SKID ROW – New Studio Album “The Gang’s All Here” Releases on October 14th, via earMUSIC

Posted in Hard Rock, hard rock bands, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , on April 2, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

From earMUSIC:

Skid Row and earMUSIC join forces to announce the release of the mightily anticipated new studio album “The Gang’s All Here” on October 14th, 2022. This announcement coincides with the launch of the iconic hard rock band’s Las Vegas Residency (as the Scorpions’ special guests), as well as the debut of their brand-new single, the title track “The Gang’s All Here”.

“The Gang’s All Here” is an oath of triumph, exploding with powerful energy that makes us hunger for more. It is the logical next-generation leap of the band’s trademark sound that stomps out new ground – with singer Erik Grönwall (formerly of H.E.A.T, one of the best frontmen of this or any hard rock era) joining the family.

Produced by Grammy Award Winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice In Chains, Halestorm, Evanescence) and long-time fan, Skid Row are ablaze. They are re-energized, kicking their sound way up to modern Hard Rock Royalty.

Further details are to be revealed soon.

“We are beyond excited to release this record. It has been a long time in the making and a lot of hard work has been put into it by the band and our producer Nick Raskulinecz. And the addition of Erik has lifted the songs to new heights.
Add all this to the fact that we start our world tour in Las Vegas with the Scorpions residency at Zappos Theater makes it easy to say that Skid Row is going to have a great year.”

– Rachel Bolan and Snake Sabo

Johnny Solinger – Rest In Peace

Posted in Metal with tags , on June 29, 2021 by Metal Odyssey

It’s with a saddened heart to write that Johnny Solinger has passed away this past weekend from liver failure. Johnny Solingers’ musical career spanned Country to Heavy Metal. He is most famously known for fronting Skid Row; accomplishing an amazing tenure as their lead singer.

Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family, bandmates, friends and fans of Johnny Solinger. May he rest and Rock in peace.

If you never tuned into the Johnny Solinger era of Skid Row, please do so for I highly recommend that historic moment in heavy music history. The Johnny Solinger era of Skid Row will forever remain a favorite of mine. God Bless Johnny Solinger and his family.

SKID ROW And Johnny Solinger Split – Tony Harnell Announced As New Lead Singer

As reported on the SKID ROW Facebook timeline:

New York, NY – After 14 years of touring and 4 releases, SKID ROW has released singer Johnny Solinger.

Founding member Snake Sabo said, “We had a lot of great times together and created a lot of great music. We wish him nothing but the best.”

“Sometimes things just end. People go in different directions and grow apart and you have to make a decision. He will always be our brother” adds co-founder Rachel Bolan.

The vacancy for a new front man has been filled by powerhouse vocalist Tony Harnell. This news comes hot of the heels of his departure from Norway based band, TNT. “Tony’s experience, power and undeniable range made our decision an easy one” commented guitarist Scotti Hill. Drummer Rob Hammersmith added, “I believe this will be a great year for SKID ROW. I’m looking forward for things to come.”

When asked about joining forces with SKID ROW Harnell said, “I’m so excited and honored to be a part of such a great band with an amazing legacy and legions of faithful fans! The guys and I have known each other for many years and this is such a natural fit. I look forward to getting out there and playing live together and being a part of making new music and creating our future together. It’s time to rock!”

The band will head into the studio to record the third chapter of the United World Rebellion trilogy this summer. They will also hit the road for another world tour in support.

Some Metal and Rock ‘N Roll Thoughts – Sunday July 27th, 2014

KIX - Rock Your Face Off - promo cover pic - 2014

It is Sunday, July 27th, 2014 and after 11:00 pm EST as I write this post. Other than wishing the team members on the Animal Planet reality series Finding Bigfoot would at last find this damn creature, wishing for world peace is probably just as moot. What isn’t uncertain are two forthcoming Hard Rock albums that I’m gonna scrape up some spare change to purchase: KIX – Rock Your Face Off and SKID ROW – Rise Of The Damnation Army/United World Rebellion Chapter Two.

Rock ‘N Roll was, is and will forever be a perfect antidote for dispelling the crappy feelings I get when reading the world AND local news! Metal be thy name, isn’t it true for you!? I truly feel it is GRAND that SKID ROW and KIX are both releasing new studio material on the same day in the USA: August 5th! This will be the second in a series of EP studio releases from SKID ROW, with KIX releasing their first studio album since 1995’s Show Business. However, KIX has been a staple and favorite on the live Hard Rock scene for many a year; their 2012 Live In Baltimore release via Frontiers Records is proof positive of this!

