NJ/NY Crossover Thrashers ZAMBONI have changed their name to NUCLEAR HATRED, based on a notification from Frank J. Zamboni & Co, Inc. concerning trademark infringement. The band has repackaged their self-titled debut with the new name, which is now available for purchase and streaming at the link below:

https://nuclearhatred.bandcamp.com/album/nuclear-hatred

The debut album features the bombastic bass and booming vocals of Chris Butera and the RAMONES-esque buzzsaw riffing guitars of Robert Orr.

The album is also available from CD Baby at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nuclearhatred, and will be coming to Spotify, Amazon and iTunes in the very near future.

The band began recording their self-titled debut in 2014, with a myriad of issues and time constraints leading to drummer Robert Padilla’s unofficial departure and a plethora of delays. Two years later, the album is finally complete and ready to cause riots in the streets.

Due to the band’s longstanding drummer dilemmas, Orr and Butera have decided to go the route of Agoraphobic Nosebleed by both recording and playing live with programmed drums, proving once and for all that no band is more awful than the dreaded NUCLEAR HATRED. The band is already recording new material for their next release!

BAND BIO:

Hailing disrespectively from Brooklyn, NY and Wantage, NJ comes the worst band ever to attempt any form of music – NUCLEAR HATRED.

Formed in October 2010, the crossover two-piece began life in the ashes of Butera’s former thrash metal band Obliterator, whom Orr once saw open for Hexen, Mantic Ritual and Rattlehead at The Meatlocker in Montclair, NJ. Butera had a vision for something “so stupid and offensive it had to work.” Fusing a lethal cocktail with ingredients ranging from Carnivore and D.R.I. to NWA and the Wu Tang Clan, the original lineup consisted of Butera, Orr and drummer “Nuclear” Nathan Wolff, releasing the “Blood on the Ice” demo, the “Mother of the Resistance EP,” their live album “Live Stupidity” and finally, “Sucks! The Stupid EP” before Wolff left the band due to career and personal reasons.

The band would perform sporadically utilizing various live drummers from either other bands on the same bill or outright pulling random people out of the crowd before Butera would meet Roger Padilla at an Obituary concert in 2012. Padilla joined shortly after and the band continued playing occasional gigs that they would book themselves, mostly to “help out underground touring bands that were coming though the area and needed a show.” Among these bands were Texas’ Insinnerator and Terrorist, Boston’s Sonic Pulse, Sweden’s Six In Line and Alabama’s Cancerslug. NUCLEAR HATRED would also organize and run the annual “Thrash Bash BBQ” festival – which is in its fifth year currently.

Above: Udo Dirkschneider – 3rd from left

From the Dirkschneider Facebook:

Shortly before playing at the sold out “Halle 02” in Heidelberg/Germany, Rock legend Udo Dirkschneider was presented a “Sold Out”Award by his Manager/Booker Frank Süpfle of ITM Agency for the extremely successful DIRKSCHNEIDER tour, where 31 out of 48 Europe shows were sold out!

“It’s unbelievable, I never expected this tour to be so overly successful,” Udo comments, “It’s beautiful to see how many people walk with me on my personal way of saying goodbye to the ACCEPT chapter.”

The singer with the charismatic voice had his musical breakthrough with ACCEPT in the early 80s.

“It’s still so much fun to sing these songs live, they are a part of my biography, but nevertheless it’s about time to turn that page. There was so much talking and speculations about me and ACCEPT, so this is kind of a musical statement from my end – which seems to be very interesting for the fans who came to these shows.”

Due to extremely high requests from fans and promoters, DIRKSCHNEIDER will continue touring until the end of 2016. After the triumph all over Europe in spring 2016, DIRKSCHNEIDER will tour in Israel and Japan, doing a lot of summer festivals afterwards and then touring the US, Russia and Europe in fall and winter 2016.

WISHING WELL And GRAHAM BONNET Want To Cooperate On A Song Again

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on April 27, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Wishing Well - Band Logo - #MO9090ILMFS

Finnish Hard Rockers Wishing Well opened up for Graham Bonnet Band at On The Rocks Club in Helsinki on April 21st. It provided a good chance for Wishing Well band leader Anssi Korkiakoski to meet Graham Bonnet and discuss continuation for “Hippie Heart Gypsy Soul”, the song which they recorded last year and released earlier this year as a single and on Wishing Well’s critically acclaimed “Chasing Rainbows” album.

