Wanna See My KISS Paul Stanley Christmas Ornament? It’s Really Cool…

Posted in christmas, classic rock, holidays, Rock, rock music, travel with tags , , , , on November 16, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Paul Stanley - KISS - Christmas Ornament - promo pic - #2011PS

That’s it above, my KISS Paul Stanley Christmas ornament. Pretty Cool, huh? I received this ornament back in 2011 as a gift from my wife. She purchased this piece of KISStory from the Moravian Book Shop, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Moravian Book Shop was founded in 1745, by the Moravian Church and lays claim to being the oldest bookstore in continuous operation in the world. There’s some history for you! Metal be thy name! Bethlehem, Pennsylvania… Rocks! Whoa.

If you want more info on the Moravian Book Shop, click on the links below! This historical store is a must visit, in the event you travel to  the Lehigh Valley or Northampton Counties of Pennsylvania. It is especially more scenic during the Christmas season, to visit there.

KISS “Love Gun” – Deluxe 2CD Version Releasing On October 27th, Via UMe; All The Details Here!

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on October 15, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Kiss - Love Gun - promotional album cover pic - 1977

New version of 1977 studio recording contains previously unreleased demos, live tracks, 1977 Gene Simmons interview and liner notes by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott

_______________________________

As reported on the KISS Facebook:

Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees KISS continue to celebrate their 40th anniversary with the release of a deluxe two-CD version of their 1977 platinum-plus album, Love Gun, coming out October 27, 2014 on Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). The band’s sixth studio recording, Love Gun was the first album to feature lead vocal performances from all four original band members, and has since gone on to sell more than four million copies.

The two-CD edition will include the complete re-mastered first album, featuring such classics as the title track, “Plaster Caster,” the song inspired by Cynthia Plaster Caster, the groupie famous for taking casts of rock star genitalia; “Shock Me,” written about Ace Frehley suffering an electric shock during a concert in Lakeland, Florida; “Christine Sixteen,” and “Then She Kissed Me,” the band’s cheeky, gender-switching cover of the Crystals’ 1963 hit penned by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector.

The second disc is made up of rare, never released Love Gun demos of “Plaster Caster,” “Tomorrow and Tonight” and “Much Too Soon.” The first four lines of the demo “I Know Who You Are” eventually evolved and became the song “Living In Sin” and the rest of the lyrics and music became “I Know Who You Are.” A glimpse into Paul Stanley’s creative process is demonstrated in “Love Gun (Teaching Demo)” with Stanley talking through the various chords of the song after writing the song. The next version “Love Gun (Demo)” is the complete demo performance. “Reputation,” the only previously released demo, was originally included on this year’s KISS 40 compilation.

Also included is a 1977 interview with Gene Simmons, as well as three never-available live tracks from their show at the Capitol Centre, Landover, MD from December 20, 1977, “Love Gun,” “Christine Sixteen” and “Shock Me.” The package comes with liner notes especially written by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, recently on tour with KISS.

Kiss - Rock Vegas - promotional banner - 2014

With the culmination of the KISS 40th Anniversary Tour, KISS marks their four decades as America’s most iconic band with their first-ever residency, KISS Rocks Vegas, at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, a series of nine performances, starting Wednesday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 23, including shows on Nov. 7, 8, 12, 14, 15, 19 and 22. KISS will make waves with one of the loudest, most over-the-top, non-stop parties ever at The Joint, unleashing its signature elaborate set designs, jam-packed set list, intense pyrotechnics and much more.

From rock ‘n’ roll to fashion, always creating and inspiring, KISS recently appeared as the finale on the prime-time CBS special Fashion Rocks, live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with Afrojack, Duran Duran, Jennifer Lopez, Miranda Lambert, Nico + Vinz, Pitbull, Rita Ora and the Band Perry.

On This Day In METAL History (Make That KISStory) – October 2nd…

Kiss - Rolling Stone Magazine - promo cover pic

(Rolling Stone – Issue 1206, April 10, 2014)

A WHOLE LOTTA KISS…

On October 2nd, 1978, legendary KISS members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley & Peter Criss’ solo albums were each certified Gold & Platinum by the RIAA.

Kiss - solo albums montage - 1978 - #907KSA

On this day in KISSTORY – October 2nd, 1992, KISS brought their North American Revenge Tour to Broome County Arena in Binghamton, New York. This was Eric Singer’s second US arena show and first tour with KISS.

