In Summer 2017, TESTAMENT’s Steve Di Giorgio teamed up with Tim “Ripper” Owens, Chris Caffery and Mark Zonder, for a new musical project, SPIRITS OF FIRE! This outstanding supergroup has announced the release date for their self-titled debut album, to be February 22, 2019, via Frontiers Music Srl, unleashing also the first single & video, “Light Speed Marching” from the album.
North American fans can get LIMITED EDITION, exclusive red color vinyl & collector’s box (feat. CD + T-Shirt – Size L ONLY) HERE: https://frontiersrecords.pmstores.co/ These are limited to 100 each and this is the only retailer in North America carrying these items.
Frontiers Music Srl is known for building new bands/projects featuring musicians of outstanding quality and who come from unique backgrounds. After an intense brainstorming session, a dream team of renowned metal musicians including Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex Judas Priest, Iced Earth), Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Death (Official), etc.) and Mark Zonder (ex Fates Warning, Warlord) was born and put together under the direction of renowned LA-based producer Roy Z. (Bruce Dickinson, Halford, Tribe Of Gypsies).
Called SPIRITS OF FIRE (after the title of one of their songs), the band has completed work on their debut album which is set for release on February 22nd via Frontiers Music Srl. The music can best be described as “classic Priest meets Savatage”.
Guitarist Chris Caffery on his influences for the record and working with Roy Z:
“My influences for writing on this record were the bands that we were and are still in! I wanted to write songs that [Judas] Priest, Savatage, Testament, and Fates Warning fans would like. But, I wanted them to have a personality of their own as well. To give it a vibe that was SPIRITS OF FIRE! I grew up listening to Judas Priest and spent 30 plus years working with Jon Oliva and Paul O’Neill with Savatage and TSO. Many years playing Criss’ music. These influences for me came naturally! Especially because I’m a fan of all of our bands!
This was the first time that I ever worked with Roy and it was so much fun. I have been a huge fan of his work for a long time. He’s written music, played on, and produced some of my favorite metal albums ever. He had a difficult job bringing this all together and I can’t think of anyone that would have been a better producer and co-worker for this album!”
“I always just sing to the song, whatever I feel it should be. It’s like a character thing! I like layers! This music is really perfect for me and in my natural wheel house. I like to sing all over the place and change it up and this all happens on this album. This is just the start of an amazing band, I mean sky is the limit and I actually can’t wait to record the next album, because this one is so great and perfect,” says vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens.
Drummer Mark Zonder adds about his playing and writing process, “I am the kind of player that plays what I think fits best with the music. With SPIRITS OF FIRE, the music was more aggressive and hard hitting which I really liked. Again, I tried to be very mindful of the song and the vocals, but tried to add parts that were interesting and creative for the listener.”

Aug. 28, 2018, SAN FRANCISCO – Adrian Harte, the blogger whose website, Faith No More 2.0 (newfaithnomore.com), has become the pre-eminent source for all things Faith No More, releases the book, “Small Victories: The True Story of Faith No More” on Sept. 12 via Jawbone Press.
“When I first heard about this Faith No Moe biography, I didn’t know what to think,” said Faith No More co-founder and bass player Bill Gould. “But I have to give credit where it is due. It’s a quality piece. The man has done his research, and it shows. It provided me with more than a few revelations… and I’m in the band.”
While not an official book from Faith No More itself, the 376-page offering features interviews with multiple band members, managers and key figures from the band’s 39-year history and has the full endorsement of the San Francisco-based group.
About “Small Victories: The True Story of Faith No More”
“Small Victories…” tells how such a heterogeneous group formed, flourished, and fractured, and how Faith No More helped redefine rock, metal and alternative music. The book chronicles the creative and personal tensions that defined and fueled the band, forensically examines the band’s beginnings in San Francisco’s post-punk wasteland, and charts the group’s ascent to MTV-era stardom. Based on meticulous research and hundreds of interviews, the book combines a fan’s passion with a reporter’s perspicacity.
About Adrian Harte
Adrian Harte is an experienced journalist and communications professional who works as a media intelligence manager for UEFA, the European football governing body. Since 2009 he has run newfaithnomore.com, through which he has become known and trusted by the band, their management and their fans. He lives in Aubonne, Switzerland.

