THIRD ION – Prog Metal outfit THIRD ION, featuring former members of THE DEVIN TOWNSEND BAND and INTO ETERNITY, has announced that the band’s new vocalist is none other than Dave Padden (ex-ANNIHILATOR)! Padden replaces departed vocalist Tyler Gilbert. The band issued the following statement about the lineup change:
“Sadly, after our last gigs, our singer Tyler informed us he was leaving the band. We loved having him, but his heart and passion lie with his own music. We wish him all the best and good luck with his future! Right away we wasted no time and got right on the search for a new singer. Dave’s demo blew us away, and not to mention he has an incredible amount of experience! We have been sitting on this news since the summer and after getting back from Vancouver this week, with a finished album worth of vocal tracks, I am absolutely psyched to announce Dave Padden as the singer for Third Ion!”
THIRD ION are currently recording the follow-up to 2015 Glasstone Records debut album 13/8bit. The sophomore effort will also be released on Glasstone. An audio clip of the band recording with Padden can be heard at this location or below:
13/8Bit is available on CD format through the label and in digital format on iTunes.Album artwork comes courtesy of Harley K at Necrographix. The album is streaming on Spotify HERE. 13/8Bit can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, Base, and other online retailers.
THIRD ION is the product of a mutual love of prog, video games and science. The debut album was written entirely in 13/8 time signature. 8-Bit musical renditions of every song was released as well, to pay homage to their 1980s classic gaming inspirations.

RICHARD FORTUS & DIZZY REED DEPART THE DEAD DAISIES
BAND RECORDING NEW ALBUM WITH MARTI FREDERIKSEN IN NASHVILLE FOR SPV RECORDS

From The Dead Daisies newsletter:
New York, NY (January 28th, 2016) – The Dead Daisies are proud to announce the addition of Doug Aldrich to the lineup as lead guitarist of the powerful music collective. Guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed will be stepping aside to be a part of a momentous project in 2016.
Aldrich is currently in Nashville with the Daisies working with producer Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Gavin Rossdale, Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry) on their follow-up to the album Revolución, released last year following the bands trip to Cuba, where the classic rock group were part of a cultural exchange as guests of the Cuban Ministry of Culture, Cuban Institute of Music and the Cuban Rock Agency. The still untitled album will be released globally on SPV Records later this year.
Aldrich joins bassist Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), guitarist David Lowy (MINK, Red Phoenix), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream) on vocals and Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol) on drums.
“I’m very, very happy to join my friends Marco, Brian, John and David in the next chapter of The Dead Daisies,” proclaims Aldrich. “I love the band and I’m looking forward to getting busy on the new record. This band is bringing back a raw, back to the bones sound that a lot of groups go for but The Dead Daisies are looking to nail. At this point in time, we are looking to have a kick ass Rock ‘n’ Roll album in the can by spring 2016.”
Fortus couldn’t be happier, saying: “When we started speaking about finding someone to replace me, the first suggestion I had was Doug Aldrich. It doesn’t get any better than Doug in my book. I am so happy that he is able and willing to step in and take over. I think that it will elevate the band to the next level. Thanks to everyone that has supported the Daisies over the last couple of years. Stay tuned to see what they come up with next. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!”
David Lowy, one of the original founders of The Dead Daisies said: “We’re really going to miss Richard and Dizzy. It’s been a privilege and a pleasure to write, record and perform with such talented world-class musicians and all-around great guys. I’ve personally learnt so much from both of them. We’re very excited to announce Doug Aldrich will be joining The Dead Daisies in the lead guitar role. Doug was Richard’s first pick to replace him. He’s a highly accomplished musician, performer and songwriter and we’re really looking forward to Doug joining us as the Dead Daisies adventure rolls on.”
Marco Mendoza couldn’t be more excited as well, of course: “Doug and I shared the stage for many years with Whitesnake and have been involved in many recording sessions and projects. He is a powerful guitar player and performer, can’t wait to bring him in on our next efforts in the studio and on the road. VIVA LA ROCK!”
Since exploding onto the scene in 2013, The Dead Daisies have taken the Classic Rock world by storm, releasing two albums to date & touring with the biggest names in rock including: ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Judas Priest, KISS and Def Leppard.
