Iconic heavy metal supergroup DOWN returns with a special cover of Dr. John’s “Right Place, Wrong Time!”
New Orleans native Dr. John was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. His music combined New Orleans blues, jazz, R&B, soul, and funk. “Right Place, Wrong Time” was the first single from Dr. John’s 1973 album, In the Right Place, and became the most popular single of his career. The song has been featured in various films and television shows, including Dazed And Confused and American Horror Story: Coven.
DOWN’s cover and accompanying video, shot last March by Mike Holderbeast, comes in celebration of the Mardi Gras season and serves as a homage to Dr. John and his appearances on The Midnight Special TV series, a late-night musical variety show that aired from 1972 to 1981.
Elaborates vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, “Dr. John’s ‘Right Place, Wrong Time’ is probably one of the first songs I ever learned or knew of as a kid. We grew up in the French Quarter and Dr. John’s music was everywhere. Recording this song was something that I always wanted to do and I’m happy that I did it with DOWN. The video was an absolute blast to make. Even my mom is in it! Because of her, I know Dr. John’s music very well.”
Watch the video of DOWN’s festive rendition of Dr. John’s “Right Place, Wrong Time” HERE.
You know it’s DOWN as soon as you hear them. Featuring vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower, and bassist Pat Bruders, there’s no mistaking those gargantuan riffs, swamp blues leads, crashing drums, and hypnotic howls for absolutely anybody else under the sun. The band upholds a certain tradition that countless fans celebrate, expanding their own musical mythos as they leave its pillars intact and untouched.
Stand by for updates on new DOWN music in the months to come.

CROWBAR’s most recent studio offering, the critically acclaimed Zero And Below, was released in April 2022 via MNRK Heavy. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Duane Simoneaux at OCD Recording And Production in Metairie, Louisiana, Zero And Below is the band’s most unforgivably doom-driven record since their 1998 landmark effort, Odd Fellows Rest.
CROWBAR was created in 1990 from the ashes of The Slugs! Original members Kirk Windstein and Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod) had a vision to move away from the trendier thrash sound of that time, and create their own brand of doom metal with a bit of upbeat hardcore mixed in. Heavily influenced by The Melvins, Carnivore, Trouble, Saint Vitus and a blend of Black Sabbath meets East Coast Hardcore.
CROWBAR set out to create an original sound which has become influential to many bands over the last 36 years. Windstein is the only original member and has helped carry the band through numerous lineups and twelve critically acclaimed albums.
Portuguese power duo SOUL OF ANUBIS will release their new album, Ritual, on February 20th, 2026 via Time To Kill Records. After more than a decade of intense activity, relentless touring and a steadily growing reputation across Europe, the band returns with a record that captures the full scope of their signature sound.
“’Incarnation’ represents the rebirth into a new cycle to enter the path of peace after the conflicted struggle in life. It is the story of a man who, after his death, gets on the boat to head towards the perfect world and who faces difficult struggles during his crossing. Along the way, he must leave behind oppression, starvation, pain and mind, leading him to immortality”.
Line-up:
Hugo Ferrão – Guitar, Vocals Rui Silva – Drums
Formed in 2010 in Northern Portugal, SOUL OF ANUBIS have carved out a distinct place within the European underground thanks to their explosive fusion of thrash, sludge, doom and post-metal. Their sound channels the raw urgency of Mantar, the primal energy of early Mastodon, and the relentless drive of High On Fire and Black Cobra, yet remains unmistakably their own, a visceral blend of aggression and dynamic shifts that refuses to be confined to a single genre.
On stage, the duo are known for their fierce and magnetic performances, delivering an unfiltered surge of heaviness that connects with audiences on a deeply physical level. Over the years, they have performed extensively across Portugal and beyond, building a loyal following through their intensity and authenticity.
The upcoming album promises to push their sonic boundaries even further, expanding upon their trademark blend of massive riffs, dark groove, and emotional gravity, while highlighting a newfound sense of urgency and compositional versatility.
Track list:
1. Ritual 2. Mind Crusher (feat Keijo Niinimaa from Rotten Sound) 3. Incarnation 4. Vermin 5. Dead Cult 6. God’s Burial 7. Human Torch 8. Unholy Tomb

