Critically acclaimed Doom Metal band SLOMATICS have returned with “Ancient Architects”, a new song taken from Totems which they are releasing with MAMMOTH WEED WIZARD BASTARD.

Pre-order the album here:

Slomatics commented “We are really excited to be releasing a record with MWWB. We are all huge fans of their Y Proffwyd Dwyll album, so to collaborate on a release together is something else. This record is the result of months of discussion and sharing ideas which all came together when we shared Skyhammer Studio. Sharing a release with MWWB made us want to up every part of our sound and hopefully we’ve achieved that with this record.

MWWB further commented “MWWB have been big fans of Slomatics for years. We have kind of obdurate tastes when it comes to heavy music so we like bands that fly their own flag and in our opinion Slomatics do just that. After chatting to Dave (Majury) it was pretty clear that both bands had a lot in common and when somebody brought up the idea of a collaboration it was a no brainer. We spent a lot of time discussing the content of this record and didn’t want to do just another split record. Although Split records are great for underground bands like us, we just wanted to make it ‘special’. Kind of an early 70s prog ethic to it. We all enjoyed the whole process and I’m not alone in thinking we’d like to do more collaborations in the future with more collaboration between the 2 bands. That’s if we can find the time.”

Track Listing:

A
1. (MWWB) The Master and His Emissary
2: (MWWB) Eagduru

B
1: (SLO) Ancient Architects
2: (SLO) Silver Ships Into The Future
3: (SLO) Master’s Descent

Brooklyn’s SANHEDRIN Sign With Cruz Del Sur Music

SANHEDRIN, one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from the Brooklyn music scene, has signed with Cruz Del Sur Music for the April 27 European/May 4 North American vinyl release of their debut full-length, A Funeral For The World.

The 2014 creation of guitarist Jeremy Sosville (BLACK ANVIL) and drummer Nathan Honor, SANHEDRIN was eventually joined by former AMBER ASYLUM and LOST GOAT bassist/vocalist Erica Stoltz, whose vocal and lyrical exploits quickly became the perfect complement to the pair’s fledgling compositions. The trio produced a self-titled demo in 2015, but it wasn’t until A Funeral For The World did the band come into their own. Boasting a familiar, but not derivative sound, SANHEDRIN‘s songwriting is rooted in the classics, translating into a fresh and honest take on rock and metal that easily crosses into doom, hard rock and stoner metal territory.

Live stints with ACID KING, CASTLE, CAULDRON, CRYPT SERMON, HELL FIRE, KHEMMIS, MAGIC CIRCLE and SATAN furthered honed SANHEDRIN‘s approach, ultimately leading to Cruz Del Sur Music offering the band a deal.

“The three of us in this band have a very clear and shared vision artistically, and we were not going to settle with anyone who would compromise that,” says Sosville. “Enrico [Leccese], the label owner at Cruz, has shown through the years that he is truly motivated by a passion for music, above all. You can see it in the quality of his roster and the records they release. Our dealings with him have been very genuine and positive, and we feel that this is a good partner for SANHEDRIN.

“Our goal as a band is to constantly be growing and reaching as many people as we can. Up until now, the band has been involved in every single aspect of this album’s release. From putting up the time and investment in recording and duplication, right down to packing orders, it’s been a true DIY operation. That said, that comes with limitations, especially in Europe where we have been so well-received but are so far away from. We feel that this new partnership with Cruz Del Sur is a great step in reaching more people with our music than we currently can on our own.”

The bustling, creative hotspot that is Brooklyn has provided plenty of inspiration to SANHEDRIN, a place that according to Sosville, helps channel their unique approach to music. “I think New York bands in general have a certain swagger and attitude unique to this area, and that comes across in the songwriting and the live show for us. We’re immersed in a very diverse culture where we are exposed to many types of musical sounds in our everyday life, and we absorb something from all of it even though our foundations are based in heavy metal and hard rock.”

While SANHEDRIN is partly the product of their environment, it is their combined talent and experience that is ultimately the defining element here. Parlaying a song-first format that proves the trio is greater than the sum of its parts, SANHEDRIN clearly benefit from its members already knowing the ins-and-outs of a successful band operation.

