We’re delighted to announce the signing of REAPER from Germany!
The journey of REAPER began back in 1984 when Peter “Onkel Eff” Fickert (drums), Andreas Maus (guitar), Robert Kölling (guitar) und Matthias “Mäfju” Kraft (bass) decided to make music together. Within the first months, Robert Kölling was replaced by Daniel Zimmermann and singer Thomas Bennecke joined the band’s ranks.
Soon after the band’s formation, the band started to release first demos as well as the debut album “Beyond All Time” in 1990 via Bellaphon. The studio albums “The Years Within” (1992 via Mausoleum) and “Gardens Of Seth” (2009 via STF Records) followed, as well as other demos and CD Compilations.
The band’s line-up changed in the following years, currently featuring Daniel Zimmermann (lead vocals, guitar), Matthias Kraft (bass, backing vocals), Benni Lodewig (guitar, backing vocals) and Jan Breede (drums).
In the past 30 years, REAPER played a lot of gigs and were part of festivals such as the Ragnarock Open Air, Power Of Metal Festival, Masters Of Cassel and Swordbrothers Festival.
REAPER’s upcoming 4th full-length album “An Atheist Monument” is set to be released in late July via Massacre Records!
The band originally began in 2009 in Missouri under the name The Harrowing. Formed by Colton Deem and brothers Cody and Mitch Pegg, they then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and changed their name to Gomorrah in 2013.
After several refinements to their sound, the band have now unleashed their debut “To the Depths”. Since releasing the EP, the band has increased momentum by sharing the stage with metal legends such as Destruction, Abigail Williams, Macabre and Krisiun. Combining elements of death, thrash and heavy metal, Gomorrah play music with a nod to metal both past and present.
“To the Depths” track listing:
1. To the Depths
2. Tribulations
3. Tempest
4. Colossus
5. Chapel of Stilled Voices
6. Beneath the Falling Sun
John A.B.C. Smith – Vocals, Lead/Rhythm Guitars, Bass, Keys
Don Amiro – Lead/Rhythm Guitars, Vocals
Ian O’Sullivan – Lead/Rhythm Guitars, Vocals
Mark Cross – Drums

From Massacre Records:
Here’s an introduction to the band:
Former Gallow’s Pole singer and At Vance/Scanner bassist John A.B.C. Smith formed GOD’S ARMY A.D. in 2004 – back then under the name God’s Army. The band’s name was recently changed to GOD’S ARMY A.D. due to legal reasons.
Two of his long-time friends and both guitarists, Ian O’Sullivan and Don Amiro, soon joined forces with him and they started writing their first songs in late 2004. In May 2005, John met drummer Mark Cross and their musical interests and combined ideas were the final push for GOD’S ARMY A.D.
In 2006 GOD’S ARMY A.D. played some very successful concerts indeed, not only supporting acts like Paul Di’Anno and Mystic Prophecy, but also selling out their own shows. The band quickly won the hearts of metalheads, building up a true fan base – not only in Germany – over a very short period of time. In 2007, whilst recording their first record, the unexpected happened: Mark Cross was offered to play for the band Firewind and he took it.
The exit of Mark from the band didn’t mean the end of it but another twist of fate: Lead singer John A.B.C. Smith had a severe car accident. This in turn threw him out of the game for a while and only in 2012 he celebrated his “coming back to life”.
Without knowing where the path would lead, John A.B.C. Smith re-recorded all of the old GOD’S ARMY A.D. songs again as some kind of art therapy and they took on a new form. It made him realize that now was the right time: GODS ARMY A.D. is back!
You can already watch the video clip for the new song “Gods Must Be Crazy”, directed by Eddie Van Dahl, below:
The self-titled debut album by GOD’s ARMY A.D. is set to be released on May 23, 2014 via Massacre Records!
Long-running Brooklyn sludge rock cooperative, HULL, recently wrapped up a two-week run of live takeovers through Europe. Joined by Boston doom bringers, Elder, the journey commenced in Tilburg, where the band systematically leveled the stage at Roadburn with their vibrating walls of hypnotic dirge.
