Dark Melodic Metallers DEATHWHITE have announced the upcoming release of the Ethereal EP on July 1. Ethereal is the band’s first full sonic representation, recorded in the spring of 2014 with producer/engineer Matt Very at Very Tight Studios. An additional song, A Burden to Carry is also included, having been recorded in the fall of 2013 during a separate studio session.
Formed in 2012 from several holdovers of well-established extreme metal bands, DEATHWHITE was created as means to explore new avenues for its members. In turn, the band’s sound is heavily influenced by KATATONIA, mid-90’s PARADISE LOST, ALCEST, and early ANATHEMA, creating a dark, melodic metal landscape without boundaries. The thread of melody, darkness, and memorable songwriting is the primary aim of DEATHWHITE, with lyrics exploring the pitfalls of existence, and organized religion.

The long-awaited eighth studio release from Mike Campese is finally here!
Mike Campese is back with a new solo release, titled Chameleon. This is Mike’s 8th solo Cd, it contains 12 new tracks and it is a little over 60 minutes. This Cd really packs a punch! If you heard Mike’s previous Cd’s you will realize that he has really honed his writing and musicianship. The first track “To the 9’s” is slamming, it’s a blistering tune with incredible melody and alone it is worth the price of the Cd. Not only is Mike a guitar virtuoso, but he does sing on a few tracks on this disc as well.
The title track “Chameleon” has some real nice haunting melodies and some nice lush vocal harmonies. There is some serious shredding on this Cd and plenty of melody as well. With the blistering guitar and the Paganini inspired section in the tune “Raise the Bow” and the multiple meter changes in the song “Pasta and Bananas” that progressive rock fans will love. Mike returns with his blues roots on the tune “She Burnt the House Down”, which has some incredible soaring leads that are in your face and some real nice vocal melodies.
Campese gets funky on this Cd as well, the tunes “Funky Monkey Man” and “Firefly in a Bottle”, feature some pretty awesome funk grooves and some nice vocal lines. If you have been following Mike’s music and career, you will know that Mike is known for his great sense of melody and melodic shredding on the guitar. A perfect example of this is the tune “Flashback”, this beautiful ballad was inspired when Mike was living in Hollywood and attending Mi. “Vegas”(playing the slots) is probably one of the most unique tunes on the Cd. When you are listening to this song, you will think you are in Vegas playing a slot machine. Now lets cross the Pacific Ocean, the Hawaiian volcano inspired tune “Kilauea” erupts with some incredible guitar lines with some in your face guitars.
For the first time on any Mike Campese Cd, Mike has a very special guest, his friend and guitar legend, Vernon Reid of Living Colour. Mike and Vernon are trading off with some crazy solos at the end of the jazzy tune “Do it for the Cats” Mike is a very versatile guitarist and on each Cd he incorporates a little jazz and other styles in his music, which makes him known as a musical Chameleon. The last tune “Meant to Be” is another jazzy tune with a great groove and some very catchy melodies. Mike Campese fans are going to love this Cd and it is the one they have been waiting for.

Marco Mendoza, a founding member of BLACK STAR RIDERS, has decided to pursue other projects after potential conflicts in schedules.
His replacement will be Robbie Crane (formerly of RATT, VICNE NEIL and LYNCH MOB).
Scott Gorham: “I am very sad to see Marco go. We have been together in a band now for almost 20 years and Marco is my brother and we wish him well for the future. It’s an amicable parting of ways and we all respect that Marco wants to do other projects outside of BLACK STAR RIDERS and there just isn’t time to do both.”
Ricky Warwick: “Marco will always be part of the BSR family and a true friend of ours. We are very happy to introduce Robbie Crane to everyone as the new BSR bass player. The guy killed the audition and we can’t wait to get on stage with him on our Euro run starting mid July and then of course, in the studio in the autumn for the recording of the second BLACK STAR RIDERS record.”
Marco Mendoza: “I loved my time in Black Star Riders and want to thank all the fans for making the last year on road so successful. I am sorry to be leaving the band but I feel it’s time for me to pursue other avenues, some of which I have already been working with, all of which I am very excited about. The Band then head into the studio to record the follow-up to the 2013 release All Hell Breaks Loose for Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
The album, as yet untitled, will be scheduled for release in February 2015, with European and US tours to follow with other territories the band has not played as yet the first time around.

