1818 – BIO:

Somewhere between a holy vision and an overdose is 1818, a South Central Pennsylvania band birthed from Metal, Rock, and ethereal vibes. They’ve played, and fit nicely, with modern cover, grudge, hardcore, extreme, biker, doom, rock, industrial, and punk acts, finding their niche somewhere in the middle of this sonic landscape.

Since establishing in May of 2015 they have shared the stage with national acts Flaw, Sevendust, Trivium, Born of Osris, Upon a Burning Body, Otep, Doll Skin, After the Burial, Tantric, Blameshift, Like a Storm, and more as well as countless local and regional acts and joined the Coldcock Whiskey family through endorsement.

The Hiraeth EP was originally released in September of 2016 and reissued by Pavement on June 2, 2017, and has been in regular rotation on Internet radio, including Extreme Metal Worx, The Jay Stone Show, Twisters Music, Real Radio Chaos and others.

RITUAL OF ODDS – New Studio Album “Ritual Of 9” Releases On February 3rd

Melodic Death Metal outfit Ritual of Odds from Greece have signed a worldwide deal with Swimming With Sharks Records. The band’s third studio album ‘Ritual of 9’ was recorded at StudiOdds Recording Studio and was mixed & mastered by John Mcris. The band takes influences from bands such as At The Gates, In Flames, and Carcass and have been called the ‘Melodic Death Metal Masters of Greece’ by Axis of Metal (Canada).

Label founder Noah “Shark” Robertson (Motograter/Ex-The Browning) states: “Patras, Greece… What a great find! The moment I heard “Ritual of 9” I knew this band was something special. They give me the same feeling I got the first time I listened to At The Gates or In Flames. They have all the elements of a melodic death metal powerhouse!”

Ritual of Odds formed in 2003, originally under the moniker Existence Edge, but changed the name in 2005 and began work on their ‘Building up the Underverse’ Demo. In 2008, the band played this material live on stage for the first time and received great reviews, encouraging them to begin working on their debut full length album ‘Underverse’; which was released in early 2010. At the end of that same year, the band recorded their 2nd full length album ‘God is an Atheist’, which was very well received. The band toured Europe and the US, in support of the release, performing with bands such as OMEN (USA), PAUL DI’ANNO (UK), SEPTIC FLESH (GR) and NIGHTRAGE (SW).

The band is often described as Melodic Death Metal, but many influences can be heard. Ritual of Odds have forged a unique sound by infusing elements of thrash, horror and epic metal into their own, creative brand of melodic death.

Legendary New Jersey thrashers, OVERKILL, have announced their 2017 North American trek with Egyptian themed Technical Death Metal champions and label mates NILE. The 25-date tour will kick-off on February 14th at The Trocadero in Philadelphia, make stops in Chicago, Anaheim, and Washington, DC before ending at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.

CRYSTAL VIPER – To Release New Video Clip And New Single On December 9th!

On December 9th, the Polish Heavy Metallers Crystal Viper will release a video clip to the first single off their new album, entitled “The Witch Is Back”. The video clip has been produced by the Grupa13 production house, which most recently also did the Kreator, Behemoth and Amon Amarth videos. “The Witch Is Back” single will be available as an online stream on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services and the digital download will be available on iTunes and Amazon. Fans that will decide to pre-order the digital version of the forthcoming new album, will be able to immediately download “The Witch Is Back” single for free.

CRYSTAL VIPER are returning after a 4 year absence, with a brand new concept album entitled “Queen Of The Witches”, which will be released on February 17, 2017, on AFM Records. The album has been produced by Bart Gabriel (Cirith Ungol, Mythra, Sacred Steel), and engineered and mixed by Mariusz Pietka (Jack Starr’s Burning Starr, Lonewolf).

The album’s cover artwork has been created by the legendary German artist, Andreas Marschall (Running Wild, Blind Guardian, Obituary). “Queen Of The Witches” also features three special guests: the MANOWAR co-founder and guitar hero Ross The Boss, and no less legendary Jeff Dunn (aka Mantas) of Venom / Venom Inc., will appear with guitar solos in two of the songs. Except that, in one of the songs fans will hear a duet of Marta Gabriel and Steve Bettney, vocalist of the NWoBHM cult heroes Saracen.

BATTLECROSS – Concert Photo Gallery And Review – Oddbody’s Music Room, Dayton, Ohio – May 7th, 2016

Back on May 7th of this year, I went to see the mighty BATTLECROSS at Oddbody’s Music Room in Dayton, Ohio. This venue plays host to many, many national, worldwide and local Metal bands. On this night Metal legends Suffocation and Soulfly were the headliners; with Abnormality and Lody Kong also as opening acts. I went solo to this night of amazing Metal mayhem and I also stayed in the pit for the entire BATTLECROSS set. Yes, I’m crazy at age 50. I did get pushed around pretty damn good too and I stuck it through.

BATTLECROSS are touring in support of their 3rd killer studio album: Rise To Power.