Recounted bassist/vocalist Sean Bryant Dunn from their final show in London: “Our journey began in Tilburg for the Roadburn festival where we had the opportunity to play and hang out with some amazing friends, old and new. The following two weeks we burned many a mile with our new brothers Elder, reducing stages to rubble. There will not be a moment without the thought of touring with these boys. With that, I’ll say thanks to everyone that helped us out, put us up, fed us and for wrecking their necks at the show. Europe truly understands how to appreciate and respect all artists. We will be back as soon as humanly possible!”
Check out live footage from the tour, below:
HULL recently released a brand “new” hymn entitled, Swamp Goat. Originally tracked in 2007, “Swamp Goat” laid dormant while the band penned material for their critically lauded Sole Lord full-length. After a grueling tour schedule and follow-up release, 2011’s sprawling Beyond The LightlessSky full-length, “Swamp Goat” was lost in the caves and forgotten… until now.
The tune features on the band’s Legend Of The Swamp Goatseven-inch unleashed in February via HULL’s own Iron Orchestra Works imprint and Midnight Collective. Bearing the stunning artwork of Nathan Overstrom, the single appears on Side A while an etching occupies Side B. Legend Of The Swamp Goat comes in limited pink, blue, green, and white vinyl.
HULL will be playing a hometown return show next month at Saint Vitus where copies of the 7″ can be purchased direct from the band.

HULL Live 2014:
5/17/2014 Saint Vitus Bar – Brooklyn, NY w/ Bloody Hammers [info]
HULL materializes as a massive entity, storming stages and immersing their audiences in a blanket of grandiose down-tuned compositions. A shifting fault line of decibel heavy harmony, this collective force converges in a collision of thrash, doom, classic rock, and formal orchestral works. HULL commands their listeners through each riff with incredible precision, as a seafarer guides vessels through ominous waters.
Submerged in cosmic soundscapes, HULL challenges the mind with flowing, off-time fugues and powerful, dynamic movements. Brace yourself for an onslaught of eruptive force as a new world of music is formed in the deafening clap of thunder that is HULL.

“True to form, this ‘new’ tune bombards the listener from every angle with clever arrangements and bluesy bluster. ‘Swamp Goat’ is a hazy, hellbent ride through thickets of distortion and syrupy sludge.” – Noisey on “Swamp Goat”
The new EDGUY album Space Police – Defenders Of The Crown enters the official German album charts at #2, bagging this week’s highest new entry in the album charts. This is the best chart position of an EDGUY album ever.
Tobias Sammet has sent us the following statement: “The fans have spoken! On behalf of my buddies Jens, Dirk, Eggi & Felix: Thank you all so much! We have been quite vocal about how much we love this album but it is an amazing feeling to learn that you agree. We wanna thank the whole world of Rock & Metal for the great reactions. It took us 22 years into our career to celebrate the biggest success of our band history? Seriously? That’s amazing! We will always be thankful and we will work our asses off to reward you with a big show on the world tour in autumn. See you there and cheerzz, the ‘Love Tyger’ 😉 ”
Space Police – Defenders Of The Crown also entered the UK Rock Charts on #1. For the first time EDGUY have also entered the long play album charts in the UK as well, going in on #82.
EDGUY also reached their highest chart entries in Czech Republic (#8), Finland (#12), Switzerland (#13) and Austria (#27), and made another Top 30 entry in Sweden (#28).
Portugal’s Annihilation have unleashed upon the world their single for the song “The Great Cycle”. Available as a digital download on their Bandcamp, “The Great Cycle” is a taste of what you will hear on their forthcoming EP “The Undivided”. You can hear and purchase the track at this location.
In addition to releasing the song as a digital download, the band has also premiered the song as a lyric video on Metalrecusants.com, which can be viewed here.
After a two-year hiatus, Ohio Technical Grinding Death Metal peddlers, LOCUSTA, will be embarking on a live takeover through the East Coast this Spring! Slated to commence on May 13th in Raleigh, North Caroline, LOCUSTA will rape faces through Columbia, Knoxville, Columbus, Washington DC, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Providence, Portland, Philadelphia, Harrisonburg and Richmond with additional incursions to be announced in the coming weeks. The band will be joined by drummer Alex Tomlin (Battlemaster, Arsis, Withered et al).