DRUNK DAD Ripper Killer – releases July 1st, 2014, via Eolian Empire.
DRUNK DAD – When I first heard Drunk Dad’s Morbid Reality EP, I was very happy. Why you query? Answer: Drunk Dad plays Noise Rock and experiments with their sound like it’s the night before doomsday, while giving little or no regard about what others will say about the end result. Drunk Dad has their own terminology for their sound and they call it: Fuck You All Wave.
Make no mistake, Drunk Dad can and will shock you into embracing their music. Maybe. It’s weird how it happened to me. The mixture of several genres of non-mainstream, apocalyptic underground goodness is what Drunk Dad creates and they do it superbly, in my Metal opinion. I sometimes wonder to myself, would Noise be the genre that I would pursue If I wanted to start a band? Just listening to Drunk Dad seems to calm my nerves. After listening to Ripper Killer, I feel as though I took a hammer to an aluminum garbage can and now everything is cool.
Ripper Killer is Drunk Dad’s first long play and I see it being the launching pad of this Portland, Oregon ensemble. Drunk Dad needs to play Ripper Killer in its entirety at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, just to shut the mouths of and piss off all those plastic millionaire/billionaire dorks that get all the free corporate seats. I’m serious. The overall sound that is Ripper Killer just has to appeal to a cross-section of Punk, Sludge, Hardcore and Experimental fans. If you dig Mr. Bungle and/or the Melvins, you are in for a sonic treat with Drunk Dad. Yup.
As a past student of Art History, I’ve been trained to look beyond the first impression and explore the many inner cavities of the visual creation. With that said, the cover art (or photo if you will) of Drunk Dad’s Ripper Killer, (see atop post), exposes light years of relevance to what is happening in our world today. Albeit shocking to look at, the cover art does symbolize the death that is in our hourly news; whether it’s carnage from a madman firing off a gun in public, wars, cruelty to any life form or even an oil spill from an ocean tanker.
Relating the cover art of Ripper Killer to Drunk Dad’s music just seems to fit; for if the photo turns off the fancy and out-of-touch mainstream, then surely the music heard within will too. It’s been Four long years since Central California’s Etched In Stone unleashed their crushing debut full length, Emulate The Defiler, and immediately followed that up with an unanticipated lengthy hiatus. However, the last year has seen the band pushing to get things back in order, and they are finally ready to make their return with a brand new full length album entitled The Failure of Modern Man.
Despite the many setbacks the band has had from dealing with multiple line up shifts to only releasing the single “At the Altar of Lethe” via Nefarious Realm in April 2013, Etched In Stone have pushed on, refining their sound and recording the remaining tracks for their follow-up as time and finances allowed. The recording process was finally finished up in Spring 2014, with Jesse “Fioren” Quintero handling final mixing and mastering at The Ice Chamber Studios in Modesto, CA, and Etched in Stone are now set to release their sophomore album, The Failure of Modern Man, this June.
To give fans an idea of what they can expect from the new album, the band has partnered up with Ghost Cult Mag and are proud to premiere a track from The Failure of Modern Man entitled, “Only Silent, Still.”
Etched In Stone vocalist/producer Brian Lewis, had the following to say about the track and the new album: “When Jesse sent our final mixes back to us, it was completely surreal. “Only Silent, Still” is a great example of the overall sound of this record and representation of the evolution of our sound. MAMMOTH GRINDER – Back on July 23rd, 2013, Mammoth Grinder saw their third studio album, Underworlds, released via 20 Buck Spin. From Austin, Texas, Mammoth Grinder fuses Metal (From Death to Thrash), Grind and Punk into a steamroller of Earth crunching sound. Regardless of sub-genres, the all-encompassing sound from Mammoth Grinder, that floods my brain is Metal. For me, Underworlds is one of the best Metal albums to revisit from 2013. Underworlds has that staying power for me to talk about for a very, very long time. Whoa.
If I had to sum up Mammoth Grinder with only one phrase, I believe it would go like this: Mammoth Grinder are Motörhead, Corrosion Of Conformity and Down on potent steroids. I actually just chuckled out loud as I wrote that phrase. Aw hell, it’s true, to my spent and quasi-aging ears anyways. In other news, Over the last four decades, drummer Terry Bozzio has built an extraordinary legacy based on his unique approach to rhythm and the diverse and acclaimed recordings to which he’s contributed. On April 18, 2014 he’ll go beyond genres into new mediums with the release of an art collection titled [RHYTHM] + [SKETCH]. Available exclusive at www.terrybozzioart.com, the collection is a fusion of artwork crafted over the last three decades mixed with new abstract visuals made from capturing rhythm.
A project that began a year ago, [RHYTHM] + [SKETCH] is a highly limited release of artwork on canvas. The collection’s visuals are a unique fusion of ink sketches Bozzio has made throughout his career, as well as his take on the new medium of rhythm-on-canvas, a process of creating abstract artwork through the documentation of rhythmic performance and light movement. To build the collection, Bozzio joined Los Angeles art team SceneFour in the creation process. SceneFour is the team responsible for the rhythm-on-canvas movement, working exclusively with the world’s finest drummers to craft abstract artwork from performance. “Terry’s collection is a remarkable step forward. His style is so unique that once captured the arcs and techniques he’s mastered become crystal clear to a discerning viewer,” SceneFour’s Co-Founder Cory Danziger states. “The fusion of Terry’s sketches into the rhythmic creations is a natural. His work behind the kit has similarities to the artwork done by hand. It’s very telling of how his creativity is consistent even as it crosses platforms.” In total, twelve different works are featured in Bozzio’s collection, with a limited number of each piece available to the public on April 18, 2014. New York City Stoner Doom trio, BLACKOUT, will bring their quaking riff rituals to Canada later this month on a four-date mini tour through Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. This will mark the band’s first time ever on Canadian soil.

