ACDC - Classic Band Logo - #10014

As reported on The Official AC/DC Website:

Rock or Bust, the highly anticipated new studio album from AC/DC, will be released December 2, 2014. Featuring 11 new tracks and recorded in Spring 2014 at Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC, ‘Rock or Bust’ finds AC/DC once again working with producer Brendan O’Brien and mixer Mike Fraser.

“Rock or Bust” is the first AC/DC album in the band’s 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings. Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on ‘Rock or Bust’ and will accompany the band on tour.

Starting September 27, Turner Sports will provide fans a sneak peek of the new track ‘Play Ball’ as part of the 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason campaign.

JEFF LABAR – “One For The Road” Debut Album Is A MUST Buy! Commendable First Week Billboard Chart Positions!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, music news, rock guitarists, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on September 13, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Jeff Labar - One For The Road - Billboard Charts - promo flyer-2014

Jeff LaBar’s solo debut album, One For The Road, was released back on August 26th, via Rat Pak Records. This is one Hard Rock CD I picked up on its release date and I cannot get enough of it in my system! One For The Road demonstrates the vocal, musical and songwriting talents of Jeff LaBar; from heavy hitting songs as No Strings, Asking For A Beating, One For The Road and Nightmare On My Street to the mellow acoustic instrumentals of Muse and Ode To Page. Hello Or Goodbye is a mid-tempo track, one that is musically and lyrically one of my favorite of favorites on this terrific album. Whoa!

This debut from Jeff LaBar is chock-full of Hard Rock relevance and loaded with juicy slices of how admirable Classic Rock sounds when recorded in present day! The guitar tones of Jeff LaBar are clear as day and darn fun to absorb! Jeff LaBar plays all guitars and bass, with an all-star cast of guest drummers. Cinderella fans rejoice! Classic Rock, 80’s Arena and Hard Rock fans of any generation should dig what Jeff LaBar has created on his debut. I sure have!

I declare this Jeff LaBar debut as A MUST BUY! Jeff LaBar has done good… real good… so good that his debut album landed in the Billboard charts on September 4th! Metal be thy name! Here is the Rockin’ roll-call:

* #130 Billboard Top 200

* #1 Heatseekers

* #38 Top Rock Albums

* #21 Top Indie Releases

* #14 Top Hard Rock Albums

* #110 Top Current Releases

Rest In Peace, Jimi Jamison

Jimi Jamison - Crossroads Moment - promo cover pic

Jimi Jamison – Crossroads Moment (2008)

Jimi Jamison (singer, songwriter & musician) passed away on Sunday, August 31st, from suffering a heart attack; he was only 63 years old. Jimi Jamison is most famous for being the vocalist for Survivor, appearing on four studio albums from 1984 to 2006. Jimi Jamison had also recently toured with Survivor. He also fronted the Heavy Metal band Cobra, in the early 1980’s. Jimi Jamison has also left behind several solo recordings as part of his musical legacy, with recent releases via Frontiers Records.

Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family, bandmates and friends of Jimi Jamison; a grand voice of Rock ‘N Roll and may he rest in peace.

As it appears, on the Survivor Facebook page on September 1st, 2014:

The entire Survivor family is very shocked and saddened by the passing of our brother Jimi Jamison. Our thoughts, love and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Dear Friends,

There is no way to explain the loss of my brother “Jamo.” Over the years we developed a deep friendship. My heart is heavy with sadness as I struggle to express the pain, suffering and deep loss. Though I rest assured that Jim is in the best of places, it still provides little comfort for those of us left behind. His voice was magic and he had a loving heart. I called him “Golden Throat” and for good reason. Jim Jamison had a voice we will never forget. It was massive and huge and yet sweet and gentle. He was a loving soul and a brother to me in many ways. I will miss him greatly.

Peace,
FS

sixx am - modern vintage promo cover

From Eleven Seven Music:

Los Angeles, CA – The long-awaited third release from SIXX:A.M., the band comprised of James Michael (vocals), DJ Ashba (guitar) and Nikki Sixx (bass) is entitled MODERN VINTAGE. Produced by James Michael, the album will be available on October 7, 2014 with the first single “Gotta Get It Right” hitting iTunes and radio back on August 5, 2014.

Says bassist Nikki Sixx: “Like our favorite bands from the 1970s, Sixx:A.M. is rooted in songwriting, musicianship and lyrics – three core elements that helped to define that era. Sixx:A.M. has taken even more pages from this book on “Gotta Get It Right” and the rest of Modern Vintage, having hopefully created a record that demands to be discovered again and again.”

