New CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION EP Linked to “Evan Torn” Comic Book Series

Where comics and metal meet…

Jesse Lemons, the multi-faceted mad scientist behind the very prolific one-man band CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION is flexing his creative muscles and entering into the realm of comics with the upcoming serial, Evan Torn.

A dark and twisted revenge thriller, Evan Torn follows the tale of a kidnapping victim left brutally mutilated after his wealthy father refuses to pay his ransom. Betrayed, broken and reborn as a masked vigilante. Evan Thorne sets out on a mission to hunt down those who destroyed him. His quest leads to the discovery that survival can cost more than flesh.

Preview Evan Torn here.

Evan Torn official synopsis:

When the kindhearted son of a rich, sleazy defense attorney is kidnapped and held for ransom, his father, William Thorne, refuses to pay. The kidnappers send a message—in the form of flesh.

Still, William says no.

Piece by piece, Evan Thorne is taken apart, his father leaving him to die. When Evan’s mother, Anna, discovers the unpaid ransom, she is horrified. She blackmails her husband with his own criminal dealings and forces his hand. Evan is brought home alive but shattered, hollowed out, and forever changed.

Cast aside by the man who abandoned him, Evan chooses a new purpose: revenge. He hunts down everyone who helped rip him apart, fully embracing the name Evan Torn.

A story this intense demands a soundtrack. This is where CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION steps in. Struck by a lightning bolt of musical inspiration while penning the comic, Lemons picked up his guitar and laid down a collection of wildly eclectic tracks of progressive, djent-tinged deathcore titled Scorned. Torn. Mourn. Reborn. – The Misadventures, Death and Rebirth of Evan Torn. Listeners can expect an explosive dose of metal that expands upon the Evan Torn story with violent grace.

The EP will be released digitally and on limited-run CD. A bonus edition will the available (25 copies only) with a fifth track, titled “Forlorn.”

Track list:
Scorned
Torn
Mourn
Reborn (instrumental)
Forlorn (Bonus track on limited-edition CD only)

Both the comic and EP are set for a May 2026 release.

About CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION:

CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION is the brainchild of Jesse Lemons, a one-man collision of heavy metal, industrial chaos, and raw emotion. Every scream, riff, and mix comes straight from his home studio. No band, no budget, no limits.

The project began over a decade ago, when Jesse wrote a batch of melodic deathcore songs with no lyrics, no vocals, and no idea what they’d become. Life took a hard turn. Grief, addiction, silence and the music sat untouched for years. When he returned, clean and clear-headed, he found himself collaborating with his younger self, finishing what they started together.

Now, CRANIAL RAT INFESTATION exists somewhere between past and present, where rage meets reflection, and noise becomes therapy. Each release blends heaviness with atmosphere, brutality with vulnerability. It’s not about touring or fame; it’s about craft, catharsis, and creation for its own sake — proof that you can rebuild from ruin and still make something that screams.

THE JOTUNN Announce New Single “The Departure” From Physical Release of Summoner

Posted in deathcore, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on February 2, 2026 by Metal Odyssey

Melodic deathcore band THE JOTUNN have released their newest single, “The Departure,” the final track on the upcoming physical edition of their album Summoner, available now. The song serves as both a closing statement for this chapter of the band and a powerful step toward what comes next.

Originally introduced as a three-song release, Summoner Part I established the foundation of the band’s current era. The physical edition expands the album with Part II, which includes “Blood Flower,” the band’s cover of “Suicide Nation,” and now the intense and cinematic closer, “The Departure.”

The track was recorded in Michigan with producer Josh Wickman, known for his work with WITHIN THE RUINS, KING 810 and WAKING THE CADAVER. The result is a sharpened and fully realized version of THE JOTUNN’s sound, combining punishing heaviness with dark melody and atmosphere. The song highlights a band that has refined its identity and emerged stronger than ever.

The Jötunn – The Departure (Official Music Video): https://youtu.be/mAoozDWc9aQ

An official video for “The Departure” was filmed by Tom Stumpf, who also worked on the band’s previous two records. The visual continues THE JOTUNN’s tradition of pairing their music with unsettling and cinematic imagery that deepens the emotional impact of their work.

Lyrically, “The Departure” explores the disturbed mind of Ed Gein, focusing on psychological horror and mental unraveling rather than glorification. The band uses the story as a narrative lens to examine darkness, instability, and inner torment, matching the song’s intense and oppressive atmosphere.

