REVELATION – “Inner Harbor” Releasing Via Shadow Kingdom Records On April 30th

Revelation - Inner Harbor - promo cover pic!

April 30th, 2013 will see the release of Inner Harbor, the newest album from long-running Prog Rock/Doom outfit REVELATION.

In existence since the mid-80’s REVELATION has earned the respect of many bands and fans from all around the world and are often credited with creating the Progressive Doom Metal genre. They’ve taken the very best sounds of Rush, Black Sabbath, and early Heavy Metal to  create yet another masterpiece amongst a catalog of many with Inner Harbor. This is quite possibly the band’s most fluid and laid-back release to date. While the sound is difficult to pinpoint, one can hear classic REVELATION mixed in with a dash of 70’s Italian Progressive Rock. The music flows through you so smoothly and freely, that you’re going to feel like you’re in a state of deep relaxed meditation.

The combined creative forces of drummer Steve Branagan, guitarist/vocalist John Brenner and bassist Bert Hall Jr. are responsible for over twenty full-length releases – split between REVELATION and their eclectic alter-ego AGAINST NATURE – and countless demos and EPs. Inner Harbor was made available as a digital release last year by the band’s own Bland Hand Records (www.againstnature.us/BH/) and will see worldwide distribution on CD format by Shadow Kingdom Records in April. Pre-orders are being taken at the newly revamped Shadow Kingdom Records Webstore at http://shadowkingdomrecords.com.

CRITICAL PRAISE:

“Inner Harbor is a deft blend of the classic doom and progressive rock you expect from this trio…” – Terrible Certainty ‘Zine

“Inner Harbor finds Revelation as productive and relevant as ever. Long gone is the echo-y crunch of 20 years ago, and in its place is a record proudly recorded in a basement and challenging the very meaning of doom as many people claim to understand it.” -Stereokiller.com

rivers-of-nihil

A new demo of track from the Reading, PA Modern Progressive Metal outfit’s upcoming Metal Blade debut now live!

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the signing of RIVERS OF NIHIL! The Modern Progressive Death Metal quintet, who formed in 2009, was born from the ruins of their decaying hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania and are on a relentless path of taking their music to the next level. RIVERS OF NIHIL‘s music is as dark and heavy as the coal and iron their home city was built upon, taking influences from some of Death Metal’s heaviest, most abrasive hitters: Morbid Angel, Gojira, Spawn of Possession and Decapitated, to name a few.

“We’re super stoked to be a part of the Metal Blade family! Being on a such a strong label with some of our favorite bands is truly an honor and we look forward to the future with Metal Blade.”

Go HERE to listen to the demo version of the new song “Rain Eater” from RIVERS OF NIHIL‘s upcoming Metal Blade Records full-length debut, which will be recorded with Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal) at Mana Recording Studios in Tampa, FL in March of 2013. Stay tuned to the band’s official Facebook page for updates from the studio and release date info.

About the Band:
The members of RIVERS OF NIHIL honed their chops as high schoolers in various bands in the Reading scene, eventually coming together to form RIVERS OF NIHIL in 2009. They recorded their first EPHierarchy that year with Carson Slovak (Century), regularly toured the Northeast and Midwest, and scored local opening gigs for the likes of Decapitated, Decrepit Birth, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, and Misery Index. Two years later they regrouped with producer Len Carmichael to record their next EP Temporality Unbound, which saw the band earn recognition in the national metal scene as well as start to attract the attention of record labels and eventually saw the band signing with Metal Blade Records in late 2012.

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME’S THE PARALLAX II: FUTURE SEQUENCE AVAILABLE TODAY – BAND EXPERIENCES MINOR BUS FIRE IN ENGLAND

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, progressive metal, progressive metal albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 9, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Oct. 9, 2012, LOS ANGELES – Between The Buried And Me’s critically-lauded, 72-minute opus, The Parallax II: Future Sequence, is available today via Metal Blade Records.

