Heavy Metal pioneers ANVIL have announced the release of a brand new studio album, entitled ImpactIsImminent, due out on May 20, 2022 via AFM Records!
The Canadian trio belongs to one of the most distinctive bands of their genre, often cited as having influenced notable metal acts such as Slayer, MEGADETH, Metallica and Anthrax. After 40 years in the music industry, touring the world in sold-out venues, and garnering critically acclaim for Anvil! TheStory Of Anvil – the number 1 music documentary of every metalhead – the iconic band returns with their nineteenth album.
On ImpactIsImminent, ANVIL fires off merciless riff attacks, relentlessly driving drums and impressive bass grooves, complemented by vocal melodies and lyrics that inevitably drill themselves into the listener’s aural tract. As always, Kudlow and founding member and drummer Robb Reiner, are at the epicentre of this heavy metal extravaganza. For the past eight years, they have been supported by bassist Chris Robertson, who not only complements the ANVIL fold on a personal level, but also enhances the tracks with his powerful low frequency bass parts and backing vocals.
Today, ANVIL shared a first single alongside a music video for the full pedal-to-the-metal anthem ‘Ghost Shadow’! Says charismatic frontman Lips: “Ghost Shadow is my 6th sense telling me I’m being watched! Could be internet trolls or paranormal phenomenon! Either way the song is heavy as fuck!!“
“None of our previous albums blends music and lyrics into as tight a unit as ‘Impact Is Imminent’,” enthuses Lips on the fourteen songs on the group’s new album. “Everything comes together homogeneously. As a result, the new material sounds monolithic, right down to the very last details, both in terms of rhythm and harmonies. In the past, our studio sessions were sometimes like a little like jumping in at the deep end, with us having to improvise a lot and making decisions at short notice. Working on ‘Impact Is Imminent’, not only was there plenty of time for the songwriting process in the run-up to the recordings, but I also had the leisure to put all my ideas to the acid test and work on them until they were perfect.”
Like its three predecessors ‘Anvil Is Anvil’ (2016), ‘Pounding The Pavement’ (2018) and ‘Legal At Last’ (2019), ‘Impact Is Imminent’ was produced by Martin ‘Mattes’ Pfeiffer (U.D.O., among others) and Jörg Uken at Uken’s Soundlodge studios, so the successful combination consisting of Anvil/Pfeiffer/Uken has struck again.
The album pre-sale of ImpactIsImminent, available as CD, Vinyl and Digital formats on May 20, 2022, has just started at THIS LOCATION!

TABAHI is a Thrash Metal band from Karachi, Pakistan. A city is known as the most violent in Pakistan, and among the world’s most dangerous. A perfect breeding ground for quality thrash metal. TABAHI, takes its cues from 80’s German thrash bands such as Destruction and Kreator, armed with some classic pre-86 Bay Area ideas.
With stingy vocals and claustrophobic riffs, the music will take you right into the heart of Pakistan’s most dangerous city with a pure thrash assault that numbs the brain. After an 8 year hiatus, TABAHI returns; being both a pioneer of thrash metal in Pakistan and their country’s only thrash metal band.
Watch and listen to their new music video for new single Politricks below. A damn good song and worthy of many listens on any metalhead’s playlist. Crank it up you metal muthas!!
Triskelyon is a Canadian melodic thrash metal project created by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI. Conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project, the first self-titled EP released on January 25, 2022.
Triskelyon features the contributions of vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment).
Geoff Waye explains in further detail how the project came to be:
“The project formed in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It began because I wanted an outlet for more melodic, yet still savage sounding thrashy metal. I wanted to do this as a studio project so I could get things together myself, which means I can do so fairly quickly if I want to. I did all the songs, wrote the lyrics, and play all the guitar and bass on the EP. I cannot play drums, so I found the fantastic Raul Marques. I wanted the vocals to be melodic so after I had the songs together I asked my vocal god friend, Pete Healey, to do some vocals. I sent him what I had and he was into it and you can hear him on tracks Hunger and Find A Way. The last puzzle piece for the EP is Marlee Ryley – the very versatile vocalist for the killer Canadian band Hyperia. I took a shot in the dark and introduced myself and asked if she’d like to guest on the EP and she agreed to be on the closing track Odyssey (Blessed by Steel).”
Today, in support of the debut EP’s release, Triskelyon is unveiling their lyric video for EP opener “Hunger”, a track that starts with no buildup just straight into the fun speedy thrash riffage.
