EYEHATEGOD – Forced To Cancel September Shows

Posted in Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , , on September 8, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Eyehategod - classic band logo - 090815 - MMNSS - SCR33

EYEHATEGOD has been forced to cancel their recently announced September performances. Said the band in an official statement, “Due to an unfortunate turn of events, EYEHATEGOD has sadly been forced to postpone their four show September run this week. Many apologies to everyone with plans to see the band. EYEHATEGOD promises to make up these gigs ASAP. Housecore Horror Fest is still on the schedule for November and we are looking extremely forward to that.”

EYEHATEGOD released their Billboard-charting, self-titled LP last year breaking the band’s decade-and-a-half gap since their prior full-length and marking the most successful release in the band’s twenty-five-year lineage. Noisey crowned the offering, “…the record that EHG fans have been waiting for; a stomping and venomous set of eleven tracks that reignite the band’s amazing propensity for down-trodden, electric blues,” while Cvlt Nation proclaimed, “Everything we have loved for a quarter of a century about this band is all here, shimmering and glowing with more intensity than ever before… a classic EYEHATEGOD record… The legend lives on!”

Orders for EyeHateGod in North America can be placed via Housecore Records HERE.

Philip H. Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Festival Returning For Year Three

Posted in Extreme Metal, horror movies, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , on May 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Housecore Horror Festival - November 2015 - promo flyer - #111315MOPHA

Legendary metal frontman and Housecore Records founder, Philip H. Anselmo, is bringing his horror-themed film and metal festival back for a third year. After a great ride in Austin, the festival will kick off in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater on November 13th – 15th, 2015.

The decision to return was driven by the desire to honor his friend and festival co-founder, Corey Mitchell, who tragically passed away last October. Mitchell was the driving creative force behind the festival’s success and Anselmo believes there is no better way to pay tribute to his friend than to carry on for a third year.

“I’ve got a great team in place to help make this what Corey and I wanted it to be,” he says. “There are a lot of mixed emotions here because no one can replace him. But, we know he would want this to continue and so that’s what we’re going to do. We miss him and think about him every day.”

Bands already confirmed to play are Suffocation, AutopsyCripple Bastards, Nails, SYk & Dalila KayrosYOBEyehategod, Child BiteWarbeast and many more to be announced soon. Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor will be booking bands this year and will help Anselmo craft a musical lineup that would make Mitchell proud.

In addition to showcasing the best in extreme metal, the festival will screen film gems from the personal vaults of both Anselmo and Mitchell. Horror filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films and winners will be selected in various categories and given the coveted Rot-Scar Award. “When Corey and I started this thing, it was important to us that we help independent filmmakers get their incredible work discovered,” Anselmo continues. “Nothing has changed, in that respect.”

Tickets to go on sale soon! Stay tuned for additional announcements.

SIGH – Legendary Japanese Avant Extreme Metal Quintet To Release Tenth Studio Album Via Candlelight Next Month

Posted in Extreme Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on April 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sigh - Graveward - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #9909SMO

Japanese extreme metal/noise icons, SIGH, will unveil their crushing tenth studio opus next month. Titled Graveward, the eclectic, ten-track offering took over two-and-a-half years to complete with each song comprising over one-hundred recording tracks exceeding 100GB of audio to select from in the final mixes. Inspired by musician/composer Fabio Frizzi, Graveward pays homage to Italian zombie and Hammer Horror classics.

Graveward features guest performances from Trivium’s Matthew Heafy, DragonForce’s Fred Leclercq, Shining’s Niklas Kvarforth, Rotting Christ’s Sakis Tolis, The Meads Of Asphodel’s Metatron and others with fittingly twisted, grave-robbing cover art by Costin Chioreanu (Ihsahn, At the Gates, Deicide, Ulver, etc.).

In an early impression of the record, A Metal State Of Mind notes, “With a focus of a theme, more touches of thrash, and guest spots from more ‘mainstream’ metal artists from bands like Trivium and DragonForce, I would have to say Graveward is the most accessible SIGH record. A great starting point to delve into the madness with if you haven’t yet. Best thing, with this accessibility, none of the experimentation that makes SIGH great has been sacrificed.”

Already devouring the hordes in Europe, Graveward will be released in North America via Candlelight Records on May 4th, 2015.

