On This Day In METAL History – February 22nd… From S.W.A.T. To Lynch Mob

Grand Funk Railroad - Some Kind Of Wonderful - promo 45rpm cover sleeve - #1976MO

On February 22nd, 1975 – Michigan’s Grand Funk Railroad had their hit song, Some Kind Of Wonderful, sitting at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

SWAT - Rhythm Heritage - promo 45rpm pic - #1976MO33

Above: A 45rpm cover sleeve for the S.W.A.T. theme song. It appears that the cover sleeve has Spanish spelling on it too.

On this day in 1976 – The instrumental theme song from the television series S.W.A.T. was a current hit. This song was written by Barry De Vorzon and performed by Rhythm Heritage. I was 10 years old in 1976 and this S.W.A.T. song would psyche-me-out beyond belief! I never missed an episode of S.W.A.T., back in the day either. Get this: My mother (God rest her immensely loving soul) would not allow me to watch Hawaii Five-O and gave the o.k. for me to watch S.W.A.T.; those were good times growing up that will always makes me chuckle.

You gotta remember, this television series was on before every major metropolis, city, town and small village in America had their own S.W.A.T. team at the ready. Nowadays, S.W.A.T. teams are as common as sliced bread. I suppose that’s not a bad thing, in case of an evil Reptilian Alien invasion.

To this day I don’t consider this S.W.A.T. theme  a Disco song. C’mon, now. I’m telling you, man, I felt invincible when I heard this song. I still kinda get those same super hero feelings when I hear this song to this day; therefore, the theme song from S.W.A.T. is… METAL. And I’m a nerd.

Lynch Mob - Winter Tour 2014 - promo tour flyer - #2014LMMO3377

On February 22nd, 2014 – Led by legendary guitarist George Lynch, the famed Lynch Mob performed at M15 in Corona, California, USA. Did you also know that Lynch Mob kicks 100%, potent and undisputed Hard Rock ass?

On this day in 2015Journey’s Greatest Hits is resting at #66 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, moving up 6 places from last week. This album has peaked at #10, while spending 343 weeks on this same chart. Unbelievable! Journey rules.

CinC - promo live band pic - #2015CINCMO335

Kaotoxin is proud to announce that CinC (formerly known as Carnival in Coal) has signed to the French label. CinC is the live band put together and fronted by ex-Carnival In Coal singer Arno Strobl (We All Die [laughing], 6:33 & Arno Strobl…) to pay homage to his former act.

CinC, which features past and present members of 6:33, Infected Society, Yyrkoon, John Makay, Mercyless, Orakle, Gorod, and Fleshdoll, toured throughout 2014 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Carnival In Coal’s debut full-length, Vivalavida. The album was performed in its entirety on the tour.

The tour took the band to two great festivals (the Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault and France’s Motocultor Fest),  as well as many French cities. One of those cities, Amiens, is where it all began for the group several years earlier, and the show was filmed with seven cameras.  The resulting DVD, VivaLIVEvida (a tribute to the music of Carnival in Coal), will be released in advance at the farewell gig, which will take place at Kaotoxin’s second annual festival, KaotoxinFest#II, on December 5th, 2015 in Lille, France. The date for the Kaotoxin DVD release will be announced later in the year.

VivaLIVEvida DVD line-up:

Arno Strobl – vocals (We All Die (laughing), ex-6:33 & Arno Strobl)

Fabien Desgardins (Infected Society, ex-Yyrkoon) – guitars

Romain Caron (John Makay) – guitars

Matthieu Merklen (Mercyless) – bass

Emmanuel Rousseau (6:33, Orakle) – keyboards and samples)

Samuel Santiago (ex-Gorod, Fleshdoll) – drums

BAD GUYS – “Bad Guynaecology” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

Posted in Hard Rock, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on February 21, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Bad Guys - Bad Guynaecology - promo album cover pic - #2014BGMO

