Progressive Metallers id. Streaming EP Title Track ‘Sagittarius A’; EP Due Out February 10th

With songwriting that is a progressive, heavy and catharsis, Vancouver, BC’s id. is a multi-layered metal force. Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s theory on the levels of the human psyche, the band’s front line introduction of their subconscious tendencies is unleashed in their debut EP ‘Sagittarius A’ due out Feb 10, 2014.

Written by guitarist Alex Dubreuil with words backed by Jason Pennington, the EP touches on topics such as inner struggle, world views, self-awareness to what’s beyond in outer space.

“We want people to connect with our message and enjoy the diversity of our sound. The music has evolved from quite unstructured abstract ideas to come around to find a comfort zone with no borders.” comments vocalist Jason Pennington.

Employing a style that is different compared to other progressive bands, id. transcend genres in their four track debut, which features Vancouver Metal scene veterans lyricist and vocalist Jason Pennington (Makaria), drummer Kris DeBoer (Grudge, Infernal Majesty, Artep), rhythm guitarist Tyson Araszewski (AutumnEx) and guitarist Alex Dubreuil (My Own Chaos) who also does bass on the EP.

With more songs in their arsenal for a full length to follow their EP and influenced by bands such as Opeth, Mastodon, Devin Townsend, Gojira, and Augury, id is sharing with metallers what’s to come as they push forward to put themselves on the map.

Band Fact: The story behind the EP Title: ‘Sagittarius A’ is the name of the black hole in the center of our galaxy. The idea comes from a fundamental belief in a scientific world view, free of religious influence and tyranny. It outlines how people are susceptible to believe things without evidence if it appeals to their vanity, as opposed to being presented with evidence and being able to accept something that is inherently contradictory to their intuition.

Greek Thrashers BIOTOXIC WARFARE Unleash New Single From ‘Lobotomized’

In order to whet appetites, Biotoxic Warfare have released a single from their upcoming album ‘Lobotomized’ which is released this coming Monday, January 19th, via Slaney Records. The track, also named ‘Lobotomized’ is a meaty introduction to the band’s debut full-length release.

Since their formation little over two years ago and having already supported the likes of Enforcer and Suicidal Angels and released one highly lauded EP, ‘Baptized in Blood and Greed’ [2013], Biotoxic Warfare are emerging from the Greek underbelly as a force to be reckoned with. This is demonstrated in full on their debut album release, ‘Lobotomized’.

‘Lobotomized’ is a blistering aural attack from the start and does not let up the onslaught through the album’s eight tracks. Talking of the album, the band had this to say –

“The sound of ‘Lobotomized’ is mostly influenced by the European Thrash Metal scene (Kreator, Sodom) with a mix of old school American Death Metal (Obituary, Death, Morbid Angel). It also combines dark melodies, shredding guitar solos, technical riffing and many well-combined fragments of the whole extreme metal spectrum.

“Lyrically the album opposes strictly to any religious fanatics and cults who use their lies to control every human being with ambitions to reign upon arrogance and false reality created by religions worldwide since the dawn of time. The lyrics call the people to rise against their oppressors, stand out for what they believe and break the chains that bond both mind and soul.”

The band recorded the album at their home studio and went on to have it mixed and mastered by Vaggelis Theodorakis (Revolted Masses). ‘Lobotomized’’s artwork, designed by Roberto Toderico, encapsulates the messages from within the album. The band describe the artwork as depicting “the massive lobotomy and brain washing that terrorizes our society by any organized religion party, and aims to a global propaganda in order to control and twist the freedom of thinking and acting for yourself.”

FAILURE SHARE IN-STUDIO VIDEO, ANNOUNCE PRE-ORDERS FOR “FANTASTIC PLANET” FOLLOW-UP

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14, 2015 – Failure, who are currently in the studio working on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album Fantastic Planet, are giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at their progress with a new video released today in tandem with the kick off of the band’s PledgeMusic campaign (pledgemusic.com/failure).

PledgeMusic supporters will receive early access to audio clips as well as ongoing video updates from the band. A variety of packages are available, offering mementos from the recording sessions, ranging from hand-scrawled lyrics to effects pedals and vocal mics. Failure returned from a 17-year hiatus in early 2014 with a riotous hometown show at the El Rey Theatre and performances at Fun Fun Fun Fest, Riot Fest, the Sunset Strip Music Festival, Cinquanta, an outing with old friends Tool, and the band’s own Tree of Stars tour.