“It was good to meet Graham and have a chat. He’s not only a very pleasant and easy-going gentleman but also in top shape when it comes to singing. His live performance was awesome and I really enjoyed seeing him live after a long time. We were all just astonished by what he can still deliver. The band was great too”, says Anssi. “We discussed the possibility of working together in the future and agreed it would be great to record a new track at some point down the road. I really hope we can do that when the time is ripe again since now we’re still busy with promoting our album and Graham is busier than ever with his new albums and autobiography to be released later this year. Time will tell if it’s going to happen but we both honestly wish we’ll get a chance to make it happen.”

For the time being Wishing Well will continue with lead vocalist Pekka Montin, who replaced Peter James Good earlier this spring. The band is now booking more live shows and working hard to promote their “Chasing Rainbows” album.

KISS – Check Out This KISS Zippo® Lighter Collection, Whoa!

The Bradford Exchange is currently selling these cool KISS Zippo® lighters (above photo). Each Zippo® lighter is $39.99 (US) and there are a total of eight that will be released. That very nifty custom display with the illuminating KISS logo is also an individual item for purchase too. I’ve seen some kick-ass KISS merch and then I’ve seen some cheesy KISS merch; this is not cheesy, in my Metal opinion! Metal Be Thy Name! – Stone.

As a sidenote: I won’t be buying this lighter collection due to my budget. Still, it’s a fun KISS Kollectible to look at and post about.

ANAGNORISIS – Louisville Black Metal Outfit Entrenched In Pre-Production For New LP Due This Fall

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on April 26, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Anagnorisis - promo band pic - 2016 - #99997ILMFPS

Following a year of silence, Louisville, Kentucky-based black metal legion ANAGNORISIS announces the band’s triumphant return to action over recent months, as the band is currently heavily entrenched in the pre-production of their impending third album, and will be hitting the studio this weekend to begin the bulk of the actual recording stages.

ANAGNORISIS is currently more than two-thirds of the way through the pre-production of the next full-length chapter in their legacy, having finished all of the song structures and laid down most of the keys, guitars, and bass, and currently in the process of recording vocals. Joining the band for the recording sessions is drummer Cody McCody, also of Černá, Boreworm and others, the ANAGNORISIS lineup currently completed with vocalist Zachary Kerr, keyboardist Samuel Hartman, guitarist Zak Denham, and bassist Josh Mumford.

This Friday, ANAGNORISIS will enter The Tracking Room Studios in Nashville (Megadeth, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Taylor Swift) to track the drums for the new album. The rest of the recording will be engineered by Denham at his home studio where the band recorded their acclaimed Beyond All Light LP. The new album will be completed over the next month for Fall 2016 release on LP and CD through Germany-based Vendetta Records, who has been responsible for titles from Thou, Funerary, Usnea, Abstracter, and many others, and on cassette through Yehonala in Europe and Like Young Records in the US.

Anagnorisis - band logo - #MO99BM33ILMFPS

ANAGNORISIS self-released their second album, Beyond All Light, in mid-2013, the album stampeding its way into top-tier media outlets. Stereogum called the record, “epic, melodic, technically flawless black metal that is somehow also brutal, raw, and kinetic: The whole thing is somehow equal parts Dissection and Nails,” – and even awarded the record the #19 slot in their 50 Best Metal Albums Of 2013 List – and Pitchfork proclaimed, “An album of massive builds, harsh climaxes, and ambitious track lengths, Beyond All Light necessitates a monstrous finale… Where other acts might break the momentum, ANAGNORISIS simply pile layers beneath the musical heap, with the rhythm section somehow growing ever a bit more malevolent.”

Channeling Traditional Heavy Metal leads into their classic early Punk Rock approach, ZEX‘s Fight For Yourself drops ten insatiably infectious and fully unruly anthems, the album recorded at Meatlocker Studio with Paul Yogi Granger in Ottawa and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland. With a solid fan base and buzz already going for them due to heavy widespread touring and a diehard worth ethic, the band independently released Fight For Yourself in Canada, which caught the attention of Magic Bullet Records, who officially re-released Fight For Yourself with proper distribution to the international masses.

Cruz Del Sur Music has signed Norwegian heavy rockers TYBURN. The band will begin recording their debut album in November and the release is targeted for early 2017.