DISPOSSESSED infuses elements of sludge, doom, and death metal into a commanding sound rooted in anger, despair, and political resistance. Formed in 2014, the band emerged from Portland’s metal scene with a mission to confront systems of oppression through uncompromising, feedback-driven music.
Their sound combines slow-burning riffs, bleak atmospheres, and a raw, aggressive energy that draws influence from bands like Corrupted, Asunder, Winter, and Grief. Lyrically and thematically, DISPOSSESSED engages directly with issues such as systemic violence, environmental destruction, and carceral injustice, grounding their work in anti-authoritarian ideals.
Back in 2019, DISPOSSESSED released their debut full-length, Exanimate, a searing critique of societal collapse. They returned in 2022 with the “Makhnovshchina” single, continuing to explore revolutionary themes through crushing, emotionally charged compositions.
Following a substantial Springtime tour, Akron, Ohio-based sludge metal crew RADIAN continues to book new tour dates as they complete work on their impending third album.
RADIAN’s Fall tour schedule sees them playing Female Feature Fest in Erie on September 27th as the band welcomes their new full-time bassist Carly Allman to the lineup. Several weeks later, the band heads back out on another run through the Eastern/Midwest states, with shows in Indianapolis, Columbus, Akron, Rochester, Brooklyn, and Louisville between November 1st and 17th.
RADIAN has completed work on their monstrous third album, which is being finalized for release in early 2026. Details for the album will be issued in the weeks ahead, alongside new tour announcements and more.
RADIAN Autumn 2025 Tour: 9/27/2025 Female Feature Fest @ Centennial Hall – Erie, PA 11/01/2025 State Street Pub – Indianapolis, IN 11/02/2025 Spacebar – Columbus, OH 11/03/2025 Musica – Akron, OH 11/04/2025 Bug Jar – Rochester, NY 11/05/2025 Lucky 13 Saloon – Brooklyn, NY 11/17/2025 Mag Bar – Louisville, KY
Founded by guitarist Mike Burns (formerly of Rue, Fistula, Sofa King Killer), RADIAN emerged in the Winter of 2017. Their vision to merge groove with grime culminated in the roaring, sludgy assault of their independent debut LP, Chapters (2019), praised by The Obelisk as delivering, “that extra bit of aggression one finds underlying the most satisfying of sludge metals.” Fueled by a growing response from the heavy metal community, the dynamic four-piece embraced their DIY roots, building a steady following throughout the Midwest.
This momentum led to the writing and release of their punishing sophomore album, Discordian, on Burns’ own El Burno Records in December 2021. Relentless shows and touring in support of Discordian brought both growth and turbulence, with multiple lineup shifts along the way. RADIAN’s new lineup sees Burns joined by drummer Derek Vaive (Ommnus), vocalist Corey Staley (A Damn Shame), and bassist Carly Allman. Armed with fresh material and a renewed sense of purpose, RADIAN will continue to expand upon the dissemination of their sludgy doom with unrelenting force to everyone they can.

