RWAKE released their long-awaited new full-length, The Return Of Magik, last month on Relapse Records.

Years have now fed into an album that reaches into a swirling, cosmic unknown –RWAKE has grown, and the perspective of the material has shifted accordingly. Overwhelming at its peak and haunting during moments of respite, The Return Of Magik is undeniably RWAKE.

Every movement feels like an emotionally engrossing journey. Arrangements carefully and thoughtfully built in layers over a period of years lend mystique and a feeling of building toward a cathartic release. There is no box into which the material might fit other than one with the band’s name on it.

The Return Of Magik is available on CD, LP, and digital formats. Find ordering options at Relapse.com HERE.

Recorded in early 2024 at East End Sounds in Hensley, Arkansas, The Return Of Magik introduces RWAKE’s guitarists John Judkins and Austin Sublett with a barrage of shredded solos suited to the angular, progressive metal riffing of the album’s most jaw-clenching moments, while presenting a through-line of molten, immersive ambience.

The opener “You Swore We’d Always Be Together,” already a fixture of live sets and the expansive sprawl of “Distant Constellations And The Psychedelic Incarceration” move with cruelty and grace alike. Foreboding, syncopated riffs sway against Moog-driven space and guttural bellows. The Return Of Magik’s songs stand alone as individualized post-metallic blends of genres.

RWAKE remains dually fronted: Chris Terry’s powerful vocals lay against Brittany Fugate’s visceral screams. Jeff Morgan returns to the drum kit, in addition to acoustic guitar and 12-string bass. Bassist/noisemaker Reid Raley, Sublett, and Judkins set an instrumental backdrop that is vast and engrossing in itself; quiet, contemplative passages often explode into gut-wrenching, doomed out distortions. The Return Of Magik, which features artwork by Loni Gillum of Minerva’s Menagerie and RWAKE, burns brighter and beyond the ferocity of the band’s already storied catalog.

Although the Magik may be bleak, the manner in which RWAKE revels in it can only be called a celebration.

Time To Kill Records is proud to announce the signing of Michigan based death metal force RECORRUPTOR for the release of their upcoming third album, Sorrow Will Drown Us All.

The band has poured relentless dedication into crafting this new chapter; a true masterclass in modern, riff-driven death metal. Balancing sharp technical precision with raw, unyielding power, the record delivers songs that are both intricately structured and fiercely direct, avoiding excess in favor of impact.

With Sorrow Will Drown Us All, RECORRUPTOR prove once again that their vision of extreme music is as focused as it is ferocious. More details on the album will be revealed soon. Stay tuned.

Biography:

Born from a relentless need for speed and a commitment to preserving pure, unfiltered riff-driven death metal, RECORRUPTOR has carved out a name for themselves through explosive live performances and unflinching intensity. Since their formation in 2016, the Michigan based band has released two full-length albums, Bloodmoon (2017) and The Funeral Corridor (2020), both of which paved the way for extensive regional touring and support slots alongside genre titans such as: Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, and Cattle Decapitation.

Refining their sound with each release, RECORRUPTOR entered the studio in 2023 to record what stands as their most focused and ferocious effort to date: Sorrow Will Drown Us All. A culmination of years spent sharpening their craft, the new album captures the band at their most precise, punishing, and unapologetically extreme.

Out Now! Eclectic Doom Band AITTALA’s New Album: Machines

Posted in Heavy Metal, Metal, metal bands, metal music, Music, music news, news with tags , , , , , on April 20, 2025 by Metal Odyssey

Now available as of April 17th, 2025, from Exitus Strategem Records, eclectic doom metal powerhouse AITTALA is unleashing their new album Machines.

The songs on Machines were originally written and demoed between 1990 and 1997 on an analog 4-track cassette recorder. Now, Aittala has revived these tracks, preserving their raw essence while enhancing them with modern production techniques.

The album offers a nostalgic yet powerful experience, blending early progressive metal influences with storytelling-driven lyrics. While showcasing a distinct style from their recent works, Machines stays true to Aittala’s signature heavy, immersive sound.

Formed in 1991 in Holland, Aittala quickly gained recognition in the Dutch metal scene, opening for bands like THE GATHERING and SADIST. After a hiatus, frontman Eric Aittala resurrected the band in 2008, leading to six full-length albums: Bed of Thorns (2009), Haunt Your Flesh (2011), Effigy (2014), American Nightmare (2016), False Pretenses (2019), and Live to Regret (2022).

Now, with Machines, AITTALA boldly steps into the past, bringing long-lost tracks to life with a modern, crushing edge.

This dynamic duo of Eric Aittala (Guitars/Vocals) and Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (Drums) (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) continues to write, record, and tour, bringing their distinct brand of heavy, immersive metal to fans worldwide.

