That ominous rumbling you heard was not a deception perpetrated by your ears, but rather a warning of a nefarious force emerging from the streets of Birmingham, Alabama. That force is KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE and Night of the Nuberus is now upon us. Released in September 2017, the time has arrive for the rest of the world to heed the warning and prepare for an old school crossover attack that combines Black Metal melodies, Doom/Sludge/Death Metal breakdowns, and in-your-face punk/thrash aggression with lyrical content inspired by horror films. And let’s not forget about the serial-killer themed stage shows!
Stream Night of the Nuberus in its entirety below or by visiting the following link:
The music of Night of the Nuberus was written by Clint Spain and Steve Cater, the former also penning the lyrics. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Matthew Washburn (Mastodon) at LedBelly Sound Studio. Artwork and layout come courtesy of Shawn Knight.
Vocalist/Guitarist Clint Spain had this to say about the band’s macabre creation:
“Night of the Nuberus is our first major release. We went for a horror movie vibe in writing and recording the album, like a love letter to old slasher movies and horror punk bands. But my love for the New Orleans scene, black metal and the Melvins definitely bleeds through.”
KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE started in 2014. They are a heavy crossover band from Birmingham Al, with multiple influences from hardcore, metal and punk. All of these very different influences led them to become their own genre of heavy music with multiple styles flowing through every KZ song.
KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE has shared the stage with Superjoint (Phil Anselmo and Jimmy bower), Max and Igor Cavalera, Cannibal Corpse, Doyle, Crowbar, Power Trip, Raven, OVERKILL, Venom, Child Bite, GoatWhore, Iron Reagan, Battle Cross,Valient Thorr, Havok, Toxic Holocaust, Decapitated, Hammer Fight, GateCreeper, Dark Sermon, Exalted and many more.
Album Line-up:

Steve Cater – Lead guitar, backing vocals and bass
March 28, 2018 – Fullerton, Calif. – The Melvins, who recently announced the April 20 release of Pinkus Abortion Technician (Ipecac Recordings), have debuted the Mackie Osborne directed video for “Embrace The Rub” – watch below.
“’Embrace The Rub’ is a Steven McDonald penned, punker tune throwback to his days as a young Hawthorne, CA punk hanging out with Black Flag,” explained Dale Crover. “For some reason, I decided that this tune really needed a piano part.”
The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers). The Melvins previously shared the song “Stop Moving To Florida” from the forthcoming release:
Pinkus Abortion Technician pre-orders are available now (http://smarturl.it/MelvinsPinkus) with digital pre-orders including an instant download of both “Stop Moving To Florida” and “Embrace The Rub.”

2009 Release Surfaces on Vinyl, CD and Digital Formats
First Tour Dates of 2018 Revealed
“Death Metal needs blood, fire and carnage,” declares JUNGLE ROT throat and rhythm guitarist Dave Matrise. Today, JUNGLE ROT has released a brand new video for ‘The Unstoppable,’ from their long out-of-print album What Horrors Await. The fourteen track underground classic will debut on vinyl format for the first time worldwide on Record Store Day, April 21, 2018.
“Filming the point-of-view aspect from a tank made this video so much better,” states Matrise. “Instead of performing with instruments, we came up with the idea of each JUNGLE ROT soldier inside their own tank – mercilessly fighting and communicating to each other back and forth like killing machines. The lyrics are actually about a rolling death machine and she’s called ‘The Unstoppable,’ the bloodiest, most bad-ass beast you’ve ever seen! Doing the camo face paint is something that I wanted to do for a while and it really captured the whole feel we were going for. Prepare for a total alpha-strike, war-gore cloud of fear with a stop-at-nothing attitude in the thick of battle!”
On the re-issued album Matrise points out, “When we first released What Horrors Await in 2009, it was a one-time deal with a limited run. CD’s never made it to the US and were sold only in Europe where the previous label was based. What Horrors Await has always been JUNGLE ROT’s most sought-after album with fans often paying ridiculous amounts of money for it on eBay. It’s really been a rare and collectible album. We’re so glad it’s now out on our home label Victory Records, it will give everybody a chance to finally hear this monstrous release.”
JUNGLE ROT storm into Canada next week for their first shows of 2018, in anticipation of their tenth studio album (set for a spring release). “We feel lucky to be able to express ourselves through so many albums and I’m hoping our fans will never tire of meat and potatoes metal!” admits guitarist Geoff Bub, as bassist James Genenz adds, “We’ve got quite a fire under our collective asses and we’re psyched to get this album out! This is going to be a nasty record!”

