LOCRIAN – Stream Entirety Of Newly Released Album “New Catastrophism”

Posted in ambient music, experimental music, Hard Rock, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , , , on August 13, 2022 by Metal Odyssey

The newly released LOCRIAN album New Catastrophism is now streaming on the Profound Lore Youtube channel. The album was released on August 12, 2022 on vinyl, CD and digital formats. Alongside New Catastrophism, LOCRIAN will also be releasing the Ghost Frontiers EP that will come as a bonus disc with the CD edition, a bonus digital download with the LP, and released through all digital channels on August 12th. The Ghost Frontiers EP features the two tracks “Witness The Collapse Of Geologic Time” and “The Chasm Of The Future”.

The band comments: “NEW CATASTROPHISM is the expression of years of observing disasters all around us and an opening to a new vision of a world changed beyond repair. We’re pleased to share this album with the world after such a long break and hope it serves as a soundtrack to the changes to come.”

New Catastrophism sees the iconic experimental music trio return back to their roots through four immersive tracks that signal towards the band’s signature expressions through dark ambient, experimental music, drone and post rock. Massive dystopian soundscapes through the intricate, layered, and spacious sound palette LOCRIAN unveil.

LOCRIAN is a prophetic voice of decline. From the band’s inception, it has comfortably straddled both the experimental and metal underground, weaving themes of apocalypse, urban decay, environmental destruction and birth/death/rebirth throughout its multifaceted and genre-defying releases. The trio formed in 2005 in Chicago and features Terence Hannum (synthesizers, vocals, tape loops), André Foisy (guitars, electronics), and Steven Hess (drums, electronics). Over their sixteen-year history, Locrian have released six studio albums, three collaborative albums, and numerous limited-edition releases.

New Catastrophism and Ghost Frontiers was recorded and mixed by J. Robbins, mastered by Brad Boatright, and features artwork by Trevor Paglen with design by Chimere Noire.

New Catastrophism Tracklist:

1. Mortichnia
2. The Glare Is Everywhere And Nowhere Our Shadow
3. Incomplete Map Of Voids
4. Cenotaph To The Final Glacier

SLASHER DAVE: Acid Witch Frontman To Release Fourth Solo Horror LP, Frights, Via 20 Buck Spin For Halloween; “Fulzzi” Premiered At Rue-Morgue Magazine

Posted in Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , on August 28, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

20 Buck Spin presents Frights, the new album by SLASHER DAVE, set for release this Halloween season. The album’s first single Fulzzi has been premiered at Rue-Morgue Magazine with the announcement of the LP.

SLASHER DAVE, the formidable frontman of Detroit’s Acid Witch, and 20 Buck Spin have united forces to bring a special treat for this year’s Halloween loot bag. On Frights, his fourth solo record, SLASHER DAVE introduces a heavier side to the instrumental synth album world. Terrifying industrial rhythms pulse through a stark electronic soundscape of analog synthesizers, pounding bass, distorted guitars, warped lo-fi horror samples and sedulous sound design. The entire album is written, recorded, mixed, and produced by SLASHER DAVE, and, as with his past solo releases, he handled all artwork and design as well.

Timed for release as All Hallow’s Eve approaches, SLASHER DAVE’s Frights is as creepy as it is entertaining. These twelve nightmares of deranged horror-synth are sure to send chills down the spine on Halloween but will fulfill any horror fiends’ lust for the strange and unusual year around.

With the debut of the track “Fulzzi” SLASHER DAVE delves, “‘Fulzzi’ started out as more of a Fabio Frizzi influenced track with the Mellotron and repeating kick drum pattern but morphed into a heavier track along the way. The samples are warped and glitchy. I don’t write with modular synth too much but there is a modular patch at the beginning, middle, end, and in the background of the heavier parts if you listen closely, just enough to add a little flavor and rawness to the track, and there’s a little bit of guitar and amp feedback I blended together to make that heavy pumping effect. A perfect introduction to Frights.”

Hear SLASHER DAVE’sFulzzi” at Rue-Morgue Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Frights will see release through 20 Buck Spin on LP, CD, and digital formats – including an exclusive glow-in-the-dark vinyl version available only through 20 Buck Spin mailorder – on October 26th. Watch for additional audio premieres, album preorders, and more to be issued over the weeks ahead.

