On This Day In METAL History – September 28th…

01 – Back on September 28th, 1954, the legendary George Lynch was born! Happy Metal Birthday, George Lynch! This amazing guitarist was instrumental in Dokken’s skyrocketing to the top during the 80’s, with his legendary signature guitar tones and screaming solos, George Lynch gave this band an identity that has proved to be irreplaceable. During his post-Dokken years, George Lynch has worked tirelessly on a boastful Heavy Music career with his bands Lynch Mob, Souls Of We, T & N and most currently KXM.

02 – 23 years ago on September 28th 1991, AC/DC headlined a “Monsters Of Rock” festival at Tushino Airfield in Moscow, Russia. The show unofficially became part of the “Monsters Of Rock” European tour that was taking place since the later part of August.

Just one month earlier, there was a failed coup consisting of members of the Soviet Union’s government attempt to take control from the Soviet President. The concert was assembled to take place in Moscow’s Tushino Airfield as a thank you from the Russian government, offering free admission to concert attendees. AC/DC were invited to perform just three days prior to the concert date.

The crowd in attendance is one of the largest in concert history, and certainly the largest in “Monsters Of Rock” festival history, at an incredible estimated 1.6 million. Other bands that performed that day include Metallica, The Black Crowes, Pantera, and E.S.T..

On this day in 2012, the owner of the site of the 2003 Warwick R.I., nightclub fire (sparked by “Great White’s” pyrotechnics that killed 100 people) donated the land for a permanent memorial.

KAINE – To Support Savage Messiah In November

KAINE are pleased to announce that they have been chosen to open for Savage Messiah on the 21st of November at the Portland Arms Cambridge.

The band was given the support slot after being chosen by fans in a poll that was run by the promoter, Millerton Events Cambridge. Kaine won over half the votes despite competing against 11 other bands for the slot.

Band founder Rage Sadler said:

“Many of our fans have requested we play with Savage Messiah for a long time, seeing that we are two revival bands with styles that complement each other well. We are extremely lucky to have been given this rare opportunity to actually do this gig by our fans. Savage Messiah are on a big label and its not very easy to work with one another, so we are very excited about being able to finally do this. We will be playing a number of our older thrash songs at the show which makes this gig even more special for the band. It will also be fun to catch up with Mira (Savage Messiah, bass) who we befriended while he was playing in Monument. This will definitely be a gig not to miss.”

01 – On this day, back in 1964, John Tempesta was born! Happy METAL Birthday, John Tempesta! Whoa! (See photo at top). This super fabulous drummer has played for/recorded with The Cult, Testament, Exodus, Rob Zombie, Tony Iommi, Helmet, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Scum Of The Earth and Brian Posehn. Phew, that’s a very impressive list!

02 – Bruce Dickinson joined IRON MAIDEN in 1981 on this day and the rest is immeasurable METAL history! Whoa!

03 – AC/DC released their 12th studio album Ballbreaker on this day in 1995. It was also the return of Phil Rudd behind the drums on this album too! Metal be thy name!

MACABRE – October Tour With Ringworm Precedes November Mini-Tour With Carcass

Chicago’s Murder Metal trio, MACABRE, is set to rampage across the US on a headlining twenty-four city slaughter spree this October. Joined by openers, Panzerfaust, and with direct support from the mighty Ringworm, MACABRE will spread their grisly tales of terror across the country from October third through Halloween night. The trek includes participation in Philip H. Anselmo’s second annual Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, alongside Gwar, Voivod, Neurosis, Danzig, Samhain, Eyehategod, Vader, Corrections House, Lustmord and others.

After returning home to resupply with fresh provisions, just a week-and-a-half later MACABRE will caravan through the Midwestern region on a brutal escapade as direct support for the legendary Carcass. The five-date invasion will see Pontiac, Grand Rapids, Madison, Des Moines and Joliet ravaged by the vicious lineup, which also includes the berserk invigoration of Exhumed and Noisem.

MACABRE will also be headlining the Chicago Music Factory and Rebel Radio’s seventeenth annual Holiday Of Horrors in their hometown on December 26th, joined by Jungle Rot, Scythe and Armored Assault.