4.5 Out Of 5 METAL Fists!

4.5 metal-fists-4-5-album-reviews-metal-odyssey

Bad Guynaecology from London’s Bad Guys will be released on March 16th of 2015, via Riot Season Records. That’s a picture of me, on the above album cover, from my early wrestling days. Just kidding. This album is a skull stomping listen and I equate Bad Guynaecology to a steak, beer and potato dinner with extra steak and extra beer. Yes, it’s very filling with its meaty riffs and foundation shifting rhythm section. The clean and robust vocals of Stuart London are in-your-face, just like this band’s music is. Bad Guys are a band to keep on your Metal radar. If you don’t have a Metal radar, then you’re shit-out-of-luck.

From their entertaining lyrics to their relentless and massive sound, no instrument is faded to the back and there’s no annoying excess of sonic fuzz going on either, on Bad Guynaecology. The widespread heaviness of sound from Bad Guys is so vital to underscore; it’s easy to call this album a herculean listen. With lyrics about stealing a toy car from a Toys “R” Us in the album opener, Crime, along with the second track, Prostitutes (Are Making Love In My Garden), there exists a grand sense of humor within the ranks of Bad Guys, indeed.

Bad Guys - promo band pic - #2015BGMO0221

Bad Guys can surely reach an impressive cross-section of Heavy Rock and Metal fans; there’s plenty of Stoner, early Black Sabbath and Danzig meets Clutch meets Orange Goblin meets C.O.C. influence to delight in, on this album. There are eight songs on Bad Guynaecology and the closing track, No Tomorrow, is the epic song on this album; it clocks in at a whopping 11:47 and is a headbanging, glorious, guitar-driven and roaring last course.

I might add that the fifth track, Reaper and the seventh track, Motorhome, radiate all the credentials of being Punk(ish) songs in the vein of early Motörhead’s style of Rock ‘N’ Roll. The sixth track, Fabled Succubus, is a freaking jam-packed Stoner feast. Putting all musical influences that I hear (and it could just be me hearing it for Metal sakes) aside, Bad Guys have a convincing aura of originality. Bad Guys are that band I always hope to find out about so I can brag about them and feel like a big shot. Bad Guys can take a bow and hopefully will know, someday, that they’ve made Stone very happy. Metal be thy name . – Stone

Scott Coverdale Gets “Hooterized” By “Both Sides Live / The Electric Factory” From The Hooters

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Music, music news, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , on February 21, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

The Hooters - The 30th Anniversary Fan Collection - promo cover pic - #2011THMO0221

As a curious crusader of reflecting on my youth in the 80’s, I started recollecting some of the concerts I saw with my buddies from 1984 to 1989 and tried to remember which shows were good or not so good. We must have seen anywhere between 30 to 40 shows, during that time. Out of nowhere The Hooters came to my mind. I remember seeing them twice as an opening act; once for Bryan Adams and the other time for Loverboy.

As I recall, I thought The Hooters were good and nothing spectacular. As a band I liked quite a few of their songs from their first two studio albums Nervous Night and One Way Home, both of which I owned. After 1987/1988 The Hooters just kind of disappeared from the mainstream Rock scene. To be honest, I really didn’t seek out any new material this band may have recorded.

Now that The Hooters were on my mind, I needed to know what I’ve missed from them over the past 25 years. As I did my research, I discovered this band released 4 more studio albums and 2 live albums. My curiosity persuaded me to purchase a four CD mini box import set titled: The 30th Anniversary Fan Collection. This box set was issued in 2010 and includes 2 studio albums, Time Stands Still and 5 X 5 along with 2 live albums Both Sides Live Disc 1 Live At The Electric Factory and Both Sides Live Disc 2 Secret Sessions Live Acoustic. For the purpose of this post I’m only going to focus on the Both Sides Live/The Electric Factory CD 2.