Kiss - Revenge - promo album pic - #001KR

On October 2nd, 2006, Supreme Court justices uphold lower-court decisions dismissing guitarist Vinnie Vincent’s claims against KISS over alleged unpaid royalties. Vincent replaced founding KISS guitarist Ace Frehley in 1982 and played with KISS until 1984. Vinnie Vincent sued for money he claimed was owed for co-writing several songs that appeared on the band’s 1983 studio album, Lick It Up.

On this day, back in 2012, KISS debut their slot game at the 12th annual Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were present for the unveiling.

KISS “Reason To Live” – 1987 Music Video Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Posted in classic rock, classic rock bands, Hard Rock, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news, rock music videos with tags , , , , , on August 6, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Sunrise Wallpaper - 2014 - #7771

What has inspired me to choose this 1987 music video from the iconic KISS for Stone’s Metal Pick Of The Day, are the lyrics. If you can get past the cheese and sugar-free cola imagery of the video itself, the message is simple: Everybody’s got a reason to live. Too many innocent people are dying in our world today due to wars, gang violence, unrest and hostility. Crippled, sickly children and adults are struggling everyday to live; while their waking up the next day is a personal victory. Homeless people have tales to tell; if only anyone would listen. Ebola is on the loose in Western Africa, with no validated medical cure at hand.

Too much (irrational) emphasis is put on a person’s value to society or their family; based on how high their salary is. Skin color or one’s religious loyalty (or lack thereof) can ignite unspeakable hate crimes and racism. Immigrant has become a four-letter word? Heroine is taking the lives of people around-the-clock. Community food pantries struggle to stay stocked.

Plus, if you factor in the Oregon wife and mother of two toddlers, Jennifer Huston, who went missing on July 24th (later to be found yesterday) twenty-five miles from her home, deceased and outside of her vehicle on a remote dirt road, the meaning and value of life becomes more profound. No one has all the answers to the suffering, still, as a global community, humanity needs to obliterate insanity.

I am not preaching, just stating the facts and venting about what is reality in our world today. Please don’t get depressed from all of this; instead LIVE each day and tell those you love… that you love them. Help a stranger; that same stranger may help you someday. Don’t think about donating to or volunteering for a reputable cause… DO IT!!

What is grand about this video is we can all witness the late and great Eric Carr playing the drums. Now that’s NOT cheese or sugar-free cola at all. I hope you can take in the lyrics and enjoy this music video. Metal be thy name. – Stone

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Friday, April 4th, 2014

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, metal bands, metal music, rock music, rock music news, world news with tags , , , , , , , on April 4, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

Kiss - Rolling Stone Magazine - promo cover pic

It took Rolling Stone 40 years to finally discover the greatness of KISS. That should be a ground-breaking embarrassment to this magazine. Hell, it only took a hiccup for Rolling Stone to know who Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was; he made the cover of Rolling Stone before KISS did. That’s pathetic. With an unsuccessful bid to glamorize Dzhokhar Tsarnaev behind them, Rolling Stone still goes about their way, as if they’re the authority on pop culture, politics and world affairs.

As a lifelong KISS fan, it’s bitter-sweet for me to see that they’re on the cover of Rolling Stone. I guess once you’re accepted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Rolling Stone wants a piece of the popularity pie. If you minus the KISS cover and KISS feature story from this issue, the remaining magazine can be useful for cat litter box liner.

Damageplan - New Found Power - promo cover pic

When Pantera’s Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell formed their supergroup Damageplan, the result was unfortunately 1 studio album: New Found Power. The late Dimebag Darrell is ultra-blazing on guitar, while Pat Lachman (vocals), Bob Zilla (bass) and of course, drummer Vinne Paul all lash out some of the most amazing Metal that was released in 2004.

I recently combed Amazon.com to see what New Found Power is selling for. Are y’all ready? Try: $42.72 (U.S.) as a new (unopened) CD. Yup. Guess what else? There were NO used copies of New Found Power for sale on Amazon.com. I consider myself lucky, for I bought this Damageplan CD (new) a few years ago, at f.y.e for about $18.00 (U.S.). In Metal conclusion, the physical CD of Damageplan New Found Power is out of print.