From the Greek black metal bastion of Athens emerges ELEVENTH RAY, with lamentations that have lain in wait for the best part of a decade. The occult offerings within the unhallowed sleeve of Reviving Tehom invoke the spirit of Celtic Frost, Sodom, the ‘90s exploits of the great Magus Wampyr Daoloth (Necromantia, Rotting Christ, Thou Art Lord), and of course, Therion’s 1993 Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas album.

ELEVENTH RAY and Dark Descent Records have launched a stream for the album’s opening track, “Nightside of DamascusListen now at youtu.be/t7Mzlc-7mtk?si=d0DJxCis5bm-cVub

The seeds for ELEVENTH RAY were sown by materials once artificed for the black metal force of Serpent Noir, whose changing tonality saw guitarist Y.K. bury said materials for a later purpose. A decision that first bore rotten fruit via a devastating rehearsal demo in 2022, which piqued the interest of Dark Descent Records.

ELEVENTH RAY is a totally new autonomous entity for which we plan to work with full force and NOT a one-off project of Serpent Noir leftovers,” exclaims Y.K. “As it happens with all my projects, ELEVENTH RAY is deeply rooted in Dark Magic and the Typhonian Alchemy.”

The practices of Magic and Alchemy are of critical importance to Y.K., and these elements at even keel with the music itself.

“Writing music for the sake of music is not enough. It is the expression of what lies hidden beyond the frames of what we call reality. The great Unknown emanated from the foremost symbol of power, the Red Dragon,” explains Y.K.

“What we were aiming to achieve was the creation of a purely black Magical death/thrash/black metal album without the lyrical satanic naivety of the past. Listening carefully to the album, you will realise that into this blend there is a striking ritualistic element with an ominous vibe and a heavy occult twist. Basically, Reviving Tehom is an album I would personally love to listen to, but I could not find anywhere.”

The common thread extends to the stunning artwork by L.G.N Nekropropaganda, depicting the aforesaid Great Red Dragon “as the orgasm of existence, the utmost symbol of hidden wisdom and forbidden knowledge which is also a tangible form of ecstatic energy. Lyrics deal with personal experiences related to the awakening/channelling of this tremendous force.”

ELEVENTH RAY:
D. Gharrassielh: Rhythm and lead guitars, chants
D. AanoNin: Vocals, chants
Peyote: Bass, additional lead guitars
Nuctemeron: Drums, percussion

Recorded by Haris V. at the Eleventh Tower Studio, a familiar collaborator of Y.K., the production perfectly complements this first wave hell-noise with a crushing old school sound. With full force!

BEAR MACE Unleashes Bone-Chilling New Single “The Iceman Cometh”

Watch “The Iceman Cometh” Here: https://youtu.be/rSIiyIwYx5s

Chicago’s death metal juggernaut BEAR MACE has released their latest single, “The Iceman Cometh,” along with an intense new official music video, taken from their crushing new album Slaves of the Wolf. The track and video dive headfirst into the cold-blooded legacy of infamous contract killer Richard Kuklinski, also known as “The Iceman.”

“This one is about Richard Kuklinski, the infamous ‘Iceman’ who was purported to have killed over 200 people,” says vocalist Chris Scearce. “Every method of killing described in the lyrics are ways that he actually disposed of his victims.”

Visually dark and visceral, the video amplifies the song’s chilling subject matter with disturbing imagery and a relentless performance from BEAR MACE.

A lot of SLAYER influence here, especially the guitar solo tradeoff,” adds guitarist MARK SUGAR. “The secret ingredient in writing ‘old school death metal’ is listening to the bands that inspired death metal originally.”

With unrelenting riffs, guttural ferocity, and a raw narrative edge, “The Iceman Cometh” is a standout track and the video captures the band’s signature blend of historical horror and musical extremity in full force.

This release is a formidable precursor to Slaves Of The Wolf, scheduled for full release on June 6, 2025, and available for pre-order HERE.

Slaves Of The Wolf  – Track-list:

  1. “Slaves of the Wolf” – 4:21
  2. “Worthless Lives” – 4:06
  3. “Drown Them In Their Blood” – 4:31

  5. “Captured And Consumed” – 4:36
  6. “Heretics Burn” – 4:45

Stream Murderous Revelationson Spotify and Apple Music.

Savage riffing and blasting drums with gargantuan vocals drop us into the fiery abysses of the album without warning. DIABOLIZER does not intend to ease you in, preferring to throw everything they have at you, which is a forceful and crushing maelstrom of true Death Metal magnificence.

Contorting riffs and malignant rhythmic battery ensue with a vengeful blend of ideas conveyed superbly by a titanic production, ensuring every element of brutality can be felt through the entire body. From the frantic aggression of the instruments to the savagery displayed in the vocals, everything about DIABOLIZER feels like a strong continuation from their supreme debut album in 2021, which already saw them establish a loyal following.