Established in 1985, MACABRE’s methodical and unique auditory executions have delivered tales of true crime, serial killers and mass murderers to life through a sick synthesis of math rock, nursery rhymes, punk, thrash, folk melodies, death metal, jazz fusion, black metal and more into an energetic, catchy and unmistakable amalgam. NO MERCY – Suicidal Records To Re-Release “Widespread Bloodshed (Love Runs Red)” From Legendary Crossover Act

Suicidal Records is proud to announce their plans of re-releasing the entire collective works by legendary crossover outfit, NO MERCY, this October.

Founded by Mike Clark in the mid-’80s, before he became a part of the dominating Suicidal Tendencies, NO MERCY only released one album amidst touring regionally on the West Coast in the band’s short-lived history, yet those songs left an impressive impact on the scene forever. With Clark handling all guitar duties, joined by bassist (and O.G. Suicidal artist) Ric Clayton, drummer Sal Troy, and Suicidal’s Mike Muir on vocals, Widespread Bloodshed (Love Runs Red) was engineered by Palm Neal and produced by Mike Muir. After being originally released on LP and cassette by Suicidal Tendencies’ own Suicidal Records in 1987, now, over two-and-a-half decades since it’s been available, the label will reissue these timeless anthems in upgraded quality.

Remastered by “Big Bass” Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, Widespread Bloodshed (Love Runs Red) will be released in the US on October 28th (also Mike Clark’s birthday) on CD, download as well as traditional black vinyl and picture disc LP versions. The record will see release in Europe the day before on CD and digital only.

FDA Rekotz To Release DESERTED FEAR’s “Kingdom Of Worms” October 24th

Kingdom of Worms, the highly anticipated new album from German Death Metal juggernaut DESERTED FEAR, will be released October 24 through FDA Rekotz. The vinyl LP version will be released on November 21.

Thuringia´s DESERTED FEAR are one of the best Death Metal bands to come out of Germany in years. The band’s 2012 debut My Empire was praised the world over and won them recognition in the European scene as a force to be reckoned with. Germany´s Rock Hard magazine referred to the album as “simply amazing.”

Kingdom of Worms was recorded in June and July 2014 at Eisensound Studio in Eisenberg (Thuringia / Germany) under the knife of guitarist Fabian Hildebrandt. Mixing and Mastering duties have been handled by the legendary Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, etc.), who put the finishing touches on Kingdom of Worms in his very own Unisound Studio. The dark and atmospheric artwork was once again created by Thomas “Necromaniac” Westphal and fits the music perfectly.

POSTVORTA – Debut Album Out Now!

On September 16th, Bleeding Light Records released the debut album of Italy’s POSTVORTA.   While there are many bands that traverse and explore the same terrain as heavy titans Neurosis and Isis, very few of those bands embrace these influences and yet do not feel like imitators.   

POSTVORTA, the pulverizing sextet from Ravenna, Italy are ones who incorporate a similar style as their influences, but move themselves and the listener through stunning corridors of sound that feels fresh. Bringing elements of Post-Metal, Hardcore and Doom into a swirling vortex of monolithic and earth-shaking heaviness.

The band creates beauty, destroys and rebuilds it in stunning and imaginative ways time and time again throughout their 70 minute debut offering. As beautiful as it is ferocious, ‘Beckoning Light We Will Set Ourselves on Fire’ commands the listener with authority .

Initially self-released in May digitally, the band recently joined up with Bleeding Light Records who will issue the album on CD today.

Seattle trad-metallers ZERO DOWN have signed to Minotauro Records and a fall/winter release is set for the release of their fourth album, tentatively titled No Limit to the Evil. Stay tuned for the release date.

After releasing their last CD independently, ZERO DOWN is now set and excited to release their next ripper on Minotauro Records in the Fall/Winter of 2014. Once again the band will be reuniting with Martin Feveyear (QOTSA, SCREAMING TREES, DUFF MCKEAGAN’S LOADED, etc) at Jupiter Studios in Seattle to lay down this beast and packaging will include artwork by the master of Metal art, Ed Repka (MEGADETH, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, DEATH, MISFITS, etc). Tentatively titled No Limit To The Evil, this new opus will feature ten new cuts and sure to be Minotauro’s heaviest release to date, so scream for me motherfuckers!