Sigh - Graveward - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #9909SMO

Graveward – Track Listing:

1. Kaedit Nos Pestis
2. Graveward
3. The Tombfiller
4. The Forlorn
5. The Molesters Of My Soul
6. Out Of the Grave
7. The Trial By The Dead
8. The Casketburner
9. A Messenger From Tomorrow
10. Dwellers In Dream

For over two decades, SIGH has been transcending the confines of extreme metal. Forged in 1989 in Tokyo, Japan, the band was initially signed by Euronymous’ infamous Deathlike Silence Records on which they released their debut full-length, Scorn Defeat, in 1993. SIGH would go on to release records via various imprints including Cacophonous, Century Media, Baphomet and The End before making Candlelight Records their label home with the release of 2012’s crushing, critically-adored In Somniphobia and this year’s Graveward.

Preorder Graveward via Candlelight Records at THIS LOCATION.

SIGH:

Mirai Kawashima – vocals, keyboards, orchestrations etc.

Dr. Mikannibal – alto, tenor, baritone saxophones, vocals

Satoshi Fujinami – bass, drums

GEHTIKA – Announce New Album And Launch Kickstarter Campaign!

Posted in Extreme Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on March 18, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Gehtika - live band promo pic - 2015 - #3909GMO

Gehtika are sitting on a time bomb! After spending the past eight months writing a follow-up to 2013’s Impossible Question, the band are now and have been for the past week, holed up at Loud Noises Productions in JJM Studios, Walsall, recording a brand new album. This new record follows a concept the band has initially explored on recent single ‘Stack The Pyres’.

Listen to ‘Stack The Pyres’ Here!

The extreme metal outfit from England’s Midlands have also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring their latest artistic madness to fruition. Vocalist Anthony Knight comments, “We have worked tirelessly over the past seven to eight months writing, rehearsing and perfecting this absolute behemoth of an album; making sure every aspect of every song is as epic as can be.”

“We wanted to create something unique, something with tons of big riffs, sweeping solos, fierce vocals and enough blast beats to make your ears bleed! And so, from the deepest darkest reaches of our twisted little minds, our heaviest, most accomplished, release to date; A Monster in Mourning was born! A collection of dark, brooding and brutal compositions, which travel through a larger-than-life fantasy saga of betrayal, vengeance, redemption and countless revelations…”

“We’re extremely proud of what we have created; this album is an absolute BEAST, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you!”

The band’s Kickstarter campaign aims to help fund the actual release of the album and will also offer fans some limited edition merchandise and rewards, such as album pre-orders, handwritten framed lyric sheets, album art prints, shirts and other merchandise, VIP tickets to shows and much more. Check out the Kickstarter video which explains album plans and the campaign in more detail.

Gehtika - classic band logo - 2015 - #0113GMO

Gehtika have been kicking asses and assaulting the senses with their punishing brand of extreme metal and entertaining live performances for the past four years. After the release of their debut EP in 2013, the band went on to play the New Blood Stage at the UK’s Bloodstock Open Air Festival after winning their local Metal to the Masses competition. Impressed by their theatrical yet chaotic live show, Gehtika were asked back to Bloodstock Open Air Festival 2014 for the prestigious task of opening up the Sophie Lancaster Stage.

A Monster in the Mourning is due for release later this year.

The Kennedy Veil’s Gabe Seeber Releases First of Several Drum Playthrough Videos

Posted in Drums, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , , on February 16, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Black Seeber - Gabe Seeber - logo - green on black - #2015MO

There are many, many artists in music today, from Pop to Metal that would not be who they are or where they are without YouTube. The possibilities are endless when the right song or video begins to make the rounds and ends up achieving ‘viral’ status that was typically never expected or intended. And while that type of infectious sharing is never the case with Extreme Metal, bands and artists consistently creating content can still manage to reach a much larger audience through YouTube’s massive (google enhanced) reach and suggestive sidebar links.

Knowing all of that, The Kennedy Veil‘s own Gabe Seeber has decided to get more involved in creating content for fans to watch and share around. The first of several upcoming Drum Playthroughs to be released, is ‘Mental Crucifixion,’ a track by melodic tech death band Vale of Pnath, from the 2011 album, Prodigal Empire. You can check out the playthrough video at this location or below:

Also be sure to subscribe and stay tuned to Gabe’YouTube Channel to be the first to see all of the upcoming drum playthrough videos he has planned for 2015.

