Los Angeles Punk Rock Band Is A Hit With MTV And KROQ

Los Angeles, CA – Equipped with a recipe of hard-hitting beats, thought-provoking lyrics and chart-worthy hooks is the Los Angeles punk rock band, Harmful if Swallowed. The band is releasing their six-song EP Allergy containing the hypnotic singles, “Sabrina (Little Angel)” and “Allergy,” available now on iTunes. Since the release of their acclaimed debut Server, the band has garnered a faithful following with tracks appearing on multiple MTV shows and are frequently spun on the world-famous Los Angeles rock station KROQ. Harmful If Swallowed is preparing to raise their bar even higher with their best work to date, Allergy.

Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Greg Martin, the band’s lineup is made up of Josh Loren (drums), Carlos Nieto III (bass, backing vocals) and Brian Martinez (rhythm guitar). The latest EP, produced at the hands of GRAMMY award-winner, Matt Hyde (Slayer, Porno for Pyros, No Doubt), delivers an impressive range of subject matter, rhythm and sound. Allergy is a smooth evolution from previous records; charged with a fiery energy, stellar vocal chops and real-life situation lyrics.

“Sabrina (Little Angel)” hits hard at the opening with witty lyrics, propulsive drum kicks and enticing electric guitars all supported by strong vocals and ear-pleasing harmonies on the hook. The title track “Allergy”, written about an ex-girlfriend, moves listeners in a similar fashion with canny metaphors and raw emotion. The song compares an ex-girlfriend who makes you so sick whenever she reappears, like a bad allergy.

Songs like “Hateful” and “Recession” are a little more provocative but still feature the Harmful If Swallowed mainstay – head-banging instrumentation. While the track “Lindsay” has it all – catchy hooks, witty lyrics and is penned about the queen of trouble, Lindsay Lohan. Each song is a seamless introduction to the next, while keeping listeners intrigued and entertained. Allergy was recorded in Hollywood, CA at Sunset Lodge with the fine-tuned and crystal clear sound achieved with the help of engineer, Chris Rakestraw (Bad Religion).

Harmful If Swallowed quickly realized their instant chemistry and it ignited a supernatural musical collaboration. Boasting their suggestive band name, Harmful if Swallowed released their debut album Server, whichwas handpicked for a selection of MTV shows and caught the attention of radio DJ Kat Corbett (KROQ) who is an avid fan and supporter. Taking full advantage of their increased exposure and growing fan base, the band embarked on a slew of performances including co-headlining concerts with some of the industry’s biggest names such as KoRn, Green Day, Weezer, FEAR, Bad Religion and numerous others.

The band’s follow up album The Chronicles of Losing was released in 2009 and again caught the attention of industry professionals and fans alike. STATEMENTS FROM MEMBERS OF X ON THE PASSING OF RAY MANZAREK

(Los Angeles) It is with sad and heavy hearts that the members of the seminal Punk Rock band, X, pay tribute to their friend and mentor, Ray Manzarek.

Ray Manzarek is an integral part of X’s history. The band’s debut album, Los Angeles was released on April 26, 1980 and produced by Ray. The album includes a cover of the 1967 Doors song “Soul Kitchen” and was the bands most successful release. It ranked # 16 for the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop Critics Poll. Subsequently in 1989, it was ranked number 24 on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 best albums of the 80s and Pitchfork ranked it 91st on their top 100 albums of the 1980s. The title track is included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and again in 2003, the album was ranked number 286 on the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Ray went on to produce the next three studio albums for the band, Wild Gift in 1981 (also on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 greatest albums of all time at #334), Under the Big Black Sun in 1982 and 1983’s More Fun in the New World.

In late 2010, X celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Los Angeles by playing the entire album, start to finish. Ray joined the band during their two shows in San Francisco, just after Christmas. In August of 2012, Ray again joined the band for the entire show at the famed Roxy Theatre during the Sunset Strip Music Festival, playing Los Angeles in its entirety. In 2013, Rhino released The Doors/X Side by Side: Soul Kitchen, a split white vinyl 7″.