With food, beer and America at the forefront, it only makes sense guitar player/vocalist Christian Gordy and drummer Taryn Waldman would meet at Gordy’s 2011 July 4th cookout in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Waldman, a former Hooter’s waitress turned big time commercial film editor, and Gordy, a one-legged bartender/artist/BBQ enthusiast were an oddball couple for NY’s heavily-styled metal scene. The duo began rapidly banging out monolithic snail-paced riffs that could party as much as they could crush.
BLACKOUT – referring to blackout drunk, the absence of light, or a mobster hit on an entire family – was the only appropriate title for the band. With a three-song demo recorded at the now defunct Headgear Studios in the bag, Waldman set out on the task of stalking and acquiring drum wizard Justin Sherrel for the bass position. The sound filled out and quickly grew like Chuck Berry’s mustache. Now with Sherrel’s nitty-gritty, rhythm-heavy mud beneath an electrical tide of riffs and explosions, the mighty river of sludge was primed to lurch forward.

My first time performing at WOM was when HELSTAR headlined the fest in 2012 along with MANILLA ROAD at its former grounds in Pataskala, Ohio. The band and I had an awesome experience our first time around, we were treated very well by the organizers Datis & Lea Alaee and their organization and given a warm welcome by the fans. Due to overwhelming popularity in the Midwest U.S. region and with veteran WOM festival goers, I was invited back as the headliner in 2013 to premiere my solo project, JAMES RIVERA. Once again, I received unbelievable treatment and to say the least, I’m always overly flattered by the kindness of everybody involved in WOM. Now I’ll be returning for the seventh edition of WOM Fest with HELSTAR headlining on Saturday, June 28th, and there’s no better time to have us back. We have a new album coming out on April 29th entitled “This Wicked Nest”, which will be on the streets for two months by the time we hit the stage at WOM. I feel it’s the strongest HELSTAR record to date and will embrace all HELSTAR fans, old and new, throughout the decades. We even went as far as writing an instrumental to please the neoclassical metal admirers, which features guitarist extraordinaire Jeff Loomis (NEVERMORE, SANCTUARY, CONQUERING DYSTOPIA). The most exciting part about the HELSTAR shows in 2014, is not only are we going out in support of our new album and playing many great songs from previous albums, but it also happens to be the 30-Year Anniversary of the release of “Burning Star”, our debut album that put the band on the metal map of the world in 1984. So what we will be doing for all of our shows in 2014 (beginning with our European tour) is supporting “This Wicked Nest” and including a special 30 year salute to the “Burning Star” album. This means we will be playing an extended set with Burning Star songs as our encore. So for the old school HELSTAR fans, this is a show you will not want to miss! WOM is the first and only confirmed Midwest appearance for HELSTAR so far this year. Hope to see you all there!”