2014 was a banner year for Gabe, with The Kennedy Veil releasing their debut album, ‘Trinity of Falsehood‘ on January 21, 2014 via Unique Leader Records, and immediately hitting the road in support of the album alongside labelmates Lord of War and ArkaikGabe was also a member of Sacramento tech death outfit and Unique Leader labelmates, AlterbeastGabe re-recorded the drums for what would become that band’s UL debut album, ‘Immortal,’ which saw a release in March of 2014.

In late Spring of 2014, Gabe confirmed that he would once again be the touring drummer for Decrepit Birth for their Summer Slaughter Tour run, alongside death metal legends Morbid AngelDying Fetus and more. About a month after returning home from Summer SlaughterGabe hit the road with Alterbeast, alongside Chelsea Grin and headliners Suicide Silence and The Black Dahlia Murder for a month-long tour across North America, which included being a part of the VIP Kick Off Party for Knotfest in San Bernardino, CA. In late 2014, Gabe officially parted ways with Alterbeast in order to focus more on The Kennedy Veil.

Ctulu was formed in 2004 by Mathias Junge and ex-member Stefan Schulz. The band has gone through various line-up changes over the years and the Sarkomand line-up features ex-members Jan Westermann (Diablery, Released Anger) on drums, Rolf Quast-Janßen (Lunar Eclipse) on vocal duties, along with Arne Uekert and Mathias Junge on guitars.

Despite its line-up changes, Ctulu has never given up and has put their original Seastorming Extreme Metal on the map of Heavy Metal. With their experience of live performances – including a tour with Taake, Ragnarök Festival (DE), Infernal Damnation (UK) and various shows outside their homeland, the band is stronger than ever.

Having a powerful member line-up featuring Junge and Uekert both on guitar and vocal duties, Roman Szymura (AEBA) on drums and Lasse Bodenstein on bass, the Germans are now working on their fourth full-length which will see a return to the catchy, straightforward – but not lacking in atmosphere – black metal which is found on Sarkomand.

Upcoming shows:

02. 20 – Frostfeuernächte – KiEZ Hölzerner See, Germany
03. 13 – Magazinkeller, Bremen, Germany (Freie Geister Festival co-organised by the band)
06. 19-21 – Gardelegen, Germany (Metal Frenzy Open Air)
08. 14 – Moscow, Russia
08. 15 – Tula, Russia (Blackened Life Festival)

Castle Freak - Still Rotting - Cassette Artwork promo pic - 2014

4 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall4

CASTLE FREAK – What do you get when you mix Death Metal, Punk, Thrash, Horror Metal and Extreme together? The end Metal result is an underground band known as: CASTLE FREAK. From parts unknown and signed to Tridroid Records, CASTLE FREAK plays some damn good, fast and very heavy stuff at that. Yes, CASTLE FREAK are quite good at this Metal thing they’re into. Even the album, um, cassette artwork is freaking underground!

With vocals that resonate the angst of Punk and pissed-off aura of Extreme Metal, I have found myself very pleased with every listen, indeed. Underground Metal should kick severe ass and this Still Rotting album has kicked my ass. All five songs on Still Rotting are decent beyond hell and serve as a Metal treat for those of us that still believe in the blue-collar Metal alleyways and hidden Metal fields of dreams. Metal be thy name – Stone.

Crank Up and BUY Some CASTLE FREAK, Below! Whoa!

THE CRINN – Return With A New Track, Reveal Artwork For Forthcoming Album ‘Shadowbreather’

Minnesota’s Extreme Metal experimentalists, THE CRINN, have returned with a face melting new track entitled Silent Betrayer!! Little has been heard from the band since the release of their debut full length album, Dreaming Saturn, via Nuclear Blast Records back in 2010. Aside from a few one-off live performances and few and far between social media updates, THE CRINN have been excessively quiet over the last few years.

All that changes with the release of Silent Betrayer, which is taken from their forthcoming album Shadowbreather. Silent Betrayer is now streaming via THE CRINN‘s Bandcamp page, as well as their Official YouTube Channel. The artwork for Shadowbreather has also been revealed and can be seen (below).

