GOZU: Massachusetts Riff Rockers To Embark Upon First-Ever European Tour; “The Fury Of A Patient Man” Limited Edition Vinyl Out Now

Gozu - European Tour 2014 - promo flyer

Massachusetts hellions, GOZU, will take their riffs overseas next week for their first-ever European takeover! Set to begin at the legendary Roadburn Festival, the band will wage a full-on volume ambush through ten select locales in the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia and Italy, concluding with a performance at Desertfest in Berlin.

GOZU will be touting the fruit of their The Fury Of A Patient Man full-length released last Spring via Small Stone. The self-produced ten track monster earned widespread praise for its Chris Cornellian vocal swells and robust, heavy rock swagger. Describes The Big Takeover of the release, “Besides wielding bruising riffs like katanas, the Cambridge, Massachusetts quartet shows an impish sense of pop culture humor with titles like ‘Charles Bronson Pinchot,’ ‘Disco Related Injury’ and the Welcome Back, Kotter referencing ‘Signed, Epstein’s Mom.’ But the primary reasons GOZU stomps most pot smoking riffmeisters into the ground are their two frontdudes. Guitarist Doug Sherman maintains a melodic touch even as his amps scream for mercy, and singer Marc Gaffney exudes as much soul as bravado.”

_____________________________

Adds MetalSucks, “GOZU play the tunes on their sophomore album with a pair of great grizzled gonads. We’re talking balls, people, some truly tremendous twin testes. The kind so deeply and scraggily forested that those epic ball-beards have epic ball-beards; the kind that require a high quality wide-angle lens to get any real perspective on… At times, The Fury Of A Patient Man plays like a de-progged Mastodon after a dozen successful anger management sessions, or a laid back King Giant. The consistently competent delivery, the thick lowdown chords, dynamic proficiency and attention to density all point that direction. It’s the kind of heavy rock that just about anybody can enjoy over a few foamy brews in a hazy basement bar on a Saturday night. And when your date agrees to take the evening back to your place, you can even pretend she’s thinking of you the whole time.”

A special deluxe edition of The Fury Of A Patient Man was recently released via Small Stone in celebration of the upcoming European journey. Limited to 500 copies, the 2XLP set comes on 180-gram wax with a wide spine jacket, poly-lined sleeve, and two colors – LP one is “clear green” while LP two is “solid purple.” Sides one, two and three feature tracks from the original album, while side four offers up exclusive vinyl-only numbers with one original tune (“Break You”) and GOZUed renditions of Simply Red’s “Holding Back The Years” and D’Angelo’s “Shit, Damn, Motherfucker.”

Tankard - R.I.B. - promo cover pic - 2014

German Thrash Metal heroes TANKARD just revealed the album cover for their upcoming new album R.I.B.. The artwork was brought to life by Patrick Strogulski, who is a student of Sebastian Krüger, the former TANKARD cover artist.

Mastermind Gerre states:
“R.I.B. continues the story of Chemical Invasion. The crazy professor is back is takes revenge on mankind, because he failed in 1987! The cover is done again by Patrick Strogulski, an apprentice of Sebastian Krüger and really hits the spot! As always with Tankard, things shouldn’t be taken too seriously!”

The band also released the R.I.B. track listing:

01. War Cry
02. Fooled By Your Guts
03. R.I.B. (Rest In Beer)
04. Riders Of The Doom
05. Hope Can’t Die
06. No One Hit Wonder
07. Breakfast for Champions
08. Enemy Of Order
09. Clockwise To Deadline
10. The Party Ain’t Over ‘Til We Say So

Taking inspiration from the motto “never change a winning team”, the guys did the recording again with producer Michael Mainx (BÖHSE ONKELZ, DER W, D-A-D, DISBELIEF), who also produced the last two albums.

ACCEPT – REVEAL TITLE AND ARTWORK OF NEW STUDIO ALBUM

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , on April 6, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Accept - Blind Rage - promo cover pic - 2014

German Heavy Metal legends ACCEPT have announced Blind Rage as the title to their third studio album since their 2010 comeback and fourteenth studio album of their career. Set for release this summer in North America, Blind Rage will be produced, mixed, and mastered by Andy Sneap (EXODUS, MEGADETH, OPETH, ARCH ENEMY).

“Something happened to us, something subliminal and impetuous,” states ACCEPT guitarist and main songwriter Wolf Hoffmann. “It is wild and scary and it’s called Blind Rage! The cover artwork done by Daniel Goldsworthy shows the beast coming over us – in blind rage – all over the planet. Wherever we go, whenever you turn on the TV, there is blind rage in the works – either natural catastrophes or man-made madness.”