LOCUSTA is currently putting the finishing touches on their as-yet-untitled full-length tentatively scheduled to drop later this year. In the meantime, ravaging preview track, “Contaminant Remains,” will appear on the band’s forthcoming, four-track Dendromorphosis EP which also includes a molten rendition of Death’s “See Through Dreams,” and artwork by renowned designer Lucas Ruggieri (BlackTusk, Kylesa, Ghoul, cough et al). Dendromorphosis will be available for purchase at all upcoming tour dates.
Comments the band of their forthcoming live offensive: “We’re looking forward to hitting the road again after such an agonizingly long break from touring and to what we’re anticipating will be some of the best shows we’ve ever played, both in respect to the caliber of the bands we’re billed with and the fact that our live sets sound tighter than they ever have before. Our set lists will mostly contain songs from the new album, including the first track we’ve ever written that extends past the nine-minute mark, which is easily the darkest and most epic piece of music we’ve written so far. There is more grinding technicality than before, but the songs are also much more mature from a songwriting point of view than what you hear on our first album. We’re excited to be sharing this time in the band with all of our new and old friends on the road, but…no survivors.”
Formed in the fall of 2006, LOCUSTA take their name from a female chemist from Ancient Rome regarded as the first documented serial killer. LOCUSTA released their debut full-length upon an unsuspecting underground in 2010 which is available for download/purchase via their official bandcamp page HERE.
Critical Praise:
“I got dinner at the bar while LOCUSTA played their set. Melodic, technical death metal in the vein of Spawn Of Possession or Decrepit Birth, the band brought the riffage with a vengeance. Health notice: The surgeon general has advised that discreetly headbanging with a mouthful of food is a choking hazard. But totally worth it.” – NoCleanSinging.com
“LOCUSTA. Why isn’t this band huge? Serious death metal from Columbus shredded bar and house shows alike and smote their victims with ease.” – The Athens News
“LOCUSTA is one of the best underground metal bands out there right now; seriously one of the highest underground-to-quality-music ratios possible…Totally real-deal, bad-ass performers, worth the money and time spent x1000.” – Day After Day DC
KYNG – The power trio of KYNG are from Los Angeles, California and their sophomore album, Burn The Serum, was released on April 15th. KYNG plays eyeball popping Heavy Rock, embedded with muscular Stoner and Classic Rock stylings for good damn measure. KYNG has tapped into such a prolific hard and heavy sound that they’ve rubbed elbows within the Metal Universe with ease.
As for the album, Burn The Serum has proven to be one of the very, very best investments I’ve made all year with my music purchases. KYNG comes across musically, as if they’ve booted the status quo of Hard Rock into bloody submission, never to rear its boring and carbon copied head ever again. Whoa. This power trio can play and if you don’t believe or agree with me, then your grandma’s dusty ABBA vinyl collection and her old Readers Digests are calling for you.
The lead single, Electric Halo, from Burn The Serum, showcases soaring and melodic vocals from guitarist/vocalist Eddie Veliz which reminds me of a time when singers really did sound like superheroes; and all I wanted to do was grow up to be that super dude I’m hearing on the 45 rpm. I harken back to the day, when I spinned Bad Company’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasyfor hours on end. Oops… back to 2014.
KYNG delivers all things powerful on Burn The Serum and if this sophomore release is any indication, to me, the Heavy Rock universe is the limit for this band. This power trio was born to be KYNG. ‘Nuff said and… Metal be thy name. – Stone
“Straight from the depths of the American Midwest, Indiana’s Lysura combines black metal a la Emperor and Dissection with old-school doom and even bluesy melodies. If you are tired of all that symphonic black metal crap out there and looking for something interesting, then look no further.” –Metalrecusants.
Indiana’s Lysura will officially kick off their 2014 US tour this Friday, May 2nd in Dayton,OH.
Spanning just under 2 weeks, the band had the following to say about the trek:
“We are all insanely excited about the upcoming string of shows. We are looking forward to returning to some old haunts as well as playing a handful of cities for the first time. Those new to the band can expect a mesmerizing live performance that will leave spectators locked in stimulatory equilibrium. Also, be sure to check out our brothers in Unkured, who will be picking up the second leg of the tour with us. Their trashy blend of death metal will melt your faces as well as your minds! See you on the road!”