2015 was a banner year that saw the band release their 2nd album, make a historic visit to Cuba, join the line-up for some of the biggest European Rock Festivals including Download and Graspop, tour around the globe with Whitesnake and KISS as well as play a sold out triumphant headline show in Paris. The band then returned to the UK for the first time in two years to play a series of Sold Out club shows, including the special guest slot at Planet Rock Stock in Wales.
With the year having just started, The Dead Daisies are well underway to continue to rewrite the book on Classic Rock. With a killer new album in the works, massive touring being booked and fueled by their ever-growing fan base, the band is showing no signs of letting up.
Rock ‘n’ Roll is alive and well!!

About:
Conceived within the womb of Execration, Helleborus is the latest emanation of Jerred & Wyatt Houseman. Like the enigmatic and deadly winter flower from which the project takes its name, Helleborus pushes the exploration of traditional black metal into the uncharted territory of sensual duality and mysticism. Building on their professional experience with Execration and personal experiences through Akhenaten, the Houseman brothers sought a deeper expression of their experiential-driven musical style that audiences can connect with through a union of opposites.
“We’ve always had a vision for the type of Black Metal project Helleborus would be. We wanted to explore and deliver a darker and yet more romantic side of Black Metal. There is an unknown side of Metal that is masculine and powerful, yet sensual and respectful; controlled chaos.” Comments vocalist Wyatt Houseman.
Album Band Line Up features: Wyatt (vocals, lyrics) & Jerred Houseman (producer, all instruments)
Live Band Line Up features: Brent Boutte’ – Drums, Jerred Houseman – Guitar & leads, Wyatt Houseman – Voice, Ian Horenman – guitar & rhythms, Michael Hylands – Bass
JIMMY BAIN – Distinguished bassist Jimmy Bain passed away over this past weekend. Jimmy now reunites with his former legendary bandmates Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, Gary Moore and Phil Lynott; an unbelievable list of musical greats that are now performing on another heavenly plane. Born in Scotland, back on December 19th, 1947, Jimmy Bain was only 68 years old.
Jimmy Bain was a long-time member of DIO, being featured on several of DIO’s studio albums. Jimmy Bain also recorded and toured for Rainbow in the mid 70’s. He later co-founded in 1978 the British Rock supergroup: Wild Horses. Before his passing, Jimmy Bain was the bassist for Last In Line; an all-star band of past DIO musicians.
Metal Odyssey expresses condolences to the family, bandmates and friends of Jimmy Bain. Rest in peace, Jimmy Bain.
Witch Cross have parted company with drummer Lars Bjørnstad. The band wish him good luck with his new adventures and thank him for all the fun we have had over the last 4 years.
Witch Cross are delighted to welcome new drummer Jesper Haugaard who is also a member of Danish Rock band Crime Club.
Jesper will make his live debut with Witch Cross when they play at The Ultimate Revenge of Heavy Metal Festival in Finland on March 4th.
Jesper Haugaard
Bass player and founding member Jan ‘Little John’ says: “Jesper is the right person for Witch Cross and we look forward to gigging and recording with him in 2016.”
The band is currently working on their third album, set to be released later this year.
The fourth studio album of Fear of Domination is titled Atlas and it will be released on March 11. It is the darkest and heaviest masterpiece FoD has ever done.
The Finnish shock Industrial Metal band Fear of Domination will give a totally new definition to “spring break” by unleashing its fourth studio album Atlas,on March 11. The vocalist and the lyricist of the band Saku Solin describes Atlas as the darkest and the heaviest album the band has ever done.
Solin describes, that Atlas is about the moment, when all the light in the world has faded, and a human being is left to wander with his crushing burden.
“The question is, is the burden self-created, imagined or concrete. We’ve all had a bit of an emotion-filled year. I think we have efficiently packed primitive rage, desperation and misery here. It wasn’t a conscious decision. This is how we felt, and fuck, we did what had to be done.”
The string instruments are crunching lower than before and the composer and keyboardist of the band Lasse Raelahti has created a harmony of chaos and beauty with his synthesizer. Fans were given the first taste of blood, when the band released the music video single El Toro in the autumn.