This May, Faroese-based folk metal band TYR will headline a North American tour with Orphaned Land, Ghost Ship Octavius and Aeternam. The journey will kick off on May 5th in Brooklyn, New York and wind its way through nearly two-dozen cities, coming to a close on May 28th in Atlanta, Georgia. See all confirmed dates below.
TYRfounding frontman Heri Joensen comments: “It’s been way too long since we visited Vinland, and we’re hellbent on having a blast of a time on this trip!”
TYR is currently finishing work on their eighth studio album, due out this fall via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2013’s critically claimed Valkyrja full-length involves a story based around a nameless, Viking-era warrior who leaves his woman to impress the Valkyrie on the battlefield so that she may bring him to Valhalla, or to Folkvangr, the home of Freyja, the goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, sorcery, war, and death. One can say the album is also indirectly about women and how they affect men and what men will do to impress and obtain women. Joensen elaborates, “The woman that the warrior leaves may represent the earthly women. Freyja, The Lady Of The Slain, may represent the perfection of women, and the Valkyrie is the link between the two, taking men from earthly to godly women.”
Long-running Washington-based heavy rock trio MOS GENERATOR will release a new full-length this May via Listenable Records. Titled Shadowlands, the eight-track studio offering was recorded in three sessions — June 2017, November 2017, and January 2018 — at the HeavyHead Recording Company in Port Orchard, Washington and comes swathed in the cover art of Adam Burke [Pilgrim, Satan’s Satyrs, Hooded Menace, Artificial Brain et al].
“Right from the opening song, Shadowlands is a record that, to me, feels more honest than our previous releases,” relays founding guitarist/vocalist/principal songwriter Tony Reed. “On this record, I introduce many other styles that I enjoy but they are intertwined so subtly that it doesn’t interrupt the classic MOS GENERATOR sound. That is a balance I’ve been looking for over the last few albums and I think the presence of [drummer] Jon Garrett and [bassist] Sean Booth have a lot to do with achieving that balance. It’s a heavy rock record that breaths and if I had to describe it further I would say it mixes ’70s style heavy rock, progressive rock, and also has some weird ’80s and ’90s underground rock nuances.”
Shadowlands will see release via Listenable Records in Europe on May 11th followed by a US street date of May 18th with preorder info to be announced in the coming weeks.
Shadowlands – Track Listing:
1. Shadowlands
2. The Destroyer
3. Drowning In Your Loving Cup
4. Stolen Ages
5. Gamma Hydra
6. The Blasting Concept
7. Woman Song
8. The Wild & Gentle Dogs
In advance of the release of Shadowlands, MOS GENERATOR will take on a month-long, cross-country US tour. Set to commence on April 20th, the Road Rats Tour 2018 will run through May 26th and includes sixteen dates supporting Fu Manchu! See all confirmed shows below.
MOS GENERATOR formed during the Winter of 2000 in Port Orchard, Washington from the ashes of a decade-long on-again-off-again collaboration between its three members, all of which are long time veterans of the road and studio. The need to strip down to the basics of hard rock was apparent from the start and continues to be the foundation for the band’s recent material.
MOS GENERATOR has released seven studio albums, a retrospective album, a live album, and a plethora of split releases. 2015 brought in a new rhythm section and touring possibilities far beyond the limitations of the original lineup. This new lineup has changed the band into a relentless touring machine, delivering critically acclaimed performances both states and abroad. “They are so good,” gushed Maximum Volume Music, “you end up wanting to round-up a couple of mates, buy a Transit, form a three-piece rock ‘n’ roll band and go on tour.”
MOS GENERATOR: Tony Reed – guitar, vocals, keyboards Sean Booth – bass Jon Garrett – drums
“It’s as pure an example of heavy rock as I’ve heard.” JJ Koczan – The Obelisk
We wanted to make a long, epic, atmospheric composition, without forgetting a heavier approach. One could maybe find some influences from Finnish bands Sentenced & Swallow The Sun. During the recordings we heard saddening news that one of our friend departed this life so this track is made in memory of him. This song will take you for a moment to a music trip where the waters of Tohtaa will flow forever, says the band’s drummer Sami Vertanen. Mixing is handled by guitar virtuoso Lassi Tiainen (ex-Drawn Awake).
Blood Region is also announcing their new singer 29-year-old Ira Green, known from ‘Voice Of Italy’. Ira comments an upcoming album project: “I’m excited to join this project! It’s always interesting mix different kind of sounds and moods and I already know that it would be fun. I started with music 12 years ago but it’s always a good choice to embrace something new and I hope to come soon in Finland, Let’s go guys!!”
We have long considered what kind of vocal sound we’d like to have on our upcoming album and we thought that Ira’s voice was more than perfect to it. New single with Ira on vocals is released pretty soon and full length album will follow later in the fall.
Vancouver’s BAPTISTS announce their third full-length album, Beacon Of Faith, now confirmed for release through Southern Lord on May 25th. The album’s brooding “Capsule” has been made available for streaming.
Beacon Of Faith broadly follows the same trajectory as the album’s predecessors, Bushcraft (2013) and Bloodmines (2014) – combining the style of raw adrenaline-fueled emotion, venomous vocal delivery, gigantic guitar sound, and a visceral rhythmic propulsion – a sonic manifestation of desolate rage, bolstered by a palpable sense of urgency. The album is densely packed, yet BAPTISTS‘ sound is far from claustrophobic. There is melody amongst the dissonance, as the band more deeply explore the noise rock vistas that have always underpinned their sound.
Lyrics are drawn from the members’ direct experience of a broken society and general discontentment with everyday life. A multitude of issues are in the firing line, from the Canadian court system, issues surrounding substance abuse, mental health, and how the more fortunate, “tend to dismiss people who have been dealt a less-fortunate hand,” as guitarist Danny also reflects.
Beacon Of Faith was recorded at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou in July 2017, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.