About Failure

Failure formed in Los Angeles in the early ‘90s, releasing Comfort, their debut album, in 1992 via Slash Records. Magnified followed in the spring of 1994 with the band’s final offering, Fantastic Planet, released in 1996. Fantastic Planet earned a perfect 5-star score from Alternative Press with the magazine saying the album was able “to breathe life into the corpse of contemporary, guitar-driven rock,” adding that the band was “willing to stretch the definition of both their instruments and their songs.” The 17-track album is considered one of the era’s most influential and enduring rock records. AC/DC – To Perform At 57th Grammy Awards; Some METAL Thoughts…

The super legendary AC/DC are returning to U.S. network television for the first time in over 14 years, to perform at The 57th GRAMMYs, on CBS this February 8th. Whoa! If you’re like me, I will tune in to see AC/DC on The Grammys, for this awards show never has our beloved Hard Rock or Metal heroes perform onstage; very few and far between it has historically been. Crap, it’s about time the mainstream world witnesses a Hard Rock band perform on the world stage other than Foo Fighters. You know?

I wonder how much stage time AC/DC will be given? The Grammys usually gives the three-quarter naked singers and creepy dancers all the time they need to perform like dumb dumbs, every year. It would be (gulp) great if AC/DC were to perform a couple of songs, maybe a new song from their Rock Or Bust album and a timeless classic? Man, how cool would it be to see the great Angus Young drop his britches and moon all of those plastic-faced Grammy elite?

Then again, I’m sure there is a tape delay for this broadcast anyway. Who knows. If the puppet masters of The Grammys downgrade the AC/DC performance to just a medley, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit, cause we are talking about mainstream television, after all. Metal be thy name. – Stone

New Voice of the Soul Song Streaming Now!

Dubai extreme metallers Voice of the Soul have today released a brand new song entitled ‘Pendulum’ from their forthcoming debut album ‘Catacombs’. The album will be released on 27th March 2015 distributed via UK label Hell’s Hammer & India’s Transcending Obscurity.

Vocalist and guitarist Kareem Chehayeb talks about the song, “This is song was inspired by the mass suicide of Jonestown that took place in 1978, but the lyrical content applies to so many political groups and cults whose leaders exploit the poor and disenfranchised for their own gain.”

The artwork (as seen below) was designed by Syrian Dubai-based artist Hamood Hallak of MHD Graphics, and was inspired by the concept of ‘Pendulum’.

Kareem elaborates: “While it appears evident that there is a priest/figure leading sheep, the cliff that they are about to walk off is within the temple itself. We don’t specify whether it’s religious or not, because religion isn’t the sole focus. It’s political, it’s social.”

First formed in Kuwait on the opposite side of the Persian Gulf in late 2007 17 year-old Kareem Chehayeb and 16 year-old Monish Shringi released their first EP, ‘Winds of Apprehension’ in July 2009 with second EP, ‘Eyes of Deceit’ seeking the light of day the following summer. After playing several shows in Dubai since January 2011, the band opted to relocate to the most popular city and emirate in the UAE before releasing their third EP, ‘Into Oblivion’, live on SOS Heavy Metal Radio in Portugal in August 2011. ‘Into Oblivion’ was undoubtedly the bands most successful record with songs receiving regular airplay across the globe.

During April 2014, the band made home at Haven Studio with producer Hadi Sarieddine in Dubai and recorded their debut full-length album ‘Catacombs’.

On This Day In METAL History – January 10th… And Metal Birthday Salutes To Aynsley Dunbar And Michael Schenker!

On January 10th, 1981 – Heart hits #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their cover of Tell It Like It Is. Aaron Neville recorded and released the original version of this song, back in 1966. This Heart song is featured on their 1980 album: Greatest Hits/Live.

On this day in 1983 – The United States, Canada and the UK launched Fraggle Rock, a worldwide program advocating peace. The late Jim Henson created this live action Muppet television series, involving a society of Muppet creatures called Fraggles. This original series ended on March 30, 1987. Just so you know, the Fraggles are… Metal.

On January 10th, 1984 – 9,500 fans were in attendance to see Mötley Crüe perform as the opening act on the first leg of Ozzy Osbourne’s Bark At The Moon tour, in Portland, Maine. Mötley Crüe were touring in support of their second studio album: Shout At The Devil. Whoa!

On this day in 1990 – On their New Jersey Syndicate Tour, Bon Jovi performed the first of seven sold-out concerts at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England. Bon Jovi were touring in support of their fourth studio album: New Jersey.