“This was also the first song I wrote for this project. After I had it written and got the drums done, I knew I was onto something. The song is about a hunger for change in the world. I am not a fan of the way the world is heading in terms of politics, divisions, and how stuck in their ways and traditions people are. The chorus line “It’s the time for the fearless to rise. A hunger for change in their eyes.” gets to the theme and heart of the song’s idea.” adds Waye.
With antithetic choruses that you can sing along to, speedy head-banging riffs and just a straight to the point melodic thrash sound, Triskelyon is recommended for fans of Anthrax, Death Angel, Metal Church, Testament and Forbidden.

Arizona groove metal outfit INCITE returns with new songs up their sleeves and have recently signed a contract with Atomic Fire Records. Following five relentless albums and an insane touring schedule under their belts, Richie Cavalera and his gang of misfits gear up for Wake Up Dead, set for release on March 25th. This infectious collection of raucous new tracks and remastered gems from their fifteen-plus year career proves once again that INCITE are indeed the missing link between Machine Head and Lamb Of God.
On their five albums TheSlaughter (2009), AllOutWar (2012), UpInHell (2014), Oppression (2016), and Built To Destroy (2019), INCITE cemented their reputation as one of America’s leading groove armadas, heavily hitting home with their blend of old-school thrash majesty, frantic aggression, melody, skill, and bravado. What began as a band of greenhorns driving around the States in a shitty van, thrashing small clubs, has evolved into a band with the potential, the passion, and the power to become one of metal’s biggest acts.
Written in several bouts of feverish inspiration during last year’s pandemic chaos, WakeUpDead delivers the goods in the most relentless way. With recording duties again handled by legendary producer Steve Evetts (who Richie Cavalera notes is, “the only guy who can simultaneously record The Cure and Suicide Silence and pull it off”) in Omen Room Studios just outside Los Angeles, here’s a band that couldn’t be more comfortable with the place they’re in right now.
Kicking off the proceedings with the open fire that is “Fuck With Me (Wake Up Dead),” the record’s menacing second track, “War Soup,” will make a lasting impression on international heavy metal troops standing as the first INCITE song ever to feature the vocals of both Richie and his step-father Max Cavalera, a historical gathering of heavy metal generations.
Comments Richie Cavalera, “Metalheads, we’ve held back this beast long enough! It’s time! We’ve reworked the team, we’ve added more heavy metal, and couldn’t be more fired up! Our new album Wake Up Dead will drop with MinusHead/Atomic Fire Records for the first time ever! This album is exactly what the metal world needs to kick off 2022 heavy AF!”
Atomic Fire Records CEO and founder MarkusWosgien adds, “When Dez Fafara, singer of DevilDriver and manager of acts like Cradle Of Filth, Jinjer, and 8 Kalacas, introduced us the new material of INCITE, we were simply blown away. Those five new tracks simply were the shit! Each track was super catchy, straightforward, and massively brutal and aggressive. I couldn’t believe that I missed this incredible band over all these years and had a new mission: The metal world needs to know about INCITE and how great they are. So, the idea starts to grow to not only do an EP, but also add the best of their old tracks, remaster them, and demonstrate what INCITE is about. This new release is one of the best modern thrash metal releases of all time. This is both fresh, unique, and still somehow old-school as fuck. Fronted by Richie Cavalera, this band has an amazing singer with a serious history and well known parents. Check them out; you all will love them.”

New Orleans thrash icons EXHORDER will return to the road later this month on a US headlining tour. The journey runs from November 24th through December 19th and will see the band performing their classic 1990 debut, Slaughter In The Vatican, in its entirety!
Comments vocalist Kyle Thomas: “It seems kind of crazy that EXHORDER is finally doing a proper US tour for Slaughter In The Vatican in 2021, thirty-one years after its release. The opportunities and possibilities didn’t line up for us back in the day, so we’ve decided to take this show on the road and give everyone a proper tribute to this landmark album. As a band, we are truly grateful and honored to be able to do this, and for me it’s simply amazing. Almost like watching one of your children grow up and succeed in life! Without overstating the obvious too much, it’s going to be immeasurably exciting to once again take the show on the road after more than a year and a half on hold due to the pandemic. May we all find good health in the upcoming months to make the shows on this tour as exciting to witness as it is for us to perform them! We look forward to rolling with our support acts Take Offense, Extinction A.D., and Plague Years as well. See you all soon, can’t wait!”
Formed in 1986, EXHORDER’s thirty-five-year long (and counting) journey has proven exciting, yet tumultuous, fraught with euphoric peaks and crippling valleys throughout its existence. The band recorded their controversial classic demo, Slaughter In The Vatican, in 1987 and from there, the international attention the band drew via the world of underground tape-trading was indisputable. As fate would have it however, the band broke up for the first time in early 1988 due to internal struggles. A reformation ensued later that year and EXHORDER set out once again to pursue its vision.