Southern Lord will release Beacon Of Faith on all formats on May 25th; watch for additional updates in the weeks ahead.

Master are one of the earliest proponents of Death Metal and are veritable legends in the line, having been around for over three decades and releasing over a dozen records. It’s phenomenal to get a chance to work with a band of their repute and we can only be grateful to be given a chance to work with them for a brand new full length this year if not more. Master’s latest album ‘Vindictive Miscreant’ will not only please their old fans but will also turn many new listeners into one. It’s their best album in years.
Transcending Obscurity Records label owner Kunal Choksi says, “It’s truly a dream come true to work with a legendary band in Master. Paul Speckmann proved to be a man of rare integrity and signed the contract within two hours of bringing up the topic. Needless to say, I will be doing my utmost best not to let him down and do greater things for his band, now and in the future. This is a very fortuitous signing for the label and I couldn’t be happier. Hard work does pay off, it seems, when there was little respite. Thanks to Rogga Johansson of Paganizer for highly recommending my label to the band. Here’s hoping for a strong partnership with the legends Master.”
Master’s founder Paul Speckmann comments: “Of course it’s an honor and a privilege in these days to sign to a reputable label which comes highly recommended by many excellent musicians! The future of Master carries on and we will fight until the end!”

The band will be touring in support of their third full-length, Where Owls Know My Name, set for release on March 16th – just one day after tour kick off – via Metal Blade Records. Whereas 2013’s The Conscious Seed Of Light and 2015’s Monarchy were thematically centered around spring and summer, respectively, Where Owls Know My Name represents the fall. And although that season is usually associated with death, for RIVERS OF NIHIL, the autumn serves as a rebirth.
Where Owls Know My Name reunites RIVERS OF NIHIL with Monarchy producer Carson Slovak (August Burns Red, The Last Ten Seconds Of Life) and Dan Seagrave, the storied artist behind such celebrated album covers as Entombed’s Left Hand Path and Suffocation‘s Effigy Of The Forgotten.Where Owls Know My Name is often just as punishing as its predecessors while assimilating ingredients from musical genres as varied as electronica, jazz, alternative, folk, and the golden age of Shrapnel Records. The resulting music is indescribably progressive, a multifaceted soundscape that goes beyond the wildest dreams of even the group’s most ardent admirers.
Sample Where Owls Know My Name’s “The Silent Life,” “A Home” and the title track at: http://www.metalblade.com/riversofnihil where the record can be preordered in various formats.
MONSTRANCE, composed of current and former members of CARCASS, MY DYING BRIDE, MALEDICTION and BAL-SAGOTH, has released an updated demo track of “Cerebral Bore Machine,” featuring new vocalist Rik Simpson. The track comes off the band’s forthcoming debut EP Injustice For All.
Led by Swansong-era CARCASS guitarist Carlo Regadas, MONSTRANCE recently signed with Transcending Records for the fall 2018 release of Injustice for All on CD and digital formats. Cosmic Key Creations will release the EP on limited-edition black and gold 12″ vinyl.
NEW RELEASE IS THE FIRST TO FEATURE SINGER KAYLA DIXON; LISTEN TO “BURN YOU DOWN”HERE
_____________________________
Portland, Ore., March 12, 2018 – Witch Mountain return from their three-plus-year hiatus with a refreshed line-up (new singer Kayla Dixon and bass player Justin Brown join band stalwarts Rob Wong and Nate Carson) and a new album: Witch Mountain (May 25, Svart Records).
“We’ve always been a patient band,” said founding member/drummer Nathan Carson. “Thanks to all of the touring Rob and I have done with Justin and Kayla over the last three years, we were able to make this album as a full-fledged, road-tested, family unit. Over twenty years, Witch Mountain has never peaked; each record and tour are better than the last. It was a tiny scene when we started, and even though it’s incredibly saturated now, own unique twist on Northwestern doom has continued to set us apart. I can’t wait to share the latest and greatest album with our fans.”
The five-song release features the aforementioned new singer, Kayla Dixon, who had large shoes to fill when Uta Plotkin announced she was moving on following the release of Mobile of Angels. NPR said of Dixon’s abilities: “Kayla Dixon is a rarity in doom-metal, a singer with soul, dynamism, drama, control and poise. There’s proficiency in her voice, but she knows that the blues — especially heavy-metal blues — rolls like thunder and wanders like a diva dancing around. She’s got a gift for righteously nailing the perfect note.”