With this release, THE JOTUNN bring the Summoner era to a powerful close while signaling a new beginning. “The Departure” represents the band at its most focused and evolved, offering a glimpse of an even heavier and more ambitious future.

About THE JOTUNN:
Based out of Cleveland and Columbus Ohio, THE JOTUNN formed in 2021 after guitarist and songwriter Shawn Kahan presented a number of demos to Paul Kahan. Soon producer Cole Martinez (ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, WHITECHAPEL, ABORTED) was on board taking up the role of bassist and producer of their music.

Nick Amato (ATOMIC WITCH) performed drums on the band’s debut album Graveworshipper (2022), prior to Adam Biats joining the line-up. The outfit was awarded the Columbus Artist Grant in 2023, and subsequently in 2025. Cole left the band in June 2025 on good terms, leading to the arrival of Leo Debevc on guitar and Londyn Snow on bass.

BURIAL PATH – Transforms in Fire on New Single “Magnum Opus”

Posted in deathcore, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on October 2, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Emerging from the crucible of reinvention, BURIAL PATH, one of the most electrifying voices in the deathcore underground, has released their latest single Magnum Opus.”

Watch “Magnum Opus” Here: https://youtu.be/oOg_XESjhiw

From the opening surge to its final resonance, “Magnum Opus” embodies the transformative journey of the self: from destruction, to dissolution, to rebirth in gold. It is a sonic alchemy that combines visceral intensity with hauntingly ethereal soundscapes, evoking both the brutality of collapse and the beauty of transcendence.

“From flame to form, the self dissolves and reignites. Gold flows where the old self burned. The great work begins,” the band declares.

The single’s lyrics delve deep into themes of ego death, purification, and rebirth, drawing on esoteric imagery:

‘Calcination, a rebirth takes hold,
Through vitriol these veins flow of gold.
Ego death, reflection, unification within the cycle…’

With “Magnum Opus” BURIAL PATH continues to redefine deathcore, expanding the genre’s boundaries with both philosophical depth and sonic ferocity. The track serves not only as a declaration of artistic evolution but also as a ritualistic invocation, a call to embrace transformation in all its violent, radiant beauty.

About BURIAL PATH:

Formed in 2023, BURIAL PATH consists of Aïcha Finnleikr (vocals) and Jack B (guitar) from Texas, and Nebraskan Matthew McClure (guitar). Their sound is a refined evolution of Deathcore, leveraging modern production to craft an atmosphere that is both entrancing and resonant, designed to evoke deep emotions and provoke thoughtful introspection through their music.

Formed in the shadow of COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Deadwood quickly carved out a place in the heavy scene with their dark, unrelenting sound. The lineup unites seasoned veterans: guitarist Fred (ex-The Plasmarifle, ex-Ion Dissonance), guitarist Stéphane (ex-Nova Spei, Iron Maiden tribute), drummer Charles (ex-Dismayd, Discovrey Through Tourment), and vocalist Derek, reuniting with Fred after a decade since their days in Malaga.

Drawing from the ferocity of Meshuggah, the brutality of Whitechapel and the groove-driven power of Pantera, Deadwood deliver crushing riffs and haunting atmospheres steeped in true dark histories, from the Salem witch trials to the reign of Jack the Ripper.

Their catalog includes the EP Nemesis (2022), EP Inhuman (2023), and standout singles “Straightblade” (June 2023), “Djinn Pitts” (March 2024), and “Heretic” (April 2025). Known for their commanding live presence, Deadwood has toured Japan with Humanity’s Last Breath and DVRK, stormed U.S. stages in 2025, opened twice for Born of Osiris in Montréal, and shook the grounds of Inkcarceration Festival 2025.

Progressive deathcore behemoths WITHIN THE RUINS today present the instrumental edition of their critically adored Phenomena II full-length.

Bassist Paolo Galang comments, “Instrumental versions were initially included with our Phenomena II vinyl releases. We’re stoked to finally share these versions to everyone else who couldn’t pick up a copy. We know WITHIN THE RUINS fans love a good instrumental! Make sure to grab tickets to one of these August shows and let’s hang out!”

WITHIN THE RUINS has booked a short run of live dates surrounding their performance at Michigan Metal Fest 2025. The journey begins August 20th in Albany, New York and runs through August 24th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Support will be provided by Ov Sulfur. See all confirmed shows below.