The Hooters - 30th Anniversary Fan Collection - backside cover promo - #2010THMO0221

Above: back cover & complete track list

After listening to this disc for the first time, I was blown away! I never expected to hear such a tremendous Rock N’ Roll album.   The Both Sides Live/The Electric Factory Disc 2 includes 13 tracks from their 6 studio albums. The concert begins with I’m Alive, a song from their Time Stands Still album. This would be the first time I heard this song! It’s an excellent tune that sets the mood for the entire CD. Over the course of the next 12 songs, more than half consist of their big 1980’s hits: Day By Day, Satellite, Johnny B and my favorite All You Zombies. I’ve always loved the beginning of that song and recorded live it’s even better!

In my humble opinion every song on this CD sounds better when performed live, compared to the studio versions. They even ”Hooterized” a cover of the Don Henley song classic Boys of Summer which is quite good. The concert comes to a Rockin’ conclusion with the song Free Again, also from the Time Stands Still album.

If you’re looking for something a little different from the latest Rock Music norm and want to enjoy some phenomenal Rock ‘N’ Roll performed by a bunch of fantastic musicians, I would recommend purchasing this CD from The Hooters. Hopefully, you’ll be singing along to most of the songs just as I did. I’m thrilled that I took a chance on purchasing this Hooters Box set, for after all these years I find the music of the Hooters spectacular. – Scott Coverdale

BEHEMOTH – Revolver Magazine Unveils Exclusive Excerpts From Forthcoming Biography; North American Live Takeover Continues

Posted in Death Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on February 20, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Behemoth - Devils Conquistadors - promo book cover pic - #2015BMBMO - 66331

Next week, Metal Blade Records will unleash Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors. A definitive BEHEMOTH biography penned by Łukasz Dunaj, the stunning 490-page, hardcover tome takes an in-depth look at the history of the events that materially influenced the band, their music, their ultimate rise to the upper echelon of Metal and becoming a household name in their native homeland of Poland. In addition to the author’s narrative, the book includes quotes and anecdotes from current and former BEHEMOTH members, as well as interviews with Tomas Krajewski, Rob Darken, Graal, Havok, old photos of the band, flyers, lyric sheets and so much more.

In the foreword by Krzysztof Azarewicz (Polish poet, writer, occultist and longtime lyric co-writer): “If, as a cultural anthropologist, I were to point to a single cosmic force which BEHEMOTH’s music expresses, I would name it not Satan but Dionysus. A deity that represents not only the intoxicating influence of cosmic energies and earthly benefits, but also their benevolent healing properties. A deity of strength and pride. A deity of creative might.”

Behemoth - classic band logo - #2015BMO - 330220

In advance of its release, today Revolver Magazine offers up an exclusive excerpt from the book where vocalist/guitarist Nergal recounts his early grade and high school years, his increasing interest in extreme music and his growing skepticism of Catholicism. Check it out at THIS LOCATION.

In related news, BEHEMOTH is currently damning stages throughout North America on a mammoth co-headlining tour with legendary Death Metal practitioners/labelmates, Cannibal Corpse. The month-long takeover continues to march its way across the country and will trample through nearly three-dozen cities upon its conclusion on March 7th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Support comes from two of Sweden’s finest Metal exports: Aeon and Tribulation.

Reports The Dallas Observer of the band’s set, “BEHEMOTH’s credo is the power of the will, and it completely permeates their live show… On a starkly lit stage filled with cast-iron ritualistic symbols, vocalist and guitarist Nergal lurched around with the ease of a seasoned performer. He held the audience in his hand, and his performance alone made it plain why BEHEMOTH’s live show is so renowned.”

SWEET COBRA – Chicago Outfit Signs With Magic Bullet Records For Anxiously Awaited “Earth” LP This Spring

Posted in Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , on February 19, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Sweet Cobra - promo band pic - #2015SCMO933

Album Features Production & Inclusion From Matt Talbot of Hum And Kurt Ballou of Converge

Magic Bullet Records is ecstatic to announce the signing of Chicago-based SWEET COBRA for the release of their anxiously awaited new studio album, Earth, late this Spring. The band’s triumphant new LP was recorded and produced by Matt Talbot of Hum and Kurt Ballou of Converge, and also features guest musical contributions from each artist. Earth is their first full-length recording since their lauded 2010-released Mercy.