The next day my body felt like crap from the physical punishment it endured from being in the pit for both BATTLECROSS and Abnormality. I wouldn’t have changed a thing I did and that’s the way Metal is supposed to be if you want to be a human target in the pit. BATTLECROSS played an amazing set of songs and had their packed house of fans going crazy. Lead singer Kyle Gunther commanded the stage, never-ceasing to jump around for a second. Kyle stalked his fans and gave them their monies worth!

The entire BATTLECROSS band is extremely talented at their Metal crafts and are a Modern Thrash Metal band to reckon with. I absolutely enjoyed myself smashing and thrashing around to their Metal! I did (luckily) pause at times to take some photos of BATTLECROSS in action, thanks to a few BIG dudes at the front-line that shielded me from the carnage going on in the pit behind us. BATTLECROSS are from Michigan and are not to be missed if you worship in-your-face, high intensity Thrash Metal. Enjoy these photos I took and thank you for visiting. Metal Be Thy Name – Stone

HERMAN FRANK is a German Metal legend. A guitarist and songwriter supreme, Frank was a member of both Accept and Victory. He also founded his own band Moon Doc (which released three albums in the 90’s and early 2000’s). In 2009, his first “solo” album ‘Loyal To None’ was released, followed by ‘Right In The Guts’ three years later. After re-issues of both “Loyal To None” and “Right In The Guts” by their new label AFM Records, HERMAN FRANK and his band are back with a brand new offering now!

Titled “The Devil Rides Out”, this crushing piece of German metal will make fans cry out in joy. It combines Frank’s masterful guitar work with the raspy vocals of Swedish powerhouse Rick Altzi (Masterplan, At Vance), the powerful drumming of Andre Hilgers (ex-Rage) and the talent of Michael Müller (Jaded Heart) on bass. “The Devil Rides Out” is a stunning piece of work, produced by Herman Frank and mixed by Charly Bauerfeind (Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Helloween). It’s a must have for the collection of every Accept- and Victory fan especially, but will amaze Metalheads far beyond that.

Bay Area Thrash icons DEATH ANGEL have kicked off an epic run of live dates supporting Slayer and Anthrax. The latest trek, which commenced with a string of headlining dates September 4th, will run through October 30th and level over three dozen stages with an included stint on Rock Allegiance in Chester, Pennsylvania alongside Ghost, Killswitch Engage, Hellyeah and many more. DEATH ANGEL will be touring in support of their newest full-length The Evil Divide, released earlier this Spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The Evil Divide was recorded at AudioHammer studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (Trivium, Deicide), who previously worked on 2010’s Relentless Retribution and 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood. Mastering duties were handled by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City.

Three decades into their celebrated career, DEATH ANGEL remains as hungry as ever. As a result, uncompromising urgency and unpredictability drive The Evil Divide. The group – vocalist Mark Osegueda, lead guitarist Rob Cavestany, guitarist Ted Aguilar, drummer Will Carroll, and bassist Damien Sisson – satiate the appetite for buzzsaw speed riffs, double bass mayhem, and scorching vocals over the course of ten new anthems.

The Evil Divide stands out as the culmination of thirty-plus years of music for DEATH ANGEL. It kicked off with legendary debut, The Ultra-Violence, in 1987. The classic Frolic Through The Park began to cement their legacy and even earned the distinction of landing on Loudwire’s list of the “Top Ten Thrash Albums NOT Released By The Big 4.” The group broke up following 1990’s Act III only to reunite in 2004 on Art Of Dying for the next generation.

In 2008, DEATH ANGEL teamed with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Rush, Mastodon) for Killing Season recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606. In 2010, Relentless Retribution boasted a cameo from virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela, while 2013’s The Dream Calls For Blood bowed at #72 on the Billboard Top 200, selling 5,400 copies the first-week and earning the group’s first ever entry onto that respective chart.

KRYPTS – Announce October Release for “Remnants of Expansion” – Launch Premiere of Album Track “Entrailed to the Breaking Wheel”

Finnish Death/Doom overlords KRYPTS are set to return with their second full-length, Remnants of Expansion. Dark Descent Records will release the album October 28th on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats. Pre-orders begin on September 22nd.

Three years may have passed since Unending Degradation, but KRYPTS have lost none of their excruciating power that made their debut album such a special one, erecting a bridge in between their homeland glorious and down-tuned early 90’s glory and something even more sinister and doom-laden.

And the arrival in 2015 of Jukka Aho from GOREPHILIA on second guitar has done nothing to alter that rare chemistry, on the contrary…

Just like its predecessor, Remnants of Expansion reeks of that ancient feeling but dives even deeper into the abyss. Clocking altogether at 33 minutes, there’s something very majestic and solemn about its five songs.

Like a serpent circling its prey, the Finns like to play shadow and it’s never truer than on the album’s opener, the monstrous 10 minute “Arrow of Entropy.” But its follow-up, “The Withering Titan,” for instance starts off with Mongol throat chanting, two minutes later the listener is buried under a deluge of blast beats, only to let the instrumental title-track drown you in the cold and bottomless waters of funeral doom.

