SHEPHERDS REIGN – Signs Global Deal With Golden Robot Records

Golden Robot Records are proud to announce the signing of the fiery, full-blooded Polynesian metal band, Shepherds Reign.

Members Filiva’a James, Oliver Leupolu, Shaymen Rameka, Gideon Voon and Joseph Oti-George have cemented a unique space for themselves in the industry with thunderously fearsome hits, including 2020 hauntingly feral track ‘Le Manu‘ that has amassed over 1 million streams since its release. 

“We have had our eye on Shepherds Reign for years.  There is no one doing what they are doing, it is completely unique and we are thrilled to be a part of it. This is just the beginning for Shepherds Reign, the catapult is coming,” says Golden Robot Records CEO and President Mark Alexander-Erber.

REVOCATION has spent the last eight years converting fans to their cause with four full-length albums, an EP with Scion AV, and a charismatic live show led by guitarist/vocalist Dave Davidson. Boston Metal For Nepal Benefit Draws Near

Galvanized into action by the tragedy of two earthquakes that have devastated Nepal, The Metal For Nepal Benefit (#MetalForNepal) concert will take place on June 20th at the venerable Middle East Night Cub in Boston, MA. Headlining the event is bill will be Obsidian Tongue, followed by Native Construct, Caricature, Sonic Pulse and BruteMukti. The show is $10 and All Ages. You can get tickets online here:

All proceeds from ticket sales as well as donations raised from raffles of exclusive merch, and other types of donations made will go toward the Jai Nepal Youth Club, No Silence for Nepal, WHR Nepal and Reaping Hope.

They have come up with a proposal for their foundation with state goals and action guidelines for dispersal of monies collected. Keeping up a long-held tradition of bringing forth some of the heaviest music from the darkness of the Pacific Northwest, Seattle’s Tad Doyle (formerly of TAD, Hog Molly), delivers his strongest songwriting and performance to date with his newest project, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH. This powerful trio of musicians – Tad on guitar/vocals alongside veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Annunaki), will release their long-awaited debut LP in early 2015 on Neurot Recordings.

NEUROSIS – To Conquer Housecore Horror Film Fest; First Ever Australian Tour Nears

As the lineage of NEUROSIS nears its thirty-year mark, the band continues to perform across the planet sporadically but steadily, not having toured this heavily since the earlier years of their career, in seemingly unending support of their 2012-released tenth studio LP, Honor Found In Decay.

This week, NEUROSIS has confirmed their participation in this year’s colossal Housecore Horror Film Fest. The second installment of the gathering, set to run from October 23rd through 26th in Austin, Texas, will see NEUROSIS joining the lineup of bands which also includes Decapitated, Lustmord, Danzig, Samhain, Eyehategod, Vader and a rash of others. The Housecore Horror Fest performance falls directly in line with NEUROSIS‘ set at the four-day Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front, where they’ll headline the main stage on Saturday, October 18th, joined by The Body, Author & Punisher and Sorxe, followed by a concert in Denver the following evening, Sunday, October 19th, with Subrosa and In The Company Of Serpents supporting.

Preceding their upcoming US live actions, and following their most recent European run which included sets at Graspop and Tuska Open Air festivals, on the first week of August, NEUROSIS prepares to venture into Australia for the first time ever in just over two weeks on a six-city trek through Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney between July 4th and 9th, with two shows scheduled in Sydney.

DENVER BLACK SKY – Announces Lineup Additions And World Domination

Earlier this week, DENVER BLACK SKY – set to take place August 2nd and 3rd at the Gothic Theatre and Moe’s BBQ – revealed on their official Facebook page plans to extend the lineup of their two-day, three-stage event with three additional acts. Wild speculation began almost immediately with fans throwing out the names of bands they dreamed to see and now the secret is out.

The doers of the event are pleased to welcome Mexican death grind perpetrators, Rottenness, who feature within their ranks Mile High City metal veteran Ben Pitts on vocals. The band will drag their own special brand of filthtified death metal to the DBS stage on Saturday.

Also making their way to the ceremony of chaos is Los Angeles powerviolence troupe Maladjusted whose female-empowered, vegan hardcore will only add more punk angst to an already crusty Sunday.

