ULCERATE – New Zealand Death Metal Trio Joins Debemur Morti Productions Roster; European Tour To Commence Next Month

Posted in Death Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on March 26, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

New Zealand death metal trio ULCERATE have joined the Debemur Morti Productions roster.

Issues the band of the new union: “We are extremely happy to be moving head-first into this next chapter with a partnership that aligns so clearly with our own vision. Debemur Morti has always been in our peripheral gaze – the attention to detail and high level of curation is second-to-none.”

Death metal has always had roots in themes of humanity, darkness, and oppression, but when ULCERATE formed in Auckland, New Zealand in 2000, their unconventional approach to the genre quickly redefined the meaning of those concepts throughout death metal and beyond. The trio’s distinctive treatment of dynamics alongside in-depth lyrical content established the band as a formidable force long before they became the standard-bearers for a new era of death metal, one defined by meticulous passages of understated melodic sensibilities and jarring, tooth-scraping dissonance.

The band’s inexorable march from 2007’s Of Fracture And Failure (2007) to the unparalleled Shrines Of Paralysis (2016) has been terrifying. And it appears the best is yet to come.

Further details on the band’s as-yet-untitled new full-length will be released in the months to come. In the meantime, don’t miss ULCERATE on their upcoming European tour set to commence April 10th and run through April 21st. The trek includes an appearance on this year’s edition of Roadburn. IRON MAIDEN – “No Prayer For The Dying” – Revisiting This 1990 Metal Classic

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on March 21, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

I remember buying No Prayer For The Dying back in 1990. I thought it was so cool that this (now classic) album was releasing in October, the season of Halloween. This album now forever reminds me of Haloween too. Can you dig it? I bought the cassette version first and upgraded to CD some years later.

I still have the same CD (with the original cover art and not the bogus edited version) and just recently sold the cassette. Amazing I had the same cassette all these decades. Unreal. As for the album’s songs, I have my favorites: Tailgunner, Holy Smoke, No Prayer For The Dying, Hooks In You and Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter. “Holy Smoke… Smells Good”… I love that stuff.

I believe this IRON MAIDEN album doesn’t get the full credit it so deserves. In my Metal opinion, when I look at the Bruce Dickinson era of IRON MAIDEN, this album kicks more Metal ass than Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and The Final Frontier. Sure, Adrian Smith left the band and Janick Gers came on board with the production of this album; does it really freaking matter after all these years? Both guitarists are living legends, to this Metal maniac. What’s fabulous about this album is the songs are very much written like those of their 80’s classics; with no eleven minute over progressive baloney.

Bruce Dickinson sounds so superb on this album, per usual. Bruce truly shows his range on Public Enema Number One; just another memorable song on this album for me. I honestly listened to the cassette version of this album in my car, so many times, it’s nothing short of amazing. Without a trace of doubt, I have never grown tired of No Prayer For The Dying. This release is a MUST for any new IRON MAIDEN fans out there and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. The only reason this album didn’t get it’s just due is for the year of its release. I believe if this album was released in 1987 or 1988 it would be regarded as highly as Somewhere In Time. Just saying. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Martin “The Bishop” Birch produced, engineered and mixed No Prayer For The Dying. This album was released via Epic. The iconic artist Derek Riggs created the incredible album cover.

IRON MAIDEN: Bruce Dickinson (vocals), Dave Murray (guitar), Janick Gers (guitar), Steve Harris (bass) and Nicko McBrain on drums.

“The Scabby Ghouls” blends party-loving punk and the macabre seamlessly for a truly fun and unique experience. Described by fans as “Scooby-Doo Punk” or “Haunted House Punk”, this band celebrates all things creepy, spooky and bizarre year-round. Whether harkening back to the Elizabeth Short murder in the ‘50s, venting in frustration at the inability to drive, or punning on everyone’s favorite Elm Street murderer, the lyrics are as gruesome as they are cheerful when delivered by the Hazards, who also handle guitar work adeptly. This album showcases the band’s ability to blend various punk sub-genres with their own unique sound for an altogether novel experience.

To celebrate the release, The Scabby Ghouls will be playing alongside other local punk and hardcore bands including Stronghold, Hand-Painted Police Car, and Dummy Head Torpedo at the Lookout Lounge on Friday March 15th 2019 at 8 P.M. (Doors at 7 P.M.). $7.00 cover, all-ages show.

ARTWORK FOR THE BLIND (Death/Thrash Metal) Release New Video

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, music videos, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on March 9, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

Kentucky metallers Artwork for the Blind released a video for their track “Shoot The Moon (El Roacho)” off sophomore album II earlier this week.  The jarring political statement showcases the band’s psychedelic approach to the groove and death subgenres.

Guitarist Sol. E. Williams says of this new offering, “The new vid… Watch the details.”