Recording was completed in late 2013 with Matt Talbot (Hum) and Kurt Ballou (Converge) at Talbot’s Earth Analog Studios near Champaign, Illinois, mixed by Ballou at his Godcity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and with final mastering by Carl Saff. Earth shows the band hungrier than ever, with the trusted and infectious ferocity fans will expect as well as a slick, more accessible approach.

Issued Magic Bullet Records owner Brent Eyestone on getting hooked by the material on Earth, even before its final mastering, “Holy hell… it’s completely badass! Kind of a new sound for the band; catchier, and I can see the appeal of the sound being much broader than their previous output. I get similar feelings from the best Queens of the Stone Age, Quicksand, and Young Widows records… super catchy slabs of heaviness.”

_______________________

The members of SWEET COBRA collectively offered a humble statement on the signing with Magic Bullet and the upcoming release of Earth: “We are honored to be working with Magic Bullet and have always felt a kinship to the label and artists they release. Earth is a deeply personal album for us, and it was a liberating experience to explore new sounds and dynamics in these songs with Matt and Kurt at the helm capturing it.”

Earth will see release late this Spring on multiple formats; stand by in the coming weeks for an official street date, additional insight and audio samples from the LP. Also watch for SWEET COBRA tour dates throughout the year, including an already sold-out show with Hum in Grand Rapids on April 25th.

SWEET COBRA – Tour Dates:

3/27/2015 Drunken Donut – Joliet, IL

3/28/2015 Melody Inn – Indianapolis, IN w/ Kvlthammer

4/04/2015 The Burlington – Chicago, IL w/ Auxes

4/25/2015 Pyramid Scheme – Grand Rapids, MI w/ Hum, Cloakroom (SOLD OUT)

The dedication of its members and the band’s storied lineage has helped make SWEET COBRA a household name to fans of bold rock and post-hardcore internationally, and a staple within the bustling music scene of their hometown of Chicago. Founded in 2003 by former members of a wide array of notable underground acts and boasting the fury and angular qualities of their hardcore/noise-rock/metal roots with a more straightforward rock rhythm and delivery, the band came into existence and toured alongside the likes of Pelican, Russian Circles, Coliseum, Black Cobra, Doomriders, The Life And Times, Young Widows and many more.

_______________________

SWEET COBRA toured regularly throughout the first decade of the 2000s, and released a crushing load of recorded material, including three LPs — 2004’s Praise through Seventh Rule Recordings, 2007’s Forever through Hawthorne Street Records, and 2010’s Mercy on Blackmarket Activities — as well as split releases with Doomriders, Get Rad, and Young Widows among other releases.

In fall 2009, with Mercy just completed, second guitarist Mat Arluck lost his ongoing fight with cancer. Arluck’s death left a deep scar on the entire Chicago music scene (and beyond). SWEET COBRA committed to soldier on as a three-piece, as they began, resulting in a transformation of the band in the following years. The members have pushed forward — playing shows, constructing new material, and exploring new sounds. These efforts have culminated in the upcoming release of Earth.

SWEET COBRA:

Jason Gagovski – drums and cymbals

Robert Arthur Lanham Jr. – guitar

Botchy Vasquez (aka Tim Remis) – vocals and bass

February 19th, 1980 – The legendary Bon Scott passed away, at age 33. To think that Bon Scott died way, way too young is an understatement. Back in 1980, I only knew of one song from AC/DC and that was Highway To Hell, due to my local  (Hartford, Connecticut) FM radio stations (WCCC, WHCN, WPLR) playing it and the late, great Casey Kasem spinning it on his American Top 40 syndicated radio program. This was a time when I was discovering Heavy Rock and not realizing AC/DC had a mother load of incredible albums with Bon Scott. Man, did I learn very fast as to who Bon Scott was; it was immediately following his death, unfortunately.