AYNSLEY DUNBAR

Born on January 10th, 1946 was Aynsley Dunbar. Happy birthday, Aynsley! Yeah! Aynsley Dunbar is famously known as being a world-class drummer. Aynsley Dunbar is a former member and/or session drummer for Aynsley Dunbar’s Retaliation, Journey, John Lennon, David Bowie, Jefferson Starship, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Whitesnake, Lou Reed, Pat Travers and UFO, among many others. Long live Aynsley Dunbar!

MICHAEL SCHENKER

Born on January 10th, 1955 was Michael Schenker. Happy birthday, Michael! Whoa! Michael Schenker is an influential world-class guitarist and famously known as a former member of Scorpions and UFO. Michael Schenker has also achieved a highly successful solo career, with his bands Michael Schenker Group and McAuley Schenker Group, along with the early 90’s supergroup: Contraband. Kaotoxin Records Announces First Bands for Kaotoxin Fest #II

After a successful debut, the Kaotoxin Fest will return in 2015 for a second edition that will take place in Lille, France on December 5.

A LIGHT WITHIN – Release “Between Shores” For Download

Post-Metallers A Light Within from Kansas City, MO, have released Between Shores on a Name Your Price basis on their Bandcamp page. The track comes as the next step in the band’s evolving sound from their début EP Preface.

In an interview with Dutch Metal Maniac (read here), guitarist Jeff Irvine explains: “With the changing of bassists, the sound changed. Not drastically, but organically. We all went out of our comfort zones, and came up with something really great.”  The single, likened to bands such as Junius and Neurosis, comes as a taster for the upcoming Body Matter EP, whose lyrics concern “one’s reflection on life; love and loss.”

UFOMAMMUT – Completes Seventh Studio Full-Length For Spring Release Via Neurot Recordings

Italian power trio, UFOMAMMUT, is putting the final details on the band’s anticipated seventh studio full-length in order for the album to see an early Spring 2015 worldwide release, once again through Neurot Recordings. While virtually no specific details on the album are yet to be revealed to the public, the album is fully mixed, mastered and going into production now. The record’s title, release date and much more will be unveiled at the dawn of 2015, and mass album and tour updates will ensue through the rest of the year.

In October, UFOMAMMUT proudly released XV, through the band’s own Supernatural Cat label with support from Neurot, a DVD documenting their intense first fifteen years together. For nearly two years UFOMAMMUT has been working on this special video project delivered through XV‘s more than three hours of footage documenting their vast discography and live accomplishments. The DVD features Magickal Mastery Live, a twelve-song live act, as well as interviews, outtakes, and extras, captured over the past decade and a half.

A mini-documentary sampled from XV is playing at THIS LOCATION, and a video of “Zerosette” from the band’s Godlike Snake debut is playing RIGHT HERE. Orders for the XV DVD can be placed in the US HERE and internationally HERE, and the digital audio version of Magickal Mastery Live only can be ordered HERE.

Additional info on the upcoming album will be released in the coming weeks as UFOMAMMUT prepares to return to North America for their first major tour of the continent in 2015, including a performance at Maryland Deathfest 2015.

1974 – Clive Davis launches a new record label: Arista Records.

1980 – RUSH released their seventh studio album, Permanent Waves. This album went on to become RUSH’s first top five album in the United States, peaking at #4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart the very next month. Two songs featured on this album, The Spirit Of Radio and Freewill, were FM radio favorites and now Classic Rock format mainstays.

1989 – Nirvana signed their first record contract, a three-year three-album agreement with Sub Pop Records. Whoa!

1990 – The Kinks and The Who are inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Icons of Heavy Rock, both!

On December 31st, 1973 – The iconic AC/DC made their live concert debut at the Chequers Club, in Sydney, Australia. The AC/DC story continues… Whoa!

On this day in 1986 – The Horror/Drama film Witchboard was released to wide-screen theaters. The theme of this movie is: don’t F*CK around with Ouija boards. Go ahead… see what happens by chasing down this very cool film. In 1986, this movie was rated R; today it would be rated PG13. Um, yeah.

Witchboard stars: Todd Allen, Clare Bristol, Burke Byrnes, Ryan Carroll and written/directed by Kevin Tenney. Scary movies are… Metal.