Frights – Track Listing:

  1. Corpse Magician
  2. Frights
  3. Death Chamber
  4. In The Dark It Glows
  5. Shrieks And Creaks
  6. Fulzzi
  7. Blue Labyrinth (Fogmaze)
  8. Strobe Room
  9. Let The Creeps Inside
  10. Video 1 (Late Fees)
  11. Asylum Head

6:33 – Signs With Kaotoxin Records

Posted in avant-garde music, Music, music news, rock music with tags , , , , on September 25, 2014 by Metal Odyssey

633 - promo live band pic - 2014 - #8060

Are you ready to Rock? Are you ready to Roll? Are you ready for a total mindfuck? Kaotoxin Records has just inked a multi-album deal with France’s 6:33, which will result in the release of the band’s anticipated third full-length in early 2015.

6:33 spent most of 2013 on tour with the likes of Devin Townsend and Shaka Ponk, and still managed to squeeze out The Stench from the Swelling (A True Story), a collaborative full-length with WE ALL DIE (laughing)’s Arno Strobl (also of CinC, ex-Carnival In Coal). Said release saw the band blast into orbit, topping Season Of Mist’s best-seller charts upon release. With a deal with Kaotoxin in place, 6:33 are back with a deadly concept that could be summed up as the mutant child of Tim Burton raping Devin Townsend and Mr. Bungle on Halloween in a deserted asylum… FEAR!

Details about the upcoming album will be revealed soon. In the meantime, check out the official music video for “I Like It,” featuring 6:33 and Arno Strobl below:

6:33 are:

Rorschach – vocals

Niko – guitars

S.A.D. – bass

Howahkan Ituha – keys and machines

# – keys and machines

Darsombra - promo band pic - #60 - 2012

Eclectic, free-form duo DARSOMBRA regretfully announces that their Baltimore home was invaded this week, the doors kicked-in and ALL of the band’s gear and equipment stolen! The band is devastated, as everything they use to construct their incredibly unique audio/visual works has been lost in this act of human gluttony. The band is reaching out to the public for help in tracking down the perpetrators or at least the gear.

From Darsombra:

Please repost if you want to help. Thanks.”

Following releases on At A Loss, Public Guilt, Underradar and others, DARSOMBRA signed with Exile On Mainstream for the release of Climax Community. The three tracks on the LP traversing forty-five minutes of the outfit’s unique, slow-building, organic transcendental rock. Brian Daniloski, a veteran of heavier, sludgier, grittier rock bands such as Meatjack and Trephine, controls the sound of DARSOMBRA, alternating between mammoth vocal swells and soundscapes and searing guitar riffs, leads, loops, and samples, combining elements of metal, psychedelic rock, experimental/drone, prog and krautrock. But there is more than just Daniloski’s sonic world at play here as video artist Ann Everton takes his work to the next level by bringing her DARSOMBRA induced visions to the stage through her kinetic psychotropic video projections, creating a constantly shifting backdrop to Daniloski’s live performances.

Critical Praise:

“The larger movements of the songs rub against each other with tectonic weight, while subtler elements attack, defeat and consume. Strange and lovely, Climax Community speaks in the language of animal instinct.” – Exclaim!

“Much like a work of fine art, little to no commentary is given leaving the observer to interpret the work as they wish. By the same token, the listener may also choose to switch off the cerebral and absorb the music at the most basic level.” – Ghost Cult

“It’s a clever, dense and hypnotic release that demonstrates that there’s still plenty of exploration to be done in experimental and psychedelic music.” – OneMetal

Stone Says: This story is absolutely stunning, in a very sad way. This is one terrible act of unkindness, a downright act of human indecency towards our fellow-man. I truly hope DARSOMBRA locates any or all of their precious musical/visual equipment. I urge DARSOMBRA to start a Kickstarter campaign to recoup their means for their livelihood as well.

Lamont has also been confirmed to take part in Profound Lore’s SXSW Showcase on March 19th, showcasing his solo set alongside Slough Feg, KEN Mode, Grayceon, Castevet and Wolvhammer.

Released January 25th on At A Loss Recordings, the dense web formed by the seven tracks on Feral Songs For The Epic Decline has entangled many in its grasp, the album both meditative and malicious, as diverse and forward thinking as it is point-blank and unnerving.