I can remember my Mother (God rest her beautiful soul) saying to me, upon my holding the Highway To Hell album at our local Caldor department store: not in my house, no sir, bub. Funny thing is, she bought me both Back In Black and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap on 8-track tapes, upon their releases! What a difference an album cover makes! My Mother probably thought it was an entirely different band on those 8-tracks too. As I’ve stated many times before, my Mother eventually became the most embracing soul for Metal that I could have ever dreamed for.

The eventual release of AC/DC’s Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, in the USA, only super solidified that the late Bon Scott was a tried and true Hard Rock legend and his legacy was to live on forever. This great album finally hit American shores in September of 1981. As the FM radio stations began to play this album’s title song and Big Balls, it was as if Bon Scott never left us at all! Yes, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap was released earlier in 1976 for AC/DC’s homeland of Australia and (maybe) other countries; yet this album released within fourteen months of Back In Black and I easily became a simultaneous fan of both AC/DC eras.

Hard Force Magazine - Bon Scott - Fr- Jan - 1990 - #33BSMO

Above: Hard Force Magazine – France / January 1990

To this day, I will listen to the Bon Scott era of AC/DC just as much as the Brian Johnson era. In my Metal heart, I do believe Bon Scott to be the better vocalist, out of the two. My favorite Bon Scott sung AC/DC song of all-time is: Touch Too Much. This unreal great song is featured on Highway To Hell. Touch Too Much never received the FM radio airplay it deserved; at least not in Connecticut where I grew up. There are dozens of other songs that psyche me out that Bon Scott sings; not listing them all here doesn’t make a difference at all. My main Metal thought of today is remembering the late and great Bon Scott and thanking him for all his timeless music and unique voice. Bon Scott can never be equalled. Rest in peace, Bon Scott. – Stone

RABID ASSASSIN – Horror Metal Act Joins HighVolMusic

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music with tags , , , on February 18, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

Rabid Assassin - promo band pic - #2015RAMO02

Horror heavy metal band RABID ASSASSIN has signed a worldwide deal with HighVolMusic for the release of their debut CD ‘Eliminate the System’. Formed in 2013, RABID ASSASSIN is comprised of Thane Farace (Ghost of War) vocals/guitar, Chad Bedsaul – guitar, Dan Delaney – bass, and Corey Brooks – drums.

Plotting their course of mayhem, RABID ASSASSIN gave fans an early taste of what was to come during their live shows. The band has already shared the stage with metal acts such as Raven, Generation Kill, Metal Mike Chlasciak, Michael Angelo Batio, Reverence and Resistence. After cutting their teeth in the mid-atlantic and fine tuning their sound, the band entered the studio with renowned producer Drew Mazurek to record ‘Eliminate the System’.

RABID ASSASSIN has already gained the attention of strong industry players such as Epiphone, Wornstar Clothing, Jagermeister, Pig Hog Cables, Red Beard Leather, Steve Clayton, Ernie Ball, and Deville Ink Tattoo who are all endorsers and/or sponsors of the band.

Strong believers in the U.S. Constitution, ‘Eliminate the System’ takes on the challenging issues that plague the world today. “The songs are straight forward and hit on topics that everybody can relate to but which most are scared to talk about. It runs the gamut of everything that is messed up in the world today. The CD is a testimony of all the hard work that the band has done.” says frontman Thane Farace.

“This project is something very different for HighVolMusic and I was excited that Thane contacted me about working with him. RABID ASSASSIN in its simplest form is just great heavy metal and diversifies the label.”Bill Chavis CEO HighVolMusic

‘Eliminate the System’ is set for a late May release but the band is holding a special private CD release party April 11th at The Ballroom in Waynesboro, PA.

KISS – On This Day In METAL History – February 18th, 1974 – KISS Released Their Legendary Debut / Self-Titled Studio Album

Posted in classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, rock music with tags , , , , on February 18, 2015 by Metal Odyssey

KISS - Debut Album - promo cover pic!!