Formed in 2002, ZERO DOWN consists of five veteran musicians from the Seattle Metal/Punk Rock scene that cast iron 70’s Arena Rock with classic NWOBHM guitar riffs to bring the old school Metal traditions to the present! ORANGE GOBLIN – Set To Return To North America

With ORANGE GOBLIN‘s Back From The Abyss full-length now three weeks away from release, the band has confirmed the first North American tour in support of the record. Set to begin December 1st and run through December 21st, ORANGE GOBLIN will return to the stage touring alongside Down, Bl’ast, and labelmates, King Parrot!

Vocalist Ben Ward comments, “I remember being a spotty 19-year-old rushing out to the record store to buy the first Down album NOLA the very day it came out in 1994. Now, twenty years on, I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming that ORANGE GOBLIN are heading back to North America as main support to the mighty Down. It really is fairytale stuff for us. Down are one of the bands that are the reason ORANGE GOBLIN exists. To be given this opportunity to go out to promote our brand new album, Back From The Abyss, to the Down fans is just a dream come true the rest of the band and I can’t wait to get started. Recorded earlier this year, Back From The Abyss reunites ORANGE GOBLIN with producer Jamie Dodd; who served as producer on the band’s best-selling album in North America to date – 2012’s A Eulogy For The Damned. Two songs already have fans globally excited; Loudwire and Metal Hammer premiered the Motörhead-tinged “The Devil’s Whip” to overwhelming success on August 15th. Last week Noisey premiered the first video from the album for the song “Sabbath Hex.” The band is currently working on a second video for the song “Mythical Knives” which is expected to be completed by month’s end.

Touring for the album will start in Europe on October 9th. Travelling the continent with friends Saint Vitus, ORANGE GOBLIN will pull song selections from their extensive catalog now spanning eight studio albums. Tickets for their North American dates are set to go on sale for shows Friday, September 19th.

Costa Rican Death Metallers CORPSE GARDEN Self-Releasing New Single “Suspended Over the Abyss” On September 23

Costa Rican Death Metallers CORPSE GARDEN will release new single “Suspended Over the Abyss” for purchase digitally on September 23 on i-Tunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play and other digital retailers. The song is now streaming, listen below:

The single comes from upcoming sophomore full-length album Ecdysis for which the band is currently seeking a record label to release. Interested parties should get in touch with Jon@theflamingarts.eu.

The new single is representative of the band’s old school, technical Death Metal sound combined with progressive passages, killer solos and dense atmospheres.”Suspended over the Abyss” reflects the band’s new direction, due in part to lineup changes and musical growth since guitarist Esteban Sancho, bassist Carlos Venegas and vocalist Felipe Tencio joined the band. Ecdysis was crafted from December 2013 to May 2014 in Bushido Audio Productions in Costa Rica; it was recorded, produced and mixed by Juan Pablo Calvo. Album artwork was created by Alexander L. Brown of BNB Illustration and Design based on the concept provided by the band.

According to the band: “Ecdysis means the shedding or molting of an outer layer of skin particularly on snakes, it means transformation for us. We shed our skin and changed our approach to music in every aspect and this is what we wanted the album’s cover and title to reflect that. The concept is based on the steps of Solve Et Coagula, the alchemical process; making reference to Carl Jung’ studies of the collective unconscious, psychology and alchemy. This conceptual piece is crafted to capture the journey through all the stages and emotions finding the underlying patterns of order in darkness and nature of the psyche.”

CORPSE GARDEN is a Death Metal act hailing from Heredia, Costa Rica. It was formed in early 2008 due to the dissolution of a gore/grind band. In 2009, they recorded a demo and in 2011 they hit the studio for the second time to record their debut album Burnt by the Light in Bushido Audio Productions with Producer Juan Pablo Calvo. The album was mastered by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street Studios in Sweden where bands like Opeth, Katatonia, Bloodbath, Amon Amarth, recorded. Burnt by the Light was released in January 2012.

CORPSE GARDEN entered the Wacken Metal Battle Central America, competing against nearly 90 bands from all over the region. On March 31, 2012 CORPSE GARDEN became the first Costa Rican band to win this battle and to play in the official worldwide Wacken Metal Battle on August 1, 2012.

CORPSE GARDEN has shared stage with Disgorge (Mex), Morbid Angel (USA), Malevolent Creation (USA), Mnemic (Den) and Behemoth (Pol) as well as touring in Central America and Europe.