Finally, DENVER BLACK SKY welcomes iconic grindcore/crust combatants, Nausea, to their riotous bill. Born into the emotional wasteland known as Los Angeles, Nausea has been spreading their sonic disease since 1987 and will grace the stage Sunday evening.

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM – Reveal Details On New Recordings

Following the November release of their BBC Session 2011 Anno Domini two-track live 12″ via Southern Lord, new recordings from WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have been confirmed for a 2014 release. Following several months of anticipation, the Cascadian Black Metal clan comprised of brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver now humbly unveil their impending full-length release, Celestite.

Taking a different approach than their previous LPs, Celestite is a completely newly envisioned, parallel-universe version of Celestial Lineage, the beautifully blackened fourth studio full-length epic WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM released via Southern Lord in 2011. Celestite arises with a whole new, ethereal approach. There are no drums and no vocals. Rather, deep, heavy crystalline synthesizer journeying, Eno-inspired analog processing and arcane acoustic instrumentation expand upon dimensions folded within the universe of Celestial Lineage.

The Weavers tell us: “To make Celestite, we delved into the subterranean sonics that are buried in the mix of Celestial Lineage. We isolated them, processed them and took this unearthed soundscape as our starting point. Upon this base we recorded an entirely new album. Some melodies from Celestial Lineage are recognizable, but these familiar sounds appear as ghosts, barely tethered to the original compositions. This new album is an unorthodox foray; a fully instrumental, experimental companion record to Celestial Lineage. We left some work undone with Celestial Lineage. The recording of that album in the Winter of 2011 was a monumental project for us personally, and the creative fire from those recording sessions was still burning. This recording process was an opportunity to journey into our own inner universe to complete that which needed to be completed.”

Paired once again with producer Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn O))), Master Musicians Of Bukkake), Celestite came to fruition at Avast Studios and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM’s own Olympia-based studio Owl Lodge. While cloistered during the recording sessions they made use of a mammoth arsenal of crumbling vintage equipment including a Serge Modular System, Korg Poly6, Korg MS20, Korg Mono/Poly, Roland Juno 106, Roland Jupiter 6, Roland Super jx10, Jomox Airbase 99, Access Virus and more. The album also features a guest wind ensemble including friends Josiah Boothby on French Horn, Steve Moore (Earth, Sunn O))), Stebmo) on Trombone, and both Mara Winter and Veronica Dye on flute.

The upcoming release of Celestite is doubly exciting for WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM as it will mark another new venture for the duo; the inaugural release on their own new label, Diadem Records. The band states, “Diadem Records is the imprint we created to release Celestite and future albums. Most importantly for us, working on this album has revealed a whole new vein of creative energy for WITTR. Now that the long trip of creating this album is finished, our appetite is whetted for future projects, thus we feel it necessary to pre-empt the inevitable chatter that will accompany the release of this record. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM has not permanently abandoned the guitar and drums! We sense that one day, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, we will be inspired to return to our stacks of amplifiers and cabinets to create new music.”

January 13, 2014  Cincinnati, Ohio – Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization has announced that Philadelphia thrashers, FLESH ENGINE have been confirmed for the main stage of Warriors Of Metal Fest VII at O’Sheckys LIVE Bar & Grill in Columbus, Ohio on June 27 and 28. FLESH ENGINE was a promotional monster for last year’s fest, so we’re privileged to have them back to perform again this summer, especially since they have been planning something special for us in 2014!

Band manager and guitarist, Dave Orkin states: “It’s an honor that we received the call from Datis asking us to come back in 2014, after playing the awesome Pre-Fest Showcase in 2013.  This time, however, if everything is ready to go as we have been planning and Metal Gods willing, we will be doing a special pre-release show of our second upcoming full length CD Purging Existence at the Fest this summer. We made lots of new fans & friends last year and we’re eager to get back to them with something very special. January 9, 2014  Cincinnati, Ohio – The Warriors of Metal, Inc. non-profit organization is very excited to announce the confirmation of Cincinnati, Ohio’s own premier Steampunk Power Metal band, AUTOMATON for the Pre-Fest Showcase of the Warriors of Metal Fest VII to take place on Thursday, June 26th at O’Sheckys LIVE in Columbus, Ohio.