Between The Buried And Me’s bus caught fire this morning in England.  There are no injuries and no equipment was damaged.  There is no effect on the band’s tour.  Tour manager Courtney Warner adds: “As of now, we are at a service area awaiting transportation to a hotel.  A new bus is on its way.  We shouldn’t miss any shows because of this.  All gear, luggage, personal items and most importantly, people, are all good.  We just stink like smoke.”

The 12-track album was described by Tommy Rogers (vocals, keyboards) as: “A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head.”   The band’s 2011 predecessor, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues EP, laid the groundwork for the story behind the Parallax releases, Prospect I and Prospect II.

Loudwire described The Parallax II as ” quintessentially brilliant,” while awarding the release a perfect score.  Alternative Press said the band “continue to dominate progressive metal” and are musically “expanding on every already-top-notch aspect.”  Outburn called the album “otherworldly,” while Decibel added that BTBAM are “one of progressive metal’s most singular, unique and genuinely progressive bands.”

A number of aural and visual clips have been released leading up to the release with the most recent addition audio clips from the entire release, which can be found here:  http://youtu.be/HFTbp3UFmyE.  The band has also released a stunning, effects laden video for “Astral Body“:  http://youtu.be/u8Q9DknFFuM and a series of instructional videos (guitar, bass and drums) for “Telos“: http://youtu.be/qQZmTXCSO00.

FOREVERS EDGE – Announce New Singer And Bassist, Reveal New Album Artwork

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, Power Metal, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on August 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

After several years of hard work trapped in the dungeons of creating a Heavy Metal masterpiece, NJ/NY Progressive Metal band FOREVERS EDGE have announced the return of singer CLAY BARTON (SUSPYRE) for their sophomore album, Hereafter, as well as bassist NOAH MARTIN (ARSIS).

CLAY BARTON comments:

“When I was first approached about being a part of the second album I wasn’t sure if I was going to have the time or energy to put forward what was needed from a vocalist, but when I started hearing the rough mixes I knew that it had a chance to be something very special. Sal has always been nice enough to give me the freedom to be creative and that makes recording his albums a much more enjoyable experience. If you aren’t having fun with a project, it comes across in the music for everyone to hear. My hope is that when everyone hears the album they experience not only the music, but also experience a little bit of the fun that went into recording it.”

NOAH MARTIN comments:

“I’m glad to have done this recording session with friends, the majority of whom I’ve known for nearly ten years. It’s definitely an effective gelling of musicians, Their music seems to capture the riffs of say, Iced Earth, the length and complexity of Blind Guardian’s arrangements, and the grandeur of Symphony X. It’s been hectic finishing both this and the Arsis album. Much thanks to the guys for asking me to play on their album, being patient, and even giving me a bass solo.”

CLAY BARTON – Vocals

NOAH MARTIN – Bass

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME – Announce Japanese, Australian And New Zealand Tour Dates

CURRENTLY ON SUMMER SLAUGHTER, BAND PREP FOR OCT. 9 RELEASE OF THE PARALLAX II: FUTURE SEQUENCE

Aug. 15, 2012, LOS ANGELES — Between The Buried And Me have confirmed a fall tour spanning Japan, Australia and New Zealand with the kick-off date on Nov. 8 in Osaka, Japan.

The announcement comes as the Charlotte, North Carolina band are in the midst of a North American tour, co-headlining Summer Slaughter with a handful of headlining dates later this month.  Between The Buried And Me follow the U.S. dates with an extensive European tour, which begins on Oct. 1 in Reading.

The Parallax II: Future Sequence marks the quintet’s most ambitious release to date and their first-full length release on Metal Blade arrives on Oct. 9.   The 12-track, conceptual release was described by Tommy Rogers (vocals, keyboards) as: “A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head. From start to finish this is music we want to create, not music we think people want us to create. We create songs that keep us (and hopefully you) excited about heavy music.”   The first single from the release, “Telos,” can be streamed at www.metalblade.com/btbam.

