THE DEVIL – Self-Titled Debut Set For North American Release On November 20th

Candlelight Records, in cooperation with The Silent City, today confirms November 20th as the North American release date for The Devil, the self-titled debut album from the London-based sextet. The masked, all-instrumental band self-produced the entire recording.

THE DEVIL is not a typical Metal band. Combining Traditional/Classic Heavy Metal with select historical, political and conspiracy-laden oracles, the anonymous masked and cloaked musicians present a cinematic soundscape that is sure to strike the fancy of the curious. The 13-track album was crafted at six different recording studios and possesses a sound that is unlike any other you will encounter. Earlier this year, the internationally assembled band launched the beginning of the album campaign via two select videos. Since initiation, over half a million YouTube views have been logged.

Two songs from The Devil have already been tapped for soundtrack inclusion; Extinction Level Event licensed to upcoming film E.S.P. expected late 2012 and Divinorium licensed to upcoming film The Fury. The Fury is being directed by James Colmer (Superman Returns, House of Wax, See No Evil, will feature Erica Leerhsen (Blair Witch Project, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and is expected early 2013.

Director James Colmer comments on his attraction to THE DEVIL for the upcoming feature film. “Choosing a track for a feature film is often times a difficult task. For us it was a quest of finding a song that could convey the driving, thematic and ominous presence of this psychological thriller in the opening scenes. When I first heard ‘Divinorum,’ I immediately felt the connection I was looking for. It was as though it had been composed specifically for this film. I truly believe you can change the entire feeling and structure of a scene by making the right choice when it comes to music. I know we have made the right choice with THE DEVIL.”

AS I LAY DYING will be performing a special private CD release show in conjunction with Metal Blade Records 30th Anniversary that will take place on street date in New York at Santos Party House. Starting September 14, fans can pre-order AWAKENED at three New York-area independent record stores and receive a FREE laminate that gives you access into the private NYC release show! AWAKENED–which marks the group’s sixth studio album– is garnering early critical acclaim. In his 4/5 star album review for Alternative Press magazine, writer Jason Schreurs hailed, “Screamer Tim Lambesis has never sounded better than on a metal anthem like ‘Overcome,’ his shattered scream completely ripping faces. …Awakened is the best As I Lay Dying album you can point to as metal both modernized and maximized.” (October 2012).

REVOCATION – Teratogenesis EP Releases Today Via SCION A/V + It’s FREE! REVOCATION North American Fall Tour Announced!

Massachusetts metallers REVOCATION have announced a North American tour for this fall presented by Scion A/V.  The tour will begin October 18th in Trenton, NJ and run through November 14th in Montreal, QC.  Support on the tour will come from A Life Once Lost and KEN mode. A complete list of dates can be found below.

In conjunction with the tour, Scion A/V is releasing a new EP from REVOCATION today (September 25th). The EP is titled Teratogenesis and features the first recordings with the band’s new bass player Brett Bamberger.

Frontman Dave Davidson commented on the band’s new bassist:

“Hey what’s up guys, just wanted to give everyone an update on what’s been happening in the world of Revo. As some of you have already noticed Anthony has parted ways with the band. The split was amicable and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. We have recently enlisted the services of Brett Bamberger and we are incredibly stoked to have him on board as an official member. Come see us live and buy him a beer.”

The clip opens with singer Tommy Rogers working on keyboard parts with co-producer Jamie King and follows Rogers as he works on vocals, including playfully wielding a pocket knife during one of the clips, for the 12-track release which Metal Sucks has already deemed a “masterpiece.”

I LEGION – Release Debut Album Featuring Members Of Soilwork, Threat Signal, Mutiny Within And More

What happens when you combine Björn Strid (SOILWORK), Jon Howard (THREAT SIGNAL), Chris Clancy (ex-MUTINY WITHIN), Peter Wichers (SOILWORK), Brandon Jacobs (ex-MUTINY WITHIN), Andy James (SACRED MOTHER TONGUE), Angel Vivaldi (VEXT), and musical genius Frederic Riverin?  Simple: you get one kick ass Metal record in the form of the band I LEGION.

I LEGION have officially released their debut album titled Beyond Darkness.

I LEGION is the musical work of Frederic Riverin, who spent the better part of 2011 crafting his latest project. With the help of producer and vocalist Chris Clancy, they both created the melodic metal sounds of what would become the debut album titled Beyond Darkness. Metal monsters Björn Strid, Jon Howard, and Chris Clancy handled vocal duties for the epic 12 track masterpiece. Modern guitar heroes Peter Wichers, Andy James, Angel Vivaldi, and Brandon Jacobs all contributed to the tasteful melodic lead guitar playing.