The video for “Gotta Get It Right” – directed by Paul Brown – premiered on Vevo, back on August 6, 2014.

Shares vocalist James Michael: “On the first two albums, Sixx:AM established a musical freedom that few bands get to enjoy. “Gotta Get It Right” is clearly a birth child of that creative freedom and an exciting next step for us as our goal was to create something which confounds both expectation and categorization”.

Adds guitarist DJ Ashba: “Gotta Get it Right” is a great example of how Sixx:AM has set out to celebrate the music that has influenced us over the years and we truly feel we’ve made a genre defying album with Modern Vintage ”

MODERN VINTAGE – Tracklisting:
1. Stars,
2. Gotta Get It Right,
3. Relief
, 4. Get Ya Some,
5. Let’s Go,
6. Drive
, 7. Give Me A Love,
8. Hyperventilate,
9. High On The Music

Pink Velvet Krush - promo band pic - band logo - 2014 - #7791

Long Island, New York: “Ball and Chain” – a pilot track from Pink Velvet Krush, the new band comprised of guitarist Sean Quidgeon (ex Dust N’ Bones), guitarist Greg Polcari (ex Britny Fox, Steelheart), drummer Ryche Green (ex Bulletboys), bassist Steve Rivera (ex Surrender), and vocalist Doug ‘Savage’ Ramey (ex Vaudeville), is now streaming online via their Reverb Nation.

The track is also available for a FREE download from Reverb Nation just for joining the Pink Velvet Krush mailing list.

Pink Velvet Krush also signed with HighVolMusic to a multi-release deal starting with their debut E.P. due this fall.

The band returned from a weekend warrior run of successful shows. “We’ve written about 15 songs and wanted to test the product, see how the set went over in front of people. These shows were a great way to accomplish that. It was also a great way to work out any kinks for the upcoming all original Danger Danger show this Saturday August 30th at Revolution in Amityville, NY. The label still has few tickets left for anyone that may need one.” says bassist Steve Rivera.

Pink Velvet Krush will enter Tropic Digital Studios on Tuesday the 26th to begin recording their debut E.P.

PVK has launched their official website at www.pvkrush.com. More information to follow.

Small Stone Records Destroyed By Floods; Fundraiser Launched

Small Stone Records - Flood - 2014

Last week, debilitating storms dumped flood water throughout the Detroit area, including the offices of Small Stone Records, label home of Sasquatch, Wo Fat, Greenleaf, Lord Fowl, Dixie Witch, Roadsaw and so many others. Gear and product were both destroyed and insurance is only going to go so far, so we’re coming together to help Scott Hamilton from Small Stone with some of the massive expense of cleaning up from this flood. Hamilton’s support for heavy music in the near two-decades that he’s run Small Stone has never wavered and this is a chance to help somebody who’s helped us by enriching our lives with great bands and great riffs.

A recent post by The Obelisk details, “It was painful last week to see the pictures of the Small Stone Records offices, flooded out from powerful storms that tore through the Detroit area. Still sealed label product floating through dirty water, files and CDs, the fruit of countless hours of work on the part of label owner Scott Hamilton, simply ruined. In one of the pictures, however, you can also see a floating vacuum cleaner, and that’s also important, because it reminds us that more even than being where kickass riffs come from, this is somebody’s home.

Scott is somebody whose tastes and whose efforts have helped greatly to shape the course of American heavy rock in the last decade-plus. Whether you’re a fan of Dixie Witch or roadsaw or Sasquatch or Wo Fat or anyone else on his enviable roster, chances are even if you don’t listen to those bands, someone in a band you listen to does. Small Stone has become the standard-bearer, and you can see the influence it has had not only in bands going for ‘that Small Stone sound,’ but also in labels who have come up in the last several years wanting to support the music they’re passionate about in a similar way.

But again, this is about more than music. It’s Scott’s house too, and that’s why it’s so important that this community comes together to help him out. You and I are part of a worldwide subculture. Don’t believe me? Go to a show anywhere and look around you. It’s the same every place you go, and that’s no mistake. One of our own – someone who’s directly participated in making this weird, ongoing thing to which we belong – needs our help. Frankly, that should be enough to make you want to get involved.”

Donations are being taken through the middle of next month, but since it’s a water cleanup process and there’s the ever-present threat of mold, time’s a factor.

To donate, point your browser to THIS LOCATION. Every bit helps. Thank you for your support.