Both bands are legendary for sure. I am just psyched-out that SKID ROW and KIX exist in 2014, while giving their fans and the Hard Rock scene something to really look forward to once again. SKID ROW. KIX. Real Deal Hard Rock. Metal be thy name. – Stone.

Yay, it’s Friday! TGIF and have a drink on me! All the while, our world is going to hell in a fiery, out-of-control basket. Whatever y’all do, make certain to FILTER the news you read and watch. We are ALL receiving misinformation constantly from the 24/7 news networks, internet and print media. Need proof of this? Just tune into the coverage of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Sad.

Dewey defeats Truman - promo pic - history - #449

The talking mannequins on television only give a shit about RATINGS and how they look on camera; therefore, it’s the Dewey Defeats Truman philosophy of journalism that we must unfortunately live with, from yesterday and today’s news outlets.

As I do (loyally) utilize the vast social network known as Twitter, I found this exceptional quote, (below), from a historically legendary dude whose name is Alphonse De Lamartine. The NAMM Twitter account posted this quote and I snagged it for my post. Yup.

In the event you don’t know who this dude was, here’s a lightning-quick history lesson: Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine was a French writer, poet and politician. Alphonse was born on October 21, 1790, in Mâcon, France and died in Paris, France, back on February 28, 1869.

By now, y’all are wondering why Stone slapped the album cover for PEARL JAM Ten, on the top of this post. Answer: I bought the CD of Ten, yesterday at Best Buy for $3.99 (U.S.). Not a bad price for a tried and true Rock classic. I’ve forever owned Ten on cassette, thus an upgrade was essential. Pearl Jam’s Ten has grown on me over the years, that’s for certain. Metal be thy name.

Led by founding members Rachel Bolan, Snake Sabo and Scotti Hill, along with powerhouse vocalist and 14 year veteran of the band Johnny Solinger and new drummer Rob Hammersmith, SKID ROW will deliver the best from their catalogue of gold and platinum albums and anthemic singles like “Youth Gone Wild”, “Monkey Business”, “I Remember You”, “18 & Life” and many more. They will also showcase tracks from their new mini-album United World Rebellion Chapter 1 which features songs such as “Kings Of Demolition” and “ This Is Killing Me”, tracks which easily stand up along with the band’s classics.

After a run of hugely successful festival dates in Summer 2012, UGLY KID JOE’s Whit, Klaus and Cordell, along with Snot / Sevendust guitarist Sonny Mayo and Zac Morris are back for their first full European tour. In Summer 2013, they will release Stairway To Hell, their first new music since 1996. The album features six brand new songs along with three acoustic versions of songs from their past. Tracks like “Everything About You”, “Cats In The Cradle”, “Neighbor” and “Milkman’s Son” continue to receive airplay around the world, while new singles “Devil’s Paradise” and “I’m Alright” show where the band are headed. UKJ’s Whit promises “it will be RAD!”.

The tour promises a great night of rock that you can sing along to from beginning to end.

SKID ROW “UNITED WORLD REBELLION (CHAPTER ONE)” EP – 5 Reasons To BUY This Kick Ass CD!

Skid Row - United World Rebellion - Chapter One - promo cover

SKID ROW – UNITED WORLD REBELLION (CHAPTER ONE) EP was released back on April 16th and it has absolutely kicked my Heavy Rock lovin’ ass since the first moment I cranked it up! Below are 5 reasons why YOU MUST BUY this kick ass CD and find out why it is a 100% fabulous release from these Legends of Heavy Music! Fans have waited several years for some new studio material from SKID ROW and now it’s here! Metal be thy name!

Reason # 5: Johnny Solinger. As with prior SKID ROW releases Thickskin (2003) and Revolutions Per Minute (2006), Johnny Solinger has proven himself to be one hell of a talent vocally; giving SKID ROW and their songs a badass vibe and character that I not only expect… it’s what I want!

Reason #4: ALL 5 songs kick Heavy Rockin’ ass. Hey, I’ve used the word “ass” a couple of times here already. Um, if you’re offended… kiss my Heavy Rockin’ and Metal lovin’ ass.

Reason #3: This Is Killing Me. Yes, the (power) ballad: This Is Killing Me. I am Stone. I HATE ballads, therefore, when a ballad psyches-me-out-of-my-mind I’m gonna tell the whole F’n world about it. Whoa.

Reason #2: SKID ROW could have taken the low road and not bothered to release any new music at all. Instead, SKID ROW are not about resting on their legendary Heavy Rock laurels; this is a band that obviously wants to remind fans and new fans alike: We are here to kick your Heavy Rock ass!