AUTOMATON was personally introduced and endorsed by Lord Fang Von Wrathenstein of Wisconsin’s Lords Of The Trident (WOM Fest III & IV Open Air) to fest organizer Datis Alaee during the Cincinnati stop of their “Plan of Attack” tour of the Midwest in July of 2013. AUTOMATON will be the first Steampunk themed Metal band to grace the Warriors of Metal Fest’s stage.

Compiling My 2013 Best Metal Albums List Has Put Me In A Metal Quandary!

For the past month, I’ve been listening to, re-listening to and debating over which albums will make my “Best Metal Albums Of 2013” list. For clear reasons (to me) this year marks the most difficult time I’ve ever encountered, in compiling this list. I’m in a quandary!! Someone call Dr. Phil or better yet, someone call Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Carcass, Sodom, Stryper, Satyricon and Satan and tell them ALL they should have never released such amazing milestone Metal albums; especially ALL at once this past year! Um, please, no one tell them that.

Throw in the fact that Witch Cross and Sinister Realm are in the mix with spellbound like True Metal releases in 2013 and I’m on my knees begging for the Metal Gods to help me sort it all out!! Which band’s album gets #1 and why? Which band’s album comes in last on my best of list and for what reason? Rankings super SUCK and I have the urge right now to eat a case of Doritos. Can anyone please kick me in the ass and tell me to stop!?

Adding to this quandary, is: I believe that any album that makes any “Best Of” album list of mine, equates to either an instant classic or soon to be classic, within our beloved pages of Metal History; at least my pages of Metal History! All of this self-debate and (at times) self-doubt over which best Metal albums I’ve listened to over the year is very important to me. I need a very cold beer right now, from my very cold garage.

Stay tuned. My Metal list will be done eventually. Stone will come through. Hell, my “Best Hard Rock Albums Of 2013” list is already secured in my brain. For some crazy reason, the Hard Rock albums list never drove me even remotely insane. My “Top Ten Songs Of 2013” list went down easier than a Yuengling lager. Go figure. Best Metal Buddy, Scott Coverdale, already has his Best list done and ready to go. I know he struggled with it, though. Ha, ha. Still, he’s the best.

I gather it’s time for me to stop whining and get back to my Metal debate with myself. Once this fun task is complete, I can then begin to listen to what 2014 has in store for my Metal hunger… and look forward to another quandary such as this in a year from now. Metal be thy name.

North East England’s purveyors of modern metal FALLEN FATE have announced an upcoming full album release. After storming the UK in 2011 with ‘The Virus Has Spread’ the band is back, has regrouped and is ready to utterly waste with new release ‘Into the Black’.

Recorded in part in Stymphalian Productions in York with producer James Stephenson and finished in vocalist Lee Skinner’s home studio, ‘Into the Black’ retains the Fallen Fate’s signature punishing heaviness but it’s also apparent that the band has moved on musically since ‘The Virus Has Spread’.

Comments Lee Skinner, ‘Dark, Expressive and Heavy…The sound and feel of Fallen Fate has changed quite a bit since the release of ‘The Virus Has Spread’. The band has progressed and developed a more solid metal sound while maintaining a unique mix of speed and heaviness in the music.’

‘Based on a horror movie theme around a young girl called Vespa, the concept of ‘Into The Black’ plays a big part in how the album sounds and how it is visually portrayed through the artwork and upcoming videos. It contributed to the evolving sound of the band as we introduced more keyboards and experimental sounds into the mix, giving it a different dark feel and sound.’

Talking further about the concept of the album Skinner elaborates, ‘She [Vespa] chose a life without faith and over time became possessed by a demon. The demon slowly took over her body and ultimately lead her to kill herself and her family. The drive behind the concept is to empower the listener to decide whether she was possessed by the Devil, as she has no saviour in her life, or if she was possessed by God, punishing her for her lack of faith.’

The artwork designed by both Photographer Ian Cameron and Skinner through his own Black Venom Designs compliments the album’s running theme.

Supported by a release show in The Forum, Darlington, the album is set for release January 30th 2014.

Worcester, Massachusetts-based concert promotions company, MassConcerts, is proud to, once again, host the annual NEW ENGLAND METAL & HARDCORE FESTIVAL in April 2014.