Apparently, if you have an enormous arrow, um, cross/devil tail on your back, which is pointing straight down to your fanny… then life must be very, very eventful for you. All kidding aside, I bought this sophomore CD, Going To Hell, by The Pretty Reckless due to its cover. Oops, I meant due to its Hard Rock. Besides, listening to this CD makes me feel like there truly is a young generation of Rockers that really do get it. Metal be thy name.

Yay, it’s Friday! TGIF and have a drink on me! All the while, our world is going to hell in a fiery, out-of-control basket. Whatever y’all do, make certain to FILTER the news you read and watch. We are ALL receiving misinformation constantly from the 24/7 news networks, internet and print media. Need proof of this? Just tune into the coverage of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Sad.

The talking mannequins on television only give a shit about RATINGS and how they look on camera; therefore, it’s the Dewey Defeats Truman philosophy of journalism that we must unfortunately live with, from yesterday and today’s news outlets.

As I do (loyally) utilize the vast social network known as Twitter, I found this exceptional quote, (below), from a historically legendary dude whose name is Alphonse De Lamartine. The NAMM Twitter account posted this quote and I snagged it for my post. Yup.

In the event you don’t know who this dude was, here’s a lightning-quick history lesson: Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine was a French writer, poet and politician. Alphonse was born on October 21, 1790, in Mâcon, France and died in Paris, France, back on February 28, 1869.

Kiss - Def Leppard - 2014 Summer Tour - promo banner - 33303

By now, y’all are wondering why Stone slapped the album cover for PEARL JAM Ten, on the top of this post. Answer: I bought the CD of Ten, yesterday at Best Buy for $3.99 (U.S.). Not a bad price for a tried and true Rock classic. I’ve forever owned Ten on cassette, thus an upgrade was essential. Pearl Jam’s Ten has grown on me over the years, that’s for certain. Metal be thy name.

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Tuesday, February 25th, 2014

Zero Tolerance - Glen Benton - promo cover pic -

Jiminy Metal Cricket! I haven’t written a Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts post, since March of 2013! As Frank Sinatra and David Lee Roth have sung… That’s LifeBy the way, That’s Life was written by Dean Kay and Kelly Gordon; while originally recorded by American born Jazz singer: Marion Montgomery. There’s some non-Metal trivia for y’all. Whoa.

The Zero Tolerance magazine cover (above) has DEICIDE’s (legendary) Glen Benton staring at not just me… he’s also staring at you! One look into those eyes of Glen Benton and all I see is… METAL. Okay, someone may see, (maybe) a tad of evil. Evil is Metal. Cool. However, the glaring eyes of Glen Benton can be open for interpretation and still one Metal fact remains: those eyes of Glen Benton have undoubtedly seen it all.

I bought this December/January issue of Zero Tolerance at my nearest Barnes & Noble store, yesterday. Yes, I’m psyched. I cannot give this magazine enough Metal praise. It’s released every two months and costs $9.99 (U.S.). This mag is a UK publication and also comes with a CD of 18 songs; real songs that y’all won’t hear on American Idol.

Ghostbusters- Bill Murray - Dan Aykroyd - Harold Ramis - prom pic -

L to R: Ghostbusters – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.

Yesterday, the sad news spread across the world that the legendary Harold Ramis, a comedy filmmaker, director, writer and actor passed away. Man, have I been a lifelong fan of Harold Ramis! I have thoroughly enjoyed, time and again, every movie that Harold Ramis touched! Beginning back to my middle school/high school years, the comedy films that Harold Ramis was responsible for included Animal House (1978), Caddyshack (1980), Stripes (1981), the Ghostbusters franchise, National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), Groundhog Day from 1993 and many more. An American comedy film icon, Harold Ramis shall forever be. His ability to make me laugh will forever remain and that’s a Metal fact. May Harold Ramis rest in peace.

KISS - Frisbee Pic!

Above: That’s the KISS frisbee I own. Pretty cool, huh? I bought it at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Yup.

Apparently, KISS will not play in any band lineup for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony. It would have been extremely cool if every available member of KISS (past and present) could perform together onstage, for one kick-ass jam medley of KISS classics. A video backdrop showing the late Eric Carr and Mark St. John during this “fantasy” performance would have been an ultimate fan experience and profound moment in Rock history. Alas, what the hell do I know? Right?

Regardless, anyone who follows KISS on a daily basis, via their Facebook and website, will surely agree that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have NOT forgotten about their past. Their roots are what made them the icons they are today and both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have openly acknowledged (via their recent press release) they want to celebrate the history of KISS.