Finland’s TRYPANON now unveil “Gnaw Out The Flesh To Free Yourself”, the next chapter in their descent toward spiritual annihilation.
Taken from the upcoming full-length Through the Portal of Flesh to Achieve Divinity, out September 5th, 2025 via Time To Kill Records – the track plunges even deeper into the band’s signature blend of blackened sludge, dissonant death metal and ritualistic atmospheres.
Dark, unrelenting and charged with a sense of deranged doom, “Gnaw Out The Flesh To Free Yourself” exemplifies TRYPANON’s commitment to crafting music that is both emotionally devastating and sonically transgressive.
1. Carriers Of The Chalice 2. Ruumis 3. Gnaw Out The Flesh To Free Yourself 4. Veiled In Shadows 5. Loss 6. Fire Pits 7. Cryptic Device
Hailing from the northern city of Oulu and featuring members of esteemed Finnish outfits such as Haapoja, Dart, and Renate/Cordate, TRYPANON have steadily emerged as one of the most compelling and unorthodox underground acts in recent memory. Their 2021 debutAmentia earned widespread acclaim for its suffocating intensity and bleak atmospheres, establishing the band as a vital force in the realms of extreme music.
Line-up:
Emil Aikio – Vocals Pekka Kivelä – Guitars Antti-Pekka Vähänen – Bass Jukka Pohjanvälke – Drums
With Through the Portal of Flesh to Achieve Divinity, TRYPANON push their vision even further into the void. The album is a nightmarish fusion of down-tuned sludge, chaotic death metal, and dissonant black metal, woven together with progressive flourishes and hypnotic melodic fragments. The result is a deeply immersive and punishing listening experience that recalls the extremity of bands like Lord Mantis, Coffinworm and Cobalt, while retaining a sonic and conceptual identity entirely its own.
WhereAmentia was a descent into psychological collapse, Through the Portal… drags the listener through a ritualistic transformation; an existential death trip that explores themes of corporeal transcendence, spiritual ruin and ecstatic suffering. The record was conceived not only as an artistic evolution, but as an act of purification through sound: hostile, enveloping and uncompromising.
This release marks a significant step forward for TRYPANON, both in scope and execution. Expect a record steeped in raw emotion and relentless aggression, but also rich in nuance and disturbing beauty.
CROWBAR – who are readying to kick off a US co-headlining tour with their NOLA comrades Eyehategod are pleased to welcome current Down bassist Pat Bruders (ex-Crowbar, ex-Goatwhore) to the lineup for their remaining 2025 shows. Bruders will fill in for CROWBAR bassist Shane Wesley, who is currently on tour with Acid Bath.
Comments CROWBAR vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, “Due to Shane’s prior commitments with Acid Bath, Pat Bruders will be joining us for the rest of 2025. We will miss Shane, but we are excited to reunite with Pat for these shows! This tour and the Halloween cruise [Headbanger’s Boat] are gonna be a blast! Don’t miss it!”
Offers Wesley, “As many of you know, I’ve recently had the opportunity to be a part of the Acid Bath reunion. I’m incredibly honored and thankful to have the chance to work with not just one, but two bands I grew up listening to. Due to scheduling conflicts, Pat Bruders will be filling in for me on CROWBAR’s upcoming tour with Eyehategod, as well as their Headbanger’s Boat appearance. Pat’s a good friend of mine and someone I’ve looked up to for years. His work in CROWBAR and Down has always been inspiring. The CROWBAR/Eyehategod tour has been long overdue. Friends and fans have been asking for this for years… If any of these shows are coming near you, go show them some support. You don’t want to miss it!”
Adds Bruders, “I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to my brother Kirk, and my brothers in CROWBAR for giving me the opportunity to step in and play again with them in place of Shane Wesley of whom I have nothing but the deepest love and respect for. He’s so very talented and a great person, and I’m gonna do my best job on his behalf for the August run with our brothers in Eyehategod, and the upcoming Halloween Headbangers Boat cruise in October. I hope everyone comes out to support and celebrate with us for a great, exciting, and super kickass time! Be there! Bring it!”
The journey will commence on August 7th in Orlando, Florida and close on August 31st in Pensacola, Florida. The tour includes a performance on the Rocks Off Concert Cruise in New York City. In October, CROWBAR will perform on Lamb Of God’s Headbangers Boat.

LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2025 – The Melvins cap off 2025 with the “Stop Your Whining Tour,” a six-week outing with special guests Redd Kross for a double shot of underground rock royalty.
Known for their crushing riffs, genre-defying experiments, and off-kilter sense of humor, the Melvins continue to defy expectations four decades into their career. The band, currently featuring Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald (also of Redd Kross), and Coady Willis, remains one of the most influential and unpredictable forces in heavy music. Their recently released album, Thunderball (https://themelvins.lnk.to/Thunderball), delivers the “most irresistible, huge-sounding tunes” (Kerrang!) and as AllMusic said, is as “utterly uncompromised and full of swampy vigor” as ever.
Joining them for the full tour are L.A. icons Redd Kross, whose kaleidoscopic blend of punk, retro glam, and garage rock has earned them a cult following since the early ’80s. Redd Kross were recently the subject of both a book (Now You’re One Of Us: The Incredible Story of Redd Kross) and documentary (Born Innocent: The Redd Kross Story).
Tickets are on-sale this Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. local time, with an exclusive artist pre-sale beginning Wednesday, May 14 at 10 a.m. local time (code: VENUS). Tickets are available via Ipecac.com/tours.

RADIAN emerged in the winter of 2017, founded by guitarist Mike Burns (ex-Rue, Fistula, Sofa King Killer).