Ray led by example, from The Doors to carmine burana and beyond. He is and will always be a spirit being, adept at expanding perception. And once those doors of perception are opened, they never close. He taught me that we are the keys, that we can unlock all doors, everywhere, to create magic, to transform ourselves and power the world, through joy and love and imagination and art and, above all through music. – Exene

Ray was a mentor to X in our early days and a something of a father figure to Exene & me. He was brilliant & soulful. If Bob Dylan brought poetry & folk to popular music; Ray & the Doors brought the blues & poetry to rock music. The Doors are rock royalty. It has been a privilege & honor to call Ray a friend and share the stage w/ him. – John Doe

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – Eye For An Eye Reissue Releases On November 6th, via Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records confirms November 6 as the North American release date of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY’s Eye For An Eye. This special reissue has been remastered/packaged and includes the EP Six Songs With Mike Singing. Both titles have been out of print for years. It follows the successful release of the band’s self-titled album earlier this year. A deluxe digibook edition of the album, limited to 1000 for North America, will be available at limited retailers and via Candlelight’s official webstore. The digibook version includes extended liner notes and a rare pictorial gallery.

Twenty-six songs showcase the early sonic years of the North Carolina-based band. Far more punk than their later recordings, the album found an immediate fanbase. Amazon customers over the years have called the album an “undisputed classic,” while noting it is “for the true skaters of the mid-to-late-‘80s,” and “brings me back to a good time of hardcore/punk.”

Guitarist Woody Weatherman comments: “We were just kids when we wrote and recorded these tunes.” Vocalist/bassist Mike Dean notes, “Making that album was our dream and we worked hard to make it happen because it was the vehicle to allow us to go out and play two hundred shows a year, like the bands we looked up to – Black Flag, Bad Brains, D.O.A.”

Originally released in 1984, Eye for An Eye featured the original lineup of Weatherman, Dean, drummer Reed Mullin, and vocalist Eric Eycke. Reissued to incorporate the 1989 EP by Mike Dean (who left the band between 1987-1992), Eye for An Eye is raw in sound but focused on message. The years that followed would see the band rise to worldwide popularity with breakthrough and Billboard-charting releases Blind and Deliverance.

Formed in Raleigh in 1982, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States, the band continues to find new fans via nonstop touring.

“We had a lot of fun doing it and it’s great to have this album officially back out there again,” says Weatherman. “I had basically written this off as being our sloppy beginner’s effort but listening to it now, I really hear a few songs that hold up well,” adds Dean.

(Los Angeles – September, 2012) – The Los Angeles-based alt-punk band behind the critically-praised debut album, Movies, THE STRIPMINERS announce the November 13th release of their sophomore record Frail Hope Ranch. THE STRIPMINERS are Brett Anderson, vocalist for rock dynamos The Donnas, Paul Stinson from punkers The Radishes, producer/guitarist Scrote (Daniel Johnston, Puscifer), Brett Simons (Brian Wilson, Fiona Apple, Melissa Etheridge) on bass, DJ Bonebrake (of X fame) on drums and Holland Greco (Anais Mitchell, The Peak Show) multi-instrumentalist, singer.

THE STRIPMINERS debut album, Movies, proved the band’s penchant for an eclectic and varied mix of punk, alternative country, garage rock and Pixies-like flair. Frail Hope Ranch takes on a more cohesive musical theme, comprised almost entirely of moody alt-country ballads conveying the visual of the name behind the title track. Interestingly, these songs were written and recorded at the same time as their debut, but the band chose to save these to be packaged together in this standout sophomore release. Thematically the songs revolve around a male/female duo: “Sometimes we’re siblings, sometimes we’re lovers, it’s a little sick, but who wants to hear songs about healthy people?” states Lady Brett.

Song choice is critical to a record’s success and these veterans of the alt-punk genre knew exactly what they were doing. The album jolts the senses with “Gothic”, a spooky, guitar/violin instrumental, painting a picture of fear, pathos and confusion. The tracks continue with a cinematic flair in “Y’all Part 1” and “Y’all Part 2” which frame the album’s standout track and first single, “The Twins,” demonstrating the album’s lyrical poetry, depth and complexity. THE STRIPMINERS slow-motion fuzzy guitars, lethargic, deep bass picking and atmospheric cymbal rolls, blend with lyrics that are equally dark, matching heartbreaking refrains sung by Stinson and Anderson, “I’m still hiding away with you” and “I’m still pining away over you”. The album finale, a rockin’ cover of The Zombies’ “She’s Not There”, is perhaps the most impressive cover of the song to date, incorporating vibes, tight harmonies, and (eventually) the anger that the lyrics convey.

On October 27th, the band will play a pre-release party in Los Angeles at Echo Country Outpost. An evening of hand selected bands, chosen by THE STRIPMINERS will perform around the complex. In addition, there will be Special Guests sitting in when THE STRIPMINERS take the stage. The band will be pre-selling their new album with a limited edition version in white vinyl for fans to pick up.