Old school worship! As soon as you get in touch with the songs of this Polish band, you will feel like you are reminded of legendary metal days. Come into life in Warsaw in 2012, THUNDERWAR are paying tribute to bands like DISSECTION, BATHORY, DEATH, OBITUARY and the 1980s NWOBHM. …and much more! After all, the quartet is not content to only emulate their role models. The Poles are also anxious to leave their own accents in the annals of metal. Thus one got to know and appreciate THUNDERWAR on the first EP “The Birth of Thunder” and the full-length debut “Black Storm”.
The five songs of the “Wolfpack” EP continue the chosen path. The Polish group works out even more clearly and compellingly which kind of metal it prefers. This metal is tradition-conscious, harsh and hymnal, and at the same time also complex and exciting. Great riffs, solos, hooklines and poses are part of THUNDERWAR‘s repertoire. The Old School Blackened Death Metal of the quartet has it all! Incidentally, the atmospheric and playful edge of THUNDERWAR‘s metal is surprising and inspiring. These guys know how to write and play metal hymns for eternity.
The “Wolfpack” EP was recorded in Monochrom Studio with producer Haldor (Satanic Audio). Drums were performed by Paweł ‘Pavulon’ Jaroszewicz (HATE), while James Stewart (VADER) filled in for the last live shows of THUNDERWAR. Over their time of existence, the group shared stages with legends such as CARCASS, MAYHEM, AMON AMARTH, ABBATH, DEATH (D.T.A.), OBITUARY, ASPHYX and SINISTER.
“Wolfpack” out May 25th on Lifeforce Records.

That ominous rumbling you heard was not a deception perpetrated by your ears, but rather a warning of a nefarious force emerging from the streets of Birmingham, Alabama. That force is KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE and Night of the Nuberus is now upon us. Released in September 2017, the time has arrive for the rest of the world to heed the warning and prepare for an old school crossover attack that combines Black Metal melodies, Doom/Sludge/Death Metal breakdowns, and in-your-face punk/thrash aggression with lyrical content inspired by horror films. And let’s not forget about the serial-killer themed stage shows!
Stream Night of the Nuberus in its entirety below or by visiting the following link:
The music of Night of the Nuberus was written by Clint Spain and Steve Cater, the former also penning the lyrics. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Matthew Washburn (Mastodon) at LedBelly Sound Studio. Artwork and layout come courtesy of Shawn Knight.
Vocalist/Guitarist Clint Spain had this to say about the band’s macabre creation:
“Night of the Nuberus is our first major release. We went for a horror movie vibe in writing and recording the album, like a love letter to old slasher movies and horror punk bands. But my love for the New Orleans scene, black metal and the Melvins definitely bleeds through.”
KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE started in 2014. They are a heavy crossover band from Birmingham Al, with multiple influences from hardcore, metal and punk. All of these very different influences led them to become their own genre of heavy music with multiple styles flowing through every KZ song.
KAMIKAZE ZOMBIE has shared the stage with Superjoint (Phil Anselmo and Jimmy bower), Max and Igor Cavalera, Cannibal Corpse, Doyle, Crowbar, Power Trip, Raven, OVERKILL, Venom, Child Bite, GoatWhore, Iron Reagan, Battle Cross,Valient Thorr, Havok, Toxic Holocaust, Decapitated, Hammer Fight, GateCreeper, Dark Sermon, Exalted and many more.
Album Line-up:
Clint Spain – Vocals and guitar
Steve Cater – Lead guitar, backing vocals and bass
March 28, 2018 – Fullerton, Calif. – The Melvins, who recently announced the April 20 release of Pinkus Abortion Technician (Ipecac Recordings), have debuted the Mackie Osborne directed video for “Embrace The Rub” – watch below.
“’Embrace The Rub’ is a Steven McDonald penned, punker tune throwback to his days as a young Hawthorne, CA punk hanging out with Black Flag,” explained Dale Crover. “For some reason, I decided that this tune really needed a piano part.”
The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers). The Melvins previously shared the song “Stop Moving To Florida” from the forthcoming release:

Vancouver’s BAPTISTS announce their third full-length album, Beacon Of Faith, now confirmed for release through Southern Lord on May 25th. The album’s brooding “Capsule” has been made available for streaming.
Beacon Of Faith broadly follows the same trajectory as the album’s predecessors, Bushcraft (2013) and Bloodmines (2014) – combining the style of raw adrenaline-fueled emotion, venomous vocal delivery, gigantic guitar sound, and a visceral rhythmic propulsion – a sonic manifestation of desolate rage, bolstered by a palpable sense of urgency. The album is densely packed, yet BAPTISTS‘ sound is far from claustrophobic. There is melody amongst the dissonance, as the band more deeply explore the noise rock vistas that have always underpinned their sound.
Lyrics are drawn from the members’ direct experience of a broken society and general discontentment with everyday life. A multitude of issues are in the firing line, from the Canadian court system, issues surrounding substance abuse, mental health, and how the more fortunate, “tend to dismiss people who have been dealt a less-fortunate hand,” as guitarist Danny also reflects.
Beacon Of Faith was recorded at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou in July 2017, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon.
Hear BAPTISTS’ “Capsule” now at THIS LOCATION or below:
Southern Lord will release Beacon Of Faith on all formats on May 25th; watch for additional updates in the weeks ahead.

