Chicago Blackened Death Thrash troupe, IMMORTAL BIRD, are pleased to announce the release of their debut EP. Titled Akrasia, the abrasive manifestation of audio filth was recorded at Lo-Tech Laboratories this past summer by unsung Windy City sound sorcerer Jeff Ziolo, mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High On Fire, Skeletonwitch) at Godcity Studio, mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, From Ashes Rise, Nails, All Pigs Must Die) at Audiosiege and delivers four scathingly visceral tracks of torment. Led by the diseased vocal oscillations of drummer/front woman Rae Amitay, IMMORTAL BIRD is at once celestial and deadly.

Comments Amitay of the offering:“‘Akrasia’ is the state of acting against one’s better judgment, or weakness of will. The EP is centered around this concept, and the tracks serve to explore feelings of rage, resentment, and anguish that have resulted from ‘akratic’ behavior — mostly my own. The riffs, lyrics, and overall tone are meant to reflect both intensely caustic anger and moments of poignant self-realization. Writing and recording this EP was initially intended to be a cathartic and one-time experience, signifying the beginning and the end of IMMORTAL BIRD, but after collaborating with my bandmates and performing live, I’ve realized that this is a project that will press onward both in the studio and on the road. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to work with Kurt Ballou and Brad Boatright, as they’re complete commanders of their craft. This music could not have been placed in better hands, and that is an amazing feeling.”

IMMORTAL BIRD took its perverted form when drummer Rae Amitay (Thrawsunblat) yearned to step out from behind the confines of her drum kit, write some riffs and scream. With those dreams in tow, she enlisted the help of longtime friend/guitarist Evan Berry (Wilderun, Replacire) and bassist John Picillo. With Amitay opting to handle the mic onstage (while tackling drums and vocals on their albums), Garry Naples (Novembers Doom, Kastasyde, Without Waves) was recruited to take on all live drumming duties.

KAYSER – Swedish Metal Band Signs With Listenable Records

Swedish Thrash purists KAYSER have just signed a long-term deal with Listenable Records. KAYSER has just completed work on their Listenable debut, entitled Read Your Enemy. The album is set for release in early 2014. The band is currently working with Sinemax Productions on a video for as-of-yet-unnamed track. More details to come.

KAYSER saw the first ray of light in early June 2004 when Spice (ex Spiritual Beggars), Mattias Svensson (also The Defaced), Bob Ruben (ex The Mushroom River Band) and Fredrik Finnander decided to join forces to create a pure Metal band. The band’s sound is fully immersed in true original Heavy/Thrash Metal genre with emphasis on the muscular songwriting : hammering blistering and catchy riffs one after another, delivering the goods through scorching witty arrangements with fluid virtuosity. Focus always lies on the song, easily identifiable through the supreme vocals by Spice, though the emotional and musical expressions stretch from heavy introvert pounding to pure hate driven ferocity.

“No boundaries and no limits… and that goes for everything,” the members stated initially to set the aim straight. As for comparisons, it might be best described as a mutation of Black Sabbath/Megadeth/Slayer with dips from different good bowls of Classic and Modern Metal. Popular for their incendiary shows, KAYSER enforces the pillars of metal with absolute authority. KAYSER became a much talked about live act among the Metal fans, rampaging cities across Europe with bands like VOLBEAT and more.

DESTRUCTION – REMINISCE ROCK IN RIO

DESTRUCTION – After taking part in this years’ Rock In Rio Festival, German Thrash Metal veterans DESTRUCTION reminisce on what will definitely stick out as a highlight of their long-lasting career. The legendary mega event started in 1985 with top acts like QUEEN, AC/DC, THE SCORPIONS, IRON MAIDEN and many more, playing in front of 1, 3 million visitors. The following events Rock In Rio II and Rock In Rio III took place with a ten years between them – in 1991 and 2001. In 2004 the festival relocated from Rio de Janeiro to Lisbon and in an additional version in Madrid. For its tenth anniversary, Rock In Rio returned to its roots. This years’ Rock In Rio, which was again held in the Brazilian capital, saw another brilliant line-up featuring SEPULTURA, IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA and of course DESTRUCTION.

Front force Schmier (Bass, Vocals & Hate) commented stunned:

“The air was clearly filled with tension before our appearance at the biggest and most renowned Festival of our time. In Brazil and even all of Latin America this event brings along giant media coverage, in a way I’ve never seen before. During an entire week all performances are aired live on TV, newspapers feature specials and cover stories, soda cans have special printings on them and everybody is only talking about the festival. The pride of the whole nation is focused on Rio during these nine days! Even soccer is second string for this period and we all know how important it is to Latin American countries! Even for ripped-off geezers like us there are still highlights to come and Rock In Rio festival with its fan euphoria (at the airport there were fans jumping at your every other moment) was a sensational experience. Before it we’ve already spend a week in South America getting ready and we were hot! The show, were our Brazilian buddies of KRISIUN supported us as guests, was just as insane as one imagines it to be with this kind of magnitude in Brazil. Several huge circlepits and tens of thousands of fists in the air celebrating the German Thrash Metal as if we had reinvented it! Total madness! When I come to look back on my carrier someday, Rock In Rio will stick out as one of its highlights. Having the people go nuts because of the event for almost a week, in a way that is only possible in Brazil: Pure joy of life and euphoria together with the ferocity of the latinos! Just terrific! Thank you Brazil for having us experience this, the craziest fans on earth definitely live in Latin America!!!”

On September 27th, 1986, Clifford Lee “Cliff” Burton passed away from injuries sustained in a bus accident, in Sweden, at the very young age of 24. It seems like yesterday, when I first heard the tragic news. I feel lucky, no, I feel blessed that I was able to see Cliff Burton perform live on stage, with Metallica, so many years ago.

There shall never be another bassist like Cliff Burton. I and my fellow Metal brethren shall celebrate the Metal accomplishments of Cliff Burton, today and every day. Life is to be cherished. Metal be thy name.

New York City thrashers GenerationKillOfficial have revealed the artwork & track listing for WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE, the band’s second studio album to be released in North America on November 26th.

“We achieved our goal of creating something that we all are so proud of,” states GENERATION KILL frontman & lyricist Rob Dukes, who also fronts the Bay Area thrash band Exodus.

“We called this album We’re All Gonna Die because for the most part the lyrics are about the darker side of the existence of humans on this planet. The album as a whole is so diverse, drawing from our influences that we grew up on. I personally think this is the strongest vocal performance of my career, and as a band, we can’t wait for the hard rock/metal world to hear this album.”
