DIO – “Finding the Sacred Heart Live in Philly 1986” Releases On May 28th, Via Eagle Rock Entertainment

Finding The Sacred Heart – Live In Philly 1986 was recorded at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on 17 June 1986 during the second leg of the “Sacred Heart” tour, which featured new guitarist Craig Goldy. The show was issued in an edited form first on VHS and then DVD. Now for the first time the full concert is being released as a double CD in the original running order and with remastered sound. It’s an extraordinary live show with a giant animatronic dragon towering over the stage and spectacular lasers and pyrotechnics. Ronnie James Dio is in fine voice as ever and the band deliver a blistering live performance featuring tracks from their first three albums alongside Black Sabbath and Rainbow classics. This will be a must-have release for any Dio fan!

Finding The Sacred Heart – Live In Philly 1986 will also be released on DVD, Blu-ray and LP.

IRON MAIDEN “No Prayer For The Dying” From 1990 Is: Stone’s METAL Pick Of The Day!

IRON MAIDEN – Back on October 1st, 1990, the 8th studio album, No Prayer For The Dying, from the iconic IRON MAIDEN was released. I bought this highly underrated IRON MAIDEN release on cassette, somewhere around its release date. It took many years before I upgraded No Prayer For The Dying to CD. Upgrading to CD’s after years of cassette, vinyl and (gulp) 8-track purchases is costly, you know?

Before I go any further in celebrating this IRON MAIDEN classic, (yes, it’s a classic to me), I shall make this Metal declaration:

Over the decades, I’ve read many mixed reviews and comments about this IRON MAIDEN offering. What the hell gives? It’s not like this album can be compared to The Number Of The Beast, Powerslave or even the Paul Di’Anno era IRON MAIDEN. As the legendary Lenny Wolf of Kingdom Come would say: It is what it is.

I honestly feel No Prayer For The Dying is one ROCK SOLID slab of IRON MAIDEN, especially since this album was released back in 1990; when Heavy Metal was supposedly butchered by bands that came out of Seattle. Whatever. That’s for another Metal day and debate I guess.

My favorite song on this IRON MAIDEN album is: Holy Smoke. Holy shit, does this song actually… SMOKE! I’m telling anyone who wants to listen: this song revs me up like there’s no Metal tomorrow! Holy Smoke is 100% relentless with its guitar driven attack! Whoa. Plus, the infinitely legendary Bruce Dickinson sings his ass off on this song and the entire album for that matter. ‘Nuff said about that, my fellow Metal brethren.

No Prayer For The Dying has the omission of (the also legendary) guitarist Adrian Smith. That did (and still does) super suck to the maximum potential. I gather it’s a long story and who really gives a crap now? Adrian Smith has been back with IRON MAIDEN for years now; since Brave New World was released in 2000. For No Prayer For The Dying, the already Metal seasoned Janick Gers stepped into the guitar slot left vacant by Adrian Smith, joining guitar guru Dave Murray; and Janick Gers hasn’t left IRON MAIDEN since.

Released via Epic Records, No Prayer For The Dying has been certified Gold by the RIAA Gold & Platinum Program (for U.S. sales). Metal be thy name.

DEADLANDS – California Power Metal Band Debuts With Massacre Records Album

Evilution, the debut from Sacramento, California-based power metal act DEADLANDS is out now on Massacre Records. Boasting killer hooks, dynamic vocals, aggressive riffing, epic solos, catchy lyrics, driving drums and intricate bass lines that combine heavy, thrash, power, groove, and speed metal with shredding hard rock overtones, this band of seasoned performers delivers a heavy and energetic yet commercial musical approach in its songwriting and execution.

Formed in the summer of 2010 by lead vocalist Brian O’Connor (Consfearacy, ex-Vicious Rumors), lead guitarist Michael J. Gardner (The Council), lead guitarist Kevin Rohr (Spectre), bassist Steve “Dedbass” Northam and drummer Danny Sablan (HateFX, The Council), these longtime friends and experienced musicians had a clear vision of creating a powerful and unique Heavy Metal group. DORO – It was back in 1983 that a then unheard-of 19-year-old vocalist called Dorothee Pesch entered the stage with her band SNAKEBITE in Düsseldorf, Germany for the very first time. Just four years later the power woman made her big international break with her new combo WARLOCK, whose masterpiece “Triumph and Agony” – featuring the future worldwide hits “All We Are” and “Für Immer” – has been sold over 5 million times to date.