The lyrics of the album are also more straight and brutal than before. The vocal producer Helena Haaparanta whipped everything out of the singer. Solin reveals from the album, that the rasp and growl vocals can change quickly to “freakishly annoyingly poppish” singing.
“We have always loved to create some contrast. Even though the lyrics are about the collapse of the mind and the world, suddenly there can be an opera-kind-of part or then it could be from E-Types disco song.”
The drums and the basses were recorded in D-studio, the guitars in the apartment of the lead guitarist and composer Johannes Niemi and the vocals in another studio in city of Kerava. The producers Alex Azzali and Nicholas Barker mixed and mastered the album in Italy. The cover art is created by Timo Kokko.
Fear of Domination is ready for the live-shows of the spring and is more insane than ever. The band is famous for their theatrical and half-crazy shows filled with energy. The year 2016 started with sold out MeriRock in January and will continue with three-day tour of MetalOrgy.
”We are looking forward to the gigs! We are able to use some new ideas and of course, to play the new songs. There are a couple of new ones, that I am sure will rock the hell out of the crowd”, Solin smiles.
Fear of Domination was found in 2006. The third album Distorted Delusions was published in 2014.
New Album Out ‘World In Decay’ Produced By Legendary Thrash Producer Michael Rosen
Seattle, WA thrashers FALLEN ANGELS have teamed up with Revolver Magazine for the stream of their latest single ‘Into The Abyss’ in support of their third studio release ‘World In Decay’ produced by Grammy award-winning Metal producer/engineer Michael Rosen (Forbidden, Testament, Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Tesla, Vicious Rumors).
‘World In Decay’ wasreleased on August 4th via their indie label Cyberdyne Records to follow 2010’s ‘Engines of Oppression’ and 2008 debut ‘Rise From Ashes’ released on Metal On Metal Records. To order ‘World In Decay’, please visit here.
Capturing the classic Thrash sound of the Big Four in their prime; early Metallica, Testament, Slayer, and Megadeth as well as lesser known cult heroes Exodus, Annihilator, Forbidden and Havok. FALLEN ANGELS is influenced by a wide range of 80’s thrash as well as classic metal from the 70’s and 80’s. The band combines these elements in a fresh, modern sounding album with the explosive riffs and solos that one might have expected to hear on the radio around 1989. FALLEN ANGELS is a band that Thrash fans and more classic Metal oriented fans can agree on because the music is catchy but also very aggressive.
Centipede is a heavy hitting Stoner Metal trio from Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 2011, they have released two well received EP’s and a 7” split. Sarnath is the Centipede’s debut full length album that resumes from where the band left off with their previous Brazen Bull EP. 8 songs of heavy Stoner Metal brings together the different sides of Centipede: slow stomping and fast pummeling. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, part of the record forms a story of a doomed city that also gives its name to the album.
In addition to a digital release there will be a small batch of CDs and with the record release a two-song 12″ vinyl single that comes with a download code for the whole album. The album is released March 4th 2016 by Inverse Records.

One of the UK’s premier purveyors of Metalcore, Bury Tomorrow visit hmv to perform live and sign copies of their new album ‘Earthbound’.
Bury Tomorrow release their eagerly anticipated new album ‘Earthbound’, the follow up to 2014’s UK rock chart number 1 record ‘Runes’. Frontman Dani Winter-Bates says of ‘Earthbound’, “To me, it feels like the distillation of everything we’ve ever wanted this band to be about. We wanted pace, we wanted heaviness, and for me, personally, I wanted to write a record which was the sonic embodiment of a circle pit. I think we’ve done that.” But while fans of the heavy stuff will find plenty to grasp onto here, it’s the now trademark interplay between Dani and guitarist/singer Jason Cameron which sets ‘Earthbound’ apart. “We’ve always wanted to be like one vocalist in two parts and I think we’ve achieved that here.” Says Dani.
Bury Tomorrow’s ethos has always been a threefold focus on unswerving passion, unrelenting hard work and remorselessly driving, slash ‘n’ burn riffola. They’ve come far from small to 1,000+ capacity venues, but their values remain the same. Dani explains: “To me nothing has changed. I still want to meet every kid who is there, get a picture if they want one and sign something if they want it signed. That’s just the kind of people we are – that’s just the kind of band we are.”