On this day in KISSTORY – February 18, 1974KISS released their self-titled debut album, via Casablanca Records. I have to pinch myself, realizing that this KISS album is 41 years old! This was a phenomenal debut album from the iconic KISS, a launching pad to eventual world super stardom that continues to this very hour. Here was a debut Heavy Rock album that featured three singers. How many bands of any Rock genre pulled that off back then or now? The great Ace Frehley didn’t even sing on this album; how crazy is that?

Black Diamond is my favorite song that the awesome Peter Criss has ever sung, even though I will always dig his power ballad, Beth, from 1976’s KISS album Destroyer. The fascinating aspect about this KISS album is that it gave Rock fans three singers that did not sound alike. Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss were and still are so unique, vocally, that it’s alarming in a grand way.

KISS - band logo from debut album - #1974KMO

This album features such KISS classics: Strutter, Firehouse, Cold Gin, Deuce, 100,000 Years and Black Diamond. These are songs that have remained relevant to this day, in my Metal opinion. Strutter and Black Diamond are two KISS songs that I couldn’t live without, for Metal sakes! To this day I love the rawness of sound that this KISS debut radiates. This was not a polished album, by any stretch of the Metal imagination. To remaster this KISS album is a Metal sin.

I was only eight years old when this KISS album was released. I had absolutely no idea KISS even existed at that tender age. At eight years old, all I cared about was the Saturday morning cartoons, coloring books, bugs and my Matchbox car collection. Back then, it was a different culture in America, with (of course) no internet, cell phones or social networks. Little kids like myself were able to enjoy childhood and not be rushed into pre-adulthood; little kids of today cannot even be seen in the toy aisles of Super Walmart. Instead, I have to navigate myself around little kids swarming the computers, cell phones and accessories at Best Buy; and these same little kids are crabbing at their parents, while wearing Slipknot tee shirts and $200 sneakers. You get the point, hopefully.

KISS - Debut Album - promo cover pic!!

Is it accurate for me to state that both KISS and their debut album were ahead of their time? I lean towards thinking so. From reading those early album reviews of that time period, I don’t believe the early Rock critics knew what to think or write about KISS. Back in 1974, Rolling Stone magazine was still in a full-throttle state of Flower Power. Heck, the Summer Of Love was only six or so years prior to this KISS album’s release. Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, The Who, Cream, Free, Led Zeppelin and Alice Cooper already introduced the world to the building blocks of Heavy Metal, thus KISS realistically did get in line when it came to Hard and Heavy Rock. Still, the pioneering Hard Rock and Heavy Metal credentials of this KISS debut album cannot be overlooked.

KISS did break loose with an original sound of melodic heaviness and their stage makeup, image and costumes were and still are stuff of marketing genius. The influence of KISS upon other bands to this day cannot be disputed and it all began with this seminal debut album. Would KISS have been embraced any less by Rock fans if there were no makeup or costumes involved? I guess we’ll never know. Thank God for that.

KISS - band logo from debut album - #1974KMO

The first time I ever owned this terrific album was my sophomore year in high school and I obtained it through a trade with a fellow classmate. Whenever an iconic album such as this KISS debut comes up for discussion, I cannot help myself from being nostalgic about the past. For me, remembering the past is celebrating the past. It is albums such as this KISS debut from 1974 that enabled our Hard Rock and Heavy Metal communities to grow and persevere these past four decades. KISS, along with their select peers, paved the way for us all to enjoy the heavy music we embrace today and the KISS debut album will always be a treasure in my Metal world. This KISS album I could never take for granted. Metal be thy name. – Stone

TNT “30th Anniversary 1982 – 2012 Live In Concert” – A Metal Odyssey Album Review

TNT - 30th Anniversary - 1982 - 2012 - Live album promo cover pic - #2014TH

5 METAL Fists Out Of 5!

Metalfistredbckgrndsmall5

Norway’s legendary TNT released a live 19 song album and its full proper title is: 30th Anniversary 1982-2012 Live In Concert With Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. This album was released back on November 10th of 2014. With the legendary Tony Harnell being such an important member in the history of TNT, it is only fitting that this symphonic Heavy Metal concert features him on vocals. Anytime Tony Harnell rejoins TNT, it’s fine to me! With the uncertainty of TNT’s future with or without Tony Harnell aside, this live album is a steel-solid must for every TNT and Classic Heavy Metal and Hard Rock fan.