DIABOLIZER:
Malik – Bass
Aberrant – Drums
Mustafa – Guitars
Abomination – Vocals
Can – Guitars

The demonic atmosphere of the record is impressive enough, but there is just the right amount of technicality to show how skilled these musicians are without straying far from pulverizing us with utter malice. The solos, for example, are played gloriously while remaining short in most cases so as not to interrupt the grave-splitting onslaught of pure old school morbidity.

Enormous variety in the riffing, drums and vocals alike ensures all forty minutes of this record are impactful, intense and insanely well executed. The return of DIABOLIZER is an essential moment in 2025’s Death Metal calendar, do not miss it!

The band states, “Ego Dissolution deals with the loss of oneself from positive and negative experiences. Our hope is to spread awareness of the connectivity between one another, embracing your individuality, and to let others know they aren’t alone.”

Ego Dissolution will arrive on LP, CD, and digital services this Friday, April 18th. Preorders for all formats and merch are live through Profound Lore HERE.

Following their release show for Ego Dissolution supporting Vastum and Goetia, ANCIENT DEATH is booking additional live dates in support of the album, including a mid-Summer tour and more to be announced shortly.

From GRUESOME bandsintown:

SILENT ECHOES – Out June 6, 2025 on LP/CD/CS/Digital
https://www.relapse.com/pages/gruesome-silent-echoes

Celebrating over a decade as the finest purveyors of old-school Death Metal inspired by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner and the many iterations of Death, the new album sees GRUESOME transition away from the no-frills riff-fests heard on their Savage Land and Twisted Prayers LPs, and shift towards a more musically advanced, nuanced form of extremity.

Silent Echoes is the quartet’s true “put up or shut-up” moment for one simple reason: It was written and recorded in the spirit of DEATH’s 1991 progressive death metal masterpiece, Human.

Dedicated to the memory of Sean Reinert and Chuck Schuldiner

BYZANTINE – Long Running Metal Outfit To Release Harbingers Full-Length June 13th On Metal Blade Records | New Video/Single Now Playing + Preorders Available

Charleston, West Virginia metal veterans BYZANTINE will release their long-awaited new full-length, Harbingers, on June 13th via Metal Blade Records.

Produced by Peter Wichers (Soilwork, All That Remains, Nevermore), Harbingers offers nine tracks totaling forty-five minutes of deep lyrical wisdom alongside equally hefty riffs delivered seamlessly by one of the most commanding and unsung lineups to emerge from the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal movement of the early 2000s.

Now a five-piece for the first time ever, featuring founding frontman Chris “OJ” Ojeda, alongside former guitarist Tony Rohrbough, bassist Ryan Postlethwait, along with veteran guitarist Brian Henderson, and drummer Matt Bowles, with HarbingersBYZANTINE is a crown jewel in their impressive seven-album discography. Notes Ojeda, “After twenty-five years of riding the struggle bus, we’re ready to show the rock and metal world what we’re truly about.”

The album cover, designed by mixed-media artist Ashley Hoey, beautifully depicts Irene of Athens – the mother of Emperor Constantine and the first female empress of the Byzantine Empire. This focus on a maternal ruler eloquently ties into the album’s title, Harbingers, which means “ones who usher in great change.” The record’s first single, “Floating Chrysanthema,” envisions a bleak dystopian future where artificial intelligence becomes sentient and overpowers mankind, essentially enslaving us all. “Our bassist Ryan brought this song to the band,” says Ojeda, “and we thought it hit like a sledgehammer making it the perfect introduction to our new music. Peter Wichers had a big hand in helping craft this song into its final iteration.”

Watch BYZANTINE’s video for “Floating Chrysanthema” HERE

Harbingers will be released on CD and digital formats. Find preorders at: metalblade.com/byzantine.

Harbingers – Track Listing:

  1. Consequentia
  2. A Place We Cannot Go
  3. Floating Chrysanthema
  4. The Clockmaker’s Intention
  5. Riddance
  6. Harbinger
  7. The Unobtainable Sleep
  8. Kobayashi Maru
  9. Irene

In 2017, BYZANTINE made their Metal Blade debut with The Cicada Tree, faultlessly merging multiple genres into their progressive groove sound, a signature blend now synonymous with the band.

With Harbingers raising the stakes and a revitalized lineup in place, Ojeda confidently states, “If you’ve slept on BYZANTINE for the past twenty-five years, Harbingers will awaken you.”

From the deepness of the eternal night, Spiritwood rises with the new album The Apparition of Horns, an aural ritual of isolation and decay. The Finnish band expands its cult of atmospheric and occult Black Metal, intertwining the coldness of nature with echoes of suffocating anguish. A deep plunge into the experimental and avant-garde abyss, where every note is a lament and every silence, an omen.

The album is set for release on May 1st this year, available in both digital and physical formats via Loudriver Records.

  2. The Apparition of Horns (07:48)
