Metal Odyssey Headquarters – My pup Ozzy (above) isn’t kidding, it’s been 6 years! It is March 1st, 2015 and it’s the 6 year anniversary of Metal Odyssey. Whoa! Shut the front door! Gather the villagers! My, how fast 6 years can fly by! Metal Odyssey was launched back on March 1st, 2009 (MMIX).
Back in 2009, The Walking Dead and Finding Bigfoot were not on television yet. Wow! In 2009 a pound of bacon cost $3.19 and a U.S. postage stamp cost 42 cents. Unreal! Six years ago, after an eleven year wait, the iconic KISS released a new studio album:
KISS Sonic Boom was released on October 6th, 2009.

During 2009 I was new to the blogosphere, thus I used about 200 or more “tags” with every post that was published on Metal Odyssey. I was such a nerd. Oops. I still am. Um, anyhow, take a look for yourself, as to how “tag crazy” I once was:
After 6 years with Metal Odyssey in my Metal life, I’ve learned quickly that there is always room for improvement and I don’t know everything. There are no laurels to rest on here. Each day I am grateful that other humans actually visit Metal Odyssey and hopefully it brings some kind of Metal joy to their lives; as Metal Odyssey has brought immeasurable Metal joy to mine. My love for Metal and Rock ‘N’ Roll hopefully shows, throughout these past 6 years of Metal Odyssey.
I thank every visitor (both random and loyal) and each subscriber to Metal Odyssey; you are ALL the reason why Metal Odyssey’s Metal wheels keep moving. To ALL the kick-ass Twitter followers, you RULE too! Each respective PR agency, PR rep, record label, musician and band I tremendously applaud for delivering to me the invaluable promotional materials and/or insight that are so necessary in the proper execution of Metal Odyssey. You ALL know who you are and you ALL ROCK!
I placed the Witch Cross Axe To Grind album cover (above) for the reason that I can.
I especially thank Nilla, Scott Coverdale, Megy, Sara, Kev Moore, my guardian Metal angels, WordPress.com and my fellow blogging peers for any and all support, these past 6 years. Metal Be Thy Name!
Avenged Sevenfold self-financed their own mobile role-playing fantasy video game called Deathbat, partnering with Subscience Studios. Deathbat is available for iOS and Android devices. The Hail to the King: Deathbat original video game soundtrack was created by Avenged Sevenfold.
If you love mobile video games, the Castlevania (or the like) video games, trying out something different on the scary and inspirational spectrum of music and/or love Avenged Sevenfold, then this video game soundtrack is for you. It’s all instrumental songs coupled with 8-bit music and I bought it off of iTunes. It is an entertaining listen!
Bringing to life this Deathbat soundtrack and making it available for purchase was a grand idea from Avenged Sevenfold. Ten songs fused with dark/fantasy video game sounds and atmospheres of Deathbat is, in my Metal opinion… Metal. This soundtrack was released on January 27th, 2015, via Warner Bros. Records. Metal be thy name.
Hail to the King: Deathbat mobile video game is available from the App Store and Google Play.

Crowquill Records is pleased to announce that they will be releasing the debut EP of CODAS, the post-metal project from Mario Quintero of Sleep Lady and Spotlights. The EP, which is titled Currents, is projected to be released in the spring of 2015.
Currents will consist of 4 tracks and is recommended for fans of bands such as Jesu, Nadja and Old Man Gloom.
Label CEO BJ Dierkes had the following to say about the signing:
“Codas is one of those projects that comes along out of nowhere and just kicks you right in the gut. Their debut EP “Currents” hits a sweet spot across an entire spectrum of influences and genres that have been masterfully melded together. This stuff is on a whole other level, and we’re stoked to be working with them.”
The label has released a teaser trailer for the album which can be viewed below or at this location:
Codas is the solo project from New York-based Mario Quintero of Sleep Lady and Spotlights. A year after relocating from San Diego, CA, Codas began as an experiment in not over thinking things, as well as not being concerned with any specific sound or genre. Their debut EP “Currents” (Crowquill 2015) displays elements of post-rock, noise, and even the math-ier side of 90s post-hardcore, laced with influences of industrial, doom, and black metal.

