The second album “Antireligion” followed in June 2010.

The band’s upcoming third album, entitled “Martya Xwar”, is going to be released on November 23rd via Massacre Records!

SILENCER – Denver Thrashers To Release “The Great Bear” On September 25th, 2012

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal with tags , , , , , , on June 28, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Denver Thrashers SILENCER will release The Great Bear on September 25th. The album is the group’s third full-length album and their first concept record. The band has this to say about the music of The Great Bear, an approach that took the band back to its heavy metal roots:

Silencer has followed a steady progression of thrash through the years, bordering on the extreme on recent releases. On this album we rewind to more 70’s and 80’s influences, aiming to bring a bit more rock back into metal without sacrificing any punch; things like big choruses and hooks as opposed to our previous works’ all out intensity and such. We were definitely influenced by concept albums such as Rush’s 2112 and Queensryche’s Operation: Mindcrime (among others) in putting together our story. This album musically is more denim, spikes, spit and vodka than anything we’ve done.

Conceptually, SILENCER takes a look at the U.S-Soviet space race of the 1950s/1960s and asks some “what if” questions.

Lyrically, we rewind back to space race era Soviet Russia, and we chose to take a fictional turn towards what would have happened if the Russians chose to one-up the American’s moon landing by going somewhere further. We tell the story from the Russian perspective, and try to capture the mentality of a union that could mobilize their entire population to achieve a goal, and also from the perspective of a member of this mission. This sort of story almost wrote itself, and its mood lent us to write some more straightforward yet very heavy tracks. It’s definitely more thematic than prior releases, but aims to get to the point and tell a large story fairly efficiently.

The Great Bear will be distributed by Vanity Music Group and will be available in stores, iTunes and Amazon MP3. Available physical formats are CD and limited edition 180-gram vinyl. SILENCER will be performing on select warm-up dates and are in the planning stages for tours following the album’s release.

The Great Bear Artwork & Track Listing:

1. Sacred War

2. I Am Thunder!

3. 1969

4. Great Bear

5. Insignia

6. Star City pt. I

7. Star City pt. II

8. Orders/Noble Sacrifice

9. The Roar

10. Light

11. The First, The Last

SILENCER History:

Formed in 1998, Silencer began their career on the strength of two self-released EPs Kozmos (2000) and Structures (2002). Built on a foundation of thrash, Silencer added increasing amounts of melody, intensity and high concept. Almost immediately these became highly sought after in the metal underground, as the band shipped copies box after box both domestically and overseas to independent distributors, boosted by a slew of strong worldwide ‘zine reviews.

Many more copies were moved as a result of their heavy gigging schedule which saw them crisscross the western US several times, appearing at a number of signature metal festivals, and anywhere else that would let them plug-in.  Silencer’s first official release came in the form of Found on the Sun (2003), released by Italy’s Steelheart Records and earning the band its first real European distribution. After more domestic touring, the band moved to a five piece and began work on their first full length album entitled Death of Awe (2005), released on Mausoleum Records.

The band further pushed their thrash roots to breakneck speeds on this release, signifying the largest step yet in their progression. Another western US run later, the band regrouped to write the follow-up. Equally dense and furious as the prior release, the band focused on a more epic delivery of their now very cutting edge thrash sound. In early 2009 Divisions was released on F-Bomb Records.

Metal Hammer’s revered Malcolm Dome wrote about Divisions, “Silencer have learnt the cunning art of writing songs with a purpose. There’s still life in thrash”. Now after another musical evolution and a lineup change that reverts the band back to a familiar four piece, Silencer rewinds the influence clock a few decades back and tackles their first concept record. Musically more direct than previous album, The Great Bear releases worldwide September  2012.

ORANGE GOBLIN – Video Premiere Of “Acid Trial” Courtesy Of Metal Injection

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Metal Injection, in cooperation with Scion A/V, unleashes ORANGE GOBLIN’s mammoth “Acid Trial” video. The track comes off the band’s A Eulogy For The Damned full-length released via Candlelight Records earlier this year. “Acid Trial” was directed by Tom J. Cronin offers up four-and-a-half minutes of psychedelic live footage, sharp visuals, hot ladies and general ass kickery.

Take at peep at THIS LOCATION.