ORANGE GOBLIN – Premieres New Video Via Noisey; Back From The Abyss To Drop Next Month

BLASTFEST – Adds Seven More Bands To The Lineup!

Norway’s Blastfest has just unveiled another seven great reasons why you need to book the 19th – 21st of February 2015 off work. Today the festival organisers announce the addition of seven more bands to the billing including Finnish Folk Metal upstarts Finntroll, Melodic Black Metal sextet Moonsorrow and Ireland’s men of myth Primordial.

The Bergen festival is only in its second year and after having already announced acts such as At The Gates, Decapitated, Rotting Christ, Destruction and Asphyx amongst others and with more yet to come, it’s fair to say that Blastfest is already offering one of the finest Extreme Metal line-ups of 2015.

FINNTROLL

In their spare time we at Blastfest like to pursue our native Norwegian interest of troll hunting. This led us deep into the woods of Finland, where we picked up quite the collection of healthy specimens. In February 2015 we’ll present them to you, on stage, under the moniker of Finntroll. Yes, the Finns are indeed booked and ready to wreak havoc with their extreme Folk Metal!

PRIMORDIAL

We witnessed them laying Beyond The Gates Festival in ruins, and we have seen them do amazing performances earlier, so we figured we’d invite them back to Bergen once again. Yupp, we’ve gotten hold of the mighty and epic Primordial for you! They will surely spirit the earth aflame with yet another of their absolutely brilliant performances.

MOONSORROW

Yet another Finnish act!? Don’t mind if we do! They have never been to Bergen before, and we know they have quite a following over here as well, so we invited Moonsorrow to introduce their brand of Pagan/Folk- Black Metal. We have no idea what all those album titles translate to, but we know that the band are poised and ready to deliver you with the goods. Keep your Minttu bottle close and your spirits high!

MORGOTH

Yes, we do indeed feel sorry for the Death Metal fanatic. Thus, we are continuing our line of classic Death Metal bands for the lineup, to ease whatever emotional distress the aforementioned group might struggle with. We have managed to get hold of the classic German band Morgoth. This will be their very first appearance on stage in Bergen!

CRIB45

There’s no complete lineup without the inclusion of some up-and-coming acts. Since we have already been picking up Finnish acts en masse, we thought that we could very well add yet another one to Blastfest 2015. Crib45 is a Sludge Metal/Post-Hardcore act with a great promise of making an impact in the Metal scene. We are proud to welcome them as part of the Blastfest 2015 edition.

TORTORUM

According to themselves, these guys are set on totally annihilating Blastfest 2015. They promise an utterly dark and psychotic delivery of the brilliant material that constitutes their hitherto two album releases. We are talking about Tortorum, the crazy bunch comprised of members hailing from such acclaimed acts as Aeternus, Gorgoroth, Dead To This World, Vulture Industries and Gravdal. Be prepared for an onslaught, or stay at home!

GOATWHORE – Readies For Forthcoming Live Assaults; Additional Dates Announced

Louisiana blackened thrash perpetrators, GOATWHORE, are currently readying for their next round of headlining live assaults. Slated to commence in Houston on September 15th, the band will quash nearly two dozen US cities including recently added dates in Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Virginia, Georgia and Florida as well as five shows supporting death rock/horror punk icons, Samhain! From there, GOATWHORE will bring their canticles of chaos overseas for a European invasion with Dying Fetus, Malevolence and Fallujah. The lengthy expedition embarks on November 8th in Liege, Belgium and comes to a ceremonial close on December 19th in Hamburg, Germany.

Due to the upcoming birth of his first son, GOATWHORE bassist James Harvey will be sitting out both tours. In the interim, the band has enlisted bassist TA from San Antonio blackened death horde, HOD.

Comments Harvey of his absence, “Unfortunately, I will be staying home for the upcoming tour dates with Samhain as well as the European tour with Dying Fetus. This is due to the upcoming birth of my first son by my longtime girlfriend, Lorrena. He is due between the middle and the end of September and I will be staying home to fulfill my paternal duties. Obviously we have known about this for months and have planned accordingly – our friend TA from the Texas band, HOD, will be filling in on bass duties for the upcoming US tour. I am bummed that I will not be able to go back out on the road for the rest of the year, but I’m sure everyone understands the gravity of welcoming a new life into the world. I wish the best of luck to the guys on the upcoming runs and hope to see everyone soon.”