Witness those details here:

About Artwork For the Blind:

In 2012, Artwork for the Blind began with an original line up of Chris Brackett (Guitarist), Sean Coy Curry (Vocalist), Mike Hoehn (Bassist), and Larry Myers (Drummer). The quartet soon began writing their first set of songs and gigging around the Louisville area. In 2014, the group released their self-produced, self-titled album to much praise in the Louisville local metal scene. Then in 2015, the group started writing and recording their second self-produced album, II.

Soon after II was released, guitarist Chris Brackett decided to bow out of the group citing health issues. The group had been recording at Louisville guitarist Sol. E. Williams house, so it was only natural that Sol. be asked to take Brackett’s place on guitar.  Almost immediately, the band began to extend its range throughout the Midwest.

Soon after joining, Sol. began writing material for a new EP.  In the summer of 2017, Artwork began recording for another self produced release. In August of 2018, the group made their third release, the 5-song EP titled A Dying Breed and the Living Proof to much acclaim in their growing following.

Currently the group is writing and recording material for a fourth release with singles expecting to be cut as the album progresses. Furthermore they expect to be scheduling shows throughout the Midwest this summer and releasing videos in support of the last summer EP.

RAGNHILD – Release A New Intense Music Video For The Track – ‘Under The Red Sky’

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , on March 7, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

Ragnhild play a very distinct style of Death Metal fusing element of Melodies and Viking Metal and offer a very unique sound that defines their brand. Their new album ‘Tavern Tales’ is slated for a March release. The first track of the album – ‘Under the Red Sky’ speaks of a powerful theme and is complimented by a strong video that holds true to the nature of the song; perhaps, that’s the speciality of it.

Commenting about the song, the guitarist Shardul comments “The Songs in the album have been composed with the general idea of how Melodic Death Metal comprising of Nordic/ Celtic melodies when mixed with heavier riffs and vocals sound. The lyrics that we wrote are basically out of our own imagination of various incidents that took place in our history. ‘Under the Red Sky’ is written with similar ideas. The lyrics talk about a fleet of soldiers that were betrayed by one of our own and by the grace of the gods, they found out about the ambush that awaits”.

OMENFILTH: Philippines Based Black Metal Practitioners To Release Devourer Of The Seven Moons Full-Length Via Eternal Death This April; New Track Streaming + Preorders Available

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on March 6, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

Philippines-based black metal practitioners OMENFILTH will release their third full length, Devourer Of The Seven Moons, on April 12th via Eternal Death.

Following the path of traditional black metal rather than the war metal influences often associated with their place of origin, Devourer Of The Seven Moons showcases the strengths of the band — eerie melodies (“The Embrace Of Solitude”), headbanging fury (“Summon The Beast Of Damnation,” “Seared By The Flames Of Bawo”), and violent upsurges (“Bakuana Ex Inferis”). Appealing more to fans of bands like Varathron or Darkthrone than Blasphemy or Von, Devourer Of The Seven Moons shows that Southeast Asian black metal is more than just sleazy goatworship and miniguns. Following the lyrical themes of the album, the artwork of Dave Fogg is based on the ancient Filipino mythological entity Bakunawa aka “The Devourer Of The Seven Moons.”

Stream / Share OMENFILTH’s “The Embrace Of Solitude” At THIS LOCATION

In advance of its official unveiling, OMENFILTH offers third track, “The Embrace Of Solitude,” for public consumption noting, “This song is a bit more melodic than anything we have previously written – it was put together by guitarist Von Necroticus when he was suffering from a depression and that comes through in the material. In a weird way, it reminds us of old Moonspell. This release is a definitive step in our career and we all think it is very strong album.”

Hear “The Embrace Of Solitude” below:

OMENFILTH‘s Devourer Of The Seven Moons will be released on CD, cassette, and digital formats. The ten-track offering includes three bonus tracks: a cover of Vulcano’s “Bloody Vengeance” and live recordings of “Equinox Of Evil” and “Fading Embers Of A Dying Era,” both from the band’s 2016 Opus Sanguinarium offering. BRUCE CORBITT Public Memorial To Take Place March 9th In Fort Worth, Texas

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , on February 14, 2019 by Metal Odyssey

A public memorial for former Rigor Mortis and Warbeast vocalist BRUCE CORBITT will be held on Saturday March 9th at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth, Texas.

CORBITT passed away on January 25th following an extensive and tireless battle with esophageal cancer. He was 56 years old. CORBITT was diagnosed in May 2017 and kept his family, friends, and fans up to date with the many trials and tribulations of his journey through regular open and honest Facebook Live updates. A true inspiration, CORBITT remained hopeful and determined even in the face of some of the grimmest circumstances and maintained his courage, drive, and positive nature though his final days.

Beyond playing a pivotal rule within the thrash/speed metal scene for over thirty years, CORBITT was a dedicated hearthealth advocate following the passing of Rigor Mortis guitarist Mike Scaccia, who died of a heart attack in 2012. CORBITT, who himself struggled with heart disease, would go on to perform Rigor Mortis material with the band’s remaining members under the moniker Wizards Of Gore in tribute to Scaccia. CORBITT took home the Best Documentary Rotscar Award at Housecore Horror Fest 2014 for his Rigor Mortis Documentary Welcome To Your Funeral which documents the band’s earliest beginnings through their signing with Capitol Records in 1987 and had been working a book which will be released initially as a limited hardcore edition with all proceeds going to the support of the CORBITT family. Stay tuned for details.