MAZE OF TERROR – Peruvian Thrash Metallers, Maze Of Terror, are a band that you MUST know about and bang thy head to. It’s that simple and end of Metal story. Seriously. These dudes have single-handedly put Peru on the Thrash Metal map, with their retro-style of in-your-face, raw and severely contagious Thrash.
SKULLCRUSHER is the name of this band’s EP and ALL 5 songs are skull crushing (no pun intended). This is Thrash that old-schoolers yearn for and Maze Of Terror are well-studied in The Roots Of Thrash Metal 101. I had no idea days ago that Maze Of Terror existed and now I’m elated to listen to their brain assaulting Thrash at will! ALL kick-ass Metal adjectives come into play here, with this EP from Maze Of Terror: scorching, fierce, blistering, fast, eye-popping, true, et cetera. If the iconic Slayer (or any Thrash legends) are to play Peru, Maze Of Terror should always be their support band. Hell yes.
This Thrash power-trio has a quantum amount of Metal talent; LEVIATHAN on bass & vocals, CRIMINAL MIND on guitars and HAMMER on drums are a true thrill to listen to and I couldn’t be more Metal honest than that. Metal be thy name. – Stone
SKULLCRUSHER EP – Track Listing:Hatred and Repression, Damned to Eternal Pyre, Lord of Destruction, Rivals, Run with Death

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the Release of a 2CD career retrospective package from Swedish ’80s Heavy Metal group ZONE ZERO on July 8th.
Comprised of live recordings, rehearsal tracks and studio cuts – including three more recent songs recorded in 2008 – this collection captures the magic of a band heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but somehow fell through the cracks of that burgeoning scene. Shadow Kingdom Records now seeks to turn the unknown into the known with The Lost Legacy.
Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogran comments on the package:
“It would be a rare case if anyone were even aware of Zone Zero as they only put out one Single and a few demo tapes in the early 80s before disbanding. In the land of early Swedish Heavy Metal, the very first and most important band was without question Heavy Load, who started in the late 70s. With that said, Zone Zero does have a very strong Heavy Load influence and were also influenced by Judas Priest and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. There were quite a few bands that popped up in the early 80’s in Europe that could have easily been a part of the N.W.O.B.H.M. but they weren’t because that period of time only included England. This package includes their entire career, which started in 1980 and includes the band re-uniting for 3 brand new songs that were recorded in 2008.”
Stream tracks from The Lost Legacy below:
CD1:
1. Judgement Day 1981 [Live, Borlänge]
2. Demon from Kingdom of Death 1981 [Live, Borlänge]
We are revved up and ready to UNLEASH the PRIEST one more time for our metal fans around the world – so here’s a track for you to listen to entitled ‘Redeemer of Souls’ from our new album of the same title – Judas Priest

Stone Says: I’m digging this new Judas Priest song! Just knowing that the iconic Judas Priest are still around and creating new Metal material, really makes me feel like everything is freaking okay in the Metal world. Plus, I really appreciate the kick-ass album artwork for Redeemer Of Souls too! Metal be thy name.
Following the release of their Traverser LP via Toxic Assets in November, Austin’s caustic Sludge Metal trio, LIONS OF TSAVO, continue to tour the American landscape in support of the album. The band is currently embarked on their latest trek with another five cities still in its path, including Birmingham, Jackson, Shreveport and Dallas next to get slammed; this week LIONS OF TSAVO plow homeward.
LIONS OF TSAVO Spring Tour [remaining dates]:
4/29/2014 The Forge – Birmingham, AL
4/30/2014 TBA – Jackson, MS
5/01/2014 Fatty Arbuckle’s – Shreveport, LA
5/02/2014 Chichen Itza – Dallas, TX
After a long absence between releases, LIONS OF TSAVO returned with their long and winding third full-length manifesto, Traverser. While not far-removed from the attack shown on Firelung, the band splices in more breathing space in the newer material, and matched with their torrential onslaught of amplification, their debilitating, diverse alloy of metallic sludge is unquestionably more devastatingly memorable on Traverser. Eviscerating landscapes through blood spitting riffs and mind altering psychedelics, Traverser is both destruction and redemption incarnate; a conceptual album where the music, lyrics and artwork align, and cannot be separated. Washington-based Toxic Assets released the album on CD in November, while a vinyl edition remains on deck for release later in 2014.