Evolution drives longevity. WITHIN THE RUINS relentlessly pushes forward, incinerating complacency and innovating out of its ashes. The Western Massachusetts quartet of Joe Cocchi (guitar), Kevin McGuill (drums), Paolo Galang (bass, clean vocals), and Steve Tinnon (lead vocals), razes convention with a sonic sensory onslaught anchored by polyrhythmic bludgeoning, head-nodding grooves, viscerally evocative vocals, and vivid storytelling.

Their controlled chaos has resulted in tens of millions of streams (a rarity for acts this uncompromisingly heavy), packed houses on tour, and widespread acclaim courtesy of Alternative Press, American Songwriter, Loudwire, Metal Injection, Phoenix New Times, and many more.

2024’s Phenomena II serves as the sequel to the WITHIN THE RUINS’ lauded Phenomena full-length. “We had written a handful of songs, and we were searching for inspiration,” recalls guitarist Joe Cocchi. “We wanted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Phenomena, because it was a pinnacle point of our career. I wrote a demo that reminded [vocalist] Steve [Tinnon] of Phenomena. So, it was his idea to create Phenomena II. The styles really aligned in terms of the unique guitar effects and the themes where each track tells a story from a comic book character’s point-of-view.”

Other Dates:
May 24 – Quebec City, QC – Quartier de Lune w/ Burning The Oppressor, Unpunished
June 14 – St-Calixte, QC – VodFest

USA Tour Dates:
July 16 – Albany, NY – Empire Underground
July 17 – Pittsburgh, PA – The Smiling Moose
July 18 – Mansfield, OH – Inkcarceration Festival (Campground Performance)
July 22 – Hampton Beach, NH – Wally’s

In additional news, Deadwood unveiled their most harrowing work to date with “Heretic”, the lead single from their upcoming EP Rituals of A Dying Light slated for release later this year. The accompanying video plunges viewers into a nightmarish realm that perfectly complements the band’s brutal, fast-paced sonic assault.

The comment on the single and what the audience should expect:

“This is the first song we’ve written for the next EP and one of the ones we’re most proud of, it’s fast, heavy, and technical. We are a very intense show with a very percussive and tight guitar sound. We have a lot of samples between the songs to create a horror movie atmosphere. The fans go back home with a slap in the face. Heretic represents our darkest material yet.”

NEW SINGLE ‘8.6 BLACKOUT’ OUT NOW

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF NEXT WEEK

Nuclear Blast Records is proud to welcome Missouri’s burgeoning extreme metal wrecking crew DISEMBODIED TYRANT to the label’s thriving roster. With one of the most distinct new sounds in heavy music, the volatile four-piece have already amassed a global cult following with their intense amalgam of blackened deathcore and progressive symphonic metal.

In the span of only a few short years, DISEMBODIED TYRANT has released a handful of singles and an EP that have garnered millions of streams, while performing a mind-blowing set at New England Metal & Hardcore Festival and North American tour with FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE and SHADOW OF INTENT that have sparked a firestorm of anticipation for what’s next for the band.

Commenting on the signing to Nuclear Blast, founding songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Blake Mullens says:

It’s an honor to be joining the Nuclear Blast roster, alongside some of my all time favorite bands/artists. Disembodied Tyrant has only ever been supported by myself internally, and to now have an entire team behind us is a dream come true, I’m very eager for what the future holds!

Nuclear Blast America’s label manager and head of A&R, Tommy Jones adds:

I’ve never signed an artist that never played a show live, until Disembodied Tyrant. I just felt so solid on their music and their team, that I rolled the dice. I saw the band’s 8th show ever at New England Metal and Hardcore Fest while they were supporting Fleshgod Apocalypse. After the performance, I hugged Blake and said in his ear ‘thank you for confirming my decision’.

The world is not ready for the insanity of Disembodied Tyrant, but you don’t have a choice. It’s about to get disgusting.”

Along with the signing announcement, comes the brand new single ‘8.6 BLACKOUT’; an unrelenting track of raging chaos.

Mullens says of the song: “This song was one of those rarities where the vision stayed consistent throughout the entire process, it became exactly what I imaged it would from day one. This is a huge pivot thematically from the previous material, coupled with the video I think it’s quite the statement.