Sludge Metal band THE GLORIOUS REBELLION are happy to announce that they will be touring the East Coast of the USA this spring. “Jeff Bryan and I recorded the album at my home here in the Okanagan Valley, and we did the absolute majority of the writing in the pre-production and production stages. So much of the material had existed from several years ago, but was completely overhauled and reworked several times to end up in these tracks. We weren’t afraid to try things out and work over several revisions, or to take our hands off of a few of the songs that we felt very comfortable with after only the first revision. Jeff wrote the lyrics for the tracks in less than two months, and a lot of them were written and finalized in the vocal tracking stage, in front of the microphone.
We weren’t afraid to enable our music with production techniques. Many reviews have figured that we used samples or synthesizers in the songs, however the reality is that all of these droning noises, stutters, and otherwise ‘industrial’ sounds are actually either electric guitar or bass guitar, and abusing these instruments in front of their amplifiers with only two guitar effect pedals. The rest of these noises you hear are the interaction with the instrument and their environment.
We then delivered all of the tracks to Stuart McKillop of Rain City Recorders for mixing, and he blew us away. It didn’t take him long at all to catch onto what we were going for, and his consistency from one track to the next brought the tracks to the highest musical apex they could reach. Brad Boatright of Audiosiege handled the mastering, and he made certain that the product was of the outstanding final production quality for us. Brad has really yielded an outstanding quality for so many other abrasive sub-genres of metal and hardcore and he delivered that exact pinnacle of quality for us on this record as well.” – Bowen Matheson
In addition to the release of ‘The Haruspex’, GOMORRAH will be hosting CD release show in Vancouver, BC on February 27th @ 333 Clark with support from AngelMaker, Wormwitch, Atrous Leviathan and Vermin. Full event details can be found here.
About:
GOMORRAH, originally formed in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia as a Black Metal outfit in 2006, has now grown into an assaulting Death Metal band – ready to unleash their boundary-pushing extreme sound on their second full-length album. The forthcoming album ‘The Haruspex’ was released on January 15, 2016 on Canadian label Test Your Metal Records.
“We have stepped up the quality of everything: the pre production, writing, structuring, lyrics, performances, mix and master have all been improved. The combination of those improvements translates to a major difference between our previous recordings, and the single “A Disaster’s Nightmare” – as well as our forthcoming full-length ‘The Haruspex’. Improvement, through effort and time.” Comments guitarist Bowen Matheson.
Their name is associated with a historical reference to a city mentioned in the Book of Genesis, the Torah and the New Testament. The band’s music conveys a claustrophobic animosity, through punishing guitar work, high-speed drumming, and guttural vocals. The lyrics provide an accessible gateway into the stories told in each song.
GOMORRAH has shared the stage with Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Archspire, Ancients, Striker, Origin, Beyond Creation, King Parrot, Ninjaspy, KenMode, Bison BC, The Agonist, Fuck The Facts, The Order of Chaos, Slumlord, and Fall City Fall.

Quebec’s Chariots of The Gods alongside touring front man Chase Wilson from Ontario’s Darkness in Aurora were the first Canadian Metal band ever to join the fest in 2014.
“We have been working on this project for a while and we are really excited that it is finally happening! It’s a great opportunity for bands to experience touring outside of Canada and getting the chance to share the stage with international bands. Chase Wilson and I were part of the first Canadian Metal band to tour Cuba in 2014. The cultural immersion as well as the musical experience really makes it a Brutal Fest!” comments BBC organizer Rich O’Neil.
It’s a seven date tour with five to seven international bands, ten crew members, two bus drivers and one big bus on the road for two weeks across Cuba.
The selected Canadian band will share the stage with five or six other talented international bands every night and will be on the road during the day visiting every aspect of the Cuban culture.

Madison, Wisconsin Death Metallers CASKET ROBBERY will release its full-length debut album Evolution of Evil March 4 on Mortal Music. CASKET ROBBERY is an up and coming Death Metal band created by the minds of Cory Scheider (LUNA MORTIS, EPICUREAN, ECHOTERRA) and Dustin Foesch.