A Eulogy For The Damned is ORANGE GOBLIN’s seventh studio album and first under the Candlelight Records banner. The offering continues to reap praise for its pure, sonic awesomeness from fans and critics nationally:

Popdose called it  “…pretty damn fantastic. Rockin’, riff-tastic and possibly the best record from start to finish that they’ve released yet.” Blistering crowned it “…a total pure-bred metal album,” adding that, “there’s not a trace of fluff or even a sideways idea to be found, which makes its execution all the more impressive,” while Decibel proclaimed: “Long-haired limeys, maximum riffage and turbo doom. Biker rock. From England. And it’s pretty awesome.” Metal Underground agreed: “With a sound that splits the difference between Sabbath and Motörhead, ORANGE GOBLIN serves up a potent dose of ’70s-style metal on A Eulogy For The Damned. Gloomy doom and punk power have seldom sounded so good together,”while About.com added: Orange Goblin’s A Eulogy For The Damned… is a lesson for the lesser ones. This is how to make a solid heavy metal album. It’s how the Chimera roars when it wants everyone to hear.”

SHADOWS FALL “Fire From The Sky” – A First-Rate Metal Execution, From New England’s Metal Ambassadors

Posted in Metal with tags , , , , , , on June 27, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

SHADOWS FALL – The seventh studio album, Fire From The Sky, from Shadows Fall was released back on May 15th, 2012, via Razor & Tie. I bought my (unedited) copy at Super Walmart. That’s correct. Super Walmart. There are no cool and independent record stores anywhere near where I live, thus Super Walmart is my Metal pimp. I’ll have to admit I like Fire From The Sky a great deal and I’ll tell you why, (here and there).

I’ve always gravitated towards Shadows Fall’s sound. Enjoying their catalog of albums has come about quite easily for me. Maybe it’s cause I like quality Metal. Maybe it’s due to my being born and raised in New England? Over the years, I’ve never seemed to find anything that I dislike about the Metal of Shadows Fall. Even if there is some loyalty to the Boston Red Sox within the Shadows Fall band, I still feel they kick legitimate Metal ass. Their Metal has never failed to raise my adrenaline level a notch or two.

I have read many positive reviews for Fire From The Sky and deservedly so. A few reviews I’ve read have made me chuckle. A consistent “negative” jab at this new Fire From The Sky album has been that it’s “nothing new” and “it’s the same old” from Shadows Fall. Whoa. Stop right there. For decades, the likes of RUSH, Iron MaidenAC/DC and Motörhead have essentially stuck to their musical blueprints and have released “the same old” too. Therefore, I am guessing that Shadows Fall are in legendary Metal company then, huh? Sometimes the “let’s change for change sake” school of thought in Metal is better left for another day.

What do some people want nowadays? Did they expect Shadows Fall to release an album that sounded like Men Without Hats meets KROKUS? Do these same critics want Tony Bennet to record an Industrial Metal album? I’ve never bought into the “same old club” and never will. It’s like that ancient Metal troll that lives deep in the Pennsylvania wilderness once told me: “Stone, if it ain’t broke, d-d-d-on’t f-f-fix it”.

Shadows Fall have evolved musically as a band and that’s change alone. One only needs to listen to their albums in succession to understand that. Critics who’ve only listened to Fire From The Sky and no other Shadows Fall album and decide to use the words “same old” only allows their Metal credibility to stick out like a swollen and sore thumb.

The beefy Thrash Metal sound meets (melodic) Metalcore is what I jump up and down for most from Shadows Fall. Yes, there are Melodic Death Metal tendencies/vocals, only Shadows Fall is not Amon Amarth for crap sakes. (Amon Amarth Rules, by the way). Shadows Fall rules on Fire From The Sky and this is yet another album that finishes and I’m like: “What the F**K, keep going! Don’t end now!”

This is a damn excellent album from a damn excellent band. They’ve sharpened their Metal skills once again. The intensity, heavy grooves, brain imprinting harsh and harmonious vocals, impressive guitar parts (all), eye-popping drumming, smart lyrics and grand song structures are all back from Shadows Fall on Fire From The Sky. I’ll take the “same old” from this band 24/7 and on a month of Sundays. Adam Dutkiewicz has produced and engineered yet another tremendous album and I’m now bestowing this nickname upon him: Modern Metal Marvel. Metal be thy name.