GRUESOME is a debilitating Death Metal faction featuring members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa. A respectful celebration of the sound of the early Death records, the collective was borne out of guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and drummer Gus Rios’ (Malevolent Creation) mutual involvement with the Death To All tours, with Harvey serving as frontman for the original nine-member mini-tour and Rios performing “Baptized In Blood” and working with DTA drummer Sean Reinert on the following US tour where Exhumed filled in as support on a several dates. The pair stayed in touch and discussed their mutual love (obsession?) for the early half of Death’s catalog.
After deliberating and ultimately discarding the idea of putting together another incarnation of DTA to focus exclusively on the first two albums, Harvey half-jokingly suggested writing their own songs in that vein. It wasn’t long before the idea gained traction, and the “band” had five songs written. With Harvey composing in California, Rios recruited Possessed guitarist Daniel Gonzalez and Derketa bassist Robin Mazen to record the material in Florida, while Harvey tracked his vocals on the West Coast. The result is eight-track debut, Savage Land, a truly gruesome slab of late-’80s/early-’90s Florida-styled Death Metal. Tragically, there will never be any truly new Death material, but GRUESOME is humbly determined to keeping the band’s classic sound alive as faithfully as possible.
Check Out GRUESOME’s Savage Land Trailer Below:
Savage Land – Track Listing:
1. Savage Land
2. Trapped In Hell
3. Demonized
4. Hideous
5. Gangrene
6. Closed Casket
7. Psychic Twin
8. Gruesome
Elaborates Harvey, “We had such a blast writing and recording this album, I just hope people enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed doing it. It was a great experience working with my friends in Florida and getting to write and record my take on the Death sound. I’m beyond happy with the way everything came out and I hope people take it as the loving, respectful piece of work that it is. I know that sounds counterintuitive for a death metal album, but the whole band is really a super nerdy fan letter to Chuck [Schuldiner], James [Murphy], Rick [Rozz], Terry [Butler], Chris [Reifert], Paul [Masvidal], Sean [Reinert], and Stevie D [DiGiorgio] for making records that have given me literally decades of enjoyment. Having had a chance to meet and hang out with all of those dudes from the early Death days, with the exception of Bill Andrews, has been nothing but humbling, rewarding, enlightening and has only deepened my love for the band and made it that much more personal. So I decided to write an album about ’80s horror movies and deadly diseases, which is what anyone would do under the circumstances, right? Anyway, if you like late ’80s Death, I sincerely hope you enjoy our take on it, which is really what this album is, with all the drippy blood and inverted crosses in the logo that it implies.”
Savage Land was recorded by Rios and Gonzalez at Riversound Studios in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, mixed by Jarrett Pritchard at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and features a guest guitar solo on “Closed Casket” by James Murphy as well as cover art by legendary illustrator Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth, Massacre, Athiest et el).
Savage Land will be released in North America via Relapse Records on April 21st, 2015, April 17th in Germany, Benelux and Finland and April 20th in the UK and the rest of the world on CD and digitally. If the band name doesn’t spell it out for you, the album title surely will. This is nothing but grindcore – stripped down, unpretentious, and loud. At the same time, it’s much more than that. UNREST is comprised of craftsmen from bands both familiar (WOE, TRENCHROT and those about to be (Dark Descent’s up-and-coming doom act, CRYPT SERMON).
The riff and song construction throughout this debut album is right in line from what you’d expect from a group of such capable veterans. They wear their NASUM (and by proxy, NAPALM DEATH) influence on their sleeves, but through sheer mastery of the craft, they elevate the material well beyond a mere tribute to old masters.
Dutch underground cult Death Metal unit ETERNAL SOLSTICE are streaming a new track from Remnants of Immortality, their first full-length album in nearly two decades. Crown of Viserys is offering the exclusive stream of “Force Fed Suicide” at this location.

Dark Descent Records will release this uptempo beast of an album, filled with tons of shredding solos, on March 10 in the US (RED) and March 17 in Europe (Sound Pollution) and April 2 (Code 7/PhD).