By Fall 2022, drummer Derek Vaive (Ommnus) joined the ranks, followed by vocalist Corey Staley (A Damn Shame) solidifying the new lineup in Fall 2024. Now armed with fresh material and a renewed sense of purpose, RADIAN is set to hit the road again in Spring 2025, delivering their brand of sludgy doom with unrelenting force.
RADIAN is currently in the later stages of completing work on their third LP. Stand by for updates as the album is prepared for release in the months ahead.
Long-running heavy metal supergroup DOWN – featuring vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower, and bassist Pat Bruders will return to the stage for six special shows supporting Danzig. The journey begins March 21st in Las Vegas, Nevada and runs through March 30th in Phoenix, Arizona. Additional support will be provided by Abbath and Cro-Mags.
Comments Anselmo, “We’ve known Glenn Danzig for a long time and when he comes a-callin’, we always try and jump at the chance to play with our Elder Master, therefore I’m looking forward to the gigs! Plus, my man Abbath and Cro-Mags?! This should be fun!”
Tickets are on sale now. See all confirmed dates below.

On June 20th of last year, DOWN was scheduled to perform a special one-off show at the Inn Of The Mountain Gods in Mescalero, New Mexico, their first in nearly two years. The show was postponed due to rapidly growing wildfires which were converging on a village inside a tribal reservation in the state. Thousands of residents in southern New Mexico were ordered to evacuate their homes. As a result, DOWN played two pop-up shows in Louisiana. Portions of the proceeds from each of those shows were donated to the Mescalero Apache Nation – South Fork Fire relief fund.
The Mescalero show was rescheduled for September 27th. Prior to the performance, Blue Shendo, Tribal Administrator of the Apache Mescalero Tribe, and Councilwoman Euphrasia Platta, as well as Miss Mescalero honored the band with two gifting ceremonies where they presented blankets as a sign of The Mescalero Apache Tribe’s appreciation to DOWN for raising awareness and their contribution of funds after the fires.
Recalls Anselmo, “To play a show for the music/metal fans from Mescalero was an absolute honor. The beautiful presentation from the local Apache Tribe was humbling, surreal, and strong. I’d play there again in a heartbeat.”
Adds Bower, “When we were invited to play the Inn Of The Mountain Gods, we knew from the start it would be special. Almost canceled due to wildfires, we played two shows in Louisiana to help raise funds for the locals in Mescalero. The show was rescheduled and we flew out the next month. Before the show, we were presented with embroidered native wool blankets in appreciation for our donation which was an absolute honor. The show was amazing. It was truly a special weekend.”

You know it’s DOWN as soon as you hear them. There’s no mistaking those gargantuan riffs, swamp blues leads, crashing drums, and hypnotic howls for absolutely anybody else under the sun. The band upholds a certain tradition that countless fans celebrate, expanding their own musical mythos as they leave its pillars intact and untouched.
February 18, 2025, LOS ANGELES – Melvins 1983, the raw and unfiltered incarnation of the legendary band featuring Buzz Osborne and original Melvins drummer, Mike Dillard, return with Thunderball – their first full-length album in four years, out April 18 via Ipecac Recordings.
“Thunderball is the third Melvins 1983 record we’ve made together, and I wanted it to be bombastic – I think we achieved that,” says Osborne. “I also wanted to do something with electronic artists Void Manes and Ni Maîtres for a long time. Both of them are exceptional talents. Their out-of-the-box use of electronics pushed Thunderball beyond my expectations.”
A preview of the five-song, 34-minute album is out now, with today’s release of “Victory of the Pyramids.” Driven by Dillard’s unrelenting cadence, the song opens with an almost deceptively poppy feel before spiraling into the crushing, sludgy depths that have long defined the Melvins’ sound. As Dillard said, it’s “a lovely blend of beautiful noise and gut-busting grooves.” The album was recorded by Toshi Kasai at Sound of Sirens Studios.
Album pre-orders are available now (https://themelvins.lnk.to/Thunderball), with Thunderball available on trio of vinyl variants including an indie exclusive “Smoke Is A Color” variant and an Ipecac webstore-only “Special Mustard Gas.” The collection is also available on CD and all digital formats.
After a short run of California dates in March (“The Spring Break Tour”), the band will embark on a massive nine-week, nationwide co-headlining trek with Napalm Death. The Napalm Death/Melvins outing is the follow-up to the legendary bands’ 2016 joint outing, dubbed the “Savage Imperial Death March” tour. Both “The Spring Break Tour” and the co-headlining shows with Napalm Death will feature Osborne, Dale Crover, Steven McDonald and Coady Willis. Tickets are available now via Ipecac.com/tours.