New Noise Magazine has premiered the official video for the album’s opening track, “Annibelle’s Hell,” which can be viewed at this location.
Metal evokes deep emotions from elation to introspection to revulsion On the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 2011 self-titled EP, CASKET ROBBERY runs the gamut, all the while burrowing its titanic sound deep into one’s psyche. The songs are at once pulverizing and memorable. Evolution of Evil is nothing short of pulse-pounding, unrelenting, and brutally catchy Death Metal.
Indeed, the undeniable grooves and hooks coupled with conceptual lyrics make CASKET ROBBERY the Death Metal band to watch in 2016. Take a deep breath. Your unrelenting nightmare has just begun. Highly recommended for fans of JUNGLE ROT, GOJIRA, and PANTERA.
Evolution of Evilpre-order packages are available through Bandcamp. The CD can also be ordered from Big Cartel.
CASKET ROBBERY have firmly established themselves as a brutal, heavy hitter in the live show realm by hitting the road hard after their first EP release. Last year they took the time to re-evaluate and plan a devastating debut album release for 2016. They quickly brought in Greg Mueller to fill the drum spot and they brought on their own Cory Scheider to track, engineer, and produce a majority of Evolution of Evil.
The track “Pray for Death” features a solo from John Laux (WARBRINGER) and “Undead Living Hell” features a guest speaking role by horror filmmaker Cory Udler. With the help of Chris Wisco (NOVEMBERS DOOM, JUNGLE ROT) to mix the album and Cody Ratley (VILLAINS, DARKE COMPLEX) to master it, this will truly be a must-have album for 2016.
Veteran L.A. Thrashers ANGER AS ART will release their new album Ad Mortem Festinamus March 11 on Old School Metal Records. On the highly anticipated follow-up to 2013 barnstormer Hubris, Inc., the quartet has done the improbable by creating a roaring Thrash Metal beast that doesn’t just raise the bar; it crushes it into dust.
A lyric video for album track “Aim for the Heart” can be absorbed into the bloodstream at this location or below:
Recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Ronald Sandoval at Rev Studios, Chino CA, Ad Mortem Festinamus (Latin translation: We Hurry into Death) is everything you’ve come to expect from ANGER AS ART…and more! Speeding recklessness, lacerating solos, and a shrapnel storm of riffs combine to make what will undoubtedly be considered one of 2016’s fiercest forays into Thrash Metal Armageddon.
Ad Mortem Festinamus is venomous, angry Thrash/Speed/Death Metal. If you feel that no one hears your voice and you’re pissed about it, then this is the album for you…because everyone is angry and ANGER is beautiful!

BAND BIO:
You may read a number of bios where bands will extol their virtues of being the next big thing, as important as Led Zeppelin and inventor of the wheel. ANGER AS ART doesn’t do that. They don’t need to.
To know what ANGER AS ART is, one can look at what they have been since 2004. A first-rate, old school Thrash Metal band – rooted in the history created by the members of the band. Take one look at their lineage – members of Abattoir, Evil Dead, Bloodlust, Hirax, Reverend, Bitch… and know where they are going.
Two World Tours, shows with Destruction, Overkill, Testament, Death Angel, Exodus, Saxon, Agent Steel, ex- Maiden vocalists Bayley and DiAnno, Tankard, Onslaught, Katatonia and many more.
The ‘Evilution’ of Evilyn Strange will be released on March 7th through Thirteen772 Music. Featuring five tracks, the EP precedes a new 11 track album to be released later in the year. As well as announcing the release date the band have also revealed the artwork (above).
Frontman Phillip Strange and guitarist Mikael Johannesson have written a hard rocking follow-up to their debut album Mourning Phoebe. Says Phillip: “We’re definitely rocking a lot more this time out even though it wasn’t what I would call a conscious decision. We sat down and threw all sorts of influences into the mix with no restrictions. Mike’s playing on ‘Evilution’ is phenomenal, he’s on fire!”