“Every band has its own recipe for what works for that group of individuals,” says Sosville. “Playing with other people or projects can offer a fresh perspective that can inform your own creative process in a new way. Whenever you create with different people, you will learn something new and continue to grow as an individual. I have certainly taken the things I have learned from BLACK ANVIL and used whatever knowledge I’ve acquired to help SANHEDRIN grow artistically and otherwise. The main goal is to forge a path where we are surrounded by people who inspire us and believe in what we are doing.”

Fresh off a west coast run, SANHEDRIN has its sights set on future stateside live intrusions and are already thinking about their next studio venture.

“We look forward to this record we’ve put our hearts into continuing to reach more people as 2018 moves along,” wraps Sosville. “We are also currently working on playing as many new places as we can. Currently, we are working with another band to do an east coast run here in America in June. We are also hopeful that we can get to Europe before this year ends, as there has been a great reaction to this record over there so far. Lastly, we are hard at work writing our next record, which we are aiming to release in the early part of 2019 on Cruz Del Sur. We are excited for what the future holds!”

ANGEROT – Debut Album ‘The Splendid Iniquity’ – Coming via Black Market Metal

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal music, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on February 23, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

New song now streaming at Decibel Magazine

South Dakota-based Death metallers, Angerot, rise from the ashes of Midwestern Metal to announce their crushing debut album, The Splendid Iniquity.

Featuring a cast of seasoned veterans who share roots that reach back to the very beginnings of the Death Metal Movement, Angerot are more than a nod to early Swedish Death Metal, they are pure Swede Death Worship. Recorded with Eddie G at Underground Studios, mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Grave, At the Gates) at Sunlight Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at AudioSeige, The Splendid Iniquity is a savage 40 minute sonic assault of 90’s Earache Records-era buzzsaw on your ear drums.

ANGEROT has tapped Decibel Magazine for the exclusive premiere of album track “Eternal Unrest.” Check it out at http://bit.ly/2ELg8hZ.

The album boasts guest appearances by some of the greatest names in Death Metal; LG Petrov (Entombed, Entombed AD, Firespawn), James Murphy (Death, Cancer, Disincarnate, Obituary, Testament ), making The Splendid Iniquity an absolute must listen for any fan of 90s Death Metal.

“We definitely do not feel this is a throwback band by any means. We all cut our teeth during the rise of this genre, and we are simply doing what comes naturally,” asserts vocalist/guitarist C.R. Petit. “We wanted to keep everything as on-point with the early 90’s as possible, that is why we elected to work with Tomas Skogsberg to mix our record. We could feel right away he knew exactly what we were trying to accomplish all the way around.”

The Splendid Iniquity is scheduled for release on Friday, April 13 through Black Market Metal Label.

WOLVHAMMER – Prepares To Release ‘The Monuments Of Ash & Bone’ Full-Length Via Blood Music In May

Chicago/Minneapolis-based quintet WOLVHAMMER has completed their fourth album, The Monuments Of Ash & Bone, for release in early May through Blood Music. The album’s artwork, track listing, and more has been revealed.

While things have seemed quiet for WOLVHAMMER in recent years, the band has been hard at work behind the scenes and are now set to strike. Four years since the Profound Lore release of Clawing Into Black Sun — which was supported by tours with the likes of Shining, 1349, Origin, Taake, Revenge, and Young And In The Way – 2018 looms heavy with the vengeful return of WOLVHAMMER. Brandishing a revamped lineup, the imminent release of their fourth full length album, The Monuments Of Ash & Bone, is on the horizon with new label partner, Blood Music.

With the current rapid rise in quality USBM, WOLVHAMMER races to the forefront with their upcoming fourth album which sees them merging the Black Metal tendencies of Enslaved with the mid-tempo sludge of Celtic Frost. Far removed from the methodical riffing and trudging pace of their previous record, and eschewing any frills, The Monuments Of Ash & Bone delivers nearly forty-two minutes of savagery through seven new songs. The album kicks the tempo into high gear and goes straight for the throat on tracks such as “Eternal Rotting Misery” and “Law Of The Rope.” No experimental bullshit, just the sound of rotten flesh and slow decay.