Reads the public memorial page, “We will come together to celebrate and remember a great man who touched the hearts of so many people in this world. We will show our love and support for his wife Jeanna, his daughter Chyna, his stepson Lyric, and BRUCE‘s amazing mother Glenda. We will celebrate in the most beautiful way possible by honoring BRUCE‘s final wishes to make his memorial just the way he wanted it. Additional details on special presentations, guest musicians, and other surprises are still being worked out. Stay tuned and You Know Damn Well!”

CORBITT played what he thought would be his final show with Warbeast — a special set at the annual Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards Ceremony where the band was inducted into the 2018 Fort Worth Music Hall Of Fame — last July, at the time noting, I’m really excited and thankful to the Fort Worth Weekly for showing us this much appreciation. I’m proud that I’m even feeling good enough right now to be able to attempt it. But I do know my limitations and I will be careful. All I know is I get to experience that feeling of being on stage again… and that’s why I keep on fighting. Because good things do finally happen if you can just hang in there long enough. You know damn well!”

The performance was outstanding and CORBITT continued showing signs of improvement. So much so, the band had planned to release a special Warbeast EP celebrating his strength and determination. Warbeast would play another show in October as headliners of Vulgarfest 3 at the Ridglea Theater where CORBITT again patrolled the stage against all odds. Some weeks later however, doctors found the cancer had spread again and CORBITT‘s health went on a steady decline. In CORBITT‘s honor, Warbeast will be releasing a box set which will include audio of first live show under the name Warbeast as well as video of that final Warbeast performance. Details to be released in the weeks to come.

View a live dedication to CORBITT from Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals during a recent show in Santiago, Chile at THIS LOCATION.

CORBITT’s Warbeast bandmates reflect on his passing:

Scott Shelby: “BRUCE and I have been friends since the late ’80s and were early pioneers in the Dallas/Fort Worth metal scene and later joined forces to form Warbeast. BRUCE and I worked together as a team, or as he would say the dynamic duo. We both had a vision and our own skills to make it work and that’s how we did everything that you do in a band and it worked out great for us. Unfortunately, you don’t notice all the great things in a person until they die and what my friend did for Texas metal and our scene and branching out to the rest of the world is a huge loss in itself let alone all he did for others in need; doing many benefit gigs for various people… everything he and we did was done in a big style with flawless production! I could go on and on but all our peers in the business know what I’m talking about. There is a huge hole in my life, in our scene, and in the metal industry. He was a great man. I miss you, BRUCE. We had so much unfinished business. Rest in Beast.”

Joey “Blue” Gonzalez:BRUCE CORBITT was my bandmate one of my best friends. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his help and guidance. He will always be with me on and off stage. We all will continue to share the music he created so the world will never forget. CORBITT Forever.”

Drew Shoup: “I was 17 years old and it was 2012. I was still in high school at a small ski resort town in Colorado called Crested Butte. There was absolutely no metal there and when Down/Warbeast came to Denver (which was five hours away) I knew I had to go. I hadn’t ever seen either band; I just knew of them through following Housecore. That was the night that completely changed my life. After experiencing it I knew that THAT was what I wanted to do. Warbeast was so high energy and instantly became my favorite band. I was obsessed. Fast forward two years later and they had lost their guitar player. This was my chance. I moved all the way from Colorado down to DFW just to try out and join this band. It was so surreal jamming along with these dudes that I idolized (and still do). BRUCE brought in a 19-year-old kid and pretty much a complete stranger to join his band. I know he had so many other choices in this town that he could’ve picked but he gave me a chance and had faith in me. BRUCE made me feel so welcome in the Dallas scene and made me feel like a part of a family. He truly cared about people and he was a great man. He was always doing benefit shows in the scene and always involved. Watching him struggle and suffer in pain was the worst thing I’ve experienced yet. Nobody deserves to go through that. Especially someone like BRUCE. Playing alongside him and working with him was absolutely surreal and a dream come true. He was such a great bandmate, brother, father, son, singer, friend, and person in general. I would do anything to play one more show with him. I feel for his wife Jeanna, his daughter Chyna, and his stepson Lyric. BRUCE is immortal now through his music in Warbeast and Rigor Mortis. He will be missed by everyone. Rest In Peace, Batman.”

Warbeast released their Enter The Arena full-length in 2017 Housecore Records. The record — which featured Corbitt and Shelby alongside then-new-members guitarist Drew Shoup and bassist Lyric Ferchaud — was recorded at Philip H. Anselmo’s Nodferatu’s Lair, mixed by Mike Thompson at the Riff Factory, and mastered by Lee Russell. For physical orders go to THIS LOCATION.