SAINTS OF REBELLION – Names New Drummer

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on August 11, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Anthony Hitaffer - promo pic - 2014 - #77449

Baltimore, MD: Saints of Rebellion names Anthony Hitaffer new Drummer.

Saints of Rebellion is excited to introduce the newest member to the band, Anthony Hitaffer. Hitaffer will replace original Saints of Rebellion drummer Ryche Green, who announced his departure from the band in July.

Anthony Hitaffer has performed across the Mid-Atlantic region as the drummer of Baltimore based power-trio Wasabi. Hitaffer cut his teeth as direct support for touring national acts such as The Misfits, Faster Pussycat, Adler’s Appetite, Sponge and Charm City Devils. Wasabi has also performed in several Maryland area festivals, including the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Rock Review Festival, the American Legion Armed Forces Day, Rock Harvest, the Baltimore Art Festival and Phoenix Festival. In December 2012, Wasabi played to a completely sold-out house opening for KIX at their annual Kix-Mas concert at Rams Head Live.

Anthony Hitaffer will be joining his brother, Saints of Rebellion bassist/keyboardist Jay Hitaffer. Together they form a synergetic rhythm section that will serve as the powerful driving force behind the band. “I am thrilled by this decision,” says Jay. “I’ve been playing on stage with Anthony for almost his entire life. Having Anthony on board as SOR’s drummer is a dream come true for me! He’s one of the best drummers I’ve ever worked with. His style and ability will make a huge impact on the colossal bottom end we need to complete our rhythm section. I mean, he’s my brother! You can’t get much tighter than that!”

“I am honored to be playing with SOR,” says Anthony. “I love these songs. I was in the rehearsal space when these songs were coming together, so I’ve been a huge SOR fan since the very beginning. I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the band and HighVolMusic for this opportunity. Music is my passion, and I am eager to be on tour playing music for audiences all over the country!”

Saints of Rebellion will be on tour promoting their recent album release, “New American Dream” this summer and fall.

The AJAY Project Releases New Single “I Am Not the Same”

Posted in metal music, Music, music news, rock guitarists, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on August 8, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

The Ajay Project - promo pic - 2014 - #44074

Coinciding with the New Release is the Free Single “Asian Ritual” on CdBaby

Los Angeles, CA – The AJAY Project just released the follow-up to their first single, “You Made Me”, AJ’s ode of gratitude for his mother.  The new track, “I Am Not the Same”, is a Rock/Metal piece certainly contrasting their last release. This in your face rock jam proves the dynamic and genre bending abilities of The AJAY Project. Download “I Am Not the Same” on iTunes!

The Ajay Project - I am Not The Same - promo cover

“I Am Not the Same” is a song about a dysfunctional relationship that is changing a person for the worse. It’s about that realization and moment in which you discover that you are no longer yourself, and you have warped into someone you despise and no longer recognize. Front-man, Aj Santsagi originally started the song as an instrumental guitar track, but the song took a dramatic turn. Inspired by the vocals of lead singer Vio, who appears on their previous release “You Made Me” singing in Italian, the track took a new direction and a new life with her Progressive Rock vocals. Her passion and distinct direction and dedication towards music, especially Rock/Metal, made her the perfect choice and the idea to create this rock piece was born. With Aj at the helm of the production, the guitar riffs and rolling drums were added creating a dynamic and original production.

The Ajay Project - Asian Ritual - promo cover pic

As a thank you to fans, The AJAY Project is also releasing a new instrumental track called “Asian Ritual” which is now available on CdBaby for free. Slow strings bring you in and with each chord you are transported to a foreign place in a different time. It begins soft and peaceful; if you close your eyes you’d swear you were floating. As the track progresses it intensifies, taking you on a journey.  There is a mesmerizing piano under the strings that carries you throughout the track and percussion crescendos layered throughout. Both tracks were at the hands of the very talented, VJ Thomas, who served as the mixing engineer, co-producer, co-arranger and ultimately an integral part of the tracks development.

Stuck in a place where resources were scarce, the mastermind behind The AJAY Project, Aj Santsagi found it difficult to pursue his dream of music. He is native to India and growing up he wasn’t exposed to the world of music education, but he was fascinated by its potential. As he grew up he became more aware and had more opportunity to follow his passion – and he did just that.

The Ajay Project - promo photo - 2014 - #77710

After earning a degree in engineering to please his parents, Aj moved to Hollywood to pursue his musical aspirations. He has had the opportunity to work with numerous talented musicians as a producer and co-writer. Aj has put in tremendous work toward his goal, and is just starting his journey as an artist in his own right.