Above: cover art for Shadowbreather

Vocalist John Nelson had the following to say about the upcoming release:It has been a long 4 years since we released our first full length record, Dreaming Saturn, and we are beyond pumped to showcase “Silent Betrayer” from our upcoming album entitled SHADOWBREATHER! The first thing people might notice, contrary to our last release, is that the new album was not formed as a concept. The direction we went with was to write individual songs that are somewhat shorter in length, more in line with our Self-Titled EP. Stylistically we have no rules. We write what comes to us. These songs are a true expression of our experimental nature with a bit of a focus on making our sound meaner and heavier. We really hope you enjoy “Silent Betrayer,” and we will be releasing more news on the album soon!!!

THE CRINN – Silent Betrayer:

Shadowbreather was recorded at Signaturetone Recording with producer/engineer Adam Tucker. A release date has not yet been set.

2014 also marks a decade of existence for THE CRINN, having formed during August of 2004 in St. Paul, MN. From its inception, the band decided to use an explorative writing style, without concern for genre exclusivity due to their frustration with the average and mundane, breakdown oriented metal scene. Their mixture of technical riffs, off-time grooves and jarring transitions has led to the band being labeled as mathcore, techmetal, techgrind, jazzmetal and even noodlegrind. Fans of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and PSYOPUS owe it to themselves to give THE CRINN a listen!

Foul Body Autopsy - Tom Reynolds - promo pic - 2014 - #668

Grindscene Records today reveals a swell in their roster, having picked up emerging Extreme Metal one man outfit Foul Body Autopsy.

Label manager Pete Clarke comments: “We are thrilled to welcome Foul Body Autopsy onto our roster. FBA formed in 2010 and has been carving its name into the UK for 4 years now. This one-man army will be releasing a new 2 track EP entitled ‘So Close To Dehumanization’ unto the world on November 4th 2014.”

Armed with an iPod, guitar and a desire to crush skulls, Foul Body Autopsy is a one-man band from Leicester City founded by Metal maverick Tom Reynolds. Over the space of 4 years Tom has released a full-length album and is now working with Equivalence Music Management & Grindscene Records, planning for a full Metal tirade in the UK.

Prior to this Tom has played Bloodstock Open Air and has shared the stage with the likes of Prostitute Disfigurement, Flayed Disciple, Cancerous Womb, General Surgery, Aeon, Cerebral Bore, Panic Cell, Cannabis Corpse, Decapitated, Aborted, Basement Torture Killings, Amputated, Ageless Oblivion, Leng Tch’e, Thy Art Is Murder, Scordatura and Carnal Decay.

With pure shred techniques, blistering speed and no lack of humour within his show this is a unique show that should not be missed.

Tom comments on the signing: “I’m very proud to be on Grindscene Records; in fact it was the only UK label I wanted to be on.”

VILE REGRESSION – Reveal New Record Details

Posted in Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, music news, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , on May 12, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Vile Regression - promo band pic - 2014 - #9083

Formed from the ashes of Irish Extreme Metal outfit Vistor Q; Vile Regression hit the scene in 2010 and released their debut record ‘The Pattern Evolves’ in 2011 via Casket Music.

Much to critics praise, Vile Regression went on from the release to share stages with prolific heavyweights such as Dyscarnate, Fleshgod Apocalypse and Unearth.

After building a reputation as a tight and energetic new addition to the Extreme Metal underground, 2013 saw the band head back to the studio to record a new installment… ‘Empires’.

Today the Irish Extreme Metal outfit release details for ‘Empires’ and the track listing which can be seen below.

1) Tides
2) Raze The Complexity
3) Dream Of The Red Chamber
4) Thought Replication
5) The Abstract
6) Down To A Sunless Sea
7) The Empyrean Divide

‘Empires’ will be released independently on July 21st 2014.
Comments the band: “We feel, ‘Empires’ is a very powerful word, invoking strength and confidence. The title came from the overarching theme within the lyrics, that being, positivity and empowerment in one’s life.”

“While ‘The Pattern Evolves’ dealt with very specific themes of corruption and governments, ‘Empires’ is much more positive. Lyrically the songs deal with different aspects of human emotions such as reaching your potential in life and being the master of your own empire. Songs such as ‘Raze The Complexity’ and ‘The Abstract’ are basically about being confident in yourself and purging the toxic and harmful elements around you.”