ILLDISPOSED have finished the recordings of their upcoming album at Denmark’s Antfarm Studio! Tue Madsen is soon going to take care of the mix as well as the mastering.
ILLDISPOSED’s new album will be entitled “With The Lost Souls On Our Side”! It will be the first album with new drummer Kim Langkjær Jensen, who permanently joined the band in autumn 2013.
Lasse Hoile once again created the beautiful cover artwork. He is also responsible for the artwork of the band’s previous records “1-800 Vindication”, “Burn Me Wicked” and “There Is Light… But It’s Not For Me”.
The band also posted the following statement on their facebook page a while ago: “Since we haven’t been able to reach an agreement on a cover song to record, we’ve decided to record a new version of one of our own oldies instead!”

The album will include at least nine brand new original songs as well as a cover of Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker.”

2014 has seen UK Death/Thrash outfit Flayed Disciple back in the studio recording a new EP and follow-up to the 2012 debut album ‘Death Hammer’. Chuck Creese, who produced the ‘Ejaculate While Killing’ EP in 2010, was back at the helm recording the new record.
Guitarist Jon Whitfield comments: “The new EP will remain untitled and released on a stunning 12″ vinyl as well as digitally. This release is to showcase the bands new sound and energy, and our new drummer Rich Lewis who joined us in 2013.”
‘Flayed Disciple’ EP will be released May 24th via Bethlam Records.
The EP contains three new tracks; ‘Sick Abomination’, ‘The Gates Of Bedlam’ and ‘The Maniac’ and with over 20 minutes of music, Flayed Disciple are set to deliver more of the epic thrash style that they began to carve for themselves on ‘Death Hammer’. A music video for ‘The Gates of Bedlam’ will also be released coinciding with the vinyl release.
Since the release of Flayed Disciple’s 2012 debut album ‘Death Hammer’, things have moved forward greatly and at great speed. With massive acclaim from the Metal media, Flayed Disciple gained coverage in mainstream magazines such as Metal Hammer & Terrorizer. The band released two music videos, ‘The Shrine Of Dahmer’ and ‘The Westboro Massacre’; the latter, which went on to reach over 90,000 views on YouTube.

The band have toured up and down their native UK as well as Europe and beyond with heavyweights such as Vader, Aborted, Blood Red Throne, etc. The band have played numerous festivals including the UK’s Bloodstock Festival, Hammerfest and they made an appearance at the Indian Metal Fest in Bangalore alongside Gojira.
Flayed Disciple are now seasoned live players, and have a UK tour from May 18th to 24th as main support to Earache Records’ Thrash maniacs Bonded By Blood. The band also has a 13-day European tour from October 6th to 18th in support of another Earache Records’ band Cerebral Bore.
Massachusetts hellions, GOZU, will take their riffs overseas next week for their first-ever European takeover! Set to begin at the legendary Roadburn Festival, the band will wage a full-on volume ambush through ten select locales in the Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia and Italy, concluding with a performance at Desertfest in Berlin.
GOZU will be touting the fruit of their The Fury Of A Patient Man full-length released last Spring via Small Stone. The self-produced ten track monster earned widespread praise for its Chris Cornellian vocal swells and robust, heavy rock swagger. Describes The Big Takeover of the release, “Besides wielding bruising riffs like katanas, the Cambridge, Massachusetts quartet shows an impish sense of pop culture humor with titles like ‘Charles Bronson Pinchot,’ ‘Disco Related Injury’ and the Welcome Back, Kotter referencing ‘Signed, Epstein’s Mom.’ But the primary reasons GOZU stomps most pot smoking riffmeisters into the ground are their two frontdudes. Limited to 500 copies, the 2XLP set comes on 180-gram wax with a wide spine jacket, poly-lined sleeve, and two colors – LP one is “clear green” while LP two is “solid purple.” Sides one, two and three feature tracks from the original album, while side four offers up exclusive vinyl-only numbers with one original tune (“Break You”) and GOZUed renditions of Simply Red’s “Holding Back The Years” and D’Angelo’s “Shit, Damn, Motherfucker.”

German Thrash Metal heroes TANKARD just revealed the album cover for their upcoming new album R.I.B.. The artwork was brought to life by Patrick Strogulski, who is a student of Sebastian Krüger, the former TANKARD cover artist.
Mastermind Gerre states:
“R.I.B. continues the story of Chemical Invasion. The crazy professor is back is takes revenge on mankind, because he failed in 1987! The cover is done again by Patrick Strogulski, an apprentice of Sebastian Krüger and really hits the spot! As always with Tankard, things shouldn’t be taken too seriously!”