A SCAR FOR THE WICKED – Unveil New Guitar Playthrough Video for “Drowned In Gluttony”

Posted in Death Metal, deathcore, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on February 28, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Canadian deathcore band, A Scar For The Wicked (ASFTW), have released a new guitar playthrough video for their latest track “Drowned In Gluttony,” off their 2024 album, Acolythus. This release follows the album’s success which hit the shelves last November 7th, and it continues to deliver the intense and raw energy that the band is known for.

The playthrough video, featuring the song’s third track, captures the thematic essence of gluttony and madness depicted in the song’s lyrics. It tells the haunting tale of a literary writer consumed by his past terrors, using Edgar Allan Poe’s chilling line, “I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity,” to portray his dark descent into insanity. The video showcases the band’s guitarists blindfolded, a testament to their exceptional skill and the song’s intense emotion. Their blindfolded performance not only highlights their technical mastery but also adds a visual depth to the themes of blindness and madness that pervade the track.

Musically, “Drowned In Gluttony” kicks off with a potent, heavy riff setting a somber and powerful tone. It progresses into intricate guitar work and concludes with a compelling solo, emphasizing melodic complexity and the band’s signature sound. The track’s breakdown provides a gripping moment of contrast, enhancing the overall intensity of the composition.

Fans of A Scar For The Wicked can watch the new playthrough video HERE and experience the gripping combination of complex guitar riffs and deep thematic content that the band consistently brings to their music.

Red Deer, AB extreme metal outfit Art of Attrition unleashes their latest single “Subserviate & Decay”. The track showcases the band’s signature blend of relentless brutality and melodic complexity while pushing into bold new territory.

Subserviate & Decay” delivers the classical Art of Attrition sound that fans have come to expect – a devastating combination of 8-string guitars, gravity blast beats, and guttural vocals – before taking an unexpected turn after the bridge breakdown. The band expands:

It is modern primitive. It embodies all you love about Art of Attrition and then slaps you in the face with a caveman club. We loved writing this song, recording the parts, and developing its uniqueness in our catalog. It serves as a visceral reminder of the necessity of internal self-love and confidence.”

Since their formation in 2019, Art of Attrition has carved out their niche in the extreme metal landscape; their 2023 debut album The Void Eternal and 2024’s …And It Will All End Forever established them as a force in the technical deathcore scene. The single represents a conscious step outside the band’s comfort zone, incorporating elements from other genres they love. It is especially recommended for fans of Lorna Shore, Aversions Crown, and Kublai Khan.

Red Deer, Alberta’s ART OF ATTRITION announces they are hitting the road this May to bring carnage straight to your city alongside 2025 Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champions, Toronto, ON’s BEGUILIER. Entitled “The Subservient Bloodletting Tour”, this cross-country trek marks a new chapter for both bands as they expand their reach, unleashing their most punishing sets to date along with new songs to unveil. Enter the moshpit for this east-to-west assault, have a beer, and enjoy some good ol’ DEATHCORE!

The Subservient Bloodletting Tour w/ Art of Attrition, Beguiler:

May 16 – The Vat – Red Deer, AB
May 17 – Dickens – Calgary, AB
May 23 – Stariite Temple – Edmonton, AB
May 24 – The Cobalt – Vancouver, BC

Formed in early 2019, Red Deer, AB’s Art Of Attrition is a band that redevelops “the typical” deathcore sound by delivering aggression with melody, atmosphere with intricacy, and brutality with technicality. Combining ferocious work ethic with refined musicality, their songs challenge the notion that deathcore cannot evolve or be unique.

In July 2024, they unleashed their EPAnd It Will All End Forever to follow their 2023 debut album Void Eternal. As a whole, their latest EP brought listeners disgusting breakdowns, matched by speed and intense guitar work that channeled emotions such as anger and anxiety. Hauntingly memorable solos gave way to epic choruses that share relatable moments. A whirlwind of deathcore, it’s matched with classic black metal, and capitalized with bits of groove and creative drum parts.

On February, 14th, 2025Art of Attrition will unshackle their first single of 2025, entitled “Subserviate & Decay”. The new song is an experimentation of some particular ideas that the band has over the years. With such diverse musical tastes, Art of Attrition is bringing some evolutionary ideas into their material for a new world order to “throw down”.

WHITECHAPEL To Release Hymns In Dissonance Full-Length March 7th On Metal Blade Records – New Video/Single Now Playing | Preorders Available

Posted in Death Metal, deathcore, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news with tags , , , , , , on January 15, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

WHITECHAPEL will release their long-awaited new full-length, Hymns In Dissonance, on March 7th via Metal Blade Records.