On December 31st, 1951, Tom Hamilton was born in Colorado, USA. Happy Rockin’ birthday, Tom! Whiz-bang! Tom Hamilton is world-famous as the bassist, co-songwriter and founding member for Aerosmith. On This Day In METAL History – December 30th…

On December 30th, 1977 – Ted Nugent with Golden Earring and Missouri performed at the Riverfront Coliseum, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ted Nugent was touring in support of his third studio album: Cat Scratch Fever. Golden Earring were touring in support of their studio album: Mad Love, while Missouri were touring in support of their debut, self-titled, studio album.

On this day in 1980 – Cheap Trick received a Gold record for their fifth studio album All Shook Up. This album was produced by George Martin, famously known as the Beatles producer. All Shook Up features the hit: Stop This Game. This album peaked on the U.S. Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #24.

SAN FRANCISCO, December 2014 – Acid King, pioneers of the San Francisco Doom scene and one of the genre’s first bands to be helmed by a woman, return from their self-imposed 10-year recording hiatus on April 14 with the release of Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere.

“We had several songs in the works over the years that we spent most of our time touring Europe but in between working our day jobs, we didn’t put the effort into recording,” explained singer/guitar player Lori S. “I really wanted to accelerate the process and get new music out. It’s time. This music that we’ve been playing for so long, that was initially obscure and underground, seemed to grow over these past 10 years and the timing was right to release this now!”

Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere was recorded at both Sharkbite and Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco, mixed at Different Fur Studios and produced by Acid King and Billy Anderson. The digital release will be released independently via Acid King while physical copies, both CD and vinyl, will be available via Svart Records.

Acid King bubbled up from San Francisco in 1993 through a fog of revved up riffs, thunderous drums, and a hypnotic vocal howl. They unleashed three EPs and three full-length albums, starting with Zoroaster in 1995, the 1999 full-length Busse Woods, and their most recent release, Acid King III, coming in 2005. Their seismic chemistry transfixed audiences everywhere from high-profile festivals such as Hellfest and Roadburn to now iconic shows alongside peers such as Sleep and Mystick Krewe of Clearlight.

The band recently confirmed their participation in Desertfest, April 24 to 26 in the UK. North American tour dates will be announced soon.

On This Day In METAL History – December 29th… From Jimi Hendrix To DIO

On December 29th, 1966 – On the BBC’s Top Of The Pops, The Jimi Hendrix Experience made their television debut performing Hey Joe. As with many artists that appeared on Top Of The Pops, songs were mimed to achieve a higher transmission of quality sound and The Jimi Hendrix Experience were no exception to the mime.

On this day in 1973 – The Who reach #76 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the USA with Love Reign o’er Me. This song is featured on The Who’s sixth studio album and Rock Opera: Quadrophenia. This classic song was written by The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend.

On December 29th, 1973 – Led Zeppelin reaches #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart in the USA with their hit: D’yer Mak’er. This song is featured on Led Zeppelin’s fifth studio album, released in 1973 on Atlantic Records: Houses Of The Holy.

On this day in KISSTORY, December 29th, 1982: KISS began a tour in support of their tenth (heavy hittin’) studio album: Creatures of the Night. This tour embarked at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. This was the first KISS tour with guitarist Vinnie Vincent, who replaced the great Ace Frehley. This would be the last tour with KISS in makeup, until their 1996 reunion tour.

On this day in 1984 – Aerosmith performed at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. Whoa!

On December 29th, 1987 – DIO, Megadeth and Savatage performed at the New Haven Coliseum, in New Haven, Connecticut. This was the DIO Dream Evil tour! I was very fortunate to have been there that night and witness three incredibly legendary Metal bands!

DIO‘s memorable Dream Evil studio album was released in 1987. Megadeth were touring in-between two tremendous studio albums: Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986) and So Far, So Good… So What! (1988). Savatage were touring in support of their incredibly grand and fourth full-length studio album: Hall Of The Mountain King.

Best Metal Buddy Scott Coverdale and Metal Buddy Rob were with me too, for this night of Metal madness; a night of Metal I shall never forget! Metal be thy name!

THE LUMBERJACK FEEDBACK – Release FREE Digital EP

Mastered by R3myboy (Gojira, Ez3kiel…), Noise in the Church consists of two tracks recorded live in July 2014, in a deconsecrated church. The performance was filmed by Attic Addict. The live tracks – Salvation, off the band’s upcoming debut full-length, Blackened Vision, and The Dreamcatcher, from their 2013 debut Hand of Glory – make Noise in the Church the perfect missing link between what was and what will be.

Israeli Thrashers SHREDHEAD are set to release Death is Righteous on January 12, 2015, via Mighty Music.