Reason #1: The band itself. SKID ROW. Holy shit did they compile 5 Hard Rockin’ songs that are QUALITY in BOTH music AND lyrics. I only wish United World Rebellion (Chapter One) had 10, 12 or more songs! This isn’t a SKID ROW release to ignore, my fellow Rockaholics and Metal brethren. Chapter Two can’t be released quick enough for me. Metal as my witness, this EP from SKID ROW is a MUST buy. Metal be thy name.

main-150Skid Row released their debut album, “Skid Row” on Atlantic Records, on January 24, 1989. The timing for this Heavy Metal band proved to be a successful one, for this “Skid Row” album sold in excess of five million copies, (going five times platinum in the U.S.A.). The time line of Skid Row becoming so popular, with their first two albums proves to be quite an accomplishment, (their sophomore album “Slave To The Grind”, (released in 1991), sold two million copies and hit #1 on the album charts in the U.S.A.).  1989 was the beginning of the Grunge Music era, with Nirvana and  Soundgarden already in the marketplace. Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots later garnered massive commercial media attention and a strong following of fans in 1991. Regardless of the changing landscape in the Heavy Music culture, Skid Row made a major mark in Heavy Metal history between 1989 – 1991, with their first two albums. It is a tremendous Heavy Metal achievement for Skid Row to sell seven million albums after their first two releases in the United States. Fast forward to 2009, I still will listen to the debut Skid Row album and continue to revel in it’s variety of Heavy Metal songs.

Skid Row is a band that I always referred to as Heavy Metal… Hair Metal can be a justified label for this band as well, with their look and the 1989 breakout release of “Skid Row”, this puts them in the correct time period for that genre. Sebastian Bach in my Metal opinion, bestowed some real flamboyant, powerful, Arena Rock, style of vocals on “Skid Row”. Sebastian Bach did not introduce anything brand new to Heavy Metal with his vocals, yet I always felt he could carry a note and sing with the best of this genre. What had always stood out with Sebastian Bach’s vocals, for me, was his undeniable enthusiasm and cocky confidence. (Two necessary characteristics to have, especially for a Heavy Metal front man). As a total Heavy Metal band, Skid Row certainly never lacked any of the pertinent skills necessary to get the job done. This original Skid Row lineup on “Skid Row” combined their musicianship to create eleven top tier Heavy Metal songs. Not a bad tune in the bunch, in my Metal opinion.

“Here I Am” is probably my favorite song on this album, it just flat out Rocks. This song was not one of the hits that made it to FM radio or MTV back in the day, still, this is my hit pick. “Makin’ A Mess” is another pick of mine that scorches with speed, without question the fastest Heavy Metal song on this album. As for the hits… “Youth Gone Wild” is the most memorable and pumped up – heavy song that I point out here. Even though I may not belong to any youth generation anymore, I still get psyched out of my Metal mind when this song is cranked up. Yeah!! “18 And Life” is another major single that received it’s just due on FM radio and MTV as well… the lyrics make sense, the song Rocks heavy, the combination of these two descriptions makes this song a winner for me. “Midnight/Tornado” is as good as it gets with 1980’s Heavy Metal… the guitar solo, it just brings it man. The lyrics are tidy, the song is heavy, the Heavy Metal power is on high… “Midnight/Tornado” does it for me. O.K., there is a ballad on this album, “I Remember You”. Now, I can make a list of Heavy Metal ballads that stretches from Boston to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, that I cannot stomach… “I Remember You” is not one of them. Sebastian Bach sings it… Skid Row brings it. I have spoken my Metal mind on that one.

In Metal summary, “Skid Row” delivered the heavy, at times fast, a ballad and some extremely popular and powerful hits. “Big Guns”, “Sweet Little Sister”, “Can’t Stand The Heartache” and “Piece Of Me” are the four opening songs that are best described as a Heavy Metal continuum of solid songs. “Rattlesnake Shake” is no pushover song either. Heavy album, 1980’s heavy and by today’s Old School Heavy Metal standards… a Heavy Metal album worth passing along to the youthful Metalheads of 2009. Let the youth of today listen to this Skid Row album and they should go wild.

Here is the original Skid Row, as they appeared on “Skid Row”… useful information for a well balanced Metal Music diet: Sebastian Bach on lead vocals, Dave “The Snake” Sabo on rhythm, lead guitars & backing vocals, Rachel Bolan on bass guitar & backing vocals, Rob Affuso on drums & percussion and Scotti Hill on lead and rhythm guitars.