Once again adorned with Timo Ketola cryptic artwork, Remnants of Expansion is like a big haunted house at a top of a dead trees infested hill on the outskirts of town by a moonless night. Grand in scope, seemingly devoid of any human touch and yet towering over us like a malevolent entity. Behold. – written by Olivier Zoltar Badin

ENSLAVED To Release “The Sleeping Gods – Thorn” On November 11th

Norwegian progressive extreme metal icons ENSLAVED will release The Sleeping Gods – Thorn compilation this November via ByNorse Music. A full-length album composed of rare material from 2010-2011, The Sleeping Gods – Thorn is a unique collection of experimental material connecting with the band’s early roots.

The seven tracks comprising The Sleeping Gods – Thorn originally appeared on extremely limited EPs between ENSLAVED‘s Axioma Ethica Odini and Riitiir full-lengths and were recorded both in Solslottet Studio in Bergen, as well as the band members’ own studios and partly in the deep woods of Valevaag on the South Western Coast of Norway. Like the songs themselves, the production is a mix of old and new; high-tech and no-tech – a mix of concepts that have been essential in achieving the signature sound ENSLAVED has become notorious for today. Members Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson co-produced the material together with long-time collaborator Iver Sandøy.

The album includes lyrics sung in Norwegian, English, and Old Norse, with themes centered on mythology and the esoteric side of the runes, as well as contrasting the Norse Ways as a polytheistic belief system to the monotheistic plague of the Big World Religions. The music nods respectfully to the wildly varying deities that make up the pantheon of inspiration for ENSLAVED, both “then” and “now.” There are traces of the proto black metal of Bathory, the classic rock and heavy metal of the ’70s and ’80s, the synthesized and sequenced masters of the ’70s, prog-rock, world/Norse folk music, Norwegian black metal of the ’90s, modern classical music, goth rock a la Fields Of The Nephilim, and much more.

Tying he package together are the extensive liner notes by Kjellson and a beautiful new layout by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media (Roadburn Festival, Opeth, Darkthrone, At The Gates, etc.) whose mesmerizing new illustrations display a unique symbiosis between two of our times’ most exciting visual and sonic artists.

The Sleeping Gods – Thorn will see release on November 11th on limited edition blue vinyl (webshop edition), black vinyl, digipak CD, and digitally via ByNorse Music. Preorders will start on September 30th.

MALPHAS – Sign With Fatal Illness Management

Up and coming Philadelphia based Black Metal band MALPHAS are pleased to announce that they have signed with FATAL ILLNESS MANAGEMENT to represent the band throughout 2016 and into the future.

The band commented about the signing: “We are excited and proud to announce our signing with Fatal Illness Management; big things are on the horizon. Be sure to check out our roster mates in Vesperia and Fenris.”

Fatal Illness founder Eric Dow further commented: “Fatal Illness Management are excited to be working with up and comers Malphas, you can expect great things from this union.”

In further news, the band is putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to their 2015 critically acclaimed EP The Conjuring. The new album is projected to be recorded soon and released in mid 2017, further details will be announced in the coming months.

CRYSTAL VIPER are back! The Polish Heavy Metallers are returning after a 4 year absence, which was caused by the health issues relating to the band’s front woman and founder, Marta Gabriel, and which placed the future of CRYSTAL VIPER into question, (last year Marta underwent surgery of her nasal and facial sinuses), “The witch is back” however, sounding stronger, heavier and louder than ever before…!

On February 17, 2017, AFM RECORDS will release CRYSTAL VIPER‘s new concept album entitled “Queen Of The Witches”. The album, which will be available as a limited edition vinyl LP, CD and digital download, has been produced by Bart Gabriel – producer known for his collaboration with acts such as CIRITH UNGOL, MYTHRA and SACRED STEEL (and within their private lives, Marta’s husband), and engineered and mixed by Mariusz Pietka (JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR, LONEWOLF, MORTICIAN). The album’s cover artwork has been created by the legendary German artist, Andreas Marschall (RUNNING WILD, BLIND GUARDIAN, KREATOR). A Finnish melancholic Melodic Death Metal band, Shadecrown have set a release date for their debut album. The album is called Agonia and it is set for release on October 21st, 2016, via Inverse Records.

Shadecrown was founded in 2012 by songwriter/keyboardist Saku Tammelin and they have previously released one demo and EP. The band’s music consists of many different elements and it’s influenced by many Metal genres, such as thrash and Melodic Doom Metal. In other words Shadecrown’s music combines beautiful melancholic melodies and aggressive guitar riffs.

BAND BIO:
Sweden’s DECOMPOSED grew into a band in 2010, shortly after being conceived as a pure one-man Death Metal project. A year later the Stench of Death demo was recorded, which led to the self-titled debut album the following year. Two years thereafter the follow-up, entitled Devouring was released, a much more mature creation focused on darkness, horror and madness.

After a few live performances and quite a few internal struggles, DECOMPOSED had to cease to exist as a live band. All members left, and only composer/founder Jesper Ekstål remained. The work on the third chapter Wither was well under way during this period, and it continued during obstacles of every kind.