All these musicians helped Frederic to create his own album: alone, but with a legion behind him. The I LEGION.

The follow-up to 2011’s highly successful masterpiece The Beginning Of Times (Finnish charts: #1, German charts: #16) is being produced and mixed by no less than HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren (CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL, DIMMU BORGIR).

THE NEOLOGIST – Release: The Promise Of Eternal Separation – FOR FREE

The two-man Melodic Metal machine known as THE NEOLOGIST has just released their sophomore album The Promise of Eternal Separation. Following in the melodic footsteps of their debut album The 26 Letters of Your Universe, these guys certainly don’t disappoint in their latest offering. As with all their releases, The Promise of Eternal Separation is jam-packed with extras including a cover version of “Red Clouds” by DISARMONIA MUNDI, a dub-step remix of “A Call To Harms” by JESTER STRIKES, as well as two additional bonus tracks to be released on the bands Kazakhstan release and Vatican City release (both due in October 2012).

THE NEOLOGIST is known for their unique and fan friendly approach to releasing their music for free and their latest is no exception. The band previously released The 26 Letters of Your Universe for free, as well as an entire IN FLAMES cover album titled In Flames We Trust: Volume I and tracks from their continuing work in progress of an entire SOILWORK cover album titled Working the Soil. When asked about why they give all their music away for free, bassist Devin Walsh comments, “Would you rather have to pay for it?”

FEAR FACTORY – By now, every loyal Fear Factory fan has (hopefully) purchased and listened to The Industrialist (at least) 500 times by now. Maybe more. Released back on June 2nd, via Candlelight Records, The Industrialist is a concept album that has what may be interpreted as a complex storyline, due in part to its philosophical thoughts that the lyrics provoke. I’ve (once again) been thoroughly entertained by the legendary Industrial Metal sound of Fear Factory on their eighth studio album. The concept has been equally fun for me as well, albeit a bit scary though!

Stone notes: When I refer to “machine” in the following lines, it is referenced towards the Industrialist and automaton(characters) that are the focal points of this impressive and chilling album: The Industrialist.

Man creates machine. Machine becomes a “free-thinker” by developing memories and emotions. Machine senses a “longing for existence” through said inherited memories and emotions. Machine rebels against its creator; which is man. The longtime controversial topic of man versus machine is once again realized and materialized through song, courtesy of the dynamic Industrial Metal super-duo of Burton C. Bell (vocalist, lyricist, producer) and Dino Cazares (multi-instrumentalist, producer).

I find The Industrialist to perhaps be a warning of what could one day become. Mankind may not have automatons walking around and tending to our every single need at this moment in 2012; yet computers do have an automaton quality about them. Granted, computers can only perform tasks that they are programmed to do and mankind still controls the technological wheel that drives every application we depend on.

As I write this post on my MacBook Pro, I realize this computer will only do what I “tell it to do” by the click of a mouse or strike of a key. However, the science fiction side of my brain does make me ponder: could there one day be a computer application that will inherit true human emotions and memories? I’m not talking about archival memories, nor synthetic emotions here… I’m questioning the scary thought of a computer app becoming a free thinking entity!

The more I ponder this sci-fi aspect of computer technology, the more difficult it becomes (for me) to comprehend. A topic like this may very well be grouped in with those sensitive subjects such as politics, religion and (gasp) sex. Are we (mankind) supposed to question our rapid ascent of technology? When the topic of Armageddon is raised, the usual suspects of nuclear war, UFO’s, climate change, spontaneous natural disasters, the burning out of our sun, disease, famine and meteor showers are discussed. What about man-made machines like robotics or computers being the culprit(s) of a terrifying Armageddon?

As I read and listen to the lyrics of The Industrialist, it does take me back to the iconic box office franchise known as The Terminator and 2004’s I, Robot. This Fear Factory album has also reminded me of the song Metal Gods, from the 1980 Judas Priest album classic: British Steel. One stirring lyrical line from Metal Gods sums it up best, when delving into the sic-fi aspect of machine versus man: “From techno seeds we first planted, Evolved a mind of its own”.

NEUROSIS – Track From Forthcoming Album Streaming At NPR

With the new studio full-length from NEUROSIS set to erupt in late October, today the first track of the massive Honor Found In Decay to be made publicly available has been set loose via National Public Radio. The pyroclastic surge of “At The Well” coalesces the emotive and expansive elements of the act into a ten minute hymn, which helps reaffirm why NEUROSIS remain one of the most important heavy acts in existence.