Today, after about 2.800 shows in more than 50 different countries on four continents, DORO has become a trademark for thrilling rock music and energetic live shows. Considering the extent of DORO’s international fame and popularity, the wild blonde ranks among the most successful female German singers of all times.

On April 15th, the big 30-years-anniversary tour kicked off in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Over the course of the following weeks, it’ll be continued in Russia, Scandinavia, South Europe, Germany, on various summer festivals (Wacken Open Air, Metalfest Loreley Germany among others) and eventually even in North and South America.

DORO comments: “Though it’ll be super-demanding once again, I’m looking forward a lot to the fans all over the world. We’ve received so many requests that we’ll even have to postpone the tour’s scheduled highlight and final show in my home town Düsseldorf from December 2013 to March 2014.” Further details and additional tour dates to be announced soon.

AVANTASIA – ENTER THE UNITED WORLD CHARTS!

POTENTIAL THREAT SF – To Release “Civilization Under Threat” On June 18th, Via Old School Metal Records

San Francisco Bay Area Thrash bands have long been known for their in-your-face approach to music, and POTENTIAL THREAT SF are no strangers to that tradition. Civilization Under Threat from Bay Area Thrash Metallers POTENTIAL THREAT SF will be released June 18th through Old School Metal Records.

Originally formed as a five-piece in 1986, they have shared the stage with everyone from Testament to Slayer to Cro-Mags to Nuclear Assault and just recently returned from touring with Death Angel. Their hard-working, no holds barred attitude carries over to their live shows. Though they put every ounce of grit and determination into their set, they still manage not to sound like angry old fucks.

Their mentality is simple – it’s just as easy for a band to get the audience involved in their show as it is to be pissed off and push them away. In short, they still have fun and show it on stage and to the fans, regardless of how long they’ve been playing or how many people are in the attendance.

Their newest offering, Civilization Under Threat (to be released by OSM Records), gives a nod to the old school by combining aggressive, commanding vocals with dual guitars and a thundering bottom end. Engineered and mastered by Juan Urteaga (Machine Head, Testament, Heathen) at Trident Studios has given the album a massively heavy quality without being over-produced.

The band consists of Mike Noble on lead vocals and lead/rhythm guitars, Daniel Sheridan on lead/rhythm guitars, Kenny Noble on drums and Damien Sisson (also in Death Angel) on bass.

On Oct 2 they will return to headline the Estadio Nacional, Santiago in Chile, where the Bluray/DVD of “En Vivo” was filmed in 2011. Chicago Modern Metal powerhouse TRIALS is set to make a triumphant return on May 1st with the release of their sophomore album, In the Shadow of Swords.

Coming off the heels of their 2011 debut, Witness to the Downfall, In the Shadow of Swords sees the band take their blend of forward-thinking Metal and muscular, Technical Thrash to the next level. Don’t mistake those words for the typical promotional hyperbole either. TRIALS has truly upped the ante where aggression, songwriting and sheer metallic power are concerned. Look no further than the album’s lead single, “Believers in Black,” for proof of the band’s progression. Stream the tune now:

In the Shadow of Swords is the first TRIALS recording to feature guitarist Ryan Bruchert (ex-HEWHOCORRUPTS), who joined the band last year. The album will be offered in digital and CD formats. The digital version includes a ripping cover of JUDAS PRIEST’s “Jawbreaker” as a bonus track, while the CD release will feature an additional TRIALS song, “Spirit Leaves” as a bonus. Recording took place at Wall 2 Wall Studios in Chicago and at TRIALS’ home studio with mixing and mastering courtesy of Lasse Lammert at LSD Studios in Lübeck, Germany. The album’s artwork was done by Chris Angelucci with Mark Sugar & Usha Rajbhandari.