Additional upcoming LIONS OF TSAVO live actions will be continually announced into the Summer months. In the meantime, stream all of Traverser and purchase the digital/CD versions of the record below:

Since 2006, CRAVING has masterfully blended Black and Death metal with soaring melodies and folk influences. In October of last year, Apostasy Records released the band’s sophomore album, At Dawn. With lyrics written in German, Russian and English and a noticeable progression from their 2012 debut, At Dawn stands as one of the most intriguing and varied records in recent memory. Guest appearances on At Dawn include Helge Stang (Ex-Equilibrium), Chris Caffery (Ex-Savatage), Niels Löffler (Ordan Ogan) and Agalaz (Obscurity). The official music video for CRAVING’s cover of “Only Teardrops” can be seen below:

Traditional metal meets modern synth sounds and progressive elements – with this combination VANISH prove that classic elements and modern metal elements can co-exist. The band’s compact songs with heavy riffs, strong melodies and bombastic parts create a unique and new sound.
Their songs deal with ever-present themes like mortality, anxiety or social problems. VANISH is a band that can look back on more than 14 years of live, studio and songwriting experience and that puts a lot of passion, effort and creativity into their music.
The band’s current line-up, consisting of Bastian Rose (vocals, keyboard), Tommy Rösch (guitar), Philipp Schönle (guitar), Daniele Dei Giudici (bass) and Ralf Nopper (drums), exists since more than a decade.
VANISH want to prove that innovative metal can inspire everyone – not only metal fans. In the past few years, VANISH rocked numerous clubs and festivals and supported bands such as Queensryche, Brainstorm, Mystic Prophecy, Axxis, Freedom Call and Kissin’ Dynamite.
VANISH’s upcoming album “Come To Wither” is set to be released in autumn 2014 via Massacre Records!
SLAYER – At the Revolver Golden Gods Awards held April 23rd, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Slayer surprised the capacity crowd with an unannounced performance, kicking off the show with a three-song set that included the global premiere of Implode, the band’s first new studio recording in five years.
Recorded earlier this month at Henson Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Terry Date and co-produced by Greg Fidelman, “Implode” is now available as a free download as a “thank you” to the band’s fans for their continued support. Or, as Kerry King put it, “you have been waiting for us, now we are delivering for you.” Registered members of Slayer’s fan club were sent an email right around midnight giving them the link to the song and a chance to hear it before it was made public.
Later this year, the two-time Grammy-winning Slayer will begin recording a new album, tentatively set for an early 2015 release date. The album will make Slayer history as it will be released on Nuclear Blast Records through the band’s own label imprint, closing out a 28-year relationship with Rick Rubin and American Recordings. No name for the imprint has been decided on yet.
“Rick has played a huge role in our career, we’ve made some great albums with him,” said Slayer’s Tom Araya. “But today is a new day, record companies don’t play the kind of role they once did, and we really like the idea of going out on our own, connecting directly with our fans, and Nuclear Blast is fired up about taking on that challenge with us.”
All future recordings on the band’s label imprint will be released worldwide exclusively through Nuclear Blast.
“I was a teenage rebel when ‘Show No Mercy’ came out,” said Markus Staiger, owner of Nuclear Blast, “and I identified with that record. It was the most extreme, aggressive thing at the time. They were then and still are the most brutal metal band on the planet! I really cannot express how proud I am that we are able to work with Slayer to join the Nuclear Blast family. We are ready for that next record and, I’m sure it will go into metal history!”
Added Nuclear Blast label manager Gerardo Martinez: “The prospect of helping Slayer take a leading role in the creative process surrounding their releases, projects and other cross-promotional opportunities is the ultimate honor for me, a metalhead who grew up in Los Angeles listening to Slayer. Nowhere in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Nuclear Blast would be making history alongside one of the best bands in metal.”
Slayer – Tom Araya/vocals, bass, Kerry King/guitar, drummer Paul Bostaph, and Gary Holt who continues to stand in for the band’s founding guitarist, the late Jeff Hanneman – will spend the next few months on the road touring major North American and European festivals as well as headlining dates, sharing the stages with Metallica, Iron Maiden and more (see below), but is expected to be back in the studio in the fall to record the rest of the new album.
