Pavement Music To Release Self-titled Album From Thrash Pioneers SONICK PLAGUE

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 3, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sonick Plague - promo band pic - 2015 - #MOCTNIFHSLN03369

Pavement Music has announced a July 24 release for the self-titled, re-recorded and re-energized version of the 1988 debut from old-school thrash-masters Sonick Plague. Originally titled “What’s the Purpose,” this updated version of the album was recorded at the legendary Carriage House Studios and captures the powerful energy and grit of the origins of thrash metal.

Sonick Plauge are veterans (and some say) pioneers of the classic, thrash metal sound. This raw and lively sound originated in the hills of West Virginia in 1984. The lineup was solidified in Connecticut a few years later with founders Ken Cuccaro (drums) and Tim Meehan (guitars), along with Tony Teodoro (guitars) and Sean Donnelly (bass, vox).

Things started moving for Plague when they landed their first show at the legendary Anthrax in Norwalk, CT. Owners Shaun and Brian Sheriden signed the metal quartet to their own label (Anthrax Records) and the debut album, What’s the Purpose, was released in 1988. Immediately after the album’s release, Tim Meehan retreated south and (after an exhaustive search) was replaced by childhood friend Chuck Crilly (guitars). The band embarked on a self-supported tour and played alongside the likes of Death Angel, Voivod, Gwar, Pantera, Ludichrist, Crumbsuckers and many more. The tour took its toll on the guys and after a couple unsuccessful lineup changes, the band dissolved.

In 2012 Sonick Plague lost their beloved friend and brother Tony Teodoro. The tragic and untimely passing found Ken, Sean and Chuck talking again and soon back to their old musical form. Matt Dupre was recruited to round out the reformed band and a decision was made to re-record and release the debut album while they continue working on material for a follow-up.

MAGISTER TEMPLI – To Release ‘Into Duat’ On Cruz Del Sur Music In August

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on July 1, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Magister Templi - promo band photo - 2015 - #4408NIL

After having deeply explored the different aspects of Crowley’s philosophy on their previous releases Iao Sabao and Lucifer Leviathan Logos, Norwegian occult Heavy Metal band MAGISTER TEMPLI returns with its second full length, Into Duat, in which they focus thematically on some of the central myths and gods of Egyptian Mythology (“Duat” is the realm of the God Osiris).

Into Duat is targeted for release at the end of August, followed by an active live campaign, which will bring the band to play at the No Sleep Til Dublin Festival 2015 and afterwards on an European tour with Christian Mistress. Into Duat was recorded in Oslo between Evil Octopus and Sorcerer studios, with former band member Simon Aarset as technician.

As in their vinyl 7” release Nyarlathotep (2014), the band had moved even further away from their doom-inspired beginnings, towards a more open-minded musical experience strongly based on filthy traditional Heavy Metal. Heavy guitars, intense drumming and commanding vocals are key ingredients.

Track List:

  1. Creation
  2. The Lord of the Morning
  3. Osiris
  4. Horus the Avenger
  5. Anubis
  6. Sobek
  7. Slaying Apophis
  8. Destruction

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH – Seattle Doom Merchants To Kick Off North American Live Incursion With Neurosis Next Month

Posted in Metal, Music, news, rock music with tags , , , on June 30, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth - promo band photo - 2015 - #0615ILNVM

Debut Listed Among NPR Music’s 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far)

Seattle doom merchants, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH, will bring their lumbering odes to stages throughout North America next month supporting Neurosis. Slated to embark on July 31st in Lawrence, Kansas, the trek will coil its way through sixteen cities, including one headlining performance, coming to a close on August 16th in Houston, Texas. Additional support will be provided by The Body, Sumac, Iron Tongue and Pinkish Black on select dates.

Comments legendary guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle of the journey, “Being a huge fan of what Neurosis does for so long, we are really excited that we have the honor and privilege of being support for them on this tour. It is a gift for us to be able to do this.”

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH features Doyle, formerly of Tad and Hog Molly, bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki). The trio undraped their lead-footed, self-titled debut last February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Eyehategod, Taurus, Ommadon et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth splices thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track and serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years.

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth - promo album cover pic - 2015 - #0631MOILGSFM

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse. Having already earned hails from fans and media globally, NPR Music recently listed the band’s debut among its 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far) noting, “Seattle’s Tad Doyle has been at this heavy game coming on three decades now. With bands like Tad and Hog Molly, he could take a bummer riff and make it boil and hum in ways others just couldn’t. Years in the making, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH‘s debut is a thoroughly satisfying doom metal LP that is fully awake and teeming with power.”

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH:
7/31/2015 Liberty Hall – Lawrence, KS w/ Neurosis, The Body
8/01/2015 Mill City – Minneapolis, MN w/ Neurosis, The Body
8/02/2015 The Majestic – Madison, WI w/ Neurosis, The Body

8/14/2015 Masquerade – Atlanta, GA w/ Neurosis, Sumac
8/15/2015 House Of Blues – New Orleans, LA w/ Neurosis, Iron Tongue
8/16/2015 Warehouse Live – Houston, TX w/ Neurosis, Pinkish Black

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is currently available on CD or LP at THIS LOCATION.

“The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” – Decibel

BLOW THE SCENE Hosts PAWS Benefit Show July 10th: Mother Brain, Gut Feeling, Grin And Bear It, Die Choking, Drones For Queens To Perform

Blow The Scene - Paws Benefit Show - July 10 - 2015 - Philly - promo flyer

Next week, Philadelphia-based underground music, arts and activism webzine, Blow The Scene, will host its annual benefit show for PAWS – the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society – with a wide array of artists set to perform and a wealth of other activities confirmed.

Blow The Scene Presents A Night of Music / Art & Animal Love, set to take place next Friday, July 10th at The Pharmacy in South Philly. Sponsored by Psychics.com, Earsplit PR and Sit & Spin Records, the show will be used to collect donations to aid PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society), and will include live performances from Mother Brain (Long Island grindcore champs), Gut Feeling (North Carolina hardcore act with members of Catharsis, Undying and more), Grin And Bear It (Cleveland powerhouse PV/punk), Dying (Philly XVX hardcore), Die Choking (Philly hyper grinders) and Drones For Queens (Philly shredders).

Additionally, an art show is part of the benefit, where many artists from all over the world are donating art prints that will be on display and for sale at this cash and carry event curated by Ryann Casey. Attendees will be able purchase rad art pieces for very reasonable prices. All monies collected from the art sales in addition to the $10 admittance fee will ALL be donated to PAWS!

Those not in the area can also take part in the benefit; people everywhere can donate and get awesome rewards from BlowTheScene including band pictures of your choice printed on METAL!

Check it all out and please support the fundraiser RIGHT HERE.

Also see the official event page HERE, an article on the bands performing at the show HERE.

Those attending please do not bring your pets to the event; as much as we’d love to see them, loud shows are not a healthy environment for animals with sensitive hearing.

Artists can also donate their works to the event. Donated art can be any work on paper (old or new) and should be unframed (all work will be hung with wire and/or T-pins). We are also asking that all pieces be no larger than 20×24 so we can plan space accordingly and should be priced reasonably (the max price is $50 since this is a cash and carry event). Because of the quantity of work going into this show, we are asking that everything be either dropped off or received by no later than Sunday July 5th.