CROWBAR’s most recent studio offering, the critically acclaimed Zero And Below, was released in April 2022 via MNRK Heavy. Led by riff lord and vocalist Kirk Windstein, with guitarist Matt Brunson, bassist Shane Wesley, and drummer Tommy Buckley, songs like “Chemical Godz,” “It’s Always Worth The Gain,” and “Bleeding From Every Hole” are unapologetic emotional outpourings, with a bare-knuckle resolve alongside its soul-searching vulnerability, reliably delivered with crushing heaviness.
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Duane Simoneaux at OCD Recording And Production in Metairie, Louisiana, Zero And Below is the band’s most unforgivably doom-driven record since their 1998 landmark effort, Odd Fellows Rest.
Zero And Below is available on CD, LP, cassette, and digitally. Preview and purchase the record at THIS LOCATION.

UK sludge trio IRON MONKEY today shares new song “Off Switch” from their forthcoming new full-length, Spleen & Goad, set for release on April 5th through Relapse Records!
On Spleen & Goad, the legendary band is as uncompromising as ever, churning out some of the grittiest sounding sludge doom in their twenty-five-plus year history. Dubbed a “doom sludge vanguard” by The Sludgelord, IRON MONKEY lives up to their legacy, absolutely pummeling through each of the nine tracks on their new album.
From the two-ton, heavier-than-anything-else riff opening “Concrete Shock,” IRONMONKEY shows no signs of easing up; fuzzed out guitars crash against pulse-pounding drums, set against vicious, misanthropic snarls and barks. Elsewhere, tracks like the aptly titled “Rat Flag” kicks the band into high gear with palpable fury and malaise.
Check out IRON MONKEY‘s “Off Switch” on YouTube HERE or listen on all streaming services HERE.

Recorded in their native Nottingham, Spleen & Goad was mastered stateside by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.
IRON MONKEY was formed in the year 1994AD in the city of Nottingham, England. The original members were J.P. Morrow, J. Rushby, D. Dalziel, S. Watson, and J. Greaves. IRON MONKEY released six tracks of raw sludge-core via the label Union Mill that were later re-released on Earache Records. During this period S. Watson was replaced by D. Berry.
1998 saw the release of the album Our Problem, widely regarded as a masterpiece of negative rock. This was succeeded by a split EP on Man’s Ruin Records with Church Of Misery from Japan.
IRON MONKEY destroyed itself sometime in 1999. Vocalist J. Morrow died from heart failure in June 2002. Rest In Noise…
The band reformed in the winter of 2016 with original members J. Rushby and S. Watson with the addition of the then Chaos UK drummer Brigga. As of 2023, IRON MONKEY are back with a new lineup featuring founding member J. Rushby and D. Berry from the Our Problem sessions and ex-Widows drummer Z. Big.

Today marks the official unveiling of Clandestine Transcendence, the latest full-length studio offering from Portland, Oregon-based progressive sludge metal conjurors, LORD DYING.
The second installment of a planned trilogy, Clandestine Transcendence picks up where 2019’s critically adored Mysterium Tremendum left off. Mysterium Tremendum began a narrative centered on a central character the band calls The Dreamer, an immortal being who wants to die. On Clandestine Transcendence, he gets that wish and explores what happens beyond death.
Woven throughout the songs, that story and its rich thematic material inform a wholly immersive listen where tension, drama, and atmosphere abound. The massive scope and melodic vocals found across the record expand upon the band’s already singular sound while sharpened songwriting, emphasizing hooks, helps push both extremes of the band beyond prior limits. Simply put, the softer side is even dreamier; the heavy side is twice as brutal.
On Clandestine Transcendence, LORDDYING co-founders Erik Olson (guitar, vocals) and Chris Evans (guitar) are joined by Alyssa Maucere (former bassist for Eight Bells) and Kevin Swartz (current drummer of Tithe). Produced by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou (High On Fire, Code Orange, Kvelertak) at his God City Studios, the twelve-track offering steps even further into the great unknown, filled with riffs and vibes.
Clandestine Transcendence is available on CD, LP, and digital formats through MNRK Heavy. Find ordering options at THIS LOCATION.