The Monuments Of Ash & Bone was recorded and mixed by Jarrett Pritchard (Goatwhore, Exhumed) at his own New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Florida, and mastered by Ken Sorceron (Abigail Williams, The Faceless) – both of whom provide additional guitar tracks to the album – and completed with artwork by Brian Sheehan.

Blood Music will release The Monuments Of Ash & Bone on CD, LP, and digital formats on May 4th. Stand by for audio premieres, preorder options, tour dates, and much more to be issued in the bleak days ahead.

The Monuments Of Ash & Bone – Track Listing:

  1. Eternal Rotting Misery
  2. Call Me Death
  3. Law Of The Rope
  4. Bathed In Moonblood And Wolflight
  5. The Failure King
  6. Dead Rat Rotting Raven
  7. Solace Eclipsed

Although there has been a four-year break between full lengths, the musical core of WOLVHAMMER has remained active, with guitarist Jeff Wilson writing and recording various projects, as well as being one half of the atmospheric Black Metal band Abigail Williams, and vocalist Adam Clemans being tapped as the new front man for Skeletonwitch. Adding John Porada (Terminate) on guitar in 2016, the new line up was filled out with Garry Naples (Novembers Doom) and Andrew Gerrity (Doomsday) before hitting the studio in the summer of 2017.

“I remember sitting with Glenn and Richie and talking about what we wanted this record to have in it,” says Halford to Revolver writer Steve Appleford. “And we wanted to make the heaviest, most classic-feeling record that we could possibly do for 2018, representing Priest as a band that’s been around for four decades, but at the same time, bring something fresh.”

The cover story is accompanied by the release of an extremely limited-edition Revolver x Judas Priest streetwear collection. The collection, which features a hoodie and long sleeve tee, is available exclusively via revolvermag.com (https://shop.revolvermag.com/collections/judas-priest-x-revolver-collaboration).

REVENGER EP ‘The New Mythology Vol. 1’ Out Now And Streaming!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , on February 19, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

New EP The New Mythology Vol. 1 from Vancouver-based groove thrashers REVENGER, has been unleashed and is streaming in its entirety! Get a fiery helping of Canadian Metal at revengermusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-new-mythology-vol-1

Make sure to check out the official video for opening track “Hex” at this location or below:

The New Mythology Vol.1, REVENGER‘s second studio release, is a five-song EP that expands on the band’s aggressive thrash style with tracks that are more technical, visceral and direct than debut album To The Wolves. Formed in 2012, the band introduces some key members that shape the sound and vibe of this EP, which is more calculated and driven than before. Heavy guitar rhythms punctuated by a consistent thrash pulse breaks only when the groove requires and marks REVENGER‘s particular style. The lyrics and gritty death vocals also bring out the rage and bitterness of the subject matter which, for this EP, is slightly more conceptual and inspired by comic books and how today’s mythology could become tomorrow’s dogma.

Revenger - promo group pic - 2018 - #33MO333ILMN2

REVENGER:

Andrew Bailey (Vocals)
JP Poulin (Bass)
Sean Parkinson (Guitars)
Julia Geaman (Drums)

With the intent of bringing together technical Thrash Metal and gritty groove riffs, Revenger was born in 2012 through the hands of guitarist Jean-Pierre Poulin and drummer Chris Warunki. The pair had written music together before and the combination of their styles and personalities was a natural experiment. In March 2014, Revenger debuted in Vancouver to warm reviews.

Their first independent album To the Wolves came out in September 2014 with Jordan Knute (lead guitar), Greg Cavanagh (vocals) and Darryl Greer (bass). In early 2015, Revenger’s lineup evolved to include Julia Geaman (drums) and Andrew Bailey (vocals). The following year was largely focused on woodshedding, playing local and regional shows/festivals alongside renowned bands such as Havok, Beyond Creation, Archspire, Tengger Cavalry, Stryker and Unleash the Archers.