From Misfits Records:
After two unforgettable shows to close out 2017 in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, The Original MISFITS will FINALLY… make their triumphant return to where it all began over 30 years ago in New Jersey. The Original MISFITS have announced that the band will reunite for their only area performance at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on May 19th. Now fans on the east coast will have their first opportunity to experience reunited original singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and original bassist Jerry Only. This unprecedented reunion and lineup of legendary horror-punk trailblazers/modern-metal pioneers was one of the hottest tickets of 2017, and will now undoubtedly be again in 2018.
Ticket prices starting at $49.50 (not including applicable service charges or fees) have gone on-sale to the general public on Friday, February 2nd at 10 a.m. EST at ticketmaster.com.
From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America. The MISFITS significance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock, metal & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the Original MISFITS achieved in their initial seven-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music.
The MISFITS with Danzig’s anthemic songs and unmistakable voice, Only’s ferocious bass sound, and the Original MISFITS melody-induced choruses and authentically bruising musicianship, cemented their importance with all ensuing generations. And now legions of diehard fans from around the world will have the opportunity to hear the Original Band that forges a level of intensity unprecedented in the new millennium. Don’t miss this important chapter in the legendary band’s legacy of brutality.
Avant doom collective EYE OF NIX will play this year’s edition of Northwest Terror Fest alongside Witch Mountain, Woman Is The Earth, Falls Of Rauros, and Ragana. The band will be performing tunes from their Black Somnia full-length, issued late last year via newly launched Scry Recordings. EYE OF NIX will also play a special record release show February 2nd with additional live rituals in the plotting stages.
Captured by renowned producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Om, Pallbearer) at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, Oregon and mastered by Brad Boatwright (Gatecreeper, Necrot), Black Somnia centers itself on themes of fear, control, and anxiety while shape-shifting through a lens of blackened psychedelia and doom. Commented vocalist Joy Von Spain, “For me, the album is an exploration of the forces of fear and control, responses to these insidious, unseen powers, the specter that remains when we awaken from mysterious and frightening dreams. Billy Anderson worked with us on ideas to preserve the noisier elements of our sound and create layers of atmosphere surrounding the voice.”
Black Somnia is available digitally and in a full color gatefold LP presentation with 180-gram black vinyl, limited to 250 copies at the EYE OF NIX Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION where the record can also be streamed in full.
EYE OF NIX:
2/02/2018 Highline – Seattle, WA
5/31/2018 Northwest Terror Fest @ Barboza – Seattle, WA
EYE OF NIX first began to create abrasive yet kaleidoscopic sounds in 2012. Current members — vocalist Joy Von Spain, guitarist Nicholas Martinez, bassist Zach Wise (Hissing), noise artist Masaaki Masao, and drummer Luke Laplante — strive to conjure music that’s threatening, beautiful, and harsh. EYE OF NIX toured the West Coast with noise veterans Blue Sabbath Black Cheer in 2013, then chose an expanded route including the Rockies and Southwest in 2015. Since their inception, EYE OF NIX has shared the stage with diverse notable acts such as Voivod, Jarboe, SubRosa, Sea Of Bones, King Dude, Lesbian, Worm Ouroboros, Eight Bells, Tengger Cavalry, and more.
Moros, their first LP, was released in 2015 via Eugene-based imprint Belief Mower (Muscle And Marrow, Hungers). The album was captured by the hands of accomplished Seattle-based engineer Brandon Fitzsimons (Bell Witch, Anhedonist) at Airport Grocery in Seattle and mastered by Justin Weis at Trakworx in San Francisco. The record was reissued digitally with two bonus studio tracks: “Blood In The Fire” and “Rome Burned.”
Ohio sludgecore veterans FISTULA have confirmed a spring tour this May with fellow sludge stalwarts Come To Grief. The soul-crushing journey will commence on May 1st in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and trample thirteen venues through May 13th in Portland, Maine with Cough, Midmourner, and No Funeral to appear on select shows. See confirmed dates below.
FISTULA recently issued the first wave of an ongoing split seven-inch series celebrating twenty years of sonic misery. Released via PATAC Records, the first two installments find FISTULA sharing wax space with Come To Grief and -(16)-.
The band’s split with Come To Grief features two original and categorically scathing unreleased tracks while the second features -(16)- ‘s cover of “Complications” by Killing Joke and FISTULA‘s rendition of “Mongoloid,” by Devo.
If you missed it, stream both splits via Decibel alongside an in-depth interview with guitarist Corey Bing, at THIS LOCATION.
Each limited edition seven-inch is available in various color variants (all clear vinyl is sold out). The Come To Grief / FISTULA split is also available on cassette. To order, visit THIS LOCATION.

FISTULA will unveil additional splits with Hemdale, Fister, and one final band to be announced at a later date. Additionally, the band will issue a vinyl version of 2016’s Longing For Infection with a bonus etched seven-inch from the recording session. Details to be announced in the coming weeks.
FISTULA was forged in 1998 by musical partners-in-crime Corey Bing and Bahb Branca. Over the years, FISTULA has released a seemingly endless barrage of studio albums and split EPs through numerous lineup changes featuring the creative talents of bands such as Sloth, Hemdale, The Disease Concept, Accept Death, and so many others. FISTULA is a band that is impossible to categorize, combining elements of remedial sludge, hardcore and a proverbial “bad case of the Mondays.” Nearing two decades of ear bleeding, FISTULA remains the the miserable kings of sludgecore.