WIG WAM “Wall Street” – Glam! Bam! Hot Damn! It’s Dazzling, Anti-Greed Rock ‘N Roll!

Posted in glam metal, glam rock, Hair Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 26, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

WIG WAM – Winners of the Eurovision Song Contest with In My Dreams in 2005, touring heavily at home and internationally and achieving Gold and Platinum selling success, Norway’s WIG WAM is back at it again with a solid album of dazzling Rock ‘N Roll and it’s titled: Wall Street. This is WIG WAM Glam style. Wall Street was released on May 18th, via Frontiers Records. This is an album that brings the 80’s bright lights and color, while combining the spaciously loud atmosphere of yesteryear’s Arena Rock with Hair Metal attitude, style and sound.

The admirable accomplishment  here with Wall Street, is that WIG WAM ties in plenty of relevant vibes within their songs, steering away from being just another Glam tribute band to a decade long gone. Just when it seems like the world doesn’t need one more loud 80’s influenced Glam band, WIG WAM is reminding the masses that this genre isn’t going away and its music is being gobbled up by generations of fans. A miracle? Nope. Blame it on the spirit and mystique of Rock ‘N Roll.

Yes, WIG WAM carries their 80’s and early 90’s Glam/Hard Rock influences on their sleeves and good for them. WIG WAM have written songs with substance; lyrically in much better taste than Steel Panther and that’s always a plus with Stone. A Norwegian sliver-of-sound will undoubtedly be heard and felt from WIG WAM; Victory Is Sweet is just that song which summons up the spirited Hard Rockin’ sound from that part of the world… and it’s exhilarating to hear.

As with the title track and The Bigger The Better, these are songs that point out social excess when it comes to money, greed and materialistic wants. The album cover alone should be an indication that there will be a greed theme hidden within the lyrical content heard here. I’m not going to get political here, only I applaud WIG WAM for sounding out on the strive for excessive wealth; that same excessive wealth in which no one can take with ’em when they’re dead and buried anyways.

Teeny on guitar lays down more licks than my neighbors dog abby (when she is greeting anyone that goes near her). Glam on vocals is no Bret Michaels, Vince Neil or Steve “Sex” Summers. Nope. He’s Glam. It’s so refreshing to not hear a carbon-copy vocalist and even more refreshing when such vocalist like Glam is as damn good and cool to listen to. A talented bunch of Glam Rockers are these dudes from Norway. WIG WAM = (gulp) fun, fun, fun and they can surefire Rock the gilded palace down!

The album closer Things Money Can’t Buy is a heightened instrumental, getting its muscle from Teeny’s guitar. Just those sweet vibrations and tones alone tell the whole story here for me, it’s as if I can insert my own lyrics to this song and they would include family, friends, Metal Buddies and special, personal, memorable moments in time… all “things money can’t buy”.

Reigning Queen of Metal DORO PESCH is featured in Decibel Magazine’s August 2012 special “Women In Metal” issue. In an interview conducted by J. DORO’s Raise Your Fist album was recorded and written in the U.S., Germany, and Scandinavia and will be released in North America this Fall. “Most important to me are the power hymns ‘Raise Your Fist In The Air’ and ‘Victory,’” DORO has previously stated. “Both songs have been played live on our last tour and also made last year’s Wacken Open Air shake!”

Musical guests on Raise Your Fist include Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and Ozzy/Firewind guitarist Gus G. Album artwork has once again been created by British artist and longtime collaborator Geoffrey Gillespie.

FASTKILL “Bestial Thrashing Bulldozer” – This Album Title Says It All, My Metal Brethren

Posted in Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news, Thrash Metal, thrash metal bands with tags , , , , , on June 25, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

FASTKILL – I’ve been reminded that Thrash Metal is still dangerous. I’ve also been reminded that Thrash Metal can truly be an underground goliath. Thrash Metal that sounds lethally raw and potently rabid has filled my ears once again. Maniacal vocals and psychotic Speed-Thrash have arrived to my Metal part; it’s full F’n throttle and sonically explosive on all counts. Administering an undeniable who-gives-a-shit if you like what we’re playing attitude… has arrived like a long-lost Metal buddy from my college daze. (Oops, I meant to write college “days”). This is not an F’n dream. This is not an F’n rumor. This is all real. They’re from Japan and are known as… FASTKILL.