Tyburn was a village in the county of Middlesex close to the current location of Marble Arch and the southern end of Edgware Road in present-day London. For many centuries, the name Tyburn was synonymous of capital punishment, having been the principal place for execution of London criminals and convicted traitors.

Inspired by the likes of PENTAGRAM and others 70’s Hard Rock bands, as well as by NWOBHM legends. TYBURN features members of DEVIL, VESEN and ELECTRIC WOODLAND. In Tyburn gallows, ropes and executions are the gloomy backdrop for brilliant songwriting that turns every song into a memorable, grim, yet catchy musical experience.

PRINCE – A Music Icon Now Rests In Peace

Posted in classic rock, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on April 23, 2016 by Metal Odyssey

Prince - Purple Rain - promo pic - #9900PF33

Over the past day, I’ve given much thought about the loss of PRINCE to the world of music. Little did I realize I would write this post in the manner I did. I live for Metal and still I live for music. As I began to break it all down, I realized how immensely important PRINCE really, really was to popular music. Below, I have attempted to look at the Popular Music world with the sad omission of PRINCE, as a bystander and not a fan.

____________________________

Such amazingly sad news to know that PRINCE is no longer alive. Unreal. I truly enjoyed the music videos of PRINCE, back in the day. There was always so much going on in every PRINCE video; they were colorful in both the spirit of his songs and visually. MTV must have made tens of millions in advertising revenue from the PRINCE music videos too. Warner Bros. sure made a ton of money from PRINCE.

Like so many pop culture legends of the 80’s, the songs from PRINCE always make me reflect back to those days when all I had to worry about was myself and where I was going to party next. Like Whitney Houston, the songs from PRINCE were constantly played on the radio; avoiding them was impossible and I subsequently became a quiet fan of both of these music icons. These were the FM radio days and not the instant gratification of satellite radio (of the here and now) where stations are stylized down to a single artist.

Prince - 1999 - promo album cover pic - #MO0999INABJ

When I stop to think about it, there is absolutely no mainstream Pop or mainstream Rock artist alive today that has the talents, musical diversity, uniqueness, image, impact and charisma that PRINCE embodied. Michael Jackson and David Bowie are gone, so unfortunately cross them off your list. Please excuse me if I don’t consider Madonna as our crowning glory of present day popular music. Some may make the case for Usher, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars having the same impact as PRINCE; only I feel they all fall just short of PRINCE. American Idol, The X Factor and The Voice never discovered anyone light years close to PRINCE. Nadda.

Lady Gaga is a bona-fide legend; only she copied from PRINCE, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper and Madonna. Carrie Underwood is an unenergetic singing statue. Metallica just hibernates now and Van Halen are a pale ghost of what they once were. KISS is an iconic band in their own right, only they’ve had plenty of songwriting help over the years and suffered through an identity crisis during the 1980’s. Now you see my point? Seriously. All those boy bands that pop their immature heads out for every generation just plain suck. PRINCE was… PRINCE.

Prince - The Very Best Of - promo album cover pic - #MO099INH

PRINCE may have had his musical influences, still, PRINCE copied no one. Unlike today where it seems as if every mainstream Pop artist (and Country artist for that matter) is feeding off of each other like robotic copycats. Certainly, the Hard Rock and Metal worlds have their copycats too. Who is really left, in the mainstream world of Popular Music that leaves us all in both (original) entertainment and musical awe? The Rolling Stones, Elton John and Paul McCartney are well past their prime and God bless them for still going.

The Who lost their luster back when bassist John Entwistle passed away. Bruce Springsteen? Jon Bon Jovi? Nope. No comparison when it comes to the complete musician and songwriter that PRINCE was. With that said, comparing PRINCE to those aforementioned is comparing apples to cucumbers, in my opinion.

If I had to pick my 2 favorite PRINCE songs, they are: “Raspberry Beret” and “Little Red Corvette”. PRINCE truly was the total musical package. Growing up in the 80’s, PRINCE was an enormous part of American Pop Culture and his songs seemed to be played just about everywhere; from the video arcades to the roller rinks. I learned a long time ago that we cannot take our musical heroes for granted, they are just as human as we and share this planet with us for such a brief period of time. Rest In Peace, PRINCE. – Stone