Each of the five songs brings a unique flavour to the table. Continues Phillip: “The opening track ‘Let It Rain’ deals with the inevitable bumps in the road that life throws at you. The message is simple, do what’s right for you and yours; don’t let anyone hold you back or put you down… believe in yourself! ‘Invisible Man’ is about the side to you that you lock away from the rest of the world, where internal battles can make or break you. It’s about fighting your demons and keeping your head above water. It’s something most of us struggle with but is rarely discussed openly.”
Track three ‘Storm Clouds’ is perhaps the heaviest that Evilyn Strange have ever sounded. Says Phillip, “Mike wrote this insane riff with a thunderous rhythm part. I got really excited by it and we ended up with ‘Storm Clouds’, a real headbanging anthem. The subject matter is about getting yourself in a spot of bother by not thinking things through. It’s that common trap of being so focussed on one thing that the important things pass you by. I’m sad to say it’s very autobiographical, ha, ha!”
“The last two tracks, ‘ Never’ and ‘Stay’ are possibly the most obvious links to ‘Mourning Phoebe’. ‘Never’ is about struggling against the odds and trying to achieve the seemingly impossible. It’s often on the eve or succeeding that you feel at your lowest… hang in there!”
Of the final track ‘Stay’, Phillip concludes, “Some situations are so painful it’s all too easy to bury your head in the sand or run away. Of course, you can’t run from reality so eventually it’s gonna bite you on the ass one way or the other. Sometimes it’s better to stand and fight, however painful that may be.”
Produced by the band, ‘Evilution’ will be available to pre-order, from January 27th, in the CD format and digitally via iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and other popular providers.
On behalf of Swedish Grindcore stalwarts GADGET, Relapse Records is excited to announce that The Great Destroyer, the band’s first full-length in a decade, will see worldwide release this March 4th, 2016.
With the announcement, Noisey has premiered two new tracks from the album; stream “Violent Hours (For A Veiled Awakening)” and the title track “The Great Destroyer” now at THIS LOCATION.
Though the band has largely flown under the radar in the general metal consciousness, Gavle, Sweden’s GADGET has roots that trace back to 1997. The band has always included influences from every other extreme genre that they’ve been fond of, like doom, sludge, hardcore punk, death metal, black metal and more, never letting genre boundaries stand in the way of their path of destruction. At the time of the band’s formation, GADGET existed as the grinding alter-ego of a Metalcore band whose members, including founder William Blackmon, simply switched instruments. Rikard Olsson and William teamed up in the winter of 1999/2000, and wrote the first GADGET demo as a duo.
GADGET then joined forces with Emil Englund to record a second demo, which was strong enough to grab the attention of Relapse Records, who signed the band for the release of their debut full-length Remote(2004), now featuring Fredrik Nygren. Remote was extensively well-received, as was its 2006 follow-up The Funeral March. After touring Europe twice and performing at dozens of festivals worldwide, including at Maryland Deathfest and Auditory Assault in the US, GADGET has proven itself to be a relentless Grindcore force live as well as on record.
Album cover artwork by Randy Ortiz.
A blistering high-speed assault of relentless grind, GADGET’s new album The Great Destroyer is a cohesive exercise in extremity that blends hints of Doom, Sludge and Death Metal with unadulterated, old-school Grindcore. The result is an album that is as memorable and infectious as it is pummeling and explosive. With The Great Destroyer, GADGET has released their most accomplished material to date!
The Great Destroyer will see release on CD, LP and Digital formats. Physical preorders are available now via Relapse HERE; digital pre-orders can be found at GADGET‘s Bandcamp page HERE.

After recently completing a North American tour with label-mates Allegaeon, plus some shows with Killswitch Engage just before the New Year, ACT OF DEFIANCE is ready to return to the road for another headlining trek!
Drummer Shawn Drover comments: “After just getting home from a great co-headlining tour with our good friends in Allegaeon, we are super stoked to get right back on the road for round two, with our 2016 North American tour. There were lots of cities that we were unable to play on our first go around, so this time we wanted to hit as many places as we can to keep promoting Birth And The Burial shortly after the holiday season. We really want to tour as much as possible for this record and bring 100% true Heavy Metal to as many people as possible. See you on the road!”
Following their January and February dates, ACT OF DEFIANCE will join Hatebreed in June for seven special shows. See below for all upcoming performances!