“…pound for pound one of the band’s most essential efforts, the record contains almost wall to wall instant classics, and is not only Steve Tucker’s best album as MORBID ANGEL frontman, but by extension the group’s most genre-defining effort since 1995’s iconic Domination.” — Metal Injection

Death Metal defenders of the old, GRUESOME, has completed their second full-length album and follow-up their 2015 debut full-length, Savage Land. Their latest studio offering, titled Twisted Prayers, was recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349, Goatwhore, Wolvhammer) at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Florida. Twisted Prayers follows Death’s paradigm shift during the Spiritual Healing era, incorporating more cerebral, melodic instrumentation with elements of thrash and thought-provoking, socially conscious lyrics. The record once again features artwork from the legendary Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Venom) and is expected to be released this summer via Relapse Records. Stay tuned for more info to be announced in the coming weeks.
Additionally, GRUESOME will kick off a European headlining tour this summer. Beginning July 19th, the trek will travel through two dozen cities and includes appearances at Obscene Extreme 2018, Wacken Open Air, Free & Easy Festival, Stonehenge Festival and more. See all confirmed dates below.
Bay Area Melodic Death Metal outfit LIGHT THIS CITY issues a new teaser video for the band’s first new album in ten years. Having completed the new LP in recent days, the trailer shows the reactivated outfit in the studio, leaking the very first traces of the anxiously awaited record.
After a decade of silence between albums, LIGHT THIS CITY has returned with ten blazing tracks that capture the band’s tendency towards extreme melody and intensity, honoring the Swedish sound of the ’90s. Having spent the past decade performing and touring in numerous other bands, the five members of LIGHT THIS CITY have only honed and shaped their skills and musicianship since their 2008-released Stormchaser. The album was recorded from December 2017 through February 2018 with Zack Ohren, who handled the band’s previous four full length albums, at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, California, and features artwork by Tony Midi.
See the new LIGHT THIS CITY teaser video RIGHT HERE or below:
The new record will be released in CD, LP, and digital formats on May 25th; watch for the title, artwork, track listing, preorder links, audio samples, and more to be issued in the days ahead.
LIGHT THIS CITY began in 2002, when best friends Laura Nichol and Ben Murray decided to start a melodic death metal project in the vein of At the Gates, Carcass, In Flames, and all the Scandinavian bands that inspired them to play fast, melodic, crushing music, largely untouched by the American population of metalcore, deathcore, and numerous other subgenres of heavy metal that were ignoring the monstrous influences of the ’90s. After the sparks were lit, Nichol and Murray soon wrote their debut 2003 full-length, The Hero Cycle, which quickly landed them a deal with Prosthetic Records, who would go on to release the band’s following three albums.
As Murray and Nichol neared the end of high-school, LIGHT THIS CITY released 2005’s Remains Of The Gods, which sparked the rest of the band’s trajectory on Prosthetic Records, and saw the band touring heavily in support of their Bay Area brand of melodic-death metal infused thrash. Remains Of The Gods gained favorable reviews and it seemed as if the metal press knew what was in store for LIGHT THIS CITY.
Next came the band’s undeniably most popular album, Facing The Thousand. By the time Nichol and Murray had arrived into 2006, they were out of high-school, on the road full-time, with Steve Hoffman on guitar, Ryan “Hollywood” Hansen on lead guitar, and Jon Frost on bass. Facing The Thousand saw the band supporting a multitude of metal acts such as Death Angel, Vader, Malevolent Creation, Edguy, Into Eternity, All That Remains, Chimaira, Soilent Green, Darkest Hour, Suicide Silence, Misery Signals, and many more, gaining the band a rapid exposure into the metal mainstream.
After a three-year touring cycle the band retreated to Oakland to record their fourth album, Stormchaser, which saw a guest vocal appearance by Chuck Billy of Testament. Before the official release of the album, LIGHT THIS CITY disbanded before even having the chance to tour on their fourth and final effort.
In 2010, LIGHT THIS CITY played five final shows, dubbed The Final Thrash Attack, in which the band was able to celebrate the songs of Stormchaser, and give the fans a bit of closure that they never received with the band’s sudden disappearance from the world of heavy metal. In September of 2015, Darkest Hour requested that LIGHT THIS CITY play the San Francisco date of their twentieth anniversary tour. LIGHT THIS CITY quickly reunited within a few months to rehearse one final set that would celebrate the band’s four-album career. The show was absolutely one for the books, sparking the flame which lead the band to reunite, ten years later.