Slated for April 17th, 18th, and 19th, the 2014 installment of the massive NEW ENGLAND METAL & HARDCORE FESTIVAL gathering will mark its sixteenth year. Since 1999, the multiple-day festival has been attracting dozens of bands and thousands of fans to the historic Worcester Palladium, that houses two stages full of music for three full days.. While the final lineup for this year’s fest is still being organized, today the first wave of bands confirmed to be taking part in the three-day massacre has come in hard.

Highlights of the three dozen NEMHF 2014 confirmations as of this week include: All That Remains, Iced Earth, Nile, Slapshot, the final East Coast appearance of Bleeding Through, Nails, All Out War, Twitching Tongues, and the 2014 Metal Alliance Tour package still to be announced, with more than half of the lineup still to be disclosed. Brooklyn drone-strewn noise rock threesome, TIDAL ARMS, hurl forth another canticle from their forthcoming new self-titled full-length. Titled “Molasses,” the tune — based on the Great Molasses Flood, a real event where a massive tidal wave of molasses destroyed a large area of Boston’s North End in 1919 — is currently monopolizing the airwaves courtesy of Vice/Noisey. All proceeds raised from the sale of the song will be used to help restore Brooklyn’s Translator Audio and The South Sound rehearsal studios, which were destroyed in Hurricane Sandy last year.

Relays guitarist/vocalist Tom Tierney, “Andrew Schneider from Translator Audio has made some of our favorite records, recorded our first 7″ and mixed [TIDAL ARMS debut] The Sun Exploding, and shares our love for the bizarre story of the Molasses Flood. His studio, Translator Audio and The South Sound rehearsal studios, were tragically destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. They’re starting over, and we’re releasing ‘Molasses’ as a fundraiser for the rebuild. Proceeds from the sale of the song go to Translator Audio and The South Sound.”

Describes Noisey of the track, “‘Molasses’ is like a five course meal of musical genres. At first, the song starts off with an ambient spacey vibe before shifting gears into droney, stoner rock. Then all of a sudden, by the fourth minute, we are knee-deep in doomy sludge metal. Subtle changes maybe, but enough to make it feel less like a song and more like a journey through the Lands of Heavy-Ass Rock.”

“Another great artist told me about Chris and his art, when I checked out his page I loved his style and amazing drawings straight away. So I wrote him a message if he would be into designing a t-shirt design for us. It turned out great, so there was no doubt whom to ask for the new album artwork for ‘Ghost Empire’! I told him what the album is about and he said that he would love to do it. It didn’t take long for him to come up with first ideas which were amazing! I hope we can work with him on other projects in the future, he is a great guy and easy to work with and I think the result speaks for itself!”

“Ghost Empire” will be out on January 27th in Europe & February 4th in North America!

INTER ARMA – Enters The Studio To Construct New Recording For Relapse

With accolades from media outlets and fans alike still surging in on their sophomore LP, Sky Burial, following its release via Relapse in March, Richmond’s genre-destroying INTER ARMA is already back to work in the studio. For the next ten days, the band will be bunkered down in Madison, Tennessee-based Dark Art Studios with producer Mikey Allred — the same surroundings and setup that captured the monolithic Sky Burial LP — once again unifying their talents on a massive track, to also see release via Relapse.

“There’s no title yet, but it’s a forty-plus minute piece that was originally written during the summer of 2009 and only played out a few times” stated guitarist Trey Dalton on the track. “We’ll have some different people doing guest appearances (noise, synth, strings, vox, and more) as well. We’re trying to make the most completely off the wall shit yet.”

Further details on the recording will be released in the coming weeks upon completion. In the meantime, INTER ARMA has been confirmed to perform at a pair of late Summer stateside music festivals, including a set alongside Pig Destroyer, ASG, Sleep, Kurt Vile and more at this year’s massive Hopscotch Fest in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 5th, followed by a spot on Boomslang Festival in Lexington, Kentucky the weekend of September 20th with Blonde Redhead, Marnie Stern, Locrian, Grails, Chelsea Wolfe and a ton of others. They’ve also been confirmed to storm Holland in 2014 as part of the annual Roadburn Festival. Expect further tour actions to be announced shortly.