The band soon signed with Mean Machine Records but the label dissolved before the band’s debut could be completed. The contract was subsequently purchased by R/C Records, a subsidiary of Roadracer/Roadrunner Records in the United States. With a small recording budget and repair to previous sessions, Slaughter In The Vatican was completed and released with the assistance of legendary producer Scott Burns in 1990, nearly five years after much of the material was written.
Following a series of lineup shifts, a second full-length, and multiple hiatuses, the band finally relaunched itself in 2017. Legends grow over time, and new generations emerge to keep them alive. With the demand of EXHORDER at an all-time high, the band set out once again to finish the job they had not yet completed. The band played a series of club shows and festivals to immense interest. A deal with the Nuclear Blast label was quickly inked and in 2019 the band released Mourn The Southern Skies. Rave reviews from critics and fans saw the band’s popularity increase yet again, and the band set out on the road to packed venues and large festivals.
In March of 2020, a direct support tour slot in front of Overkill allowed the band to showcase themselves at the level they had always strived to reach. Live reviews of the tour and audience reaction proved that the hunger for this band by the public continues to grow.
Slaughter In The Vatican, which was recently inducted into Decibel Magazine’s coveted Hall Of Fame series and re-released on vinyl, remains a crucial release in the annals of metal.
Decibel hailed the band’s “precision groove and whip-smart thrash,” Invisible Oranges lauded a, “groundbreaking and incredibly heavy slab of groove-infused thrash and speed metal,” Sputnik Music commended, “an album which helped to kick-start the groove metal revolution, while staying true to its thrash roots,” while AllMusic observed the album’s, “death metal-style double kick drums, chugging guitar riffs played at both slow and blistering tempos, and…the gruff but very expressive lead vocals of frontman Kyle Thomas,” After a seventeen month halt in touring due to the pandemic, EXHORDER put on a legendary performance of Slaughter In The Vatican in its entirety at Psycho Las Vegas 2021 and are fully ready to return to the stage with the record that started it all.
Canadian thrashers LUTHARO have finally released their new video “Hopeless Abandonment”. The song is taken from their upcoming album Hiraeth.
Vocalist Krista Shipperbottom comments: Hopeless Abandonment has finally been released world wide and it comes with a strong meaning! This song wants you to remember that you were put on this earth with purpose and you have a destiny to fulfill!”
Chicago-based thrash metal trio MISFIRE has joined EntertainmentOne for the release of their upcoming new full-length!
In 2004, at the age of 13 and 14 respectively, drummer James Nicademus and guitarist/vocalist Jay Johnson formed what ended up becoming the thrash metal band Diamond Plate. In 2007, Johnson left that band and has since released multiple solo projects. Diamond Plate went on to release two albums through Earache Records and played multiple tours and shows sharing stages with the likes of such thrash metal icons as Overkill, Death Angel, Testament, Megadeth, D.R.I., and others.
Fast forward to 2018. Nicademus joined forces with Tommy Denniger of End Of Sanity and Sean Coogan of Vitrial to launch MISFIRE. Shortly thereafter, Denniger decided to follow a different path. Nicademus called the only man for the job: his old friend, Jay Johnson. The decision would ultimately solidify MISFIRE‘s lineup. MISFIRE has been active ever since opening shows for Iron Reagan, Sacred Reich, and more. Writes Metal Crypt, “For a young band, these guys are tight as hell and damn fine performers, from Jay Johnson’s crunchy, skull-piercing riffs to Jim Nicademus’ pounding, bestial drum work to the angsty, Robb Flynn-esque rasps and merciless bass lines of vocalist/bassist Sean Coogan… these fellows are ready for the big leagues…”
Comments MISFIRE on their union with eOne, “We are beyond excited to join forces with eOne! We are so grateful to have the opportunity to share our music with so many people. Thanks to everyone who has supported and believed in us. We will see you soon!” Stand by for further news on MISFIRE to be announced in the coming weeks!

LIVINGWRECKAGE – a new metal powerhouse comprised of vocalist JeffGard (Death Ray Vision), guitarists JonDonais (Anthrax, Shadows Fall), MattLeBreton (Downpour), bassist MattBachand (Shadows Fall, Act of Defiance) and drummer JonMorency (Let Us Prey) – have signed with M-Theory Audio. The group’s debut single “Breaking Point” – described by Revolver as “a throwback rager that sees Donais and LeBreton shredding their hearts out while Gard showcases his John Bush-esque pipes” – was revealed earlier this year through a music video that can be viewed HERE. The soon-to-be-renowned collective’s blasts of melodic, over-driven power will be further unleashed at upcoming live performances throughout New England for five weekends, beginning with a headlining performance this past Saturday, July 31 in Agawam, Mass.