The fifth NEUROSIS album to be handled by engineering sorcerer Steve Albini, the hour-long Honor Found In Decay is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated albums of 2012. The seven tracks harnessed within this release capture the unit’s output at its most emotional and diverse yet, forming what the band members themselves are referring to as their pinnacle studio effort. NEUROSIS recently unveiled a visual trailer for the album using imagery shot and created by their own visual artist Josh Graham, and edited together by video architect Kenneth Thomas, who directed their 2007 Given To The Rising documentary. For the first time in the band’s history, intimate details of the handcrafted cover artwork have been made publicly available, allowing the installation to be viewed in motion, not just still photographs. THE ORDER – 1986 Is An Album Bursting At The Seams With Hard Rockin’ & Heavy Metallin’ Old School Glory!

THE ORDER – Attention all fans of 80’s Hard Rock, Arena Rock, Classic Rock and early MTV era Heavy Metal: The Order have recorded an album that ushers in the loud, proud, colorful and ultra pumped-up energy that our beloved 80’s Heavy Music had to offer and it’s titled 1986. There’s no doubt in my Metal mind that 1986 was a magnificent year for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Now there’s no doubt that this 1986 album is a priority recommendation of mine and one of the very best Hard Rock meets Heavy Metal albums I’ve listened to in 2012… or in the last few years for that matter.

Everything about these 10 songs on 1986 is huge! Huge guitars, huge vocals, huge drums, huge bass. Just a rainstorm of good-times lyrics surrounded by 80’s old school Hard and Heavy Rock ‘N Roll thunder! With 1986, The Order have taken the old adage of what once was old is new again and have written it across the sky. 1986 is the fourth album from these Swiss Hard Rockers and they’ve proven their seasoned musicianship is truly something to behold.

Gianni Pontillo on vocals should make the legendary (and fellow countryman) Marc Storace (of Krokus fame) very, very, very proud. Damn proud. To say it’s a Metal treat to take in the vocals of Gianni on this album is a gross understatement. Bruno Spring dials-in on every tiny guitar nuance that is golden about that arena-era of sound, glitz and glam! The solos, leads and all-encompassing melodic blanket of sound that Bruno plays throughout 1986 is 100% contagious to my Metal lovin’ and Hard Rockin’ senses. Holy Heavy Rockin’ shit.

Take a listen, no, take several listens to the opening track The Power Of Love below! This song is only 1 of 10 that kicks supreme Heavy Rockin’ ass like there’s no tomorrow!

If you can make it through the first four songs on 1986 without getting the psyche-you-out police breaking down the front door, then you’re in for an amazing sonic experience of Hard and Heavy Rock ‘N’ Roll! Just when I thought I’ve listened to it all, this is an album that has lifted me up, spun me around and kicked me straight in the ass with an old school Timberland boot; a boot full of Hard Rockin’ shock and Heavy Metallin’ awe. Holy Heavy Rockin shit, again.

The Order even recorded a ballad that kicks mammoth Metal ass. Under The Rain is the ballad and it’s a diamond-status moment for Gianni on vocals. Now, don’t take my Metal word for it. Take my F’n Metal word for it. The Order are a band you absolutely must know about and their 1986 album is one you absolutely must own. Metal be thy name.

NIDINGR – ‘Greatest Of Deceivers’ Details Revealed; Releasing In North America On November 20th

Recent Indie Recordings signees, NIDINGR, will unleash their new full-length, Greatest Of Deceivers, in North America on November 20th. Starring present and past members of bands such as Mayhem, Gorgoroth, DHG (Dødheimsgard), 1349 and God Seed, among others, the Norwegian Black Metal magicians are known for their efficiently complex songwriting, ravagingly dissonant, yet infinitely catchy riffs and breakneck tempos. Their two previous offerings — 2005’s Sorrow Infinite And Darkness and 2010’sWolf Father — prove what this maniacal assault is capable of. 

NIDINGR recorded G.O.D. in Crystal Canyon Studios in Oslo, home to a host of prominent Norwegian acts including cult experimentalists Ulver, to accomplish a unique ‘70s, vintage style production. The sound they’ve created is a wholly organic, warm, unedited and un-triggered production that further emphasizes the great musicianship caught on tape. Greatest Of Deceivers was produced by guitarist Teloch, mixed by Anders Møller (Kitchie Kitchie Ki Me O, Euroboys, 120 Days, Turbonegro, etc.) and  mastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. The cover was crafted by the renowned Metastazis (Morbid Angel, Nachtmystium, Paradise Lost, Watain, Blut Aus Nord, etc.).

Greatest Of Deceivers continues the theme from Sorrow Infinite And Darkness, based on Enochian texts. As on the previous album, ten Enochian Æthyrs are evoked through the course of the album.