2016 saw the introduction of Sean Parkinson on guitar (replacing Jordan Knute), and the interesting switch from guitar to bass for founder and main song writer JP Poulin. Ending the year with a 5-song EP written and ready to be recorded in early 2017, Revenger is ready to tour extensively and work tirelessly to get their music out to the world.

ROSS THE BOSS – New album “By Blood Sworn” Out On April 20th / World Tour Dates Announced!

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , , , , on February 17, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

Ross The Boss - By Blood Sworn - promo album cover pic - 2018 - #MO333ILMGM333

From AFM Records:

Guitarist Ross the Boss’ stature in the history of hard rock and heavy metal has been well-solidified for decades by this point – with a resume including some of the most influential and hardest-hitting bands of all-time, particularly both the Dictators and Manowar. And he continues to rock – as a member of the group DeathDealer, and also, as the leader of his own solo outfit, which has issued such stellar releases as ‘Hailstorm,’ ‘New Metal Leader’ and his latest offering, ‘By Blood Sworn’.

Joined by Marc Lopes on vocals and keys, Mike LePond on bass, and Lance Barnewold on drums for the sessions (Steve Bolognese will beat the skins on the album’s tour), ‘By Blood Sworn’ was produced by Dean Rispler, and will be released April 20th in Europe, via AFM Records.

“The main thing is that my band all live nearby me instead of in Germany,” explains Ross. “So, we were able to really work the tunes up. Mike LePond and I started going thru riffs and tunes in July, worked up the tunes, and started forming them. It was a very satisfying process.”

And as evidenced by such standout tracks as title track, “Among the Bones,” “Devil’s Day,” and a re-do of Manowar’s “Hail and Kill,” ‘By Blood Sworn’ is certainly as hard-hitting and heavy as Ross’ previous classics. “Actually, I know what direction the songwriting should go, and we go. As for my guitar playing, whatever the song needs, the songs get! The record is more old school, but with a fresh attack – the songs are not repetitive, and this record is also not a ‘drum machine recording’ like most these days.” Also featured is extremely eye-catching album cover artwork. “Marc and I had this concept for the cover art by Stan W. Decker. It was a knight kneeling after battle – holding his mighty sword and my eagle behind him.”

From: Nashville Publicity Group:

Friday, February 9, 2018 — Iconic rock band STRYPER will celebrate their 35th anniversary with the upcoming release of their 10th studio album, God Damn Evil, due April 20, 2018 from Frontiers Music SRL. Produced by frontman Michael Sweet, the band returns with their most powerful album to date, doubling down on the hard rock/heavy metal sound that earned them a worldwide fan base.

God Damn Evil is available now for pre-order at all major retailers including Amazon and iTunes. Limited edition pre-order offers are also available (see below).

Fans were initially introduced to the new album title and cover art via a social media post on February 5th, which quickly went viral causing a significant amount of conversation from STRYPER fans.

“We thought long and hard about this title,” says Michael in response to thousands of fan comments. “It was actually considered quite a few years ago and it just didn’t feel like the right time. Now, with all the evil in the world that we see around us on a daily basis, it made perfect sense. It’s a very bold statement yet a prayer asking God to damn/condemn evil. Nothing more, nothing less.”

God Damn Evil is the first release since the recent addition of bass player Perry Richardson, who joins original members Michael Sweet (vocals and guitar), Robert Sweet (drums) and Oz Fox (guitar). Perry is best known as a founding member of the multi-platinum band Firehouse.

STRYPER fans are getting their first look into the upcoming album with today’s release of the epic lyric video for the song, “Take It To The Cross.” View the Lyric video here: https://youtu.be/OWvdLnP8m3I or below:

“’Take It To The Cross’ is our answer to many fans asking us to do something a little heavier and even bordering on thrash,” says Michael. “The verses are heavy with a vocal and lyric delivery that’s bold and relevant yet the chorus kicks in with a fast, thrashy vibe. We brought in Matt Blanchard (Act of Defiance / Shadows Fall) to handle the vocal growl on the choruses and the end vamp. This song is 100% high octane.”