Proudly representing the “Made in Germany” trademark, ACCEPT fashioned distinct musical blueprints that have influenced multiple generations of followers. They have kept their music and artistry relevant around the world and have overcome staggering odds to maintain international careers for over three decades.

The band’s 2010 career comeback album, Blood Of The Nations, debuted at #25 on the iTunes Top Rock Albums chart and at #187 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. In Canada, the album debuted at #53 on the Nielsen Soundscan Top Hard Albums chart.

ACCEPT’s 2012 album, Stalingrad, debuted at #81 on the Billboard Top 200 and clinched the #13 position on the Top Independent Albums chart. In Canada, the album debuted at #101 on the Top 200 Albums chart and #7 on the Top Hard Music Albums chart.

TOXIC HOLOCAUST – Portland Punk Metal Day-Ruiners Join Black Tusk For A European Takeover

Toxic Holocaust - Black Tusk - European Tour - 2014 - promo flyer

Portland Punk Metal day-ruiners, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, will join forces with Savannah, Georgia sludge warriors/labelmates, Black Tusk, for a European campaign of live destruction this Summer. The mayhem begins in Denmark where the trio will systematically devastate Copenhagen before joining team Black Tusk, along with Hamburg doom-sludge quartet Downfall Of Gaia, to ravage eight cities through Germany, Belgium and France including an appearance at this year’s Hellfest.

Crowned, “…one of thrash’s most exciting modern bands,” by Loudwire, “…the aural equivalent of a cobra with a chest tattoo of a double helix and syringes for fangs getting ready to strike amidst two flesh-like walls of anxious, bloodshot eyes…,” by MetalSucks, ” “a bottled up riot distilled into musical form,” by Metal Injection, ” and, “….hands down one of the coolest crossover albums put to tape,” by Apeshit, Chemistry Of Consciousness continues to dehydrate the masses with a platter that pays tribute to the likes of Anti-Cimex, Warfare, Infernal Majesty, GBH, Discharge, Autopsy and Chaos UK without replicating them. The band appeared on the cover of Decibel’s December 2013 issue and earned the #12 position on the magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2013. Additionally, TOXIC HOLOCAUST ranked in at #5 on Noisecreep’s 10 Best Vinyl Releases of 2013.

TOXIC HOLOCAUST:

6/13/2104 Copenhell – Copenhagen, DK
w/ Black Tusk, Downfall Of Gaia
6/14/2104 Underground – Köln, DE
6/15/2104 Chez Heinz – Hannover, DE
6/16/2104 Bastard Club – Osnabrück ,DE
6/17/2104 Chemiefabrik – Dresden, DE
6/18/2104 Garage – Saarbrücken, DE
6/19/2104 De Centrale – Gent, BE
6/20/2104 Hellfest – Clisson, FR
6/21/2104 SkullFest – Wervik, BE

Toxic Holocaust - Chemistry Of Consciousness - promo cover pic

TOXIC HOLOCAUST mutated into existence in 1999, when Joel Grind merged his love for classic punk and metal into his ideal band. Like his influences – Bathory, Venom, English Dogs, Possessed, Broken Bones – TOXIC HOLOCAUST offers up blazing riffs, gravel-throated vocals, and a deadly fixation on the evil in man and a post-apocalyptic world wrapped in a DIY attitude.

Check out the psychedelic video for “Acid Fuzz” HERE as well as a full stream of Chemistry of Consciousness at the official Relapse Records BandCamp page HERE. IZEGRIM “Congress Of The Insane” – An Insanely Grand Death/Thrash Album You MUST Know About!

Izegrim - Congress Of The Insane - promo cover pic

5 Metal Fists Out Of 5!

Metal Fists 5 Metal Odyssey

IZEGRIM – This is a Dutch Death/Thrash Metal band that every member of our Metal community MUST know about! Fronted by vocalist/bassist Marloes, IZEGRIM’s sonic punishment can very well destroy our Earth’s geomagnetic field and we can all start kissing our asses goodbye now. Seriously. IZEGRIM is that freaking heavy and scalding of a Death/Thrash troupe and Congress Of The Insane (Listenable Records) is Metal proof positive! The album cover artwork is beyond incredible too.