Between The Buried And Me have sold in excess of 400,000 records since their 2002 self-titled debut.   “The group’s ability to layer long, melodic arcs over squibs of dissonance has never been more surgical and soulful,” said Alternative Press of the band’s prequel to The Parallax II (2011 EP The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues).  Revolver described the set as “a cohesive piece of art” and added “Between The Buried And Me are on a level of songwriting skill that few bands hope to reach…”

NEUROSIS – Title Of Eleventh Full-Length From Musical Pioneers Revealed

Posted in experimental music, experimental rock, Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, progressive metal, progressive rock, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , , on August 13, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

It is said that great art has the power to take us outside of ourselves and bring us closer to ourselves simultaneously. Few bands have accomplished this rare feat on a more profound and consistent basis than NEUROSIS. For nearly three decades, their music has touched the hearts and minds of young men and women seeking contact with something beyond the physical world, something intangible, something that expresses the inner tumult of the human condition in a way that transcends time and space. Something that not only provokes questions but maybe even hints at answers.

Since 1985 this matchless force has surpassed the boundaries of any genre, never-ceasing to mutate and progress their songwriting and sonic delivery, and never-failing to mesmerize audiences both in the studio and onstage. And as the anticipation from their diehard fanbase reaches a boiling point, this week NEUROSIS unveil the title of their eleventh full-length studio creation, which will manifest itself as Honor Found In Decay.

The follow-up to their acclaimed 2007-released Given To The Rising album, the music on Honor Found In Decay is both torturous and transcendent. It is the ongoing exposition of a vast internal dialogue that seems to carry the weight of eons. With the right kind of ears and eyes, it can seem like the trials and tribulations of mankind are being channeled through five individuals: Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, Noah Landis, Jason Roeder and Dave Edwardson. And yet? They will be the first ones to tell you that they are just regular people trying to make sense of the world around them.

Aided by Josh Graham, their resident visual guru, they transmit their interpretations through multiple sensory planes. The degree to which Neurosis allows them to step out of their everyday lives is the distance between one and zero, the distance between thinking and doing, the distance between this minute and the one that may or may not follow. Which is to say: NEUROSIS takes them outside of themselves and brings them closer to themselves. Simultaneously.

This next chapter in the evolution of NEUROSIS will see worldwide release through the band’s own Neurot Recordings this Autumn, in Germany October 26th, in the UK October 29th, and in North America on October 30th.

Further details on Honor Found In Decay will be made available over the coming weeks.

SORROWS PATHThe Rough Path Of Nihilism, is the debut album from Doom Metal juggernaut Sorrows Path; which was released back in late 2011 via Rock It Up Records. Sorrows Path originates from Athens, Greece and are currently in the studio (Fragile Studios) recording their sophomore album.

The Rough Path Of Nihilism has received worldwide critical praise. The track Empty Eyes and Blackened Hearts shall give you every reason as to why the Metal praise keeps pouring in for Sorrows Path and their Doom debut. Melodic and billowing with a Classic Metal atmosphere; the end result from Empty Eyes and Blackened Hearts is a totally contagious vibe, feel, sound and aura of Doom from Sorrows Path.

Doom Metal this grand needs to be heard. Doom Metal this grand needs to be recommended to my Metal brethren. A Doom Metal song and video this grand needs to be declared: Stone’s METAL pick of the day!  Metal be thy name.

Stavros Giannakos – bass

METAL PRAISE FOR VEX:

“You might be quite surprised to discover that Vex are some long obscured treasure of progressive, moody melodic death/black/thrash metal that seems rather uncanny hailing from Texas, one of the brutal death capitals of the States. Here we’ve got something well off the beaten path, even though the stones paving said path have been lifted from more frequently traveled concourses.” – From the Dust Returned

“There is an emotional depth and reserved wisdom to the band’s songwriting which speaks of a forgotten style of black/death metal; the kind practiced by such genre forefathers as Dissection, Rotting Christ or Mortuary Drape.” – Metal Army America