The first single, “You Made Me” began as a personal message to his mother, but as it developed he realized that it should be shared with a greater audience. In order to capture the melting pot that is Los Angeles and to pay homage to his hometown, Aj had the song translated into Hindi and several other languages. In addition, Aj had the iTunes proceeds donated to ten select charities around the globe. Aj is not only an extremely talented musician but also a dedicated philanthropist with a heart for people of all demographics.

You don’t want to miss out on the journey that The AJAY Project’s new single will take you on. Be sure to check out “Asian Ritual” for free on CdBaby, “I Am Not The Same” on iTunes and keep up with all things The AJAY Project on their official site: www.theajayproject.com.

It is Sunday, July 27th, 2014 and after 11:00 pm EST as I write this post. Other than wishing the team members on the Animal Planet reality series Finding Bigfoot would at last find this damn creature, wishing for world peace is probably just as moot. What isn’t uncertain are two forthcoming Hard Rock albums that I’m gonna scrape up some spare change to purchase: KIX – Rock Your Face Off and SKID ROW – Rise Of The Damnation Army/United World Rebellion Chapter Two.

Rock ‘N Roll was, is and will forever be a perfect antidote for dispelling the crappy feelings I get when reading the world AND local news! Metal be thy name, isn’t it true for you!? I truly feel it is GRAND that SKID ROW and KIX are both releasing new studio material on the same day in the USA: August 5th! This will be the second in a series of EP studio releases from SKID ROW, with KIX releasing their first studio album since 1995’s Show Business. However, KIX has been a staple and favorite on the live Hard Rock scene for many a year; their 2012 Live In Baltimore release via Frontiers Records is proof positive of this!

Both bands are legendary for sure. I am just psyched-out that SKID ROW and KIX exist in 2014, while giving their fans and the Hard Rock scene something to really look forward to once again. SKID ROW. KIX. Real Deal Hard Rock. Metal be thy name. – Stone.

Ted Nugent - Shut Up And Jam - promo cover pic - 2014

As posted on the timeline of the Ted Nugent Facebook, this July 27th:

THE ENERGY is truly miraculous but it is not a mystery where it all comes from. Clean & sober for 66 years fueling the sacred temple with pure American venison forever helps immensely, but it is the spiritual rocketfuel of God, family, country and work that fans the fiery flames of my American Dream. Those that hate me hate all those perfect things. Truly phenomenal. SHUTUP&JAM! 2014 tour is another dream come true because of the unbridled positive spirit, goodwill & overall decency of the good people who support my self-evident truth crusade to take back America from the evil obamagang hellbent on our destruction. ROCKON America! ROCKON!! I SMELL FALL!!!

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY – Drummer Reed Mullin Forced To Sit Out Live Dates

Due to a torn rotator cuff, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY drummer Reed Mullin has been forced to sit out the band’s upcoming live dates.

Reads an official statement from the band: “We are sorry to announce that Reed Mullin will not be onboard for this tour. He’s been playing through pain, awaiting a strategic time to repair a full tear of his rotator cuff. That’s a seriously bum shoulder. So he’s going to get that repaired and rehabbed. During the interim, we’re enlisted Mr. Eric Hernandez formerly of Kylesa to help us until then. Eric came to our attention when we approached Rick Smith of Torche about filling in and he recommended Eric, who he grew up with in Miami. Eric has also filled in for Ricky in Torche a few times with great results. He is, like Reed, a hard hitter, and thankfully possesses the capacity to learn and digest detailed material quickly and accurately.”

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY is currently leveling the stages of New Zealand and Australia which will be followed by a two-week North American run scheduled to commence on August 20th in Spokane and come to a close in Vancouver on September 1st. The band will be joined by Bl’ast!, Brant Bjork & The Low Desert Punk Band and Lord Dying.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY released their fittingly titled IX full-length earlier this month via Candlelight Records. Captured by the band alongside long-time friend and colleague John Custer, IX clocks in at nearly forty-five minutes. Sludge, doom, punk… it’s all in the grooves that fans have come to expect from CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. If you missed it, check out the lyric video for “Tarquinius Superbus” at THIS LOCATION.

COC stick to the recipe that served them well on both 2012’s self-titled reboot and the follow-up EP, Megalodon: A little hardcore, a little crossover, a whole lotta Southern rock and (especially) doom metal, all stirred, shuffled, layered and frosted in ways that make guessing their next move impossible. But the band’s strategies are more expansive this time out, their tricks more finely woven into the fabric of each song.” – Decibel