The as-yet-untitled debut album from LIVINGWRECKAGE – produced and engineered by Shane Frisby (Unearth, Bury Your Dead), and mixed by Pete Rutcho (Revocation, Falling in Reverse) – will be released later this year. In the meantime, the band and M-Theory Audio have teamed up to make a three-song EP titled “One Foot in the Grave” available to metal enthusiasts who are fortunate enough to attend the group’s upcoming live shows. Copies of the EP sold at these dates will be autographed and hand-numbered by band members. Fans who don’t live in New England will have an opportunity to get their hands on “One Foot in the Grave” later this year, as the EP is now available for pre-order (to be fulfilled in September) HERE.
Says Bachand, “LIVING WRECKAGE is thrilled to announce our partnership with M-Theory Audio and finally get this train rolling. Jon Donais and I have been working with Marco for over 20 years with Shadows Fall, including the recent vinyl reissues. It only makes sense for us to add LIVING WRECKAGE as a part of the M-Theory family. They have a clear understanding that this is not simply a ‘side project’ for us and hope to take it as far as we can. There are some big plans on the horizon, and we are looking forward to finally getting some music into all of your hands very soon!”
The track listing for “One Foot in the Grave” is as follows:

First-ever vinyl and cassette releases due Sept. 17 alongside expanded 2CD feat. bonus disc of live material
M-Theory Audio will reissue “State of Insurgency,” the acclaimed 2008 debut album from California neo-thrashers HEXEN, on Sept. 17. The band’s combination of old-school ferocity, new-school technicality and socially conscious lyrics helped them stand out in the fiercely competitive Southern California thrash revival that birthed acts such as Warbringer, Exmortus, Merciless Death and Fueled By Fire. Pre-orders for the upcoming reissue – available as a red vinyl double LP, limited cassette and a 2CD with a bonus disc of previously unreleased live tracks – are available now HERE.
Says drummer Carlos Cruz (Warbinger, Machine Head, Power Trip, Ohm), “Thirteen years later, out from the remains of the blast radius, no longer out-of-print, prepare yourselves for a brand-new double-CD with loads of never-before-heard extras and for the first time ever, the album on vinyl and cassette! My goal was to celebrate my first-ever full-length studio album by pressing and releasing it DIY on vinyl, but thanks to Marco Barbieri, his team at M-Theory Audio and the extensive archive of founding member Andre Hartoonian, we were able to go above and beyond our expectations on this re-release for thrash fans everywhere! Amass the insurrection!”
“State of Insurgency” – originally released by OSM Records – was powered by the shredding double-guitar assault of Ronny Dorian and James Lopez, the precise drumming of Cruz and the dextrous bass and searing vocals of Hartoonian. The album – produced by Dave Swanson (Carnifex, Riot V), and featuring cover art from iconic metal artist Ed Repka (Megadeth, Death) – was hailed by Blabbermouth for being “well-written, molten thrash metal… heartfelt and proudly old-school… jam-packed with great riffs.” HEXEN supported the album’s release via touring alongside fellow new-school thrashers such as Rattlehead and Mantic Ritual. Check out the band’s self-produced 2008 music video for the title track HERE.
M-Theory Audio’s reissue of “State of Insurgency” includes new liner notes and never-before-seen photos from the archive of Hartoonian. He adds, “The most important part of this entire project for me was how the vinyl would sound. I am SO glad to say that we lucked out. I’ve not been able to stop listening to the LP test pressings because our album has never sounded so good. EVERYTHING has been improved in the new vinyl remaster. Better instrument separation. Better vocal presence, allowing the riffs to be better heard now without anything being buried. You can actually clearly hear the bass guitar now! The kick drums have a bassy boom to them now, and parts where you couldn’t exactly hear the riffs underneath the vocals, you can hear them all clearly now the entire time. Everything has improved. Vinyl-heads are gonna eat this shit up!”
More information on HEXEN and “State of Insurgency” will be unveiled in the weeks to come by M-Theory Audio.
The last time I saw War Curselive it was at Oddbody’s in Dayton, Ohio and they lit the place up! Of course that was before the Covid nightmare; I figure it was four years ago or so. Regardless, I am chomping at the bit to see War Curse live again many more times.