“There is nothing nice about Hymns In Dissonance, from the riffs, to the lyrics, to the overall vibe of the album,” says guitarist Alex Wade of the band’s latest output. “We attempted to write our heaviest album to date. We wanted to put out something that was shockingly menacing and brutal.”

“The album follows the story of a cultist who is gathering worthy people to join his cult,” Wade further elaborates, “and there are moments in the storyline where the cult followers are singing an evil hymn to open a portal for the head cultist to enter.”

The band’s dynamic, brutal musicality serves as a soundtrack to the compelling lyrical story that vocalist Phil Bozeman vividly imagines. “Hymns In Dissonance is a mockery of the true nature of what hymns are,” Bozeman explains. “Hymns are melodious and harmonious. Dissonance is the opposite of melody and harmony. Dissonance represents evil. The tracks on the record are the hymns, which represent the seven deadly sins, beginning from track three to track ten. Tracks one and two are the introduction.”

The lineup’s timely and terrifying vision was first unveiled in the Fall of 2024 with the single “A Visceral Retch” inciting frenzied fans to call the song “a version of WHITECHAPEL we have never heard before. Can’t explain how absolutely goddamn brutal this song is. This is a total dream come true.” The title track is the LP’s second single.

WHITECHAPEL, who formed in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2006, has seen the core lineup — vocalist Phil Bozeman, guitarists Ben Savage, Zach Householder, and Alex Wade, and bassist Gabe Crisp — intact since 2007, with the exception of drummer Brandon Zackey, who has been playing with the band since 2022. While Hymns In Dissonance follows 2021’s Kin chronologically, the new album is actually somewhat of a sequel to This Is Exile thematically, the three-word title Hymns In Dissonancerepresenting that correlation.

The band started composing the new album at Householder’s studio in June of 2023, following their headlining tour for The Valley. The collective stuck to a strict weekday schedule, the structure allowing for maximum creativity and minimum burnout. Householder produced Hymns In Dissonance, which allowed the musicians to seamlessly switch gears from preproduction to recording the full album without skipping a beat.

The guitarist shadowed producer Mark Lewis a lot over the last five WHITECHAPEL albums and bringing that influence inside the band is a full circle moment for Householder and WHITECHAPEL. “It’s cool that we can be self-sufficient and produce a record of this magnitude ourselves; not a lot of bands can say that.”

In advance of the release, today the band unleashes a video for the title track. Notes Bozeman, “It’s about [the storyline’s cultist] building his cult of followers: Only the most heinous and vile people on the planet showing their devotion to their lord, committing horrible acts, and the leader showcasing his power and his purpose to commit the seven cardinal sins to resurrect their lord, and to replace divinity with evil.”

Adds Wade, “Mostly written by Phil on guitar, ‘Hymns In Dissonance’ has a few riffs and tweaks thrown in by the rest of us. He can churn out some pummeling riffs and it’s one of the best songs on the album because he had a vision for the whole song with the riffs and vocals. It’s tuned to Drop G which we have been using since the self-titled LP, but the ending breakdown shifts down one whole step to Drop F, which we have never done before. Having the final breakdown shift lower than the rest of the song really helped the end have the crushing feeling it needed.”

WHITECHAPEL will return to North American stages this Spring on a month-long headlining tour! The Hymns In Dissonance Tour runs from March 18th in Raleigh, North Carolina through April 19th in Atlanta, Georgia. Support will be provided by Brand Of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds, and Alluvial. The journey follows WHITECHAPEL’s recent sold out run with Lorna Shore.

Comments WHITECHAPEL’s Alex Wade, “We are excited to announce the Hymns In Dissonance Tour taking place in Spring of 2025. This will be our first headlining tour on our new album cycle and we are looking forward to playing some new songs live for everyone. The lineup is diverse with upcoming modern deathcore band Brand Of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds bringing the old school death metal flavor, and Alluvial contributing a heavy progressive sound to the tour. Grab your tickets now and witness as we embark on a new chapter for WHITECHAPEL.”

Local presales begin on Thursday, December 19th at 10:00am local time. General on sale date is Friday, December 20th at 10:00am local time. See all confirmed dates below.

WHITECHAPEL released their standalone single, “A Visceral Retch,” in September. Relentlessly slamming, ominous, and punishing, the track delivers a dark, twisted theme about gluttonous overlords who test the lengths to which humans will go to survive and join their cult.