This album marks the third official live album from TNT and each one features Tony Harnell on vocals. Tony Harnell was the lead singer and co-songwriter on eight consecutive TNT studio albums, from 1984 to 2005. If you are unfortunate to not have experienced TNT in concert (like myself) then this live album (and its live predecessors) will be as close as you can get in taking in a TNT concert. It took me many listens to this album to confidently give it such high praise; the more I listened, the more I have absorbed the details.

The grandiose element of featuring all three lead singers from TNT’s legendary Hard Rock history on this album, makes for fantastic fraternity. Original vocalist Dag Ingebrigtsen and post-Tony Harnell era vocalist Tony Mills are also featured during this recorded concert. The great Tony Mills remains an outstanding vocalist and had carried the vocalist torch with TNT for more than a few years, singing on TNT’s last three studio albums.

We are always at the mercy of the live recording and rely on a conscientious and true production. With this live TNT album, there are many musical aspects to this concert; the symphony, the band, vocals, backing vocals and guitar solos. That may be nothing new, however, when listening to a live album such as this, everything needs to come together in close to perfection sonically, as if I was actually sitting in the arena where it all happened. I believe TNT succeeded in delivering a memorable live experience to my ears, anyways.

TNT - Live Concert Pic - Tony Harnell - #2014THTNTMO

Above: L to R: Tony Harnell and Ronni Le Tekrø

Tony Harnell is (per usual) top-tier vocally and these TNT vocalists could be considered to be unknowingly dueling with the symphony orchestra at times. In reality, this is still a recording and capturing for digital download or CD every vocal nuance spot-on, with so much spectacular music being performed, is not going to be an easy task. TNT as a unit are nothing short of fabulous, these are incredible musicians that seem to fit perfectly with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, this is the Electric Light Orchestra meets TNT, if you will, only super better. After so many listens to this album, it just all makes 100% sense to me.

TNT - 30 year anniversary - promo logo - 1982 - 2012

Rest assured, TNT rocks-it-out on this album and the captured sounds of the fans in attendance only elevates the rockin’ psyched out mood and atmosphere. When the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra kicks into Sabre Dance on track #11, it’s as if the musical magic can still be non-Metal at times in my life. My favorite songs on this live album are, in no particular order: Invisible Noise, Northern Lights, My ReligionEddieIntuition, Magica Lanterna, the swingin’ June and the insane grand guitar solo by the great Ronni Le TekrøNorthern Lights, Eddie and Magica Lanterna are songs that create goose bump city all over my face and arms. Yup. I will enjoy this TNT 30th Anniversary live album for the rest of my Metal life. Metal be thy name. – Stone

As reported on the Within the Ruins Facebook page:

(New York, NY) – Massachusetts Metal act WITHIN THE RUINS flipped their van and trailer off an interstate in Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon. While no one was hurt, their van, trailer and gear were completely destroyed. “We rolled about three times from what I can remember and landed on the median. Our van and trailer are totaled.” says guitarist Joe Cocchi.

The band had set sail from their hometown in MA on their way to California to begin a month-long tour with SUICIDE SILENCE alongside label-mates FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY. Despite the near death experience and loss of gear, the band will push on and make the third show scheduled at El Corazon on Friday, February 20th in Seattle.

Cocchi continues, “All I can say is that we’re happy to be alive. I don’t know how, but none of us were injured. We’re on the road touring because this is all we know and love, and we want to continue. Help us get back on our feet by picking up a shirt. Thank you all for the continued support.”