As for the subject matter heard lyrically, on Congress Of The Insane, I’ll leave it to Marloes herself, as she has previously stated: “Congress of the Insane” features a concept based on the evil in the deceiving human nature. “Nowadays everyone seems normal until you get to know them. Some freaks are here, they’re real and they are alive!” The gathering of those disclosed society monsters can be depicted as a “Congress of the Insane.”

Crushing all that comes into its path, Congress Of The Insane is an extreme gem among Metal releases from 2013. The vocals of Marloes are potent enough to be considered a weapon of mass destruction. With a killer rhythm section and scathing duo guitars, IZEGRIM have proven to me, beyond a reasonable Metal doubt, that they are one of my favorite Metal bands within our Metal galaxy. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Friday, April 4th, 2014

Kiss - Rolling Stone Magazine - promo cover pic

It took Rolling Stone 40 years to finally discover the greatness of KISS. That should be a ground-breaking embarrassment to this magazine. Hell, it only took a hiccup for Rolling Stone to know who Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was; he made the cover of Rolling Stone before KISS did. That’s pathetic. With an unsuccessful bid to glamorize Dzhokhar Tsarnaev behind them, Rolling Stone still goes about their way, as if they’re the authority on pop culture, politics and world affairs.

As a lifelong KISS fan, it’s bitter-sweet for me to see that they’re on the cover of Rolling Stone. I guess once you’re accepted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Rolling Stone wants a piece of the popularity pie. If you minus the KISS cover and KISS feature story from this issue, the remaining magazine can be useful for cat litter box liner.

Damageplan - New Found Power - promo cover pic

When Pantera’s Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell formed their supergroup Damageplan, the result was unfortunately 1 studio album: New Found Power. The late Dimebag Darrell is ultra-blazing on guitar, while Pat Lachman (vocals), Bob Zilla (bass) and of course, drummer Vinne Paul all lash out some of the most amazing Metal that was released in 2004.

I recently combed Amazon.com to see what New Found Power is selling for. Are y’all ready? Try: $42.72 (U.S.) as a new (unopened) CD. Yup. Guess what else? There were NO used copies of New Found Power for sale on Amazon.com. I consider myself lucky, for I bought this Damageplan CD (new) a few years ago, at f.y.e for about $18.00 (U.S.). In Metal conclusion, the physical CD of Damageplan New Found Power is out of print.

Apparently, if you have an enormous arrow, um, cross/devil tail on your back, which is pointing straight down to your fanny… then life must be very, very eventful for you. All kidding aside, I bought this sophomore CD, Going To Hell, by The Pretty Reckless due to its cover. Oops, I meant due to its Hard Rock. Besides, listening to this CD makes me feel like there truly is a young generation of Rockers that really do get it. Metal be thy name.

JEFF BECK AND ZZ TOP – TO EMBARK ON NATIONAL SUMMER TOUR

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , on April 3, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Jeff Beck - ZZ Top - promo live pic - 2014 - #3394

This August will see long time music legends and mutual admirers, ZZ Top and Jeff Beck on tour together for the first time. The tour launches in Missoula, MT on August 8 and will run for five weeks with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Detroit, Boston and NYC . . . (more dates TBA).

Formatted with musical synergy in mind, stops along the touring route will offer fans a full Jeff Beck set, followed by a full ZZ Top set, with a finale that joins the English fret master with the Texas rockers for a collaboration each night of the tour.

ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, speaking on behalf of band mates Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, noted that Beck has long been a source of musical inspiration from the time when Beck played in the Yardbirds, the seminal hard blues-based Britrock band. Gibbons commented, “Ever since experiencing ‘Jeff’s Boogie,’ the prospect of performance with Jeff Beck on the deck brings us into focus with the curator of crunch.”

Likewise, Beck has been an enduring fan of ZZ Top, from even before their ascendance in popularity in the 70s and 80s. He remarked, “Ever since Eliminator I thought it would be great to play with ZZ Top,” and went on to declare Billy Gibbons, “The Professor of Grunge.”

_________________________________

This tour is not the first live collaboration between the two camps. Gibbons joined Jeff Beck and his band on stage at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where they performed The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Foxey Lady” and ZZ Top’s hit “Rough Boy” together. The following year Jeff Beck joined ZZ Top in Lucca, Italy for an extended rendition of the band’s signature piece “La Grange.” This, however, marks the first time Jeff Beck and ZZ Top will have done any sort of extensive touring together.