War Curse originate from Cincinnati, Ohio and could have fit in rather appropriately during the golden age of Thrash. I’m not bullshitting you. I experienced that beginning era of Thrash Metal (in the pits) and I take my Thrash seriously. War Curse has had some lineup changes since their 2015 debut release Final Days and are currently preparing for their 2021 live dates.
Since the release of Final Days, War Curse have released a full-length studio album in 2019 titled: Eradication. If you want to sink your Metal battered brain into Final Days then you have my Metal blessings. I bought Final Days on cassette from the merch table at the War Curse show. Needless to say, I have played this cassette so often it feels like an appendage. I have a cassette player built into my 21 year old car, just in case you were wondering.
Above: my War Curse Final Days cassette
The vocalist for War Curse on this debut is Tarek Puska and he manifests all of the brawn and dominance I look for in a Metal voice. War Curse doesn’t try to be like any other Thrash band; however they do a dynamite undertaking of being, well, War Curse. Guitarists JoshuaMurphy and Justin Roth are a formidable duo and a blast to get into. Damn good stuff. Eric Payne on bass and James Goetz on drums lay down the rhythmic foundation on Final Days.
The songs on Final Days are lyrically pissed-off and find their footing to be 100% relevant in this dreadful year of 2020. Find it, buy it, borrow it, listen to it and whatever you do play this debut from War Curse extremely loud! Metal be thy name – Stone.
Above: my variant (and extremely limited) copy of War Curse Final Days, with different artwork and green cassette shell; track listing is the same.

METAL CHURCH have been on a surging comeback the last several years and we can all thank the Metal Gods for that! I needed to buy their recent release From The Vault on cassette, so I can play it loud in my very old and beloved car. During this pandemic, I purchased this cassette online directly from the mighty Rat Pak Records. METAL CHURCH are incredible to their fans and an experience to see in concert. I had to throw that in. Dig it?
CULTURAL WARFARE deliver the Thrash bounty on their EP Future Kill. I just discovered this outstanding band too. These dudes are from Oakland, California and each band member is obviously seasoned with their Bay Area Thrash Metal roots. Get this, I compare their overall sound to our East Coast Thrash Metal icon, aka, OVERKILL. Hey, that’s a superb Metal compliment! Another pandemic purchase I made online, buying this CD directly from M-Theory Audio.
Right before all hell broke loose with the evil coronavirus, I grabbed this cassette tape version of TRIUMPH‘s Never Surrender. A classic. I bought it at a Goodwill store for a meager 99 cents! It plays like new too. Please ignore that yucky price sticker on the cassette box; I’m going to remove it eventually with the magical Goo Gone. Never Surrender released way back in 1982. Heck, Prince William, Duke Of Cambridge was born back in 1982; on June 21st to be exact. Now I feel kinda old.
Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey and reading this post. I appreciate it more than you know. Leave a comment if you like! In Metal We Trust. Stay safe out there. – Stone
The Polish metal wolfpack Ragehammer have completed work on their highly anticipated second full-length album.
After 4 years of studio inactivity since their critically acclaimed debut “The Hammer Doctrine” and a year-long live hiatus, the band returns with the same line-up to once again spit with scorn at the trend-ridden scene, where aesthetics took over ethics.
In other words, they return to do what they are best at: preaching pure hatred and hammering out their blackened thrash straight into the face.
The new album will be released by Pagan Records later this year, more details will follow soon.
Ragehammer will join Vader, Marduk and Fallcie on the “Blitz MMXX” tour across Poland in September:
18.09. Poznań, U Bazyla* 19.09. Gdańsk, B90* 20.09. Łódź, Magnetofon* 22.09. Kraków, Kwadrat** 23.09. Lublin, Graffiti* 24.09. Białystok, Zmiana Klimatu** 25.09. Wrocław, A2** 26.09. Toruń, Od Nowa** 27.09. Warszawa, Proxima**
Tickets for the tour will go on pre-sale on 1 July via *lefthandsounds.org, *Ticketos and **Eventim.
About eight years ago or so, I bought this EXODUS cassette single at a thrift store for fifty cents. Fifty cents!! It’s still sealed too! I wanted to keep it as an EXODUS collectible, you know? The A side is ‘Objection Overruled’ – the single from their 1990 studio album ‘Impact Is Imminent’.
The B side is a (never before released) cover song of the legendary Ted Nugent’s ‘Free For All’. I don’t recall this cover song ever making it to a future EXODUS album; thus this cassette single is the only way one can own it on a physical format, unless vinyl or CD single versions were released as well?
I really dig these cassette singles from the past and I have a few more to show and tell in the future. Thank you for visiting Metal Odyssey and Metal Forever. – Stone