FASTKILL taps into some old school hell pits of sound, like it’s nectar from the Thrash Metal Gods. These guys have been around long enough to know which era of Thrash is most sacred, this new album proves it. I honestly cannot vision any red-blooded Thrash Metal fan not wanting to spread the word on FASTKILL, once they get their brains charred from Bestial Thrashing Bulldozer. From the opening scream on Kill Fast, there’s no let-up of raging riffs, concrete shattering bass and accelerated drumming. 100% hostile Thrashing in all of its glorious pissed-off form.

There’s no mistaken that FASTKILL are enamored by the vicious side of Thrash Metal and less concerned about any modern stylings that can water down the impact. I applaud the virulent spirit of Thrash that FASTKILL plays and I gleefully salute them for it. I couldn’t be more elated that FASTKILL torched my Metal senses with Bestial Thrashing Bulldozer. Metal be thy name.

THE GARDNERZ – Reveal Track List and Artwork For Upcoming EP “It All Fades”

Posted in doom metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on June 24, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

Swedish Doomsters The Gardnerz have unveiled the track list and artwork, which comes courtesy of Daniel “Devilish” Johnsson, for their recently completed EP, entitled It All Fades.  Guitarist Wilhelm Lindh comments on the EP, which is a follow-up to the band’s debut, The System of Nature. “This time around the songs are a bit slower and darker than on The System Of Nature, we tried to continue on the path we have chosen. We have found our niche and have no reason to stray, so if you liked our first release you will like this. This time it was a bit more of a group effort and I think that made the songs stronger.”

IT ALL FADES – Track Listing:

Don’t Look Back

A Horrible Disease

Transilvanian Hunger (Darkthrone Cover)

It All Fades

Melatonin

Erasing Bad Specimen

69 CHAMBERS “Cause And Effect” Featuring Chrigel Glanzmann – Official Music Video Is Stone’s Metal Pick Of The Day!

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock albums, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Music, rock albums, rock music, rock music news, rock music videos with tags , , , , , , , on June 23, 2012 by Metal Odyssey

69 CHAMBERS – The soothingly Rockin’ and harmonic vocals of Nina Vetterli-Treml combine with the extreme vocals of Chrigel Glanzmann (of Eluveitie) in Cause And Effect. This combination of opposite ends of vocals proves to be a sensational and enduring song in my Metal world! Cause And Effect exemplifies excellence in the union of melodic and extreme; that these two opposites can truly co-exist in music… in Metal.

Having 69 Chambers being my “Metal Pick Of The Day” on Metal Odyssey is becoming quite commonplace, it seems. That’s what happens when a band pushes the creative envelope and kicks the shit out of the status quo of Heavy Music, like 69 Chambers has done so brilliantly with their new album Torque.

Take a look and loud listen below to Cause And Effect! Coupled with memorable lyrics, the entire structure of this song is so perfect. This is what Heavy Music in 2012 sounds like… and I’m on board for the ride with 69 Chambers. Metal be thy name.

* Torque was released on April 27th, 2012, via Massacre Records. This is a cutting edge record label that defines excellence in signing musical talent.

69 CHAMBERS:

Nina Vetterli-Treml – bass & vocals

Tommy Vetterli – guitar

Diego Rapacchietti – drums

ABOUT AUROCH:

Spawned from Vancouver’s underground back in 2008, Lovecraftian Death Metal trio Auroch is on a mission to give Canadian Extreme Metal traditions the respect they deserve, bringing them to the countless maniacs always anticipating the next epic Death Metal assault.

Following a number of smaller releases, Auroch will finally be unleashing its soon to be titled first full-length album in summer 2012.

“The album is the inevitable and natural point of evolution from the past releases,” says guitarist/vocalist Sebastian Montesi. “These songs came together over the past year and represent the fiercest, fastest, most harrowing and barbaric of our written and certainly recorded material.”

Showcasing the band’s metamorphoses from Thrash Metal band into a full-fledged Death Metal assault, the debut full-length album is “raw, relentless and tapping into a musical current of the wrath of Lovecraft’s Ancient Ones. Any and all who question or condemn modern conventions should sympathize with the ideologies and mythos provided. Fans of barbaric blasting and technical shredding should associate with the musicality” says Montesi.

Auroch is awakening and shall pave the path for the coming of the most Ancient One!
