Orbweaver - 2014 Winter Tour - promo flyer - 3290

Florida exploratory Death Metal behemoths, ORBWEAVER, recently waged audio Armageddon upon the US with a twenty-date run of live takeovers alongside fellow Sunshine State sludge slingers, Shroud Eater.

Relays guitar demoness, Sally Gates, from the van: “The ‘Wintour’ has been excellent so far. We’ve had a great response at all the shows and some very generous hospitality. A couple of highlights from the road including stopping in New Orleans in the lead up to Mardi Gras. We had a massive sci-fi-themed parade go right past the venue. There were even Dr. Who costumes and floats! We also had an archery challenge in Pensacola, New Zealand vs Colombia vs USA. Scores are still being debated…It’s great to be on the road with our good friends Shroud Eater, and the bonus of touring in the Winter is that the van still smells fresh! Thanks to everyone who’s come out to our shows so far, and hope to see the rest of you on the road!”

ORBWEAVER is currently touring in support of their cranium-crumbling Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon EP, released last Summer. Recorded at Miami’s Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed), on Strange Transmissions From The NeuralnomiconORBWEAVER travels far beyond conventional genre realms with a kaleidoscopic fusion of psychedelia, noise, and a distorted rendering of progressive death metal. Perpetually shape-shifting between these impulsive, trance-like elements, ORBWEAVER manifests interplanetary pandemonium reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled and violently elegiac chaos.

Orbweaver - 2013 - EP - Promo Cover Pic

The unsung gem continues to win the approval of adventures fans and critics alike. In a perfect 5/5 review The New Noise boasts, “ORBWEAVER have definitely blended the right mix of atmosphere with the right mix of experimental technical death metal to make a listen that is superbly solid and second to none. Whatever you want to call this stuff, I definitely hope to hear more ‘alien metal’ in the future.” Adds Metal Roos, “From the giant aliens on the EP sleeve, to the freak show, drug crazed blends of musicianship, this EP is an absolute ball-tearer…”

Sea of Tranquility, in a 4/5 rating, calls the head-scratcher of a record “big and oozing and unusual.” Quizzical listeners are encouraged to check out Palm Beach New Times’ recent interview series with Gates, guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro and bassist Jason Ledgard about their rigs, influences and obscure sonic handiwork HERE.

Baltimore-based audio/visual duo DARSOMBRA will proudly play a free show in their hometown this Saturday , August 24th, in full gratitude to their local scene for helping them recover a huge arsenal of stolen equipment!

Following a recent break-in burglary of the DARSOMBRA abode, with thieves getting away with seemingly irreplaceable guitars, computers, amps, visual equipment and more, the word made it to the proper parties in time and citizens/musicians/friends of the band helped track down and recover nearly all of the lost gear! In their recent band newsletter the members simply stated: “Watch out, world!!! This show is FREE because WE LOVE YOU and wanna say THANK YOU for all the love we received after our home was burglarized. So come on out and let us say it in person:” If you’re in the area, please come celebrate the duo celebrate and give thanks. The duo will perform at Windup Space and will be joined by friends Yeveto, Height, The Immortal Jellyfish and Carly Ptak “and the band documentary for The Human Host Movie.

DARSOMBRA Baltimore Gratitude Free Show:

8/24/2013 Windup Space – Baltimore, MD

DARSOMBRA is planning to tour the entire country on their most intense stateside tour ever in the Spring of 2014; fans are encouraged to contact the band if you want them to come to your town on this widespread trek. Stay tuned for more band updates over the coming months.

Following releases on At A Loss, Public Guilt, Underradar and others, DARSOMBRA signed with Exile On Mainstream for the release of Climax CommunityThe three tracks on the LP traversing forty-five minutes of the outfit’s unique, slow-building, organic transcendental rock. Brian Daniloski, a veteran of heavier, sludgier, grittier rock bands such as Meatjack and Trephine, controls the sound of DARSOMBRA, alternating between mammoth vocal swells and soundscapes and searing guitar riffs, leads, loops, and samples, combining elements of metal, psychedelic rock, experimental/drone, prog and krautrock. But there is more than just Daniloski’s sonic world at play here as video artist Ann Everton takes his work to the next level by bringing her DARSOMBRA-induced visions to the stage through her kinetic psychotropic video projections, creating a constantly shifting backdrop to Daniloski’s live performances.

Decibel Magazine is streaming Climax Community in its entirety at this location:

Orbweaver - 2013 - EP - Promo Cover Pic

Floridian psychedelic noise weavers, ORBWEAVER, recently dropped their brain-fraying Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon EP upon unsuspecting masses. Christened “twitchy, trippy tech death” by Invisible Oranges, the five-track Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon is a harrowing, multifaceted sound voyage through modulating realities recorded at Miami’s Pinecrust Studios with Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed/mastered with Brian Elliot at Mana Recording Studios (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed).