“Take It To The Cross” can be streamed at Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, etc. Those links available HERE: http://radi.al/GodDamnEvil.

Rocking since 1984, STRYPER is responsible for such classic ’80s metal albums as Soldiers Under Command, To Hell with the Devil and In God We Trust. In fact, STRYPER is the first band to ever have two songs in MTV’s Top 10 simultaneously with their hits “Free” and “Honestly.” After a sabbatical for much of the 1990’s, STRYPER returned strong in the early 21st century. To date, the Dove Award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated band has sold over 10 million records worldwide.

God Damn Evil is the follow-up to STRYPER’s ninth studio album, Fallen (Frontiers Music SRL), which released in 2015 and debuted at the top of the Billboard charts. 2016’s 30th Anniversary To Hell With The Devil Tour saw record crowds and featured the band’s largest sound and lighting production in nearly two decades.

STRYPER will return to the road this year, kicking off the God Damn Evil World Tour at the at the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan, Italy on April 28th. Tour dates will be posted as confirmed at http://www.stryper.com/Tour/tour.html.

“We all see and hear the darkness that surrounds us in our society but with faith and love, we’ll always have hope,” says Michael. “That’s what STRYPER is all about – powerful music and a message that builds foundations, not walls. We couldn’t be more excited about God Damn Evil as it showcases our undying love for what we do and why we do it.

BONFIRE – To Release New Album “Temple Of Lies” On April 13th, via AFM Records!

Bonfire - Temple Of Lies - promo cover pic - 2018 - #33MO99

From AFM Records:

Few German rock acts can look back at as long and successful a career as BONFIRE. Counting their predecessor – a group called Cacumen, which was also founded by Hans Ziller and featured more or less the same line-up – the band has been around since 1972, has operated under its current moniker since 1986 and released more than two dozen albums. During the most successful phase of their career, Bonfire counted – alongside the Scorpions and Accept – among Germany’s three internationally most acclaimed acts, celebrating major success all over Europe and worldwide. Bonfire’s trademarks are and have always been deeply melodic hard rock songs, driven by captivating guitars, grooving rhythms and haunting vocal melodies. All the features that came together so perfectly on their most popular releases Fireworks (1987), Point Blank (1989) and Branded (2011) are present on their current release Temple Of Lies.

Thanks to their new vocalist Alexx Stahl, who joined the fold two years ago, and a first-rate line-up on all instruments, the band’s creativity explodes on Temple Of Lies and is bound to wow a younger generation of rock music fans, too.

“We were extremely lucky to find Alexx,” offers guitarist Hans Ziller in explanation of the group’s current creative and musical high. “He’s a team player who looks after his voice in a totally professional way and treats it like the important tool that it is. He doesn’t smoke and prepares optimally for every show. In addition, Alexx is a really nice guy. Being at the helm of the band, I couldn’t be happier to have him in the band.” Ziller is just as enthusiastic about his rhythm section consisting of bassist Ronnie Parkes and drummer Tim Breideband (“they seem to have reinvented the groove”), and of course guitarist Frank Pané (“one of the most awesome musicians I’ve ever worked with”). Ziller: “With this line-up, we’ll be able to increase the hardness level of our material whenever we feel like it. Numbers such as ‘Temple Of Lies’ and ‘Stand Or Fall’ wouldn’t have been possible with previous line-ups.”

Bonfire - promo group pic - 2018 - #333MO999

It’s not only the occasionally tougher pace that impresses on Temple Of Lies (produced by Hans Ziller at the Flatliners Recording Studios in Ingolstadt) from the first to the very last note, but also the album’s diverse high-quality songwriting in general. Driving midtempo tracks (‘Feed The Fire’, ‘On The Wings Of An Angel’, ‘Fly Away’, ‘Crazy Over You’) support the aforementioned uptempo rock numbers and are expertly broken up by the ballad ‘Comin` Home’ and ‘I Help You Hate Me’, which surprises with a reggae groove verse. Temple Of Lies kicks off with the intro ‘In The Beginning’, featuring American voice actor David Michael Williamson (Lord of the Rings). So the fun factor is back in the Bonfire camp, manifesting itself also in the 20-minute bonus track ‘Friedensreich II. – The Return Of The Zünsler Into The T.O.L.’, a humorous sound collage which frequently brings to mind Frank Zappa. The programmatic album title and expressive cover artwork prove that Ziller & Co also live up to their responsibility as socially aware musicians, taking to task “the lies of our world and politicians”. No doubt about it: Temple Of Lies sees Bonfire live up not only to their own history.