ZZ Top, formed in the Houston area of Texas in 1969, became a huge national touring act in the 70s and darlings of MTV in the 80s, going on to sell tens of millions of records. Their unique hybrid of dirty blues, hard rock, incorporating new sounds and technology, earned them induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 with Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones doing the honors.

Jeff Beck, a native of London and two-time Rock And Roll Hall of Famer (with The Yardbirds in 1992, and on his own in 2009), helped set the template in the 60s for the solo-heavy, feedback-laden, rock guitar hero archetype. He formed the Jeff Beck Group by the end of that decade with then-unknown vocalist Rod Stewart, eventually going solo, with forays into fusion and beyond in the mid-70s. Beck, like ZZ Top, has continually incorporated new sounds and technologies into his work throughout his half-century long career.

Lately, Beck has been working on a new studio album, his first since the 2010 release of the critically acclaimed Emotion & Commotion, which earned him two Grammy Awards and the highest charting debut in his career.

Skinfather - None Will Mourn - promo cover pic - 2014 - #100

As Streetcleaner Records prepares to release None Will Mourn, the debut LP from SKINFATHER, today the first single from the album has been released via Decibel Magazine.

Southern California-based death metal quintet SKINFATHER’s debut album, None Will Mourn, bears nine pulverizing hymns delivered with calculated precision and a cavernous production, taking direct inspiration from the 1990s Stockholm death metal scene and jacking it up with a bit more modern muscle. None Will Mourn was engineered by Taylor Young from Nails, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and features the bold cover art crafted by Raul Gonzalez, and is set for digital and LP release via Todd Jones of Nails’ DIY label, Streetcleaner Records, on April 22nd.

Today, Decibel Magazine is hosting a premiere of the first single from the album to be released, with the LP’s second track, “Drown In Black,” now slaughtering at THIS LOCATION.

Preorders for the LP version of None Will Mourn, which includes a digital download, are also now live, alongside other Skinfather merch HERE.

A week following the street date of None Will Mourn, SKINFATHER will join Nails on their upcoming West Coast tour, providing support for all shows alongside Iron Lung and Bone Sickness. Additional regional tour actions, including a full East Coast attack this Fall, will be announced shortly.

Vintage Stereo Speaker Cabinet Found In Abdomen Of Bull Shark, Off Coast Of Mexico

Bull Shark - Beached - South Africa Coast - 2014

The Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas) also known as the Zambezi Shark, is commonly known to inhabit warm waters along coastlines; as well as rivers and estuaries leading from salt water. Many scientists worldwide have concluded that the Bull Shark, rather than the Great White Shark, is much to blame for deadly and non-deadly attacks on humans.

On Sunday, March 30th, 2014, a beached Bull Shark was found on the coast of Mayan Riviera, Mexico. Several tourists and onlookers reported the Bull Shark discovery to local authorities; immediately a team of personnel that included security, marine biologists, local animal advocates and area fishermen responded. The Bull Shark was taken to the Oceanography Center For Advanced Studies, (OCFAS) in Cancun.

The (6′ 3″, 185 pound, 5 ounce) Bull Shark is a male and was very near to adult age. Initially, marine biologists were uncertain as to why this Bull Shark would beach itself, with marine biologist, Dr. Doronea Valazquez stating: “It’s a rare occurrence to see such a visibly healthy Bull Shark beach itself in this manner.” What Dr. Valazquez and her peers later found that day, within the abdomen of this Bull Shark, is even more bizarre.

Stereo Cabinet Speaker - pic - Bull Shark Story - 2014

Above: remains of stereo cabinet speaker and its parts, found in Bull Shark’s abdomen.

A (approximate) 3′ x 2′ stereo speaker cabinet was found to be inside the abdomen of the Bull Shark. with the actual wooden cabinet of the speaker to be (still) nearly intact. Could the swallowing of such a large and non-digestive object been the reason for this sea creature’s demise? Dr. Valazquez explained further: “Normally, the diet of any Shark species varies across the marine life spectrum, dependent on the food sources within a respective ecosystem; only a digestive abnormality such as a large stereo speaker cabinet is not one of them, therefore, the lodging of such an object inside the abdomen of this Bull Shark has certainly caused  its death through a slow suffocation process.”

Dr. Valazquez added: “Just how, why and where this Bull Shark swallowed such a large, life threatening object is incidental. I feel terrible, no living creature should perish in such a horrific manner. Nonetheless, I will bring this stereo speaker cabinet and its remaining parts home, to my son, so he can mess around with it. He’s talented at fixing all kinds of strange shit and this could pose a unique challenge to him.”