ORBWEAVER spiral’s through the realms of psychedelia, noise, and a warped interpretation of Death Metal. Shifting between these erratic, trance-like elements, the foursome produce cosmic pandemonium reminiscent of a Zappa-esque brand of controlled chaos. Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon was released earlier this month in alimited run of 100 cassette tapes via Primitive Violence Records:

Also available on CD direct through the band. The record is also available digitally via their official BandCamp page where you can twist your cranium to Strange Transmissions from the Neuralnomicon in full. Point your browser here:

ORBWEAVER was forged n 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro (ex-Hate Eternal, Gigan) and drummer Mike Pena. Together they recorded a self-titled, three-song demo. Shortly after, lead guitarist Sally Gates (ex-Gigan) and bassist Jason Ledgard joined the fold. Mike Pena parted ways with the group in 2013, and was replaced by drummer/percussionist Scott Spasiano.

The band will continue their stampede through the Sunshine State with another round of live takeovers. Additional shows to be announced in the coming weeks. Can’t make it to Florida? Peep the band’s new tripped out video for “Tragic Orbit: A Doomed Cosmic Star Ship” below:

Critical Praise:

“…off-the-wall structureless noise tech that borders on the type of irreverence built by instrumental group Behold The Arctopus with insane space atmospherics.” – HeavyBlogIsHeavy

“Their uniqueness is engaging, but the fortitude of it is what really grasps you. With how immense and bizarre their spacey effects are, you will find yourself dumbfounded by the intensity of it. ” – The Age Of Metal

“…deranged, psychedelic death metal hurdling through space at speeds that make The Millennium Falcon look like your little sister’s moped.” —

Melvins - 30th Anniversary Tour - promo flyer - 2013

April 23, 2013, LOS ANGELES – The Melvins celebrate their 30th anniversary with an extensive North American tour, kicking off on July 12 in Phoenix, Ariz.

“Has it really only been 30 years?” asked singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne. “Dang!  Thanks to everyone who’s been there for us!  It’s been an exciting trip and I probably should have listened and learned more. I apologize for anything I’ve ever done wrong and for anything I’m going to do wrong… Ha!”

Everybody Loves Sausages, a 13-track covers album including songs by Queen, Roxy Music and Venom, is the next release for the tricenerians. The album features guests Mark Arm, Jello Biafra, JG Thirlwell and Scott Kelly.  Spin is currently streaming the album, with commentary from Buzz, in its entirety (

The Washington-based band formed in 1983 by Montesano High School classmates Osborne, Matt Lukin and Mike Dillard.  The legendary outfit experienced its first line-up shift soon thereafter as Lukin and Dillard left the band with drummer Dale Crover stepping in, leading to one of rock music’s longest running partnerships.  In the intervening years the band, sometimes a trio and sometimes a quartet, has released over twenty studio albums, a dozen live records and innumerable singles and EPs.   In 2012 they embarked on the epic 51 States in 51 days tour and have recently added Melvins Lite, a new incarnation of the band featuring stand-up bassist Trevor Dunn, with the 2012 release of Freak Puke.

The Melvins launch a month-long European tour today in France with both Melvins Lite and the traditional Melvins line-up performing at various dates (full details below).  Other upcoming dates for the band include performances at Maryland Deathfest and Scion Rock Fest as well as trio of dates in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

VOIVOD – “Target Earth” Is Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

Posted in experimental metal, Heavy Metal, heavy metal albums, Metal, metal music, Music, news, progressive metal, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , on February 16, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Voivod - Target Earth - promo cover pic!

VOIVODTarget Earth, is the 13th studio album from Progressive/Thrash Metal legends VOIVOD. Guitarist Daniel Chewy Mongrain meritoriously steps in for the late, legendary (and irreplaceable) Denis “Piggy” D’Amour and fits in perfectly with the entire world of unique Metal sound that only VOIVOD delivers. Co-founder and bass guitarist Jean-Yves Thériault appears once again on this (thoroughly memorable) VOIVOD album; with Jean’s last VOIVOD studio album contribution being 1991’s Angel Rat.

When a band of such influential status like VOIVOD sticks to their (musical) roots while avoiding any unnecessary reinvention of their own Metal wheel, grand things can happen. Target Earth is such a “grand thing” and I am overjoyed by both this album and VOIVOD’s admirable perseverance. With 2013 being the 30th Anniversary of VOIVOD, old school fans should be drooling over Target Earth. New fans of this Canadian national Metal treasure are surely being recruited into the VOIVOD realm, thanks in part to this band’s tour stops and Progressive/Thrash relevancy.

I’ve always embraced the originality of VOIVOD, their blend of sound coupled with experimentation really has survived a bevy of “flavor of the month” genres over the decades; while their underground aura will never vanish, regardless of how popular they are in our Metal circles. As strange as this sounds, my 80’s VOIVOD collection of Metal has survived on none other than… cassettes. I’ll never part with them either, just as I’ll never part with Target Earth.