Sweden’s The Torch have inked a deal with German STF Records for the worldwide release and promotion of their sophomore album ”Chasing Light”.
The album was recorded and produced in Gothenburg at Studiofonic by Sebastian ”Basse” Olsson who previously worked with Avatar, among others. Mixing and mastering was handled by Dan Laskiewicz (The Acacia Strain, LGND) in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The sound on ”Chasing Light” could best be described as a heavy trip to the 90’s, in the vein of monumental bands like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, only with a twist of it’s own.
The release date for “Chasing Light” is yet to be confirmed, but it is set to be in the first half of 2018.

WOLVHAMMER‘s upcoming fourth album The Monuments Of Ash & Bone is far removed from the methodical riffing and trudging pace of their previous records, eschewing any frills. Merging the black metal tendencies of Enslaved with the mid-tempo sludge of Celtic Frost, The Monuments Of Ash & Bone delivers nearly forty-two minutes of savagery through seven new songs. The album kicks the tempo into high gear and goes straight for the throat; no experimental bullshit, just the sound of rotten flesh and slow decay.
XENOKORP is proud to announce the signing of a multi-album deal with US dark Death Metal band SKINNED, the release of the group’s fifth full-length, “Shadow Syndicate“, on May 04 and the immediate launch of the FREE digital single / music video “We Are the End“!
Firmly rooted in the Death Metal spectrum, SKINNED have since their inception in 1995, always combined styles to create their very own kind of Extreme Metal by twisting and re-shaping sub-genres, the result being a unique mix of Death Metal, dark Doom soundscapes, hyper blasts, Black Metal dramatic grotesquery and heavy slams.
This monstrous band’s ability to invoke innumerable extremes to create some of the heaviest, most epic, dark and brutal yet groovy brand of Death Metal is impressive. From their debut demo to present, the level of progression and diversification is vast and seemingly unstoppable.
Much like the relentlessness of their music, SKINNED continue to canvas the world with countless past tours and gigs on such sub/continents and countries as North and Central America, Europe, Russia, Japan, South Africa, South Asia… most recently with the likes of DEFEATED SANITY, KATAKLYSM, INCANTATION, CEPHALIC CARNAGE and many more, making SKINNED a globally recognized force within the Extreme Metal scene as a whole and that for sure won’t stop with their new deal with world-renowned management and booking agency THE FLAMING ARTS and the release of their brand new landmark album, “Shadow Syndicate“ through XENOKORP on May 04.
Varied in shapes and moods, “Shadow Syndicate”, produced by Dave OTERO (CATTLE DECAPITATION, CEPHALIC CARNAGE…) and featuring, among others, guest vocals by Josh WELSHMAN (DEFEATED SANITY…) and guest lyrics by Paul McGUIRE (CEREBRAL BORE…), is the kind of work of art that’s much more than a collection of tracks: it’s a world in itself where each song explores a different aspect of dark beliefs (conspiracy theories, unsolved mysteries…), the whole creating a society of extreme darkness under the domination of the New World Order where the citizens become cattle for the governments and guinea pigs for alien entities, ultimately leading your specie to its ultimate demise, the face under the merciless boot of the… “Shadow Syndicate“!