“Temple Of Lies” – Tracklisting:

01. In The Beginning
02. Temple Of Lies
03. On The Wings Of An Angel
04. Feed The Fire (Like The Bonfire)
05. Stand Or Fall

SACRAL RAGE – Preparing Highly Anticipated Sophomore Album for Release On Cruz Del Sur Music

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, music news, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on February 3, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

Sacral Rage - promo band pic - 2018 - #333MO73733

Promising Greek speedsters SACRAL RAGE have started work on the follow-up to 2015’s Illusions in Infinite Void debut full-length for a 2018 release via Cruz Del Sur Music. The as-yet-titled album will be produced by SACRAL RAGE, with drum and guitar recordings taking place in Ignite Studios in Athens. The band will track vocals and bass in White Socks Studios and will have the album mixed and mastered by Stamos Koliousis at an undisclosed location in Norway.

Comments guitarist Marios: “The music retains the classic SACRAL mixture of tech madness/aggressiveness with the addition of more complex structures at times, along with a darker vibe and more layered sounds than the previous one. In terms of composition and arranging of the songs, the way we worked hasn’t changed since our last work. The only difference was that we had to overcome and re-invent aspects of ourselves in order to present something different and fresh from our previous works.”

SACRAL RAGE‘s sound – a blend of tech thrash in the vein of CORONER mixed with the sci-fi aura of VOIVOD and the melodic class of HELSTAR – has taken on a more aggressive form according to Marios, even finding the band going down even darker paths than before. “It’s like we expanded every aspect of ‘Illusions…’ with this one. The songs came out bigger than expected without losing the character and the sound of the band. Lyrically, we present stories of the near (or not) future and visions of a traveler that wanders through time.”

The positive reception to Illusions… helped spread the SACRAL RAGE name throughout Europe and included several key festival stops along the way. Aware of the expectations for their sophomore album, Marios feels like it’s time for SACRAL RAGE to assert their place in the heavy metal underground.

“With our second release, we aim to make the next step for the band and participate in bigger festivals, as we believe that our live performance is one of our strong points,” he closes. “We also hope that our music will be unleashed on much more people than before.”

PULVER To Release Self-Titled 7-Inch Debut Via Gates Of Hell Records

Posted in Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Metal, Music, news, rock music, world news with tags , , , , on February 1, 2018 by Metal Odyssey

PULVER - promo band pic - 2018 - #222MO333ILMN

German Classic Metal hybrid PULVER will release their self-titled debut 7-inch on April 20 via Gates Of Hell Records, a sub-label of Cruz Del Sur Music.

Recorded by Heiner Kunkel at Dreiklang Audio in the band’s hometown of Aschaffenburg, the 7-inch was mixed at Big Snuff Studio in Berlin by Richard Behrens. The recording took place roughly a year after PULVER‘s 2016 formation, showcasing a band adept at harnessing the rawness of NWOBHM with the melody and power of traditional and progressive metal.

“Our origin is pretty basic,” notes vocalist David Fröhlich. “There isn’t really a huge hard rock/heavy metal scene in a small city like ours, so everyone pretty much knew each other anyway. One day in late 2016, we decided to start jamming and pretty soon noticed that everything fits together quite well, so we continued until the point where we found the songs presentable enough to release a demo and here we are now!”

PULVER plans on following up the release of the 7-inch with the recording of their first proper full-length, along with other activities, according to Fröhlich. “We’re gonna play a lot of shows, meet new people on the road and have some fun!”

For fans of MOTORHEAD, FIST, IRON MAIDEN and early NWOBHM.

Awesome cover artwork by Karmazid!

Side A:

  1. Howl