There’s always been that comfort food type of vibe I get from VOIVOD’s Metal and I’ll never be able to explain it away. Target Earth is not just a must album for 2013; it has earned my required status among Metal albums for 2013. Get into The VOD and thank me forever. Target Earth surely will be in my Top Twenty Metal Albums Of 2013 list; this new offering from VOIVOD is that beneficial to my Metal soul. Metal be thy name.

Album artwork created by Away.

VOIVOD Target Earth was released on January 22nd, 2013, via Century Media.

METAL NEWS: HYBRID – Deepsend Records Signs Spanish Experimentalists HYBRID

Posted in Death Metal, experimental metal, Extreme Metal, Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, rock music, rock music news with tags , , , , , , on January 22, 2013 by Metal Odyssey

Hybrid - promo group pic - 2013 - #1

Spanish Experimental Metallers HYBRID have signed with Deepsend Records to release their sophomore album Angst on April 30th in North America. The album was produced by founding member and drummer Chus Maestro, mixed at Sadman Studios (Wormed) and mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan) which feature their heavy and organic trademarked sound far from the non-credible modern super productions.

The follow-up to their acclaimed 2008 debut The 8th Plague, is a conceptual behemoth of Extreme Metal that drives the listener through a progressive and intricate songwriting enriched with arrangements and dynamics able to keep the audience aware all the time since the first listening.

Not unlike the game changer Planisphaerium by countrymen Wormed in 2003, HYBRID’s Angst could very well be the country’s next great output. A true hybrid of genres canvasing all aspects of extreme music into one-cohesive yet complex vortex of sound. The twisted extreme Death Metal of Wormed, the frenetic Math Metal of Dillinger Escape Plan combined with the Jazz elements of Candiria and Progressive Fusion of Cynic creates an impressive album that will appeal to fans of Death Metal, Grindcore and Progressive Metal.

Hybrid - Angst - promo cover pic!

ANGST – Track Listing:

1. Flesh Fusion Threshold

2. Enter The Void

3. Collapse To None

4. Self-Implosion

5. Cuando El Destino Nos Alcance

6. Angst-Ridden Inertia

7. Doomed To Failure

Take a listen below to Flesh Fusion Threshold – it’s an Extreme, Experimental Metal and Prog delicacy to the ears and senses! Metal be thy name!

HYBRID was born in 2004 with the intention of setting up an unorthodox extreme music project without self-imposed limits. The band recorded Beyond Undeniable Entropy in 2005 as a presentation, a six song debut MCD of avant-garde, eclectic and technical metal, released the next year by Deadwrong Records, which got a great response within the underground scene.

In the beginning of 2007 HYBRID entered Sadman Studio to record their first full length album The 8th Plague, mastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) and with artwork by Seldon Hunt (NEUROSIS, ISIS), which was released by London-based label Eyesofsound (BOSSK, YAKUZA) in August 2008.

The 8th Plague received an outstanding reception worldwide, as it was selected one of the best albums of the year in several specialized media.

After playing live with bands like TOOL, DEFTONES, NAPALM DEATH, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, MISERY INDEX, TEXTURES, MOHO, MACHETAZO and LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER between others, HYBRID went back to the studio in 2011 and recorded their sophomore album Angst, settling their unique approach to the genre while taking their sound one step further in terms of creative freedom.

With the new studio full-length from NEUROSIS set to erupt in late October, today the first track of the massive Honor Found In Decay to be made publicly available has been set loose via National Public Radio. The pyroclastic surge of “At The Well” coalesces the emotive and expansive elements of the act into a ten minute hymn, which helps reaffirm why NEUROSIS remain one of the most important heavy acts in existence.

Experience the slow burn of “At The Well” via NPR RIGHT HERE.

The fifth NEUROSIS album to be handled by engineering sorcerer Steve Albini, the hour-long Honor Found In Decay is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated albums of 2012. The seven tracks harnessed within this release capture the unit’s output at its most emotional and diverse yet, forming what the band members themselves are referring to as their pinnacle studio effort. NEUROSIS recently unveiled a visual trailer for the album using imagery shot and created by their own visual artist Josh Graham, and edited together by video architect Kenneth Thomas, who directed their 2007 Given To The Rising documentary. For the first time in the band’s history, intimate details of the handcrafted cover artwork have been made publicly available, allowing the installation to be viewed in motion, not just still photographs. View the trailer and more on Honor Found In Decay AT THIS LOCATION.

Set to see release through the NEUROSIS’ own Neurot Recordings, the CD and deluxe download versions of Honor Found In Decay will be unleashed in Germany October 26th, in the rest of Europe October 29th, and in North America on October 30th, with their previous label home Relapse Records handling the vinyl edition. Preorders will begin on October 15th via Neurot’s webstore HERE.
