the upcoming months. Stay tuned!“
“Languish” is the first sample of the group’s next album, Hiraeth, coming early 2026 on M-Theory Audio. It will be almost 4 years since their last release, the band’s album Atma Conflux.
Since the band’s core trio – vocalist Rosano Pedro Matiusi, bassist Riverton Alves and keyboardist Carol Lynn – have been joined by 3 new members – guitarists Leonardo Brito and José Consani along with drummer Fernando Pollon. The revamped lineup have been writing during the downtime and drawing in influences old and new to create something pleasurable and challenging
“Hiraeth is ABSTRACTED’s third release. After Atma Conflux we faced lots of lineup changes and that evidently reflected in our way of making music. Hiraeth, in some ways, is more grounded, musical and nuanced,” continues singer Rosano. “Atmosphere is the thing we pursued the most on this record. We are very proud of what we built, keeping the fast paced music, but reinventing what we are already known for.”
ABSTRACTED is a six-piece Extreme Progressive Metal band from Brazil that draws influences from the most prominent modern metal acts like Opeth, Vildhjarta and Between the Buried and Me. Their music goes from total utter chaos to jazz fusion influenced passages. On their upcoming release Hiraeth ABSTRACTED draw strength from the past and project their 11 year experience into a blend of feelings, heaviness and complexity. Watch for pre-orders soon.

Montreal/Stockholm Progressive Metal Quartet, Voidchaser, have releasd their new EP Trust! Serving as an epilogue to critically acclaimed 2024 release Solace, the new EP completes the narrative and brings closure to the conceptual journey begun with their debut album.
Coinciding with the EP’s release, the band has also released a music video for opening track, “Time,” featuring Québec City’s Universe Effects (Gabriel Antoine Vallée, Francis Grégoire, and Gabriel Cyr). “Time” embarks on a reflective journey through loss and the fleeting nature of life. Emotionally charged and deeply introspective, the song continues the narrative arc that concluded Solace, resonating with the raw emotion of abandonment.
Following the impact of “Trust” (featuring Jim Grey of Caligula’s Horse) and the epic “Dogma” (with a guest appearance by The Anchoret), “Time” weaves a heartfelt exploration of impermanence and memory, brought to life through poignant lyrics and evocative melodies. This final chapter not only completes the EP’s narrative journey, but also reinforces Voidchaser‘s reputation for merging profound emotional storytelling with dynamic musical composition.
Trust solidifies Voidchaser’sreputation for heavy yet emotionally resonant progressive metal. The band is also gearing up for an international tour in 2025, with more details to be announced soon.
Line-Up:
Chad Bernatchez – Vocals, Back Vocals, Rhythm Guitar Jici LG – Bass Jimmy Montbriand – Lead Guitar Colin MacAndrew – Drums Mathieu Fiset – Keyboards
“Trust picks up directly after the events of Solace. Our protagonist is drifting across the vast emptiness of space, as the reserve oxygen tanks from the suit keeps him alive and scenes from his life pass them by. The first song, Time, depicts our protagonist having to say goodbye to someone who he was very close to. The second song, Dogma, depicts our protagonist having to make an impossible decision, resulting in leaving behind someone else he was very close to. Finally, the title track depicts our protagonist unapologetically committing his entire life to someone only to have his trust broken and their sense of self be lost in the process.
We collaborated with musicians from all around the world on this EP and it’s very cool to have had the opportunity to do that. We have a lot of love for the musicians that accepted to be on it and feel incredibly honored that we made something they wanted to be a part of.
This EP is very special to us because it marks the end of a chapter for Voidchaser. We are very proud of how far we have come since the band has started, and there is nothing we would have done differently. Everything has led to where we are today and we have learned a lot from the past two years and we are very grateful for everything that happened and everyone who was with us along the way.”

Mastord is a Finnish progressively rocking project that has released two albums Trail Of Consequence (2019) and To Whom Bow Even The Trees (2021). Third album, Lemmon Lintu, is released today on February 14, 2025, exactly six years after the debut album.
A lot has changed since the last release. The singing language has changed from English to Finnish, the soundscape has become lighter and new people have brought their strong expertise to the music.
Guitarist and songwriterKari Syveläbackgrounds the new album: “When all is lost and life slowly dwindles away, a journey begins from which there is no return. “Raven” takes the listener to the depths of the soul, where loneliness, the longing for abandonment are the only companions and comfort. In this story, man steps into the enchanting shadow of the black bird and walks towards the edge of death, but not only towards the end, but towards a new way of being.
The journey is not just about letting go, it is also a journey of self-discovery – no longer in the human, but in a much larger and freer sense. Going ever deeper, grief and despair turn into understanding, and finally, somewhere in the darkest night, death is no longer an end but a transformation.
Lemmon Lintu is not only an album about death, but also about life after death. In this story, a man who has lost himself finds a new life – no longer as a man, but as a raven, doing his work as an altruistic, humble and most respectful escort to the afterlife. In the end, the raven’s song is no longer just a call to death, but the soothing sound of life and death merging together, telling us that even when we lose everything, we can still find something in ourselves that will never die.”
Markku Pihlaja – vocals and lyrics Jenni Roslakka – backing vocals Jarmo Pikka – drums Antti Huopainen – pianos, electric pianos and Hammonds Pasi Hakuli – bass frequencies Kari Syvelä – guitars and synthesizers
